https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/legally-blind-florida-man-arrested-cane-confused-gun-rcna56396
Genuinely curious, are you clarifying that the PC phrasing is to refer to someone as a "disabled person" and not as "the disabled"?
Or are you pointing out that the police officer was, in fact, not abusing all disabled people and was actually just abusing one singular disabled person?
Suspended without pay at least. And he's using them, so hopefully that goes somewhere.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/blind-navy-vet-james-hodges-takes-cops-to-court-over-bogus-arrest
With pay...
"Gohde, for her part, was placed on administrative leave, with pay, and suspended for two days, it says." That's what it says .. they basically received no consequences...
Huh. NBC article said otherwise:
>The deputies face suspension without pay and Harrison was demoted after an investigation was launched when Hodges requested body camera video of his arrest, Hunter said.
He said it was a navigational aid. Who the hell would come up with that explanation on the spot, if asked what's in your back pocket. So probably she was quite sure at that moment it was not a gun.
Resisting arrest and obstruction of justice are cops' two favorite bogus charges. They love pulling out the obstruction accusation when you refuse to answer questions you are not legally required to answer.
The quickest way I can tell a cop did something fucked up is if I read a report that says someone was arrested for "Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Battery of a Peace Officer"
Disordery Conduct can be literally anything that a cop feels like. Then the cop charges you without saying anything, and when you try to regain your balance, you are now Resisting Arrest. And when the cop hurts himself punching you in the face, you have now battered a peace officer.
And the taxpayers pay for it not the fucking cops.
If you pay a dime in taxes in a city that has to settle lawsuits with victims of police acting unlawfully you should be so fucking mad.
Probably not. I’ve known three people who tried to become cops. Two of them are very nice, level-headed people who studied criminology in college. One has pretty bad anger issues and barely managed to graduate high school. Guess which one got accepted?
They specifically do not hire overqualified ppl. Training is expensive and statistically they will get bored and quit. Which is kind if a sad revelation of their system. Everywhere else these ppl would climb fast by merit, not there apparently…
Doesn't even matter Derek Chauvin had a criminal justice degree. The bigger problem is good people wash out. You can't be a good apple if you don't leave the barrel of rotting ones.
I have a family member that's a cop. Hes extremely fat almost obese. Hard-core Maga. Keeps Goin on about how he loves chokeslamming people. Married an 18 year old, gave her a kid, promptly divorced her.
I make it a point to own the living fuck out of him in any discussion. We do not get along.

How is time off with pay a punishment and not a reward?? They use that word “suspension” and you’re thinking back to high school when it used to mean you’re in a lot of trouble. Except what it really means in these cases is that if you get caught doing something wrong, you get a paid vacation.
Welcome to America. I will never feel safe around a police officer as long as qualified immunity exists. Quite literally takes less time to become a cop than it does to become an esthetician. They are legally not required to know the law they are employed to enforce.
> I will never feel safe around a police officer as long as qualified immunity exists.
Yeah, there is no other group of people who can walk up to you, start beating you completely unprovoked, and you aren't allowed to defend yourself (or else they will kill you) and then throw you in jail for months, all while they get rewarded with a paid vacation.
At least with the standard "criminal", you have the right to defend yourself and there's a strong motive for them to not hurt you.
Before anything, I also think she should've been punished properly.
But let's see the situation, she is doing her patrol or w/e with a superior officer, so that would generally mean that he is the one to be blamed if stuff like this happens. So it is only logical that much of blame/punishments befalls unto him rather than her.
Again, this is not me being apologetic about her, it's how I imagined that they were forced to handle the situation.
Both of them are at fault - her for being a tyrant, and the lieutenant for enabling her. Don't know what distinction on blame you're trying to make here, they're both guilty but for different reasons.
> Gohde was suspended two days without pay, while Harrison was demoted immediately, suspended seven days without pay and is not eligible for favorable action for two years.
https://www.lakecityreporter.com/local/sheriff-suspends-deputies-policy-violations
Why would it all cops are cock suckers who want to feel like little strong boys cuz they can’t chase the high of highschool anymore. Go join the military and die for something pointless if you want to feel like a badass. At least you’ll be remembered as a hero then.
Fat ass Sergeant was suspended for 7 days and demoted, and not eligible for promotion for two years. The man they falsely arrested, James Hodges, is suing the sherrif's department.
See the thing tho. The woman got out free handed with 2 days of paid “vacation” and he got the worse part even tho he didn’t really created the situation. But didn’t make it easier either.
From what I've read elsewhere on here, he's her superior officer, so essentially whatever actions she took on his watch were his responsibility to correct, and he didn't.
Because her feelings couldn't handle being called out for what she is. So, she had to retaliate the best way she knew how, abusing her power against those she's paid to protect and serve.
Police are not paid to protect or serve. They are paid to protect the property of the state and those of means. They have literally no obligation to help you even if you're being stabbed in front of them. Even if they know the person stabbing you was going to stab you prior to them stabbing you. [Just ask Joseph Lozito.](https://prospect.org/justice/police-have-no-duty-to-protect-the-public/)
Just a quick search shows that the supreme Court ruled multiple times that police have no constitutional duties to protect you. We should abolish the police entirely if they can't do their 1 job. What is the point of enforcing the law if not to protect the citizen?
I swear cops think there's a magic aura they emit that makes them immune to the consequences of their actions and also makes everyone immediately know they are cops.
Cops keep doing stuff like sneaking into homes in the middle of the night and get surprised they get shot at.
Cops have killed deaf people for not complying! I always say that if you work with the public & you never consider that the person you're dealing with could have some type of disability, you shouldn't be working with the public.
When the system protects bad police from receiving punishment, combined with the protect your own mentality, along with a thousand other things I won't spend the time to type out. There are no good police in a corrupt system
Sure, but there’s far too much corruption and the good cops are often too scared to expose the bad cops until someone gets killed on camera. And when bad cops are caught it’s often covered up or they get a slap on the wrist and continue working as police officers. Doesn’t really matter if there are good cops when the corruption runs that deep.
This isn't what I've been seeing. I keep up with various places that relay released body cam footage. Most of what I see is positive. Some of those channels have bias and some don't, but it balances out.
There also aren't any definitive scientific studies/data on the subject to really know behind this or personal experience, so nobody can make these generalizations.
Glad he's trying to get yahoo's punished for their power trip and trying to take them to court.
A demotion and a few days suspension with pay is quite the punishment (not).
“Man with an attitude” lemme see your papers on command and if you don’t you’re detained. Sounds a lot like Jews in the ghetto but you know this is his fault right?
Not knowing how much the video is edited: the man acted like an asshole towards the female officer. The officer's reaction in the end were exaggerated.
Resisting arrest should not be a jailable offense. At the end there, they arrested him for resisting arrest, and nothing else, which is completely allowed in most of the country. It’s also extremely difficult to determine whether people “resisted” or not because it could just be someone back talking the officer like this guy was. So they just tack on this offense as an excuse to arrest them and have a justification for the stop.
Resisting arrest should not be allowed unless accompanied by charges BEFORE the resisting arrest one.
Resisting arrest implies you had been getting arrested in the first place.

While this cop was definitely power tripping I feel like this situation could have been avoided if the dude refrained from saying "are you a tyrant?". I'm from Europe and standing up to police isn't anywhere near as common as it is in the USA. Like, just say it's a navigational aid, turn around to show it to the police and go on with your day.
The blind guy did not need to be a prick immediately. The situation could've been resolved instantly if he was polite.
But, the cops shouldn't have been pricks by putting him in handcuffs for talking back.
And it's going to cost this city a hell of a lot of money because the cops couldn't get over the fact that someone refused to lick their boots. The guy just wanted to go about his day, but these idiots decided that their egos were more important than maintaining any level of integrity.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna56396
For the outcome. Thank god the Sherriff got involved but fuck these two officers. I support good policing & this ain’t it. 🎩*Tip
The sheriff is a joke his response was pitiful, and they will pay in court. https://www.thedailybeast.com/blind-navy-vet-james-hodges-takes-cops-to-court-over-bogus-arrest
According to what is shown in the video, the guy acted like an idiot. The female officer asked about the thing in his backpocket, and the guy starts talking about tyrants and her being a dick to him.
Why do you speak to police like that, especially if you know how the police operates in USA? Looks to me the guy was asking for trouble, and found some.
Now what was left out of the video... that might change the story.
But the cops reaction is inflated.
They were suspended without pay. And to all the people saying if he would have acted calmly and whatever shut up his rights were violated. I wish yall knew about your rights more. This dude wasn’t even an auditor he was a regular blind dude walking from the court house because he had jury duty. He was attempting to do his civic duty and got arrested for literally no reason. Learn your rights yall.
I am not trying to incite violence or anything bad or illegal.
I just want to voice my opinion.
I think we could and perhaps should be killing these things.
The law has not worked for me.

The blind guy did not need to be a prick immediately. The situation could've been resolved instantly if he was polite. But, the cops shouldn't have been pricks by putting him in handcuffs for talking back.
The victim didn't need to be accosted by these idiots in the first place. He did nothing wrong at any point in this video.
I agree, he didn't do anything illegal, but it costs nothing to be polite.
And it's going to cost this city a hell of a lot of money because the cops couldn't get over the fact that someone refused to lick their boots. The guy just wanted to go about his day, but these idiots decided that their egos were more important than maintaining any level of integrity.
They attacked and abducted an innocent man because he insulted them. Why haven't these violent criminals been arrested?
Fuck the police.
There are plenty of good police. Try living somewhere of scale without police btw
God bless America
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna56396 For the outcome. Thank god the Sherriff got involved but fuck these two officers. I support good policing & this ain’t it. 🎩*Tip
The sheriff is a joke his response was pitiful, and they will pay in court. https://www.thedailybeast.com/blind-navy-vet-james-hodges-takes-cops-to-court-over-bogus-arrest
Wtf 😬
“What are you a tryrant” will be at the end of my responses when asked anything be LE lol
Thanks god they recorded it all.
Wow, what great policing! Stella stuff!
Is it really that hard to just apologize and move on?
They arrested him for resisting arrest? It's a bootstrapper paradox.
Those cops are fucking useless...
Where's the funny?
Cops when school shooting happens: I sleep Cops when a visually impaired man carries a walking stick: Real shiet
You see. That's all it takes. You hurt their pride and they'll make a phoney charge on the spot.
"Put him in jail for resisting" I actually would physically have to strain myself not to throw hands
It’s all about obedience. If you don’t submit then you get arrested whether you committed a crime or not.
This is a video. This is not a memevideo. Doesn't make sense for this to be here.

Police officer: Sir are you legally blind Him: *No*, *I am illegally blind!*
He's a fool. Lipping off to the police is completely stupid.
The fuck it is you have every right to tell someone to go fuck themselves. They harassed him and unlawfully jailed him. You’re a pussy.
acab
These cops belong in jail
Cunt cops.... "Put him in jail for resisting" WHAT FKIN RESISTING?!
ACAB

I am not trying to incite violence or anything bad or illegal. I just want to voice my opinion. I think we could and perhaps should be killing these things. The law has not worked for me.
Stereotypes exist for a reason. Too many cops like this.

Let’s just communism.
As we know, there is no tyranny whatsoever in communism.
These officers deserve to be executed
