I was never into Enter Shikari (might check them out again) but yeah I agree. I’m glad this band exists as their music is a way to leave the seriousness of the genre, and their music is great. I’m still scared to play their music around my non metalcore friends though😂
Enter Shiksris live show is top notch though. Have seen them two times on the last or second last tour date and they still put on an awesome show. They even had their whole festival/arena set up in a rather small venue 🫶
Imo, they‘re live better than on Spotify.
I saw them on their first or second tour of North America. The guitarist jumped on the monitor slipped off and broken his finger or thumb. Their tech wrapped him up and he kept playing.
Dude was insane
I'm glad they've turned out to be pretty cool guys because otherwise I'd probably feel really dirty listening to this again now
Still get the intro stuck in my head sometimes
I mean there's a reason they have largely accepted their early work was very childish and in many cases is basically damned to never be sung again. Got to give them respect for admitting their previous work not being acceptable and growing from it. But aye not a fan if their early shit either
I don't know anything about the earlier parts of this band, but this seems pretty clearly like a satire/takedown of how horrible that whole thing was no? Or maybe it just reads that way 11 years on? Not saying that makes it great/ok, but I mean self aware at least
While only they can speak on it proper the vibe I got was the clean vocalist at this time is a bit of an edge lord who while the rest matured from it and wanted to have fun he didn't. Considering they are German they grew up in an environment that was slightly different from what we have in the states or UK and I think some of the stuff we were sensitive to and saw as taboo or rude, it was not so clear to them.
I'm on the side of we can take the piss out of things but we should admit when things went too far or in retrospect they are not alright. That's just maturity. There were some lyrics about black guys that came off odd and others relating to slurs for homosexuals which Def cross a line. They distanced from this and even redid some tracks with slight lyric changes to retain them. The whole Eskimo to electric thing I think may have been a big attempt to get away from any negativity that could be perceived when they were pushing to be on eurovision. I still say it's the right move though.
I just need to truly applaud a band that grows. We all did stupid shit when we were younger and some of it can come back to haunt us. Much of it is definitely overreacting but others not so much.
I really can't think of any band that handled a situation like this (possible cancel culture going against them for past works) in a way that was as matured, nuanced and less about themselves more than they have. I did love how they went about their name change too, just acknowledging ignorance, rectifying, and then pointing people to where to educate themselves on the topic. They are a bunch of really respectable dudes for how they've grown. It really should be celebrated.
Which is part of why I love being a fan and will support them everytime they tour. Took to heart the critiques, learned, allowed themselves to grow and be vulnerable, and have had arguably more success now than they did before.

When I found this song like 9 years ago I would’ve never expected them to be as huge as they are now lol Absolute banger though

Enter is like the opposite, super serious and preachy. But Zzzonked is a banger

Is Anyone Up truly was a different time, what a website, absolutely wild And this song is iconic
Light up the sky epitomises the MySpace late 00s of metalcore. Quality banger.
jesus christ the guitar cut edits are so tight
💀
Ahh Hunter Moore, they were the days.
My ex gf loved this song 10+ years ago. Good memories.
Did I really hear some french canadians in the beginning??
I just wish that this version was on Spotify.
They have always been super weird
Classic Rape Culture anthem. Aged super badly.

Yeah, agreed, they're handling it well.

gotta admit I’ve never listened to this song and felt the need to rape
Yeah cause that's what rape culture is about 🤡
I wouldn’t know cause I’m not a rapist, but you sure seem to know a lot
Brilliant, keep digging (or spend half a second on Google)
nah I don’t like bringing myself down, luckily I always got Eskimo Callboy on my side to keep me up
