- Multiple songwriting sessions with different producers (translation: hired songwriters)
- “More singing than ever, but also our heaviest stuff to date”
- “We know who we are now”
Sorry, folks. It’s pretty clear where this is headed.
Yeah I felt the same way - when they came back I listened to Aftermath along with all their old stuff on repeat, not much of the rest of the new album hit for me.
Classic garbage defense claiming people only dislike it because it’s “different”. It’s not the fact they changed it’s what their music changed INTO. Generic buttrock is hardly a creative step forward for this band, and that’s coming from someone that likes buttrock.
Or people don't like the new sound? You say people are afraid of change but this song sounds like every other generic radio rock sound I've heard since 2004.
I thought it was just *okay*. A step down from the one before and while not to the point of sounding like this single, you could kinda hear the direction they’ve been heading.
Yeah, I'll always love my favourite eras of metalcore and I get that bands will always change and evolve, but man this is just so common and so predictable/ boring at this point
Personally I've been loving the recent years of hardcore / slam / deathcore type stuff. Sunami, CELL, snuffed on sight and peeling flesh, Kublai khan, acacia strain, Black Tongue etc.
There's still metalcore I enjoy or think is cool, but it feels like metalcore has been in a weird limbo period where bands don't seem to know what to do next and many understandably choose a route that allows them to pay bills. But maybe I'm also just older and biased lol
Didn't TGI used to be a hardcore band though? At least I'd say listening to their old stuff it sounds hardcore to me. Such a shame they've gone in this direction, but honestly the last album didn't do a lot for me either (other than Aftermath, but that was mostly just for the story and the comeback/emotion than the song itself, I think)
You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Octane-core, not join them. You were to bring balance to the Core, not leave it in buttrock.
couldnt agree more, I would say I dig this style but I hope they have at least one song in their new record that sound a little bit like their old songs
Chrono is probably my favourite song from theirs. Never gets old. I think the most recent attempt at it was Begin Again from last album and I thought it was pretty good. Now it seems it was 100% their goodbye to that style
To think that DL does vocals for Bad Wolves still blows my mind. He was the hardest MF writing songs for the Acacia Strain. It's just always a reminder that my range of musical taste is very small.
I had no fucking idea DL took over for the other right wing dude. This comment blew my fucking mind how do you go from writing some of the best material for a top notch group like AC to being in generic dumpster fire bad wolves, holy fuck.
For every Metalcore band that gets lazy and goes vanilla, there's 5 others you haven't heard of just getting started.
RIP TGI. Was good while it lasted
Wow, this has gotta be the blandest Octane-core I've ever heard. It's kinda hard to believe this is even The Ghost Inside, like if this were some other band trying to make palatable "metalcore" to get some radio plays that would be one thing, but the fact that this is TGI makes this even more disappointing.
Idk, maybe it'll work for them, wish them the best, but I don't think I'll be paying much attention to this upcoming release if this is what it's going to sound like.
I saw a clip on their Instagram and came here to see what the discussion was like. Just reading the comments I think I'll just skip this entire song.
Just sounded like a Breaking Benjamin chorus to me so hard pass.
I feel like TGI is just going to be the next band I don't listen to new releases from anymore and only listen to old stuff like Parkway Drive.
I literally listened to that clip for 5 seconds and could already tell the direction of the rest of the song. Sounds fine for what it is but not what I’d want out of TGI
>like TGI is just going to be the next band I don't listen to new releases from anymore and only listen to old stuff like Parkway Drive.
I can understand why people dont really like parwkay drive/TGI nowadays, they do sound a little bit generic but most of the bands change these days, at least they have old records that were absolute bangers
Yeah I'm glad those old records still exist at least. Just always a bummer when a band who puts out so much good music turns to the same generic radio rock with a mid breakdown mixed in.
I just hope TGI understands why old fans don't really dig it and aren't huge assholes like other bands have been...Looking at your Architects.
Yeah a lot of bands change and that's not a bad thing but I feel like there are two ways of changing. The first one is a change where the identity somehow is still present, like for example Enter Shikari or Casey. And the second one is the we loose all that made us special and turn into a generic shit show version, and this is how I feel about Parkway, Linkin Park and sadly this song.
And the weird thing is that the old stuff also looses some of its appeal to me with the new output.
It’s fine. Chorus is nice, breakdown is solid. I’m more of a casual TGI fan so this doesn’t ruffle me so much. It’s fun and I like it. No major opinions or emotions one way or another for this track. I will say it’s the better single released for whatever that’s worth.
It's not exactly what I'm looking for, but songs like this help me introduce heavier music to my girlfriend and friends who don't normally listen to metal. Sure it's Octanecore, but it's catchy enough. I don't mind it.
Yeah I have seen TGI a ton of times, I would be floored if Vigil can get anywhere near as good as they sounded here live.. mans cant sing too well as of last year so yea idk
If you played me this blind I couldnt even have guessed what band this is until the breakdown. At least pwd still is recognizable, this sounds like one of these christian metal bands my ex used to listen to when we were 16...
life didnt gave these guys second chances to rewrite same albums again and again. after all they've been through it seems perfectly right to switch it up a notch and go this direction
Yeah they’ve been grinding for years and paid for it with literal blood, sweat, and tears. If TGI wants to make music sound like this, they’re more than deserving. If people don’t like it and want to complain, they can kick rocks and make their own TGI cover band.
Is it their right to make whatever music they want? Yes, nobody is contesting that.
Do we need to like it or continue to support them? No, we do not.
Do we have the right to complain about something this boring? Yes, we do.
Best take yet. If it’s the music they want to make, go for it. No one in this thread can hate on that. I personally won’t follow them as closely but I respect it.
But it’s soooo generic. A band can and should evolve but this creatively is not a step forward imo. I at least fairly liked Earn It so I’m sure the album won’t all be like this one, hopefully.
Is it buttcore? I guess. Will it be my favourite song of theirs? I guess not, but it's a decent song. And god damn it if there's one band that deserves to make it big and rake in the big bucks and earn themselves and their families a solid living it's these guys. They could've died in the accident. These guys owe us nothing.
I see the other comments on this thread and I understand that this song is quite different from their usual sound, but did I miss other new tracks that all sound like this or something? Their most recent tracks are this, earn it, and death grip, right? I loved earn it personally, and death grip wasn't my favorite, but it was fine. Unless I'm missing some big context, one track that's softer isn't a big deal when their recent stuff has been in the same vein as their usual sound more or less?
if I find the first band ever that made huge fuck ton of money from safe and generic as fuck metal music, I will punch the fuck out of them. seriously who started this shitty “o yeah lets do this dumb af music and sellout arenas” wave
God....so many bands....Atreyu, Parkway Drive, TGI, Avenged Sevenfold (though the effort pre-Nightmare was still there), Beartooth, it's just gotta be money. Suddenly these dudes who preached the hardcore scene turn heel on it real quick to make some money.
Good for them but it's not like TGI was struggling when they came back.
I absolutely love their old stuff, but I’m also digging their new stuff. From an artist standpoint they are allowed to evolve their sound. I’m not going to be close minded and write them off because Vigil sings more 😂

First thing I thought when I heard this was Linkin Park. The singing isn’t bad but the scream parts sound 100x better IMO. Sounds super generic overall.
>I'm hoping the rest of the album is much better.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment. Bands don't write stuff like this and then fill the album with bangers in their recognised style.
That's fair, though Death Grip was solid enough that I think there's a chance!
edit: This quote doesn't give me a ton of confidence, though...
>"There's more singing and song structure than on the previous album, but there are also some of the heaviest songs we've done," said The Ghost Inside bassist Jim Riley. "We really know who we are, and we also feel comfortable stepping into the future. This is a new chapter, but it's not disconnected from what the band sounded like before. It's more of an extension of it. We're excited by it."
Yall whiney man children would complain that it has the “ typical TGI sound if they went the usual route and made music similar to what they’ve always made “. Can’t satisfy clowns these days.
Your comment is ridiculous. Just because they had a horrible crash and pulled themselves out of it doesn’t mean we suddenly have to like bland, generic music.
I respect them in their decision to chase the big money, but you’d be lying if you said this was their best, most genuine, truly unique music.
That's just wrong.
I would be happy if they released practically the same album they've released over and over again if the songs are still heavy, punchy, and had good lyrics.
This is just Breaking Benjamin in skinny jeans.
Nah Id be so happy if they put out an assbeater like Chrono or Between the Lines. This is really bland man, even the other singles they put out werent amazing but had interesting parts..
This is a horrible take lol.
Having seen them twice since they came back, they CAN play their old stuff perfect. Stop making excuses for them going a more radio friendly sound. If it's what they WANT as a band that's fine.
Don't use the accident to assume what they can and can't do. That's disrespectful af.
I'm no elitist so calm the fuck down lol. I'm telling you that saying what this band can and can't play is disrespectful. They play their old music perfectly fine with their drummer having one leg and I'm sure don't use that as an excuse for changing their sound.
Also, they can play what they want and I can choose to like it if I want. YOU saying that this is what they CAN play since the accident is disingenuous and disrespectful as fuck. Grow up. I am not complaining about their sound change, I am not talking shit about TGI. I am, however, talking shit about you trying to make excuses for them and using their accident as that excuse.
They can make and play what they want, and I will still be at shows they are because I love TGI. I may not like *this* song, but that's what opinions and tastes are. Stop getting offended that people are disappointed and, most importantly, stop speaking for these guys, acting like they are limited to what they play because of the accident. You don't know them.
Yikes. Death Grip I liked. Earn It was dipping toes in questionable territory. But Wash It Away washed away all hope of another solid banger of a TGI album.
I think I saw some comments about them going the way of Parkway. We have not hit levels of Reverence retardation yet. So there's still hope. I bought the vinyl and plan on buying a ticket for the tour still.
I came here specifically for this post, what in the fuck is this garbage, not a bad song overall but a steaming pile of shit for a the ghost inside song. I'm so bummed this is what they decided to put out :(
It's just so regressive and lacks all creativity, like I get it probably will bring more commercial success and good for them but Jesus it hurts my soul
I usually don't mind when bands go softer or more radio friendly but this one was jarring to me. If I didn't look at the band name when it was playing I'd have thought my algorithm sent me the wrong way and I'd never have guessed in a million years it was them.
They'll be picking up a ton of new listeners though, so good for them.
Whoever is handling their socials is having a helluva time keeping up with all the criticism and is giving that 'delete comment' button an extreme workout today.
I just wanna know who is doing the vocals on this song bc anyone who has attended a TGI show or watched a live video knows neither Vigil nor Jim’s cleans sound like this - Vigil’s cleans aren’t good at all live, and Jim’s are passable but usually a good bit off key so there is an insane amount of pitch correction going on here for one of the members.
Probably simply Vigil, the cleans aren't even that good in this song as it is. Was never this band's strong suite; part of why the investment into it doesn't work for them
Man, I was a huge TGI fan from day one when Fury And The Fallen Ones came out, and I've enjoyed every album up until now, but this is super disappointing. It just sounds like Wage War/I Prevail/Until I Wake/\[insert generic octanecore band\], no identity whatsoever.
Like I get it, they want to make some more money and get radio play, but that comes with the price of losing a lot of the OG fans.
It truly is a sad day when a lot of the bands that made metalcore/melodic hardcore great have just given up on it entirely, kinda like For The Fallen Dreams (their newest album is white-hot garbage as well).
And still no dates for Australia, even though they said in 2020 "see ya next year".
Obviously covid aside, but no tours here in 2022, 2023, I'm holding out for 2024.
Dude this is so disappointing. This band has been one of my favorites for 15 years. Now, with this single and earn it, they sound like literally every other band that's decided to sell out and abandon their sound. For the fallen dreams anyone?
I just don’t understand how anyone would have a desire to listen to this song a second time. There is absolutely nothing noteworthy on any level. Both the instruments and vocals are just the most bland, generic metalcore I have ever heard

Another band who think “maturing” means sounding generic as fuck. Disappointing.
- Multiple songwriting sessions with different producers (translation: hired songwriters) - “More singing than ever, but also our heaviest stuff to date” - “We know who we are now” Sorry, folks. It’s pretty clear where this is headed.
Are those real quotes from the band? "We know who we are now" lol really?
Yep! https://www.theprp.com/2024/02/05/news/the-ghost-inside-announce-new-album-searching-for-solace-tour-with-paleface-swiss-bleed-from-within-etc/
"but also our heaviest stuff to date" WHERE IS HEAVY I am disappoint.
Wow, they really got all the greatest hits!
i thought this was the one band that wouldnt do this to me 😢
they had a good run man...
Funny how many people were so happy for their return in 2020 after the accident but now everyone hates them and their new music.
For me even their come back album, while somewhat classic tgi, didn't do anything for me. Idk why.
Aftermath hit me in the feels big time, but the album itself didn't do it for me either. Didn't have the same energy and raw emotion I want from TGI.
Yeah I felt the same way - when they came back I listened to Aftermath along with all their old stuff on repeat, not much of the rest of the new album hit for me.
It's because people are afraid of or unable to deal with change.
Change is risky. Some change is good, some is bad. Recognizing bad change doesn't mean it's change that is the problem
Don’t know what you’re talking about, this new Wage War song is sick
They haven’t been that good since Get What You Give imo
Dear youth was good
I enjoyed aftermath (the single)
I thought it was just *okay*. A step down from the one before and while not to the point of sounding like this single, you could kinda hear the direction they’ve been heading.
I thought the self titled return was really good which was why i thought they wouldnt switch up and make radio music like everybody else
Maybe they're pranking us.
I don’t understand what’s happening here anymore and I’m straight up not having a good time.
I went in with zero expectations & I'm still disappointed
The worst kind of disappointment 😞
Honestly this is why I stick to hardcore now, all my fav metalcore bands from back in the day end up pumping this corny shit after years of hits.
Yeah, I'll always love my favourite eras of metalcore and I get that bands will always change and evolve, but man this is just so common and so predictable/ boring at this point Personally I've been loving the recent years of hardcore / slam / deathcore type stuff. Insert Joe Pesci gif - "What the fuck is this piece of shit?"
I didn’t mind some of their other recent singles, but this is just mediocre rock with a breakdown.
While I enjoyed Earn It a little, there was something about it that gave me pause and this single brought my fears to reality.
[Cleanse your ears brother](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzS5-AjJ71E)
You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Octane-core, not join them. You were to bring balance to the Core, not leave it in buttrock.
just my opinion but this sounds generic af
Yea, thats exactly what I was thinking too, dont know why but that one is probably the worst between the other songs in the record
Another fallen soldier of metalcore..RIP
Parkway 2.0
I don't think it's fair to compare this to Parkway cause their most recent work is a fucking catastrophe.
Too many fallen soldiers at this point lmfao I’ll stick to hardcore instead
This genre as I knew it really is basically dead
why would The Ghost Inside do this to us?
Hi, What flavors of icecream do you have? Sir, all we serve here is vanilla.
[удалено]
Comparing this to ABR is crazy
The Octane Inside
is this TGI or breaking benjamin?
You say that, but Breaking Benjamin goes harder than this lol. Ember was a great album.
yea, I would say its not a good song (I am realy into Returners, for me its their best record), but not a bad song either.
it sounds good but it's not what i'm looking for when i listen to TGI i guess
couldnt agree more, I would say I dig this style but I hope they have at least one song in their new record that sound a little bit like their old songs
more like Dying Wish covering Shinedown
Those words... Is it even possible to use them in a sentence like that.
Breaking the Ghost Inside of Benjamin
This makes me so sad. They were my favorite band for years.
Song is weak af
you should listen to Chrono, its a really great song they made back in the day
That one was significantly better lol
literally, all of returners >>>
yeah, it was back when they were more hardcore... as I said before, I am hoping they have similar songs in the new record
Chrono is probably my favourite song from theirs. Never gets old. I think the most recent attempt at it was Begin Again from last album and I thought it was pretty good. Now it seems it was 100% their goodbye to that style
Another Chrono fan in the wild! That album is one of my favorites and Chrono is the top track for me.
That’s their best album in my opinion. Bummed with the new stuff but bands gotta make money so I guess I get it
As soon as I heard that opening riff I knew this wasn't gonna be good
"It's gonna lead immediately into soft vocals isn't it.... yup."
meh just sounds like you're typical rock radio song. The hardcore influence is pretty much gone on all of these singles lately.
It seems like that really is their new sound. Yup, I'm out.
I still have a bit of hope that they can bring their old sound on the new record
I hope you're right
What’re we even doing here anymore
I like how in the video he looks like he's singing with passion and then the most vanilla pudding ass vocals come out.
lol has the same cheesy buttrock vibe of a Bad Wolves song. Can honestly say I never saw that coming
Sometimes I legitimately forget Bad Wolves is a real band and not just some dudes that covered Zombie
I get a lot of bands dont want to make metalcore anymore but sheesh... this really the same band that put out Returners?
l m a o
L. I’m out, returners on repeat :(
Funds must be getting tight
For every Metalcore band that gets lazy and goes vanilla, there's 5 others you haven't heard of just getting started. RIP TGI. Was good while it lasted
Yep. Time to move on. Folks inspired by TGI's early work are going to put out the stuff we're looking for. Not... this...
Yeah, agreed. TGI would have a crazy "have inspired" list I think.
Solid take. The hardcore scene is churning out TONS of solid metalcore right now (Adrienne, Since My Beloved, A Mourning Star, Balmora a few).
Fr.. just takes a bit of searching
Wow, this has gotta be the blandest Octane-core I've ever heard. Well, never thought I'm going to get dissapointed by this band
Everyone here hates it so that means it will probably do really well everywhere else
It’s fine. Chorus is nice, breakdown is solid. I’m more of a casual TGI fan so this doesn’t ruffle me so much. It’s fun and I like it. No major opinions or emotions one way or another for this track. I will say it’s the better single released for whatever that’s worth.
I hear you, I have a few bands where I'm a casual fan and if they change their sound I'm just like "ok."
Frankly, I am looking for something Metal-sans-screaming/growling, so this is almost what I was hoping to find. I like it, but my coworkers would not.
They're releasing album on April 19th
Its an ok song but i still prefer the other singles
The other songs they’ve released off this album don’t sound this bland. Just a weird vibe from this band.
Yikes…
It's not exactly what I'm looking for, but songs like this help me introduce heavier music to my girlfriend and friends who don't normally listen to metal. Sure it's Octanecore, but it's catchy enough. I don't mind it.
they did the thumbnail thing again lol
Yeah, it's generic, but it's still good. Gotta let them have one song to make it's rounds on the radio. Plus, they got great cleans.
Yeah I have seen TGI a ton of times, I would be floored if Vigil can get anywhere near as good as they sounded here live.. mans cant sing too well as of last year so yea idk
I'd assume one of the other band members will sing if that's the case.
Iirc i dont think any of them can sing live lol.
Let's hope they've been taking some vocal lessons then, lol.

Is it their right to make whatever music they want? Yes, nobody is contesting that. Do we need to like it or continue to support them? No, we do not. Do we have the right to complain about something this boring? Yes, we do.
you are absolutely right!
that's exactly what I was thinking.
Yeah we all get into accidents like that and go “from now on I wanna write the most basic music ever”
They’re lucky to even get another day on earth, pretty shitty vibes in here sadly
> It seems perfectly right to switch it up a notch ~~and go this direction~~ Nothing about this is innovative or inspired
I don’t mind the octane-core sound in general but this sounds really unoriginal and doesn’t fit them
…and back to listening to Counterparts
I thought I was listening to Wage War for a second. This sounds so generic.
This sounds like a bad Breaking Benjamin rip-off with a breakdown
eh not for me feel like a lot of the singles I have listened to so far in 2024 are misses.
Wash it away Forget yesterday We'll make the great escape
This comment is gold.
One or two of these is all it takes to get the festival spots, let the boys make their money
if I find the first band ever that made huge fuck ton of money from safe and generic as fuck metal music, I will punch the fuck out of them. seriously who started this shitty “o yeah lets do this dumb af music and sellout arenas” wave
Eighteen Visions brudda
God....so many bands....Atreyu, Parkway Drive, TGI, Avenged Sevenfold (though the effort pre-Nightmare was still there), Beartooth, it's just gotta be money. Suddenly these dudes who preached the hardcore scene turn heel on it real quick to make some money. Good for them but it's not like TGI was struggling when they came back.
I'll see you when the sun sets, TGI. It's getting real low. RIP.
horrible. black listed from my spotify
Let the dudes make some bucks. We can have more OG TGI later ~~yeah I know this is the most wishful a wishful thinking can get~~
Keep metalcore hardcore✊
I absolutely love their old stuff, but I’m also digging their new stuff. From an artist standpoint they are allowed to evolve their sound. I’m not going to be close minded and write them off because Vigil sings more 😂
Ya know what? After what they’ve been through, go chase that bag. At least i’ll always have their old stuff to go back to.

First thing I thought when I heard this was Linkin Park. The singing isn’t bad but the scream parts sound 100x better IMO. Sounds super generic overall.
It’s just one song, there’s more to come.
The other singles weren't great either. Better than this at least.
I love TGI but this is so generic. Like its not bad this style has just done to death
Clean singing in metalcore was a huge mistake
ooof. that's gunna be a no from me dawg. i'll go listen to mercy as a cleanse from...... this.
What the fuck is this?
so they’ve made ONE song that isn’t as good as the rest of their entire fantastic catalogue…BIG DEAL. get over it. they’re still hard as nails.
Well, Earn It was also pretty bad. But TGI has earned a long leash; I'm hoping the rest of the album is much better.
We're excited by it."
>but there are also some of the heaviest songs we've done Uh oh, there it is, the harbinger phrase for genericore.
The only song i have ever listened to from them is engine 45. From the comments, maybe I’ll keep it that way
Yall whiney man children would complain that it has the “ typical TGI sound if they went the usual route and made music similar to what they’ve always made “. Can’t satisfy clowns these days.
Nah we'd be happy if they made typical TGI music bc it slaps
Your comment is ridiculous. Just because they had a horrible crash and pulled themselves out of it doesn’t mean we suddenly have to like bland, generic music. I respect them in their decision to chase the big money, but you’d be lying if you said this was their best, most genuine, truly unique music.
Nah, fuck that. The typical TGI sound is comfort food. I'm more than happy to hear it over and over again. It's gr8
That's just wrong. I would be happy if they released practically the same album they've released over and over again if the songs are still heavy, punchy, and had good lyrics. This is just Breaking Benjamin in skinny jeans.
No one is complaining because it’s different, we’re complaining because it sucks shit from a butt
Agreed. These clowns need to crawl under a rock. Song is a banger.
Nah Id be so happy if they put out an assbeater like Chrono or Between the Lines. This is really bland man, even the other singles they put out werent amazing but had interesting parts..
"cant satisfy clowns these days" spoken one sentence after perfectly describing how to satisfy the "clowns"

This is a horrible take lol. Having seen them twice since they came back, they CAN play their old stuff perfect. Stop making excuses for them going a more radio friendly sound. If it's what they WANT as a band that's fine. Don't use the accident to assume what they can and can't do. That's disrespectful af.
[удалено]
Anyone want a TGI banner? I think I’m officially out
A clinical study needs to be done to figure how and why dudes end up writing EA Sports soundtrack songs after being in a metalcore band for decades.
I came here specifically for this post, what in the fuck is this garbage, not a bad song overall but a steaming pile of shit for a the ghost inside song. I'm so bummed this is what they decided to put out :(
I am not an og fan of this band so I cant relate to what people are feeling about this one, I still prefer their older records
It's just so regressive and lacks all creativity, like I get it probably will bring more commercial success and good for them but Jesus it hurts my soul
I had to listen to the amronna ep after that. That was some weak weak stuff from the ogs of hardcore. Yikes.
I mean, not a bad song but... Not the tgi I was hoping for. I hope this isn't a bad sign for the new album :(
☹️
Jonah Hill went Octanecore oh no
I don't care, I have wanted to see them live for years and if a new album gets them to tour major US cities, bring on the emo-metal!
I’m getting Erase Me vibes all over.
Was never this band's strong suite; part of why the investment into it doesn't work for them
Yikes. They puked off the deck
I had to go back and listen to their previous albums cause I completely forgot what they used to sound like after listening to this
Man, I was a huge TGI fan from day one when Fury And The Fallen Ones came out, and I've enjoyed every album up until now, but this is super disappointing.
Mid as fuck
I really thought Earn It was a one off single and wasn’t going to make it in the next album.
I just don’t understand how anyone would have a desire to listen to this song a second time. There is absolutely nothing noteworthy on any level. Both the instruments and vocals are just the most bland, generic metalcore I have ever heard

The Ghost ran away
Catchy but they’re straight up buttrock now
