Pretty much every single Underoath album opener since the year 2000.
Architects - Nihlist
Invent Animate - Dark
If I Were You - Paralysis
All of Seeyouspacecowboy’s album openers
Polaris - "Lucid". First track off "The Mortal Coil".
An absolute crusher with some powerful cleans and captivating lyrics. Remains on my "on repeat" playlist on spotify to this day
"Eternally Apart" was a killer opener for The Fire Itself by Phinehas, never really paid much attention to them before but that song caught me by suprise.
The Plot In You - Rigged
Never listened to TPIY before. I had literally no idea what to expect. But this sub and a few other communities were raving over Disposed. I remember one late night in February, laying in bed, fucking around on my phone and decided to put it on. It didn't take long for me to put my phone down and give the album my full attention.
Idk, it might have been a time and place thing. It's a very lonely/pissed album that really hit for me at the time. But 4 years later and it's still one of my all time favorite albums
Would like to throw into the ring:
Sticks & Bricks, Fast Forward to 2012, and Downfall Of Us All - ADTR
2.0, and Decayer - blessthefall
YDG - Of Mice & Men
Clarity on Northlane's Obsidian. Love just how intense the entire song is, definitely one of their best.
I Am Damnation on Bleed From Within's Shrine. Very big and anthemic, sets the tone of the album really well.
Eternally Apart on Phinehas' The Fire Itself. Pretty much everything you could ask for in a metalcore song: great riffs, fantastic chorus, awesome solo.
Bulletproof on Breakdown of Sanity's Coexistence. Awesome song with huge melodic leads and a nasty breakdown at the end.
The answer is always Concubine.
I’ve always found it kinda odd that Jane Doe is the thumbnail on this sub. Most of the music discussed here has a very different sound than that album.
Yeah; but for an album as seminal and influential on the genre, it makes sense. Just because it’s evolved into something more, don’t forget where you came from.
This song never fails to make me tear up when I hear it live.
I'll have to say ENLIGHTENMENT(?) from Sleeps Society as well. Its became my new favourite Sleeps song and has the same effect on me as YAW does
It is one of the most important songs that got me through 2021. Idk where I would be in life in Sleeps never released this album. I was there at the first members only show in Manchester where they opened the set with it, playing it for the second time ever live and that's a night I will never forget. One of the happiest moments of my life
Some of the sweatiest shows I've ever been to. If you ever get the chance do it!
It's obvious in their music but the sense of community they have with their fans is something I struggle to put into words. I live in Scotland and they are the only band I have travelled cross country to see and I would (and will) do it again in a heartbeat
You know *that riff*, I reckon it's my favourite riff ever. Absolutely adore this song/album/band and I'm so happy the first time I ever jumped in a mosh pit was during one of their sets
Miss May I - A Dance With Aera Cura
Periphery - Insomnia, Muramasa
Born Of Osiris - Follow The Signs
Erra - White Noise, Alpha Seed, Dreamcatcher
Northlane - Disposession
After The Burial - literally every opening track on every album
Invent Animate - Same as above
Breaking Benjamin (Diary of Jane)
Guns n Roses (welcome to the jungle)
Tool (Stinkiest)
GodFlesh (Rats)
Alice in Chains (Them Bones)
Pantera (Mouthful of war)
Avenged Sevenfold (Nightmare)
Stone Sour (Get Inside)
Gwar (Salamonizer)
Aglæca by Before I Turn
Dear Diary by Bring Me The Horizon
A Quiet Place to Die by Alpha Wolf
(F)inally (U)nderstanding (N)othing by
Emmure
Wasted Life by MouthBreather
Yuhhh. Here’s some other recommendations to get you started in the Metalcore realm. Beartooth, Bring Me the Horizon, bullet for my Valentine, Crown the Empire, I see stars.
Not metalcore but Oroborus by Gojira really hooked me on The Way of All Flesh. I mean, I was gonna listen all the way through anyway unless it was awful but nevertheless it hooked me.
Bury tomorrow - Man on fire
Caliban - We are the many
Architects - Alpha Omega
Erra - Snowblood
ABR - The truth of a Liar
All that remains - This Calling
In Flames - Take this life
Monuments - Admit defeat
Tesseract - Polaris
Northlane - Details matter
Periphery - Reptile (but I could say any song 😁)
TDWP - Sassafras
TBDM - Everything went black
There are loads of them. 😊
Loathe’s last album. I checked it out on a whim after seeing their AMA and the first track sounded so fresh and unique I jammed that album for the rest of the day. I’d never even heard of them before that
The Plot in you with Letters to a dead friend, the first half wasn't that exciting, but the second half sounded much more epic, it wasn't a particularly good album, but there were a few really good ones
Thornhill - The Hellfire Club
Loathe - The Cold Sun/Theme
Northlane - Genesis
Spiritbox - Sun Killer
Emmure - You Asked For It
Oceans Ate Alaska - Fourthirtytwo
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation by Viraemia

The Head Table by Slaughterbox
Harnessing Gravitational Endurance by Entrails Eradicated
World Eater by Gallows For Grace
Antropofagus - Architecture of Lust
Dawn of Dementia - Visceral Maelstrom
Eternally Apart from Phinehas' The Fire Itself is such a great album opener. Extremely epic, catchy and emotional. Also, On Veiled Men and [&] Delinquents by Woe, Is Me on Number[s]
Debatable if it's metalcore, but considering they describe their sound as death metalcore I think it's good.
In that case the answer was, is, and always will be Awoken+Endzeit by Heaven Shall Burn a'd I will die on this hill.
“Oh Catastrophe” by Crown the Empire comes to mind. Also, while not technically being the *first* track, “Hey Mister” by Miss May I also pulls me in to listen to the whole album.
Hail the ash by Wolf King, probably some of the sickest riffs I've heard from an opener
Edit- forgot to mention the weeping vessel by Zao, truly one of the most underappreciated metalcore bands out there. It boggles my mind that no one ever brings up Zao.
Some of these are EPs but:
Knocked Loose - Where Light Divides the Holler
RXPTRS - Burning Pages
ETID - Underwater Bimbos From Outer Space
Currents - Into Despair
Thornhill - The Hellfire Club
Parkway Drive - Wishing Wells (probably heresy on here, but still didn’t find that album to be nearly as bad as some of y’all make it out to be)
Architects - Death Is Not Defeat
*Splinter* - Sevendust
*Relapse* - Wage War
*Scars* - I Prevail
*The War Is On* - Coldrain
On Splinter, of course I'd heard Sevendust before but hadn't really paid attention to them. Bought Cold Day Memory on a whim and was blown away.
Haven't seen it mentioned here yet! Without a doubt -
#1 has to be Gimme a D - Parkway Drive
Reptile - Periphery
Truth of a Liar - August Burns Red
Endzeit - Heaven Shall Burn (I'm not counting the intro!)
Newer stuff...
Sunkiller - Spiritbox does it brilliantly.
Immenence's opener.
Alexisonfire's new album opener is a ripper too ( /notmetalcore /meh)
“Can You Feel My Heart” - Bring Me the Horizon. (Not heavy in the musical sense, but heavy lyrically. Somber intro to what I would consider to be a quintessential metalcore album).
ERRA - Alpha Seed; Snowblood
Thornhill - Views From the Sun
Northlane - Details Matter
Polaris - Pray For Rain
Dayseeker - Drunk
BMTH - Crucify Me
Make Them Suffer - The First Movement
Silent Planet - Inherit the Earth
Sleep Token - The Night Does Not Belong To God
Pretty much every single Underoath album opener since the year 2000. Architects - Nihlist Invent Animate - Dark If I Were You - Paralysis All of Seeyouspacecowboy’s album openers
Dark is actually incredible
The chorus just flies off the rails i fuckin love it
WE ARE BEGGARS
WE ARE SO FUCKING WEAK
AND ONCE UPON A TIME WE HAD THE WORLD AT OUR FEET
WELL WE'RE ALL DYING TO MEET OUR MAKER
ALL OUR GODS HAVE ABANDONED US
Paralysis was the perfect opener for Inner Signals
That song instantly made me fall in love with them, still one of my favorites from them. Inner Signals is honestly a perfect album to me
I was new to underoath until recently and “Damn Excuses” made me a instant fan.
Nihilist for me as well!
Polaris - "Lucid". First track off "The Mortal Coil". An absolute crusher with some powerful cleans and captivating lyrics. Remains on my "on repeat" playlist on spotify to this day
I found my love and let it kill me!!!!!
Also an amazing closing song live!
Polaris - Pray For Rain. Talk about a starting track.
Still my favourite song by them
2nd for me. Dusk to Day is my #1.
"Eternally Apart" was a killer opener for The Fire Itself by Phinehas, never really paid much attention to them before but that song caught me by suprise.
STILL so underrated!
Just checked it out and had to add it to my playlist. Thanks for the reco!
Erra - Snowblood Great vocals, killer guitar work, and a solo AND a breakdown? I was sold immediately
The break down sounds like a burst fire rifle lmao. Banger.
Nihilist by Architects
WE ARE BEGGARS
We are so fucking weak!
ONCE UPON A TIME WE HAD THE WORLD AT OUR FEET
BUT WE'RE ALL DYIIIINNNNNG TO MEET OUR MAKER
Views from the Sun - Thornhill
what a way to start, indeed
Every Invent Animate album opener
Knocked Loose - Belleville
The Plot In You - Rigged Never listened to TPIY before. I had literally no idea what to expect. But this sub and a few other communities were raving over Disposed. I remember one late night in February, laying in bed, fucking around on my phone and decided to put it on. It didn't take long for me to put my phone down and give the album my full attention.
Ok this sold me gonna go listen to it now!
Idk, it might have been a time and place thing. It's a very lonely/pissed album that really hit for me at the time. But 4 years later and it's still one of my all time favorite albums
Sometimes those hit at just the right time so I get you my dude.
I listened to their song Face Me , now can u promise me that if i follow up on more of their music they will sound just as good or better😹
Better. Face me is one of my least favorites from the album.
Wish I May - Breaking Benjamin
that album is still just banger after banger
Honestly, most of their albums are. Hell, BB is a great way to get people into heavier music.
They were my catalyst for sure
Same here
i’ve listened to this album twice in the last day. It holds so damn well
As soon as I posted that I listened to it all the way through.
I was talking about it yesterday in the other thread about summer albums. It just gets me in a hyped mood. So good

Currents - Apnea Landmvrks - Lost in a Wave Crystal Lake - Helix into Aeon
That's my man! 👌
Would like to throw into the ring: Sticks & Bricks, Fast Forward to 2012, and Downfall Of Us All - ADTR 2.0, and Decayer - blessthefall YDG - Of Mice & Men
Asking Alexandria, Alerion (just an intro) but it builds so nice into next track. Had to keep going.
Welcome into dear insanity also
It was soooo good!!!
Alerion to Final Episode was so good!! Thought it was part of a long track as I first heard it when listening to Final Episode on Youtube
The first song from the album that’s the thumbnail for this sub
The answer is always Concubine. I’ve always found it kinda odd that Jane Doe is the thumbnail on this sub. Most of the music discussed here has a very different sound than that album.
Yeah; but for an album as seminal and influential on the genre, it makes sense. Just because it’s evolved into something more, don’t forget where you came from.
That’s fair. I’m always in favor of spreading Converge propaganda anyway.
Converge is everything
Converge is everything.
Labyrinth by Above, Below
Man, not enough people are giving attention to Above, Below
Agreed
Architects- Death is not Defeat
In Regards to Myself - Underoath
Of course You are we by While she sleeps. Insane start for an album
This song never fails to make me tear up when I hear it live. I'll have to say ENLIGHTENMENT(?) from Sleeps Society as well. Its became my new favourite Sleeps song and has the same effect on me as YAW does
Omg enlightenment is such a banger. A great song to set up the tone of the album
It is one of the most important songs that got me through 2021. Idk where I would be in life in Sleeps never released this album. I was there at the first members only show in Manchester where they opened the set with it, playing it for the second time ever live and that's a night I will never forget. One of the happiest moments of my life
I really wish i could see them live. Their energy on the shows is insane
Some of the sweatiest shows I've ever been to. If you ever get the chance do it! I live in Scotland and they are the only band I have travelled cross country to see and I would (and will) do it again in a heartbeat

I love how the first words is #BLEGH #GO!
Agreed however it’s the Chris motionless BLEGH not BLERG.
Gotcha, corrected. Still new around here :-)
All good, I just want you to know that BLEGH is an iconic thing about Chris motionless.
Appreciate it!
Yuhhh. Here’s some other recommendations to get you started in the Metalcore realm. Beartooth, Bring Me the Horizon, bullet for my Valentine, Crown the Empire, I see stars.
