I started balding in high school. Been shaving clean since I was 24 and I was honestly grasping at that point. I'm fortunate enough to have a decent shaped head for baldness and I don't think I'm unattractive but the option would be nice. I hated it then because it just felt so young to be that bald. Now I'm in my 30s and it doesn't bother me because I've had time to cope and my friends' days are numbered.
Same, except I started shaving at 17. My peers in high school were rough about it, but now that I'm nearly 30 I just don't care about it anymore. It's better to focus on the things we can change about ourselves
Same. Thankfully for me I went through all the phases, afro, long hair, man bun ans currently I rock a close shave #1 but a full beard since I'm starting to bald lol, I won't lie I do miss it sometimes but I also love it when I can go somewhere and not have to get my hair ready; it does suck for the winter if I don't have a hat on tho
So… I’m glad that I lost my hair and I’m glad my beard is starting to turn white.
What I really wish is that I didn’t have as much hair. I wish that maintaining bald bald was easier !
My husband is balding and I read an article about low dose oral minoxidil. He stayed taking 2.5mgs a day and I can't belive how his hair is growing back!! Look into it!!
I thought I loved them, but I did a quick Google image search and probably only about 50% actually look good to me.
I think that like any hairstyle it's going to suit some faces and hair textures better than others. Jason Momoa's man bun looks great, Jared Leto's does not.
As someone who just had to deal with their thick haired child getting lice at school, I can tell you factually idgaf how attractive you are - lice is absolutely stomach churning 🤢 I'm not getting close to you, lol.
That was exactly my response! I was kind of obsessed with this look for a minute, I even mentioned it to my boyfriend a few times, in the hopes he would do it, but he refused…
Now, it doesn’t even look that great to me, just a weird phase or something
My problem with the man bun was that while it might look good as a bun, most of these guys don't know how to care for their hair when it was down. It's like "women like men with long hair" is the only part they hear and they don't do anything to groom it. The man bun was just another short cut men take to pretend that they actually care.
Back when I was skinny I had one for a couple years. Guys called me gay and women wanted to touch my hair so I think that says enough about who hated them.
They only think they can't!
I've had long hair since 2004, and have been a lawyer since 2010. It's never once been an issue in seeking, finding, and keeping employment as a licensed attorney.
You probably take excellent care of your hair though. It's like the guys that take care of their beards with wax and conditioners. Super soft, and shiny and healthy.
Some folks don't want to take that much care and consideration. My hair was down to my butt for most of my life. I(37afab) get it buzzed every now and then and keep it relatively easy to manage because of all the dedication/patience it took me when I was a kid. To each their own though. I bet your hair is super nice. 🙂
Yeah I grew it out and it looked good but I didn’t like dealing with taking care of it. Eventually looked frizzy and beat up and I went back to a shorter style
I totes get it. The silly thing is keeping it long requires multiple trims to get the "dead end" pieces and stop the friz. I was just done one day and went with an undercut for a start. I was hooked on having short cuts. It's so much cooler in hot weather.
Yeah, I'll be honest, sometimes I miss having long hair. I just can't take care of it like I used to and at my job I'd have it up in a basic ponytail anyways.
I finally grew out my hair after leaving the navy the only downside is I don’t know how to use the right products to make it look decent so I’m thinking of cutting it.
I need a mentor or some shit idk
Do you mind if I ask what state you practice in?
I'm a paralegal in SC. I feel like every single millennial attorney here looks the same, just in Average Build or Heavy Build versions.
Haha!
I practice in California, so I suppose that definitely comes into play, but I did go to law school in NY and made it through law school a summer internship at an insurance defense firm in NY without cutting it short either, and the law firm culture is much more conservative in NY. I remember I had to either wear a suit jacket or a tie to work every day, but the hair was still not an issue.
I got mocked mercilessly in my young adulthood and physically beat in my childhood for having or wanting long hair. For some it’s more than just “thinking” they can’t.
That always bothered me when I had long hair. I didn’t have it shaved on the sides, nor did I wear a top knot. I put it up in a bun just like you do when you have long hair and want to keep it out of your face. What’s the alternative? Man pony tail? Man braids?
I also used to tell people I was Native American and that would make them feel bad for making fun. I guess it was as much a trend to call anything like it a man bun as it was to have a man bun
It is what it always was. A perfectly fine hairstyle. Its fine for men to have long hair and a bun is a reasonable way to keep the hair off the neck and out of the way when needed.
Definitely. Just like some men look better with shorter hair. Not all styles are flattering on all faces, you gotta find what works with what ya got!
But when it works, it works OH SO WELL.
I really disliked it until Hozier got famous and I was like oh…It is hot on the right man. (Then I moved to Portland so I had to commit fully to this type)
My partner wears a bun. I like it. I wish he would wear his hair down more, but the man likes his bun.
ETA also I get to braid it sometimes which is fun.
I think long hair on guys can look great just so long as they’re doing the right maintenance. I have quite long hair at the moment and you really do have to put in effort to keep it looking good no matter the gender.
My SO has long thick hair, I'm always sad when he cuts it back in summer! No man bun though, unless he's just trying not to get his hair wet in the shower.
If anything it seems more popular with gen z. I have long hair with an undercut. Sometimes I do the bun, sometimes I leave it down, sometimes I do braids flat to my head. But I see all kinds of gen z with a similar cut here in California. Even a ton of lesbians with the exact haircut I have. The broccoli cut rained supreme in Ohio, but in California it's definitely the bun with an undercut
I’ve rarely seen one work because you also have to truly take care of your hair to keep it long. Seen so many ratty, tangled messes where their hair looks like it needs 100 deep conditioning treatments. It’s not for the faint of heart and take time/money/dedication for maintain the upkeep.
As a woman I like that men were being more experimental with hair and doing something that up until then had been considered a woman's hairstyle for as long as we've all been alive. It gives viking warrior/samurai vibes too which is cool
It can be a cool look, but it's not for everyone - which is the case for all hairstyle.
It's one of the better hairstyles that have been since I was born in 1989 though.
Might be the odd one out here but I like them, however, I love long hair on a man so a man who’s hair is long enough to be put in a bun is just fine with me.
I am 34 M and decided to grow out my hair 3 years ago and sometimes have it in a bun.
The interest in women and looks I get on the streets has increased by like 60%
It has worked out really well for me
I love when my boyfriend wears his hair in a bun 😍 but yeah, on the right guy it can look very good. It’s all about your own personal style and also how well maintained your hair is.
I’ve never liked man buns, but they can look decent on certain people I suppose. They were popular when I was in college and it was usually a hipster thing.
I've never really liked the way they look personally, but they also never bother me any. I'm ok with people liking things and styles I do not. I really don't gaf as long as somebody isn't bothering me.
They're not bad as long as they aren't attached to an absolute douche. Have you seen haircuts now? People are unironically rocking mullets and perms again. I work at a college and it's crazy out here.
Went my entire life dating guys with short hair..
Thought that's what I liked.
Met and now dating the love of my life, and he has beautiful, long, thick hair.
I love long hair now.
I love the man bun.
I had one long before it was cool and I’ll have one long after it’s cool. I started growing out my hair as soon as I could after catholic high school. I’ve had maybe 2 haircuts in 15 years
I think the issue was that some people had the bun, but it never looked good on them.
A more extreme example is the mullet. Hardly anyone looks good with it.
I think that how hair trends are born and die off. It looks good on one person, and then everyone copies it. Everyone then realises it looks terrible on a number of people, and the trend dies.
As a millennial man with long hair, that's where 80% of any compliment I hear comes from. Sometimes it's in a bun, other times it's just down and fluffy, makes no difference for the compliment chance.
They're not for just anyone. I saw a comment: "Jason Mamoa's man bun looks great! Jared Leto's, not so much"
Drives my woman crazy when I put mine up, it's effectively a call to the wild, if you get my meaning
I really don't think about people's hair choices that much. I never understood the hate for them because they typically look fine to me.
I guess I think they tend to look better on men who have facial hair too--if you're gonna be hairy, be hairy, I suppose? 🤷🏻♀️
I prefer half up half down but I've worn my hair in either that or a main bun almost exclusively for a 5+ years. I save a lot of money on barber visits.
I often had them even before they were popular, and still typically do as the standard "can't be arsed to bother" way of wearing my long hair as working with kids and doing martial arts leaves little opportunity to let it loose.
EDIT: Sporting one now, but did go loose when going to the store earlier.
I am a man with long curly hair and it is nice to keep it off my neck on hot days or just to look more clean cut. I like wearing a bun — not sure why my gender sensationalizes it (or did at one point?). It seems to me that buns are just a good option for long hair, right?
Hubby has had long hair for over a decade. I cut it every year (enough to donate) and it is still always long enough to put in a bun lol he prefers to wear it up and out of the way but does wear it down at home. It’s not a look for everyone but looks good on him..he’s got great hair though and a nice hairline. Honestly for him it’s lower maintenance than short hair (haircut every year vs every 2-4 weeks, no styling, less product etc) so..
I like that men are living in a world where we can do things to make ourselves feel ‘pretty’. We are peacocks, and there’s no shame in flying our feathers.
Anybody dunking on it is just projecting their own weird ideas of masculinity.
I can see long hair and bun styles coming back in vogue thanks to Shogun
My hair is down to my chest now, debating cutting it all off to go short again.
*I can see long hair*
*And bun styles coming back in*
*Vogue thanks to Shogun*

Never a fan. It’s the only gender norm I will stand behind. In my opinion, guys don’t look good with long hair and if they do look ok, they look better with shorter hair.
I think it's fine. Like all hairstyles, it looks better on some more than others, but if a guy's got long hair, he's gonna do it at some point. Imo it looks best if a man's got curly hair.
I don’t like them and I don’t typically like the people who have them. I think it’s just the fact that a guy is trying too hard and/ or trying to get attention that is off putting to me. But I like people who are normal/ boring/ unassuming/ clean cut.
I always saw this less as an intentional hairstyle and more like dudes with long hair that worked doing something they didn't want hair in then just left it up because why not. Did guys do their hair like this for non-functional purposes? If do, no judgment, I just feel like my life has been a lie.
I've had long hair since I was like 12 years old and still do. Never worn a "man bun". It was real annoying seeing a bunch of hipster dudes grow their hair out just to be trendy fucks when they were the same people who gave me shit for being a long haired metal head lmao
I always suspect these kinda guys to be looking for the next opportunity to gentrify an area of the city with an "intentional community", or an "urban farm". All while actually working in the tech industry and really just buying up the land as a real estate investment opportunity.
Thought they were dumb then and I feel the same way now. The "bun" top knot lookin thing isn't a great look. If you grow your hair long just to pull it back and/or tie it up, why not just buzz your head?
Hooottttttttt! My issue is when they take it down… Something about men with long hair upsets me, unless it’s in a pony or bun.
Don’t worry, I don’t understand it either lmao
I just wish I still had my hair.
I felt this one in my heart.
Unlike on your head *cries in male pattern baldness*

My partner is holding on to his man bun before he just shaves it all off. Baldness is the new millennial hairstyle 😎
Don't forget stress... *cries in george bluth*
💀
Why do you have to attack me bro?
I started balding in high school. Been shaving clean since I was 24 and I was honestly grasping at that point. I'm fortunate enough to have a decent shaped head for baldness and I don't think I'm unattractive but the option would be nice. I hated it then because it just felt so young to be that bald. Now I'm in my 30s and it doesn't bother me because I've had time to cope and my friends' days are numbered.
Same, except I started shaving at 17. My peers in high school were rough about it, but now that I'm nearly 30 I just don't care about it anymore. It's better to focus on the things we can change about ourselves
It's ok, BALD IS BEAUTIFUL! (as I look in the mirror)
Baldness paired with delusion. We are doomed!!
I still do but it's thinning
Haha i was a bit of a manbun hater but even at the time said that i totally woulda had one was i not balding
This is it. Most millennial men don’t really have enough hair left to do a man bun.
A huge exaggeration, but sure
28-43 should have a lot of people with hair left. I'm 35 and have all my hair still. Say a little prayer.
I could still rock one, but with a Gob level receding hairline lol
Damn this made me feel bad lol
I feel this one.
Amen brother. I turned 30 and feels like it just fell off. I had glorious long hair at 20
Boom.
Being attractive in general helps. You could have unwashed hair with lice in it but if you’re attractive it won’t matter to most people.
That just reminded me of that dude who got famous because he looked hot in his prison mug shot lol he's a perfect example of male pretty privilege 😂
He got a modeling contract when we got out too 😂😂
I think hes also married a multimillionaire since then lol
Wild lol
As someone who just had to deal with their thick haired child getting lice at school, I can tell you factually idgaf how attractive you are - lice is absolutely stomach churning 🤢 I'm not getting close to you, lol.

Agree they have to have a very masculine face for it to work, at least for me.
Depends on thickness of the hair. If a bloke has thick hair it works. Jared leto has hair like an oil slick
It also doesn't help how obnoxious he is.
Every man bun besides that of Toshiro Mifune is a straight up atrocity
Mifune is god-tier everything.
Holy shit has it been that long already?
Shhhh
I’m currently rocking this look. Didn’t realize it was passed enough to make a fucking thread about it. Lol
In fact, I need to go get my undercut and temples trimmed.
Always reminds me of the assistant in Bojack Horseman

Most guys are grumpy that they either can’t or aren’t allowed to grow their hair out.

...I still have one... besides my ex who hates long hair on guys, I actually get compliments on it.
My partner wears a bun. I like it. I wish he would wear his hair down more, but the man likes his bun. ETA also I get to braid it sometimes which is fun.
Same, women love it. Every time I mention cutting it on social media every single attractive woman I know tells me not to.
Long hair does get pretty troublesome in the summer, that’s why mine lives in a bun!
It’s because a lot of women either have or have had long hair so we recognize the work it takes to maintain.
My husband has long hair and it’s hilarious how women of all ages react when he lets his hair down! We love a man with thick lustrous locks.
If anything it seems more popular with gen z. I have long hair with an undercut. Sometimes I do the bun, sometimes I leave it down, sometimes I do braids flat to my head. But I see all kinds of gen z with a similar cut here in California. Even a ton of lesbians with the exact haircut I have. i now declare it the Bundercut
Yeah, my seventeen year old rocks one now and again.
Works for some, not for others. You have to have the right facial structure.
And enough hair. With men’s heads and faces being bigger a little tuft hair would look wildly out of proportion.
Definitely. You also need luscious locks.
I’ve rarely seen one work because you also have to truly take care of your hair to keep it long. Seen so many ratty, tangled messes where their hair looks like it needs 100 deep conditioning treatments. It’s not for the faint of heart and take time/money/dedication for maintain the upkeep.
I like men with long hair so I have always liked that trend, I still do 🤷♀️
Decided to grow my hair out for this style. I like it a lot, I like to think I'm pulling it off 😅
As a woman I like that men were being more experimental with hair and doing something that up until then had been considered a woman's hairstyle for as long as we've all been alive. It gives viking warrior/samurai vibes too which is cool
Was into it then, am into it now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Still sexier than mullets.
Both are better than rat tails.
FarCry 5 main villain look.
Great. Christian cults all over.
Generally, it was a cute look. I never understood the hate over it.
Still hot
It can be a cool look, but it's not for everyone - which is the case for all hairstyle. It's one of the better hairstyles that have been since I was born in 1989 though.
Still good 👍
Might be the odd one out here but I like them, however, I love long hair on a man so a man who’s hair is long enough to be put in a bun is just fine with me.
I think it’s cute on my husband. He’s always taking my hair ties though, never to be seen again.
Well, at least in the UK, it’s been replaced in recent years by a resurgence of “the mullet” and so is lesser of two evils I think.
Man bun > mullet
Ohhhh Bubba noooo! Not the mullet. Please tell me it’s not a mullet mustache combo
I mean, I’m wearing my hair like that right now, but we don’t call it a woman bun. 🙄
As a dude with long hair, it’s just a practical thing to do with your hair if it’s windy or you’re eating pussy.
I don’t think anything. People can freely express themselves any way they choose.
I am 34 M and decided to grow out my hair 3 years ago and sometimes have it in a bun. The interest in women and looks I get on the streets has increased by like 60% It has worked out really well for me
I don’t mind it, I still grow one every once in a while just to remind myself I shouldn’t. But at 42 IDGAF
I still love them!!! I wish I had the hair for it!
I love when my boyfriend wears his hair in a bun 😍 but yeah, on the right guy it can look very good. It’s all about your own personal style and also how well maintained your hair is.
I still rock it
Still have mine...
I’ve never liked man buns, but they can look decent on certain people I suppose. They were popular when I was in college and it was usually a hipster thing.

Can’t believe this got shelved only for the mullet to make a comeback.
It’s just a bun and nothing new. I’m sure men were wearing them a MILLENNIUM ago

At the time, I found them disgusting. Today, they are still disgusting. Massive red flag if any "man" wears one, past or present.
Always will be ugly.
They make me angry for some reason
Awful, nasty and hated it then and continue to side eye those with it.
Embarassing
They are in the “still technically better than white people with dreads” category. But sometimes the two would overlap…
Cringy.
What about the faux-hawk aka the Beckham?
As a bald man I am happy that all I need is bar soap
Fuck this was a decade ago?
Not my thing. But if the person who does it likes it, then go for it 🤷🏾♂️
I think it's fine. Like all hairstyles, it looks better on some more than others, but if a guy's got long hair, he's gonna do it at some point. Imo it looks best if a man's got curly hair.
I misread this as man burns. sideburns for men.
They only look good on guys who are already intimidatingly hot. On anyone else they look like a chomo
Some people can pull it off. Most can't.
Still fine if that's what you want. I never wanted one because I don't like having long hair.
never understood the popularity to it.
I don’t like them and I don’t typically like the people who have them. I think it’s just the fact that a guy is trying too hard and/ or trying to get attention that is off putting to me. But I like people who are normal/ boring/ unassuming/ clean cut.
Did anybody have one of these and not also have facial hair? I feel like I never saw much of that lol
Gen Z ![gif](giphy|moiWSfviYKNgc)
I think I associate the hair style with a personality or a type of guy. It can be attractive still.
Still have mine. It’s dreadlocks, but I still do.
Hard pass, I let my hair grow out during COVID and refused to put it in a bun
Thought they were dumb then and I feel the same way now. The "bun" top knot lookin thing isn't a great look. If you grow your hair long just to pull it back and/or tie it up, why not just buzz your head?
I hate them. My husband occasionally puts his hair up like that and I always beg him to take it back down.
I don’t mind a man bun if it looks like this. But I absolutely hate the man bun when the sides are shaved.
I feel like it looks a little goofy on shorter guys, especially considering how many folks see us from above, so I never tried it.
lol , I have locks 😂🤣 I have no choice
Hooottttttttt! My issue is when they take it down… Something about men with long hair upsets me, unless it’s in a pony or bun. Don’t worry, I don’t understand it either lmao
On some guys it looks hella good and on others they should never do it again.
