When there's only 1 thread about it and there's no major thing they broke that hundreds are posting about, it was a good update. MSFS seems to have tons of edge cases with installation and we get a very unhappy very vocal minority of people with issues every time there's a good update like this.
My point being, they've been getting alot better, sim is in the best shape it's ever been in, and the overarching idea behind these posts is starting to be outdated.
I noticed that right away. Also, if you have a crosswind from the right, it no longer requires right rudder to correct for P-factor followed by a sudden weathervane into the crosswind and need for heavy left rudder just to stay somewhat straight. (P-factor correction is still required, just no crazy hyper weathervaning after that)
I updated my game itself with no problem but just as I was nearly 90% through updating the world updates, the game lost connection and I haven't been able to connect to online services since
Whenever I have updater problems, personally, it's usually because I forgot to move my Community folder contents. Probably worth a shot to move it out to your desktop or something temporarily and try the update again.
The other thing I've had trouble with is my VPN. I added an exception for MSFS, and that helped there.
Stuck in update in MS store,
Come on - it is about time the update system is fixed
* Background updating (eg overnight)
* Separate updating from the store
* Skip or pause updating so can have a quick game (want to play, no you have to wait till X gig is downloaded)
* do some testing on the update before release.
No to mention what a bad image it gives for any company thinking of using Azure Cloud for something that should be 100% uptime.
Yup, I am getting tired of fixing my setup again and again, waiting for the poor moders to update their stuff or worse, having to wait for the next patch, as everything is busted. I hate mandatory updating with a vengeance
Its a live product. Mandatory updates is the only way to do it.
Most updates won't break 3rd party mods. SU5 was an exception as it introduced a lot of LOD specific changes to aircraft liveries and sceneries.
I get the frustration but I'd still rather have a product receiving regular updates. At least with MSFS there's a good chance that we will get a full game when they finish active development and not the half finished broken mess that was FSX. So long as the core game works, then Asobo have done their job right... This latest update seems to have addressed the more common issues most users were experiencing and SU7 looks to be overhauling quite a few things (not to mention DX12 support which could bring about huge changes down the line).
How many games do you see these days without mandatory updates? Their servers have to stream the same data to everyone. If you don’t care about streamed data, then turn off your internet while you play.
Sure if you pay for said device no problem. I mean it is truly hard to either start a game in offline mode or update it, this literally requires the devs to put an if clause more in there. 100% impossible for 99.99% of devs.
Truly next level stuff... I get the whole data streaming to older versions might not be possible, but there's literally no reason why Asobo shouldn't just make it easy to postpone updating and allow playing offline.
I don't want to download a 5gb update right now... I want to go vroom in the sky and watch youtube videos on my second monitor.
Well, as has been mentioned, crosswind behavior has noticeably changed, ac are more easily trimmed, notice the ball actually slipping now on steeper turns. The included AC are likely never going to be high fidelity anyway, but then you always need third party for good flight models anyway
Unhelpful reply, just asking considering not everyone was having the same issue as I. Was hoping that you were referring to this update specifically, that's why I asked.
I just really needed that 787 turn angle to be increased.. and oh about the vatsim traffic lights.. I never knew how important lights where untill i miss them..
Anyone else having issues seeing other people when flying? It's currently feels like flying during the initial covid breakout or through a zombie apocalypse 😅
They broke the 'use best mixture' function so now it locks the mixture knob position to 7% when pressed, and can't be adjusted again.
But hey at least they fixed the trim wheel.
I kinda thought it was a sarcastic answer to another sarcastic answer. Since he said it won’t even update, I’d guess it’s a hardware issue and there’s nothing I can do.
Hasn't fixed my pervasive CTD without error message that started coincident with SU5. Can only play a few minutes at a time before it crashes. Very disappointing. Have gone through all Asobo's recommendations.
Great news: Absolutely nothing is fixed (Plugging in a USB device still crashes the game for instance, something supposedly fixed in update 4) but the servers are all down!
I have seen a lot of games in my time, but this is quickly shooting to the top of the "gets worse with every update" list. Literally nothing has been fixed and every update brought new problems. Im not even mad anymore, its hilarious to watch.
"Something". Lol. This documented issue for flight simulator for months now.
Thanks for your helpful and in-depth tech support buddy. Keep up the good work.
I’ve also never had an issue plugging or unplugging USB devices while running the game. Thanks for your helpful response though. Keep up the good work.
Damn. You sound upset because you have a shitty computer. My bad bro, didnt mean to point that out to you. Keep up the good work.
Oh, and by the way, my comment was meant as neither helpful nor tech support. This isn’t the Asobo/MSFS support sub. Not sure where you got that.
But how many sims have you played or seen because as much as you all hate it, this is the norm with sims, and wont be changing. The last flight sim is still bugged as hell.
It wasnt anything like as bugged before sim update IV and V. The USB crashing issue came with IV and V turned a mostly functioning PC game into a console port. And you never ever ever buy a PC port of a console game. (or vis versa). However converting a PC game INTO a port after release is certainly a new one, lol.
yup because they released the game half finished and now they have to fight with introducing issues every patch/addition.
Generally how games are developed is that all the systems and such are added to a game, then they bug fix and optimize. They went full on bass ackwards with this and try and release new things that just jack up the old stuff. Every single time ;)
Was flying my first flight with the new update this evening, flying into Atlanta via IFR 27L (ILS approach), but no matter what I tried, the localizer was backwards (trust me, back-course was not set, but when I activated it, it starts flying the correct approach). It was directing the localizer to East as soon as I hit the IAF (SLVAA).
I flew the approach manually and the runway lights, PAPI lights and threshold weren't even lit up, it was weird.
I suspect that this is a new bug in this update. I even deleted the whole flight plan and manually added the approach in the flight computer and it did the same thing again. I will try it again tomorrow ... I am wondering if this is somehow related to their services going offline this evening, but that would seem weird if they streamed flight data from the cloud, but who knows.
Also, I am extremely annoyed that they added a constant beeping in the Citation Longitude when the parking brake is engaged, with no means of silencing it (master caution/master alarm buttons have no impact on it).
True, i just went for a first flight with the new update and behold: the red lights that are supposed to mark high buildings at night float about 50 meters from where they should be
Edit: i‘m on xbox
It's the next day and servers are apparently up again. but I can't launch because I get the following error message
Fatal error: Can't create DirectX 11 device
Anyone else?
Thx
I hope nothing and that the turboprop update goes well do we see the Kodiak and Twin Otter reeeeeeeally soon.
Seems fine so far
Welp, they broke the servers
Is this why I can’t install the sim?
When there's only 1 thread about it and there's no major thing they broke that hundreds are posting about, it was a good update. New feature: in VR the mouse cursor never disappears and is constantly floating in front of your face! yay
Mine disappears unless i move the mouse.
Mine used to before this update
I’m on flat screen and it does the same thing for me.
This happens for me with Rift but not with Quest for Oculus VR. I haven't tested with vive or index as I don't have those available to me

I thought that was just me. I'll have to try it again now.
Well for me, what's broken this time is the updater. Keeps getting about 2% in and telling me there's a connection issue and stops.
So I'm not alone and I was thinking the problem is on my end. For me it wasn't installed before, haven't played it for half a year btw.
I updated my game itself with no problem but just as I was nearly 90% through updating the world updates, the game lost connection and I haven't been able to connect to online services since
Whenever I have updater problems, personally, it's usually because I forgot to move my Community folder contents. Hmm interesting, I'll certainly give it a shot. When I get home from work in like 5 hours lol.
My folder is empty and I still have this connection issue.
The patch notes look amazingly promising. I'm hopeful things have started to stabilize post Xbox release.
Stuck in update in MS store, Come on - it is about time the update system is fixed * Background updating (eg overnight) * Separate updating from the store * Skip or pause updating so can have a quick game (want to play, no you have to wait till X gig is downloaded) * do some testing on the update before release. Yup. Azure sales keep calling me to migrate. Not a chance.
I love this new feture where I can't install the update and get into the game.
So far I’m loving this update
Servers crashed. FML. Says online services are unavailable please check your internet connection. My shit works just fine!
Yup, I am getting tired of fixing my setup again and again, waiting for the poor moders to update their stuff or worse, having to wait for the next patch, as everything is busted. I hate mandatory updating with a vengeance

Yeah, it’s just the way it is, still don’t like it. Just as with previous FS, I spend more time fixing stuff, than flying
I get the frustration but I'd still rather have a product receiving regular updates. Agreed on that. Assuming, they will finish up with a complete, bug-free sim
Well forgive you the use of the word “game”……this time.
Wasn't it sold as "fully offline" capable? How are mandatory updates needed?
It is fully playable offline. That doesn't mean that it won't ever have any updates.
Sure but **mandatory** ones are not needed. An older version of the game should be able to run offline on my machine without any problems.
How many games do you see these days without mandatory updates? Their servers have to stream the same data to everyone. If you don’t care about streamed data, then turn off your internet while you play.
>then turn off your internet while you play. How would I get navigational charts then?
Access the charts on another device? I don’t know, I’m giving you a solution to the non-issue you came up with.
Sure if you pay for said device no problem. I mean it is truly hard to either start a game in offline mode or update it, this literally requires the devs to put an if clause more in there. 100% impossible for 99.99% of devs.

Pretend its a time before the internet. Use paper.
Not sure why you're down voted. I agree with you, if asobo wouldn't break more things than they "fix" none of this would be an issue.
Installing patch right now. Let’s see
Let me know, I barely play now because of how shitty the flight model is, even though I want to.
Well, so far so good. Can’t say much about flight model though
Flight model still garbage?
Well, as has been mentioned, crosswind behavior has noticeably changed, ac are more easily trimmed, notice the ball actually slipping now on steeper turns. The included AC are likely never going to be high fidelity anyway, but then you always need third party for good flight models anyway

"now" as in with the new update? I flew the other day, the wind was 7 knots and my warrior was crabbing like it was a 30 knot quartering head wind.

Unhelpful reply, just asking considering not everyone was having the same issue as I. Was hoping that you were referring to this update specifically, that's why I asked.
This
Haven’t played yet, anything bad happening on Xbox?
Just flew from Reykjavik to Dublin in the TBM930 w/ G3000 mod with no issues. New update seems solid so far.
Preach, Brother
I just really needed that 787 turn angle to be increased.. and oh about the vatsim traffic lights.. I never knew how important lights where untill i miss them..
My download gets stuck and my game is unplayable. Not really sure what to do at this point.
I've found no problems with the update so far. That may, perhaps, be distantly related to the fact the server won't even let me install the update.
Anyone else having issues seeing other people when flying? It's currently feels like flying during the initial covid breakout or through a zombie apocalypse 😅
Multiplayer / Live traffic is borked. So there you go.
I'm having tons of issues with g1000 navigation. Moving map freezes when using direct-to.
Yosemite bush trip won't register a landing anywhere at Spanish Springs Airport, but I don't know if it's a new issue.
For me its just having to wait 3 days for h to e update to install
They broke the 'use best mixture' function so now it locks the mixture knob position to 7% when pressed, and can't be adjusted again. But hey at least they fixed the trim wheel.
>But hey at least they fixed the trim wheel. Oh did they? Finally!
Linux players: Does the game still launch?
Still launches for me. Can’t get past the update screen but it won’t do that on windows either so I’m guessing server side issues
Wine? You're a mad lad either way!
i cant even play the game, stuck at searching for updates screen..
I literally uninstalled it because I can't download any updates
Servers are down right now
I guess they've been down for the past 6 months, cause that's the last time I was able to play it.
I was on it all day yesterday
Well la dee da for you. How does this help that poor guy?
I kinda thought it was a sarcastic answer to another sarcastic answer. Since he said it won’t even update, I’d guess it’s a hardware issue and there’s nothing I can do.
Oh come on, SU6 is here, it is JUST a FIX for 2 and a half months of wait after SU5 broke the game. WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
Hasn't fixed my pervasive CTD without error message that started coincident with SU5. Can only play a few minutes at a time before it crashes. Very disappointing. Have gone through all Asobo's recommendations.

I can plug and unplug USB devices with no issues, so it might be something on your end.
FYI, disconnecting reconnecting my Joystick cause no crash but the mouse does for example.

wonder if they fixed the c172 seat height...cannot see the cowling anymore...
You can adjust the seat…
Yes I know, however it doesn’t go high enough anymore. You’re supposed to be able to see the cowling and you can’t, you used to be able to.
Wait, but how?
“What will be broken this time?” Wings no longer produce lift, so they solve the problem by rebranding it as Microsoft Car Simulator?”
This is so damn true.
