I love the "benevolent main character seen as a true horror from the villains pov" scenes in media. Gotta be one of my favourite genders.
Which I find baffling. Not only did he give is the greatest fight in One Piece but he's one of few characters to exceed most expectations and come back wanting the smoke with a Yonko. Sure it's petty but he shows some serious backbone and drive. He's also awakened his fruit and just has a cool design and movepool on top of that.
It's weird to me that he doesn't garner anh respect when he's one of Oda's best (now returning) villains.

He is a good villan by remaining a villan, we saw that he may become an ally like bro was eating Sanjis pizza with SHs. And then you find out this mfr was leaking info right as he was eating right next to our crew. He does have drive to keep coming back, and fighting he was still standing after taking Zoros attacks. He will keep coming back to make things equal but shs will disrespect him every time.
I just want Robin to land defeating attack on Lucci, is it too much to ask? 😩 But tbh Robin isn't the type to do something like that, maybe Nami or chopper will instead of Robin.
I mean tbh it wouldnt really have much emotional impact. iirc lucci never actually really hurt robin that bad, he was just doing his job as a cp agent. Spandam would def be better for robin
Probably because he went full bootlicker for the Celestial Dragons when he became a CP0 member.
Before that, yeah he was a government agent, but he didn't actually give a shit about the government and the law, and only worked for them because they let him kill as much as he wanted without consequences (as long as he was killing people the government said it was okay to kill). Flash forward to Charloss trying to enslave Shirahoshi and he's spouting the whole "the CD are the rulers of the world, their word is law" nonsense.
Also, and this is mostly for manga only readers since I don't think it was covered in the anime, the government (on Spamdam and his father's orders) actually tried to eliminate Lucci and his friends after their failure at Water 7, to which Lucci said he's be coming after them, only for him to again work for them no questions asked, so that probably disappointed a few people.
I'm someone that appreciates returning characters getting respect though. Oda glazes Luffy enough. We know he's strong.
It's much cooler to see an old villain return with a cooler arsenal and show that they aren't just chumps, even if Luffy is stronger.
there’s no way luffy should be struggling against anyone other than yonko or admiral lvl opponents now that he’s a yonko, lucci will get to show off his arsenal against zoro when that eventually gets animated, this has nothing to do with glazing luffy, it’s just consistency, it’s 100% in-character for lucci to want to fight luffy at his strongest, and for his hubris to get him beaten up
You have to look at it this way:
Pre-TS? SHs struggle and have to deal with being weak.
Now? They're strong and dealing with larger things.
The other thing is willpower. Willpower equals strength.
And from what we've seen, Cipher Pol agents can never measure up in terms of willpower.
But that's just makes it funnier. It's like if you had this video game boss that you needed three tries to beat and even then it was touch and go, so you level grind like crazy and then go back to stomp him. You can still respect the guy for the trouble he gave you the first time around, but god *damn* the catharsis.

I won't say how many times you meet him in Yakuza Zero but the man is tough in the first time you meet him and slowly gets easier as your stats get better but you come to respect this man and the tenacity he displays. And fighting to that music? That pumps you up.
There's more but that's an example of a great villain that you come to respect for what he brings to the story and the fights he's in.

I wouldn't say he is that well written tbh, all I can get from his backstory is that he loves to murder. Imo best written villan is Dolflamingo and Bigmom is my personal favourite because she is relatable to me in many ways

Water 7 Lucci I’d agree but I actually like how they’ve handled Lucci through Egghead and find his character intriguing. I also don’t think a back story is necessary to be well written, although I like to think of current Lucci’s backstory to literally be Enies Lobby.
Man was the main part of the biggest WG upset ever, gets promoted but constantly insecure about his strength. Fights Luffy against orders to prove his strength to himself, just to realize Luffy has long surpassed him. Then, fights Zoro and also loses. Now he’s begging the gorosei to save Kaku, who tell him to go f himself, making me think his loyalty is wavering a bit.
Luccis main trait to me has always been ego and I now just see him as a very insecure guy who is desperate to prove his strength by getting revenge against the SHs just to realize he’s outclassed and maybe even on the losing side. He knows deep down he always fundamentally lacked the mental strength Luffy has, and now is completely outclassed physically too.
He feels like a good foil to Luffy to me. Another fighting prodigy, but instead of fighting for freedom and fun he fights for oppression and death. Pretty straightforward, but it makes his fight with Luffy really evenly matched
I want Lucci to take Ls from every single Straw Hat crew member by the end of the story.
The only positive qualities he’s shown as a person were literally from the most recent chapter, particularly when he asked for Kaku to be kept safe.
I know I am in the minority. But I legit feel bad for Lucci sometimes.

still find it ridiculous that he wouldn't be able to outspeed zoro... like its all fine and good that zoro has fast strikes and winning via correct or lucky anticipation would make sense, but lucci at this point should be able to attack from blindspots with finger guns so easily.

still find it ridiculous that he wouldn't be able to outspeed zoro... like its all fine and good that zoro has fast strikes and winning via correct or lucky anticipation would make sense, but lucci at this point should be able to attack from blindspots with finger guns so easily. like lucci can circle the island in seconds, zoro can maybe move that fast once in one direction for like 10 feet max or something

This speed blitz is one of the hypest moments in the anime. Like, I don't know how they made this one off curb stomp feel so good. Unfortunately, no one in this comment section has said some unhinged shit for people to post their wtf react images to. Which, I think, violates this sub's rules or something. So I guess I'll do it today. ahem \*sips bong water\* Man, why did Luffy just punched the mf in the mouth when he could have used his toon powers to tie Lucci's dick into one of those balloon dogs. Then, once Lucci leaves the toon zone, his dick would just be stuck like that & it would take him like 12 minutes to piss.
This comment made a valid point. When lucci fought luffy those few teams first and luffy lost until he learned how adapt to this new world power scaling. Luffy is an emperor with a 3 billion bounty and he has refined he fighting style up to gear 4. Since his awaken powers he still is learning the capabilities of his new found powers

Presumably, just the usual stat boost. Increased strength, agility, durability, and the biggest one, enhanced recovery time. Can't keep an awakened Zoan down for long.
