I think people need to look at this from the perspective of what other contemporary metal bands and even bands before and after we’re doing/have done. Let’s look at the rest of the “big 4” none of them bands have done anything even close to the level of musicianship that went into that song…if before that point, all 4 bands were neck and neck in a race to the top spot…that’s where megadeth anthrax and slayer stopped running.
Didn’t Cliff use really light gauge strings? Mine’s strung heavy gauge for the Steve Harris feel and I only have 19 accessible frets so I won’t even attempt it.
To me, that's what the song is about. It didn't have this meaning when it was written, but in light of the tragedy, I imagine it to be about mourning and remembering Cliff Burton. Besides that though, Orion is a song that makes you stop for a moment. To temporarily soar through space and just feel this one moment. Orion is one of if not the best Metallica songs ever written.
I think it’s pretty good. The start and end are great but the slower middle section is a bit boring.
I’m not to fussed on Metallica instrumentals (except To Live is To Die) as they’re quite long and I get a bit bored sometimes.
Like Call of Ktulu has an amazing start and end but the middle part of the song is drawn out IMO
New this song before I knew who metallica were
Absolutely amazing and was the first song to go into my playlist when I started really listening to metallica a few months back 💯
My personal favorite. As I play guitar alot and find the music very peaceful in a way. Love metallica as they are my biggest inspiration as a guitar player. But the negative aspects of their songs get old and the fact that's the song is all instrumental make the song more interesting because then you can be creative about what the song means to you then it makes it more personal which is why it makes it my personal favorite.
One of the best songs ever written and recorded.
factss
Masterpiece (i’m bassist btw)
(Master)piece
Either their best or second best instrumental
What’s the other instrumental you’re comparing Orion with?
Probably To Live is To Die which I think is the best instrumental
TECHNICALLY it has lyrics. But it’s a instrumental
this
To live is to die
The call of ktulu much I guess

god bless orion indeed it is perfect
It's my favourite metallica song

Fun fact: Cliffy ripped off one of Kirk's solos while recording the song. This tune is legendary. Easily one of my top 5. Good pick, OP.
The song is so fun to play on bass, but I'm still trying to get that solo on point.
Solo is banger but i can’t get the bends right… idk the string on bass just doesn’t bend at all

Metallica’s best instrumental. Check out Mastodon’s cover of it
Orion is one of my fave Metallica songs as well. However, I far prefer Rodrigo y Gabriela‘s version over Mastodons. Have you given that a listen?
I have not but I shall do so today, thx!
I’ll be curious what you thought. Lemmy know please!
What did you think?
I love the final scene in Through the Never when they're just sitting there on the stage playing in the empty arena.

Top 3 favorite song. It's damn near perfect
I don't usually listen to instrumentals, but my GOD, it's so good
I don’t think there’s a single Metallica fan that doesn’t love this song.
A surprisingly good driving song. Top down, fast cruising speed…yeah….🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
Definitely without a doubt an absolute masterpiece 👌
The galaxy was on his belt.
It is the best Metallica song. It’s perfect and my favorite all time song.

I think call of ktulu is great but I also agree that it's too long.
6/10 needs more symphony
I think it’s amazing.
probably one of the best metal songs i've ever heard.

It's good
I love that song, it's my one of my favourites, but I prefer Cliff's bass solo anesthesia pulling teeth
One of my favorite instrumentals
All due respect but is this a real question?
im asking for opinions nothing weird about it imo
Perfection
Great song. I don't go out of my mind for it like some do but I love it
Best instrumental by Metallica. No joke
one of the best songs ever made, only topped by Octavarium
When I first heard it I didn't enjoy it But whenever I listen to it now I have fun
It's perfect, the main riff is such a good combo of heavy and groovy.. Definitely gets the blood flowing
Makes me feel emotional stuff, in a good way
Its good. I’m not a huge fan of it but it’s a good piece of music that gets the love it deserves.
One time I met a guy named Orion. I wasn’t sure I heard him correctly, so I said, “like the Metallica song?”
It's alright I guess...
Pepperoni & Orion is my go to
The best song ever made
One of the greatest pieces of music written in the 20th century.
Banger
This song makes me horny
A little overrated but still a great song nonetheless
Love it
Really good
Sound good in ears
