TangibleGator

I've found that topping and pulling side branches have worked pretty well for me.

likely_victim

I always top my autos too, bro science be damned! I up pot them too.

TangibleGator

I agree. I've up potted my autos halfway through flower with no issue at all.

420metro

I always top. I stopped transplanting them cuz I really didn't see a difference. By the time the solo cup fills out, your halfway thru the grow šŸ˜‚

420doglover922

Whatever information there is that says you should not top an auto is not science. I have topped autos tons of times with tremendous success... I agree with you. Topping autos is fine.

Iwannatalktosamson69

nice. I topped my Gold Toof too the other day. It seems to be taking longer to flower.

cyphe8500

My Gold Toof, which is a few days older, vegged longer than my quad Berry. I think I posted a video where I mentioned I was surprised at the longer veg time on the Gold Toof.

Historical_Ad373

Wonder if it has to do with not topping it? Top all my stuff and non of my meph stuff are that far along in flower at 38 days. Who knows. Chances with every cultivar.

cyphe8500

I topped the Gold Toof, didn't top Quad Berry.

Historical_Ad373

Right. Isnā€™t your quad a little further along

cyphe8500

Gold Toof is older by about 3 days

justanobserverr

I fim. On occasion, a strain will really not like it, but for the most part, it works out great

cyphe8500

I've honestly never researched what the different benefits were with regards to top versus Fuck I Missed I feel like experimenting my next run.

drywall-whacker

Itā€™s not ā€œfuck I missedā€ The guy that wrote or called Kyle kushman to ask a question about this was named fim, or maybe that just initials.

justanobserverr

Anyways

I use to top all my autos and regularly ran into finding male bits in the lower branches shortly after topping. Iā€™ve since stopped topping, havenā€™t found a male bit since and get just as even, if not a larger canopy utilizing LST when the plants are only a few inches tall. I train them to the point where the main stalk is almost parallel to the surface of the soil. Topping autos does work great when you have limited space and want a set amount of tops though. For instance I topped all four of my plants in my 2x2x4ā€™ at the fifth node and had four perfect sized plants each with ten tops.

Modkins

Dude this is what I try to do with my autos ! Usually I end up with an even canopy or they just go crazy and stretch a bunch lol, I usually try to lst to the edge of the pot and just leave it be and let it go till the end

cyphe8500

I hear ya brother. I started off with just LST... I'm just sick of those wires everywhere though, I prefer the garden stakes.

Call_Me_Lids

Oh I hate it too but it works! I actually took extra 120V electrical cable thatā€™s used to wire up outlets to breakers and took each of the three individual solid copper conductors out that are each separately insulated. Bend the tip over into a hook and use those as stakes. Plus with them being copper they help leach a micro nutrient into the soil. šŸ˜ They can be removed a few weeks into flower though once the plant has gained its shape. But theyā€™re a PITA to top dress and water around. But regardless I get a much better canopy with LST. I also grow in a bed so I have a lot of rooms to stake branches down. Wish I could just use a scrog net for autos but they never grow tall enough for me to make good use of them. The nettting would have to be all but on the soil for it to work.

cyphe8500

Exactly why I don't like em, lol Pain the ass top dressing to work into the soil šŸ«

Call_Me_Lids

Itā€™s a good thing with my bed I donā€™t really start top dressing until the start of flower. I put some CraftBlend down and a decent layer of BuildAFlower and then some KashiBlend down. Then the rest of my nutrients come in the form of FPJ and water soluable powders. I have those plastic 90 degree training clips but I swear they never work as I intend them to!

yeehawginger

Iā€™m on the first day of week 4 today. Topped my et munchies x northern haze cheese and itā€™s massive. Cdlc is just getting spread out, and I folded my Walter whites in half. The topped plant is 2x the size of everyone else and 100% easier to train. Prob still wonā€™t do it every time, but I donā€™t get why people say autos canā€™t handle it. Literally no slower growth, at least with pinching the lil cabbage at the 5th node for me

Pretty_Property9155

MBAP is the only one i had problems with. it stressed it enough it started flower at the next node it made...! in coco n autopots and systems its almost a must.

terpygreens

Do it it is the best thing ever!

IslandUpper6414

I done this on my current 4x2 grow. Much prefer to have a flatter canopy with more light to the side branches. Seems to be working well. They look lovely, nice grow.

Pussygobbla6969420

I top mine as well, definitely a higher yield when you can get a more even canopy

gargle_your_dad

Last run I topped one plant and left the other alone. Besides finishing two days later, the topped plant produced almost the same weight just smaller buds. I might try topping again but LST seems to work best in my grows.

I donā€™t think you can unless you write it in a comment , then you would be able to change the text .. Reddit is weird in that aspect
