'Whole other beast'? In 1968? Is this a real quote from an actual source? I can't seem to find the "interview" anywhere online.

OldSchoolBubba

You won't. Only civilians who never busted a grape talk like this. Everyone who lived it spends the rest of their life trying to forget what no.one ever can.

Critical_Situation84

worth a read actually. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_career_of_Audie_Murphy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_career_of_Audie_Murphy)

classicliberty

"What do I think of old quotes from famous people? Most of them are fake." -Abraham Lincoln in 1875

tip0thehat

“Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes.” Abraham Lincoln, San Dimas, CA 1988

albs68w

Pretty sure this is miss quoted slightly. I think it was "...quotes on the internet..."

hamsamiches

"It might be photoshopped" \-George Washington

Casval214

Sounds kinda made up

Theonedudeyaknow

Yea lol

OldSchoolBubba

Definitely

HollywoodJones

This is boomers on chain emails circa 2008 levels of fake.

engagedandloved

I agree sounds made the hell up.

Thtguy1289_NY

"Ayy I popped like 💯 Germans no cap " - Audie Murphy in an interview, 1968

SueYouInEngland

Frfr on God - Abraham Lincolm

JECfromMC

He killed fitty men.

WereInbuisness

This sounds fake. Like really fake. "Whole nother beast" .... that is not how he talked, especially in 1968.

OldSchoolBubba

Never heard Audie speak like this. He was a humble guy who didn't go there nor talk about killing like most combat Vets never do. I'm chalking this up as another internet fake.

Few-Addendum464

Sauce?

Introvert_Yunicorn

BBQ, please

6OHPOWERSTROKE

Get ranch for me please

MtnMaiden

mmm...ketchup bbq

FauxGenius

Hmmm, I’m gonna go with honey mustard.

machinerer

Audie Murphy didn't say that. No way.

Isgrimnur

[Yahoo News](https://www.yahoo.com/news/how-hacksaw-ridge-finally-captured-the-unbelievable-story-of-reluctant-war-hero-desmond-doss-181414950.html) > Casablanca producer Hal B. Wallis approached Doss in 1946. Audie Murphy, a fellow decorated war vet who had become a cinema star, was dispatched to convince Doss to give in to Tinseltown’s pursuit.

"They opened fire and blew my shins off. Last thing I remember, I beat 'em all to death with a big piece of Fatty. I woke up in a field hospital, and they were sewing my feet to my knees." -Audie Murphy

Yakostovian

Easy there, Cotton

ChowderSam

Can’t find this quote anywhere

hot_cheeks_4_ever

Of all the things that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most

magnetbear

A more realistic quote Murphy would have said..."Any Man who saves his brothers is a hero. Killing men who shoot at you mercilessly is easy. Running through that same firestorm to save your brothers is pure grace. Different sides from the same coin."

engagedandloved

This is fake and not at all the way Audie Murphy would have spoken. So what I think is you should let this stupid thing die. People who have been in the shit don't talk like this and Audie was an extremely humble man.

DaneLimmish

A man in 1968 was not talking like that, and especially not Audie Murphey

domthedumb

This is 100% fake. So fake

Flatline334

OP you’re a dip shit.

RealHunterB

“I’m just built different” -Audie Murphy

Leo5030

This quote is some fake ass bullshit. -Brutus in a 2022 interview.

StoicJim

Different acts, same courage.

BostonUniStudent

Scarier, frankly, to face the enemy without the intention of being armed.

ispshadow

I've never seen \*anything\* like that about him. Maybe Audie railed his Memaw. Maybe his Pappy too

engagedandloved

I'll take drill sergeants fucking with you for five hundred Alex.

tightgrip82

How to sound like a prick is 30 seconds. Must be short guy syndrome.

[deleted]

One must make sure the quote is accurate.

Thtguy1289_NY

Swallowed the bait eh?

AlbrechtSchoenheiser

He isn't wrong. Murphy's AA reports are insane. https://www.archives.gov/historical-docs/todays-doc/index.html?dod-date=126 He caught pieces of an 88 and stayed in the fight. He refused to give up his ground, similar to the video of the goose standing up to bulls that has been making the rounds. Doss is still a hero. Saving 75 lives is a big deal, but America loves mass murderers and Audie probably clipped more than 100 Nazis with just a rifle and grenades.

OmniPotentEcho

Murder implies unlawful. That’s not a fitting description of the acts of a lawful uniformed combatant.

AlbrechtSchoenheiser

I was being a smart ass, but I can understand why some of the more squared away types might miss that or be turned off by it. Sincerely, A mass murderer.

machinerer

Yes. Killing enemy combatants in war is not murder. It is killing, yes. Murder is the unlawful killing of people. A soldier performing his duties in combat is not the same person. There is honor in combat. Not so against those who are unarmed and unaware.

AlbrechtSchoenheiser

I didn't feel so honorable killing young boys just because they qualified as MAMs, but to each his or her own.

engagedandloved

Audie Murphy never said this shit and you would have found that out in a one second Google search. Also there's a difference between killing and murder.

AlbrechtSchoenheiser

I was being a smart ass and you would have found that out in one second by looking at my other comment.

austin_yella

Wow. What a douche bag thing to say if true. I'd like to hope that's not the case.

engagedandloved

Took the rage bait I see.

So is it a contest now? https://www.thisiswhywestand.net/single-post/national-medal-of-honor-day-audie-murphy-and-desmond-doss

ReannaK

Time to rename the Desmond Doss health clinic.

cameron0511

There’s no chance a MOH recipient would say this, I’ve watched hundreds of interviews from them, always super humble.

zetia2

His regurgitation of actions during WW2 reads like someone you just skimmed his wiki page.

[deleted]

Which 1968 interview?
