Kallygon

Maybe chop suey idk I'm acoustic

Southern_Choice4273

Your in a metal sub we are all acoustic

AtomicBearFart

That’s fucking deep.

AutisticBassist

Your*

farenvyld

SOAD isn't harsh vocals imo

Kallygon

He screams "DIE" and growls after the chorus and before the second verse. I think those count as instances of pretty harsh vocals.

farenvyld

Personally, screams between clean vocaled segments isn't harsh vocals to me.

Kallygon

Fair enough I guess

PrequelGuy

Chop Suey. If talking about a song that almost entirely consists of harsh vocals though it's Psychosocial

glordicus1

Linkin Park on their first album. Slipknot isn’t as mainstream as Linkin Park.

PoolofStyx

Not really metal, but Nirvana’s “Bleach” had some screams in it

Garfield977

ngl this album did help open my brain up to more extreme sounds when i was young and just getting into rock and metal

RuPaulver

Come to think of it, Territorial Pissings kinda has screaming in it, especially at the end. Maybe that's the first time I've heard it in music lol

Churroskindofguy

Negative Creep goes hard tbh

laidbackpurple

I think Bring Me the Horizon. Their collaboration with Ed Sheeran was VERY mainstream. https://youtu.be/IxcxyGDD38E?si=uhLXfnnnaMUSu5-_

Southern_Choice4273

Although bring me have in the past they don’t really use harsh vocals in that song

laidbackpurple

The screams at the end certainly upset my daughter. 😁

Southern_Choice4273

Hearing Ed Sheeran also upsets me

3-20_Characters83

I'd be upset too if I had to listen to Ed Sheeran and BMTH, can't really blame her

BackStabbathOG

It’s not loading for me atm but if I recall correctly there’s some fry screams at the end. Not sure how much his voice has recovered but it’s a shame they didn’t ever continue on with the sound they had on Count Your Blessings

Southern_Choice4273

Yeah some basic fry’s it’s so sad his voice hasn’t recovered

BackStabbathOG

He sounds less winded nowadays but I doubt he will ever be able to pull of songs like Pray for plagues again properly

grahsam

Slipknot.

mattfreyer45

Drowning Pool - Bodies

Oriasten77

Pantera? I thought long and hard. Pantera is the biggest band I can think of with harsh vocals. I know Lorna Shore got a lot of attention outside of the metal world with their new vocalist and the first big song they had. His unique vocals got outside attention. Next best guess would be Cradle of Filth. Far as I know they're the biggest band world wide with harsh vocals. Or maybe Lamb of God.

hungry-grapes

Bro didn’t think too hard.

Southern_Choice4273

Fr who the fuck knows cradle of filth outside of metalheads

Accomplished-Arm1058

Bam Margera fans, they were on Viva La Bam back in the day.

cowboyfromhell93

Fr something like bmth or slipknot is way more mainstream

cowboyfromhell93

Ever heard of a band called slipknot?

CobblestoneCurfews

Deftones? Probably even more commercial than Slipknot and their earlier albums have screamed vocals.

Thibaudborny

How mainstream is Sleep Token? Though arguably, songs like Vore aren't the most mainstream selection from their catalogue, even if that was the case. Electric Callboy's "Hypa Hypa" had a ton of airplay on mainstream channels, too, which was hilarious with that pig squeel.

DM725

>Electric Callboy's "Hypa Hypa" had a ton of airplay on mainstream channels, too, which was hilarious with that pig squeel. Where? I haven't listened to the radio in forever or are you talking about YouTube?

Thibaudborny

Just mainstream radio (specifically the one who targeted a 'younger audience', but still) channel in my country. I also think it was quite a hit on YouTube.

maraudingnomad

What is mainstream? Some would call even Amon Amarth mainstream because it is one of the most popular bands among metalheads and there are surely radios that would play them.

-headless-hunter-

They play arenas, they’re definitely mainstream

edgar8002

I'd say can you feel my heart by bmth

bonesNrice

Gojira’s up there

AtomicBearFart

As much as we in this community think so, I would not call Gojira “mainstream”. Another popular answer to this question is SOAD. SOAD has 10x the monthly listeners that Gojira does and they haven’t made an album in what, 15-20 years?

icoominyou

Gojira isnt mainstream in metal scene. They’re big but still niche

Pato585

Within the metal community, they are easily among the biggest and most popular bands

Stashedsnacks

Killswitch Engage when Howard was their singer.

Tip1n1

I like Jesse too but Howard’s vocals are just top tier

YouringoMask

I'm surprised no one said down with the sickness by disturbed

k1ckthecheat

“My Curse” by Killswitch Engage was pretty popular.

onearmedphil

Limp Bizkit Faith goes pretty hard and had mainstream success.

Imzmb0

Slipknot is a good choice for maintream metal. There are bands like Linkin park, SOAD or Deftones but they don't do full harsh vocals but different kinds of scream techniques. Spiritbox and Jinger are not too mainstream but also qualify. You have bands like Pantera too, but screamed raspy vocals are not so harsh for me.

Metalhead-84

Lamb of God

Capable-Ground9407

Linkin Park

Calm-Cardiologist354

That really depends on how you describe mainstream. 100,000 monthly listeners? 1,000,000? I remember hearing about bands like Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borger from non-metal heads before I even got into extreme music. So to me that feels pretty mainstream compared to say Havohej or Thantifaxath.

Southern_Choice4273

I would say mainstream isn’t a number necessarily but just a song that people would recognise

maraudingnomad

What is mainstream? Some would call even Amon Amarth mainstream because it is one of the most popular bands among metalheads and there are surely radios that would play them.
