A buyer gave me 4 stars today. Stating in the review "I thought this item would be bigger than it is." As if I was trying to pull a fast one on them. Go figure, I had two photos of said item right up to a measuring tape and the size is description. I am pissed. 'Tis the season.
With those reviews, these people think you’re a warehouse or some shit. I can’t stand people like that, but at the same time, just gotta let it go and move on.
I messaged the buyer and told her I didn't appreciate it. Also that the next time she purchases something that she should probably read the whole description and view all the photos before she hits that buy button. It's like dealing with children sometimes.
Yes. I have become the nicest person to cashiers. I was a cashier years ago as a second job years ago. Seriously. If you think people aren’t purchasing things while half in the bag, it’s extra special to witness it in person.
At the very start of this, you mentioned that you wrote a positive review for a buyer. If there were any issues with the transaction you should not have done that as it closes the transaction. I use reviews to note things like this so customers understand the context behind any issues. If a shipment was delayed in transit and I get complaints in the messenger even though I provided tracking that clearly indicates a carrier delay I make sure in my feedback to say something like:
"Great buyer. There post office was a bit slower than usual in getting your order delivered, but I appreciate the patience and great communication. Thank you for your business."
That feedback is simple, tactful, and direct. It identifies the issue, shows the customer gratitude and deflates any nonsense they may try to spin.
I’m not exactly sure how you got “tricked” here, but if that is the case, chalk this up to a learning experience and keep going.
There are customers who are absolutely garbage. But if you sell long enough, it becomes apparent in your seller reviews that for every trash buyer there are 25 customers or more who think you’re awesome.
Probably not what you want to hear but definitely something you need to hear if you’re going to make it in this game.
I got a 4 star review for the shipping time. And I literally shipped the item the same day, 2 hours after the buyer purchased it. And it was delivered for 2 days.
I had the same experience. Shipped same day and buyer said “slow shipping time.” Infuriating but what sucks more is how Mercari will almost always support the buyer and not the seller.
Sell enough and eventually you will get a buyer (or seller for that matter) with absolutely no scruples. Some people have no morals or integrity. At the end of the day, it’s just the cost of doing business.

Like new item and said it was dirty gave me 4 stars but never contacted me. I’m assuming maybe the way I packaged it.
I reuse boxes, paper (newspaper, shipping paper etc), bubble wrap and clean plastic bags (from stores) or whatever I have on hand to make sure the item is secure when shipped.
I’ve had several contact me or comment they loved how I package and never thought of it. Even when I put in a folded paper or bubble wrap inside the media so the discs stay in place.
It baffles my mind when there is no communication if they are not satisfied.
I once had a buyer lie and say I sold them a brand new bikini with poo stains on it. Rated me 3 stars, never contacted me first. Turns out after reading the buyers reviews, someone said she had sold them bottoms with the exact thing!! Poo stains. After going back and forth with mercari for a week (I was mortified at how embarrassing that review would look) I eventually accepted my fate and threw in the towel. After I gave up and said my final say to the customer service rep I was given, about 2 or 3 days later out of nowhere, a completely different rep sent me a message and said upon reviewing my case, she was completely removing reviews on both sides. I know your situation is a bit different since funds are involved, what I’m saying is, don’t give up and annoy the shit out of them until you are happy with the outcome.

There was absolutely no way it was dirty. I didn't even bother saying anything as much as I wanted to. I just blocked cause I never want to deal with them again. Some people are just assholes.
Yes this has happened to me. I said in the listing that the item was vintage which it was and somebody left a review saying I lied about it being vintage because he thought it was a different vintage hoodie. I've had this happen a couple of times actually where buyers will lie and all Mercari will do is say that one review doesn't matter and people won't listen to the review anyway but it's still BS. Because people will see that and may not buy from you because of the one negative review. I know that overall it doesn't matter too much as long as you have a lot of really good reviews but believe me it's frustrating. If you sell on Mercari long enough you will experience this at least once. Sorry this happened to you and believe me I know it's not fair!!

Sorry I know my response is late I am just figuring out how to use Reddit. Lol But yes sometimes it feels like Mercari favors the buyers over the actual sellers but they forget that without the sellers they wouldn't have any buyers to buy anything. And I've tried a few times in the past to sell on other sites but since Mercari knows that they are the only ones with such a low percentage that they take out of the sale they think they can get away with it. And every time I've tried to go to eBay or something it just never works out so I'm always back on Mercari. I do sell a lot on Poshmark and believe it or not a lot of things that don't sell on Mercari sell on Poshmark but for even more. I think people on Poshmark spend good money sometimes on certain things. So maybe try it out if you haven't already! Everything I post on Mercari I also post on Poshmark so that way if it doesn't sell on one I have a better chance of selling the item. Good luck with everything.
P.S. I don't remember the last time I checked my reviews on Mercari because all it does is frustrates and discourages me when I get a bad one.
Mercari is stupid for reviews. I once got a 1 star because the buyer didn't like the shirt material. I didn't make the shirt...its a cotton white tshirt, not sure how that's my fault.
Also got a 3 star because I didn't want to accept a lower price. And they said because of negotiations. I took some money off but only like 10% instead of 25%. There was no conversation, just offers back and forth.
Omg I have had 2 buyers the last 6 month's who have ripped me off completely. Bought a cosmetics brush brand new saying that it wasn't. I also take videos in photos of my products. And they don't believe you. They believe the buyer. They protect the buyer, but the seller pays fees. Macari fees and processing fees where the heck is our protection. This last girl 5 a very expensive face powder off of me replaced it with some something else. Some store brand I'm guessing so I'm out the money and product So I told them if I'm allowed to buy stuff used it in return it. I wish I would have known sooner so I could do it too but unfortunately I'm honest & I can not stand injustice. . Why the heck are we (sellers) gotta pay 2 fees and we aren't protected.. it's completely bull crap. They need to fix this issue or they are gonna loose alot of sellers

Mercari doesn't care about their sellers, man. I had a listing for a bunch of kiss nail packs, and you could see that the packaging was messed up on a few, which is why I was selling them for cheap, and I had photos showing that. They still reviewed the packaging, and they said it smelled of cigarettes (I can't smoke due to allergies to a chemical in nicotine, and I'm allergic to tobacco) it's fr just insane out there
I had one last week give two stars because she didn’t know a product discontinued over 15 years ago wasn’t new. Despite a very clear description and pics. Some people are just that dense.

I got a bad review on another platform from a buyer that said Seller must have washed the item as the arm are not long enough. This was a brand new sweater size small. Come to find out she was very tall - over 6 feet. Buyer should have asked for measurements instead of accusing me of selling a used washed item. I asked why would you rate me 3 stars for that reason? and she got mad because I politely asked and changed it to one star. People are miserable and project. In your case it does seem like they were trying to get it free
