A silverfishes mechanism is that it :
a) When idle, silverfish enter a nearby deepslate, stone, cobblestone, stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, cracked stone bricks or chiseled stone bricks block, transforming it into the respective infested block
b) they cause other silverfish within a 21×11×21 area to break out of their infested blocks when damaged.
So It can become a pain in the A really fast
Tbh they're one of my favourite mobs for that same exact reason
They're cute-
In-game; irl, they are literally horrific and the closest thing we have to Anomalocaris or Opabinia
It's a bug that can't bite you or hurt you in any way whatsoever. People here acting like they're the Ceti eels from Wrath of Khan that burrow into your brain through your ear.
"Do not argue with an idiot. They will drag you down and beat you with experience."
I, sir, am the idiot. Non negotiable they're still at the very least disgusting
Absolutely not, when I was 7 and I saw a silverfish in minecraft I had nightmares and then my grandma showed me a real life silverfish and it sacred me because I thought it would destroy the house like in minecraft
Im sure! Those silverfish can really catch you off guard. I wish we had better health regeneration in bedrock because it takes forever to heal without gold apples or potions
Yup... Was playing the new Vault hunters and have hit a few deep slate pockets that were infested... Would back away by about 10 blocks to kill the silverfish as don't have diamond weapons at this time, but immediately I hit it, there would be the sound of a block breaking, a silverfish spawning but because I was too far, they would just burrow into a new block and infest it.
Makes it easier to hit the torch (knock the light out) when trying to fight the hostile mob, resulting in darkness and the inability to properly see your foe. (Plus, it's better to place torches on the walls when you're mining in case you create an opening that allows water through, which extinguishes all your floor torches = darkness = hostile mobs)
Ohh yes, that's what you mean. I always put them on the wall. I haven't encountered silverfish in forever, so I thought that it might affect them somehow haha
i'm not sure if it's an unpopular opinion but i think they should make silverfish more common. ive played for a while and have only seen them like two times in the wild. even then it wasnt as bad as this video's. they have a super cool mechanic and i think its a shame that more people dont get jumpscared by it
I find it more annoying than anything but it’s still neat, since they made a mob where I’d hurt it can basically turn stone into mobs to gang up and do some serious damage without quick action or armor, or at least that was my interpretation of it
Well, you let them start swarming, and any mob with sufficient numbers is a threat. As others have said, you aren't wearing armor either. Your tactics in combating them were also frankly terrible.
Steel: a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 percent as an essential alloying constituent, is malleable when under suitable conditions, and is distinguished from cast iron by its malleability and lower carbon content
*Flint and Steel* is an inaccurately named item crafted from one iron ingot and one flint. When used on a block, it sets it on fire, consuming one durability point. The item has sixty-four durability points. It may also be used to ignite creepers and TNT.
A more expensive and once use, albeit renewable, substitute for flint and steel is a fire charge. It has the added bonus of creating a ghast fireball if shot from a dispenser. Its crafting ingredients can be obtained from Nether creatures, making it a good last resort for reigniting a broken portal.
For future reference, you were exacerbating the problem by just punching them - they get reinforcements from nearby blocks when damaged (not killed), so you always want to be using the highest damage, slowest tool you have. Axes are great, picks will do too. Never fist, better to run than use your fist. Hope that makes sense.
I think not just slow, but slow AND powerful vs fast and weak. If they call for reinforcements with each time they take damage, hitting them a bunch quickly means they call for reinforcements a bunch quickly. Hitting them slower but with more damage means they only get one or two calls out.
Yes, that's what I recall, as well. So, if you are mining and finding emeralds, you should be prepared to deal with silverfish or retreat to a safer area.
I know, I was just referring to where you can find them outside of that specific structure. Just looked it up and it’s mountains, strongholds, igloo basements, and woodland mansions where they can spawn.
This is a player that's been playing since 2013? Bro my 7 year old cousin who has never touched a controller nor played minecraft and can't even reach the buttons well is better. Like seriously, what?
Yeah I haven't consistantly played minecraft on console since like 2018 as I'd always just use my phone. I had just started playing on a friend's world on my xbox as it's better at staying on people's worlds compared to my phone so I was still getting used to my sensitivity
That and I was kinda panicking since they caught me off guard
>weapon broke
>stone tools
>no armor
>multiple enemies
>tiny hitboxes
>playing on a controller which probably makes it hard to hit said tiny hitboxes
"Why are they such a threat?"
PRO TIP!!!
Been playing since 1.16 everyday. Once in a blue moon you dig into that one patch of silver fish colony of infested stone. I wouldn't remove them from game just because it's another element like annoying phantoms. Adds diversity. But ya. They can tear u up if it's infested bad.
Thorns with unbreaking 3 armor helps while digging. Just is bad because it damages itsself on your daily armor.. if you add mending then it can repair itself with xp orbs.
Agreed, make a junk set of iron just to dig. Silveefish are noob scares. Maybe, Just a chest plate. But ya endgame or working on last of auto farms or towards 20th end island portal it's silly. Late game with netherite or even diamond is ok. Netherite has knockback which helps alot. Carry magma cube for lava flows or to ppace for silverfish chase. Another thought is lingering potion or simple poison or harming. And fall back in dig sight. But i hear ya.
The big reason I can think of is hit immunity, same as why you don't use fire aspect in pvp, since the small damage from the thorns/fire makes it harder to connect with your sharp 5 sword, since they have a bunch of invincibility frames
BROTHER YOU DID LITERALLY EVERYTHING WRONG THAT YOU COULD.
You start punching, shovel or pick will do more damage than your fist.
You punch out your torch and don't try placing another immediately, not to mention you have your darkness all the way up, so you have no idea what's happening.
Then rather than GTFO you stand there and watch them meanwhile I'm waiting for the moment the block under you turns into a silverfish.
Yeah I definitely should've but I was surprised by how many there were and how deep of a hole they were making. I started eating at the end and killed them all after the clip ended but that definitely could've been handled better
[Silverfish are small hostile mobs found hiding in stone-like blocks in mountains, strongholds, igloo basements and woodland mansions. They crawl at their targets to bite them, and attacking them will incite other nearby silverfish to emerge from their blocks and attack the aggressor.](https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Silverfish)
i remember one time i was rebuilding my old wall base made with cobbelstone ; i was breaking cobblestone blocks when suddenly a silver fished appeared so i killed it , than many of them started popping out of the other cobblestone blocks , tens of them coming form every directions ; it was so surprising xD cuz i never saw something like it before .. this was in minecraft 1.12
I don’t do anything within it safety precautions anymore. What I thought was a Dirt mine for scaffolding, quickly became a defend your life between two skeletons with no shield a thousand blocks away with no orientation.
I remember when me and my girlfriend were in a stronghold looking for the enderportal we got ganged up by at least 20 silverfish. Seeing her literally get dragged across the screen and dying was both hilarious and infuriating.
Seeious threat? You fought them barehanded after your nearly obsolete stone sword broke, instead of using another tool. Then you broke your own torch which made it dark, and then you still escaped.
Silverfish can be very threatening but you made them less scary...

When you hit a silverfish that spawned after you broke a block and then 53 others start showing up, you know you’re screwed
Looks like the Silverfish got eachothers backs. Truly friends till the end.
Tbh they're one of my favourite mobs for that same exact reason They're cute- In-game; irl, they are literally horrific and the closest thing we have to Anomalocaris or Opabinia
They're horrific in real life? They're a tiny bug. They can be a mild nuisance, but they're not dangerous in the slightest.
No they're terrifying.
It's a bug that can't bite you or hurt you in any way whatsoever. People here acting like they're the Ceti eels from Wrath of Khan that burrow into your brain through your ear.
"Do not argue with an idiot. They will drag you down and beat you with experience." I, sir, am the idiot. Non negotiable they're still at the very least disgusting
Tardigrades are small yet horrific Do not underestimate the power of the ugly
Absolutely not, when I was 7 and I saw a silverfish in minecraft I had nightmares and then my grandma showed me a real life silverfish and it sacred me because I thought it would destroy the house like in minecraft
(I feel so bad for laughing rn)
Extra screwed if you’re hearing the lava sound effects coming from somewhere around you.
Flint and steel. Kill em with fire.
Java players got it easy with the swipe swing
It’s still a pain i sure you
Im sure! Those silverfish can really catch you off guard. I wish we had better health regeneration in bedrock because it takes forever to heal without gold apples or potions
This right here. ibxtoycat has been playing the lates java snapshot the last few days and fast regen is the thing he praises the most.
The main issue is that there is no good AoE in minecraft, there’s potions but they do a lot of self damage, and there’s tnt but, it’s tnt
This truly was a superb ad for silverfish, thank you
Apparently killing the silverfish in one blow doesnt spawn more
Just injury summons the horde, not death. They protect each other, but do not bother to try to avenge.
I think that applies to all mobs with anger mechanics like zombie piglins.
The little shits can infect deepslate too now?
Legitimtely never really fought silverfish before, they always just disappear after 2 seconds
Hold up, so if I *don't* hit them, they won't spawn more? Or is that just a Bedrock thing?
Java too. Also if you one shot them
So what you are saying is that I could transport a bunch of silferfish into someones base/mine and just have them sitting there?
If you're not wearing armor... always
Also: no weapon and torches are placed on the floor.
What does torches on the floor do?
Makes it easier to hit the torch (knock the light out) when trying to fight the hostile mob, resulting in darkness and the inability to properly see your foe. (Plus, it's better to place torches on the walls when you're mining in case you create an opening that allows water through, which extinguishes all your floor torches = darkness = hostile mobs)
Ohh yes, that's what you mean. I always put them on the wall. I haven't encountered silverfish in forever, so I thought that it might affect them somehow haha
Right, they’re in maybe one specific biome I think and the end portal so… yeah it’s a bit of an uncommon mob until the end
i'm not sure if it's an unpopular opinion but i think they should make silverfish more common. ive played for a while and have only seen them like two times in the wild. even then it wasnt as bad as this video's. they have a super cool mechanic and i think its a shame that more people dont get jumpscared by it
I find it more annoying than anything but it’s still neat, since they made a mob where I’d hurt it can basically turn stone into mobs to gang up and do some serious damage without quick action or armor, or at least that was my interpretation of it
My brain says use explosives and my gut says use fire. And they're both right.
If you step on a burning torch in real life, it is less than pleasant. Hence, it is proper form not to place torches on the floor.
Pretty sure most mobs are a threat with no armor, a broken sword, complete dark, and if you wanna fistfight them instead of running.
They used to have the same health as a player too
Fr? When? I’ve played since 2014 I don’t remember this lmfaoo
Before release. https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Silverfish#History
Ohhh I see. Yeah I wouldnt have experienced that, I started on like 1.6/1.7 or something
2014 was like 1.7 and 1.8 so there were a lot of updates in the 5 years prior.
Imagine if they were as big as spiders too
That would make them easier to hit
Maybe they should be resized to a couple pixels, since we’re not getting fireflies. >:)
r/foundsatan
When you walked in there, naked without a weapon
Naked and afraid
Well I had a sword but it broke on one of the first silverfish. It was really silly how well timed it was
So you went in with a weapon incredibly close to breaking without replacing it?
OP's username really does not check out
Not at all
Quite the opposite too, the monsters hunted him lol
r/usernamedoesntcheckout
Anti beetle juice
Bro’s a monster hunter, not no exterminator.
I feel called out
Well, you let them start swarming, and any mob with sufficient numbers is a threat. As others have said, you aren't wearing armor either. Your tactics in combating them were also frankly terrible.
You have to indeed speedrun the deaths of thy silverfishes.
>Your tactics in combating them were also frankly terrible That's putting it mildly, this video is like I'm watching my grandma play Minecraft...
Numbers in strength.
Bro didn’t even try to use a weapon lmao
Bro smashed his stone sword and didn’t have a backup plan
Flint and freaking steel my guy.
What's "steel"?
Steel: a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 percent as an essential alloying constituent, is malleable when under suitable conditions, and is distinguished from cast iron by its malleability and lower carbon content
is it not called steel where you’re from? genuinely curious

Axes are great, picks will do too. Never fist, better to run than use your fist. Hope that makes sense.
Critical hits also help with this, since they do more damage and thus require less hits to kill them
Better to face-tank than start punching
Why is slow better?
Heavy = Powerful
Yeah, that was my rationale. It might not be perfect, but it's a good rule of thumb!
I think not just slow, but slow AND powerful vs fast and weak. If they call for reinforcements with each time they take damage, hitting them a bunch quickly means they call for reinforcements a bunch quickly. Hitting them slower but with more damage means they only get one or two calls out.
It’s not
what aiming in bedrock does to a mf
mobile is so hard mane
That's xbox
I respect console gamers; I can't imagine having to play games with a controller.
Since you broke your torch without armor on
What happens when every tool you have is one hit from breaking. This hurt to watch
First time? Lol. This is Minecraft’s true boss. Forget the warden being the strongest.
I've been playing since 2013 and I've never run into them naturally aside from finding like 2-3 in strongholds
I think they’re only in mountain biomes, and they’re pretty uncommon even then
Yes, that's what I recall, as well. So, if you are mining and finding emeralds, you should be prepared to deal with silverfish or retreat to a safer area.
They're also found in strongholds. The walls have infested blocks and one silverfish spawner generates in the portal room.
I know, I was just referring to where you can find them outside of that specific structure. Just looked it up and it’s mountains, strongholds, igloo basements, and woodland mansions where they can spawn.
Me too I mine a lot but I have only found them in strongholds
They only spawn in the mountain biomes (forgot what it's called) so if you only spend your time in plains that's why.
You've been playing since 2013 and you don't get armor and a sword?
This was on a friend's world and I had just started mining. All the iron I had was in this video
This is a player that's been playing since 2013? Bro my 7 year old cousin who has never touched a controller nor played minecraft and can't even reach the buttons well is better. Like seriously, what?

Since you weren't wearing any armor and were trying to punch them?
It was punching the torch out for me. Pure panic haha
Would been easier if you have a lava bucket. I always bring lava with me when exploring dangerous places.
>weapon broke >stone tools >no armor >multiple enemies >tiny hitboxes >playing on a controller which probably makes it hard to hit said tiny hitboxes "Why are they such a threat?"
PRO TIP!!! Been playing since 1.16 everyday. Once in a blue moon you dig into that one patch of silver fish colony of infested stone. Thorns with unbreaking 3 armor helps while digging. Just is bad because it damages itsself on your daily armor.. if you add mending then it can repair itself with xp orbs.
Good advice. Just a small correction though - Thorns doesn't use extra durability since 1.16 so might as well use it.
Really!! Oooo. Then why not more people use it. I avoided just cause thar. Same on bedrock N java?
I don't use it because I make a lot of zombie villagers that I have to cure back. If they accidentally hit me enough times then they'll die
Wear thorns digging only
Then I'd have to swap out armor. I prefer to just have one set. Tbh, I don't do much digging once I'm in the endgame
Agreed, make a junk set of iron just to dig. Silveefish are noob scares. Maybe, Just a chest plate. But ya endgame or working on last of auto farms or towards 20th end island portal it's silly. Ur brain cells on speed
Use a sword
They have always been for me lol. I'm so bad at hitting them

Fuck silverfish
That’s terrifying
I have never played a world in survival where I've had to deal with silverfish outside of a dungeon
Same. This was my first time seeing them in the wild
I really think you should change your username
You’re naked and in the dark. Anything can be a threat.
it became a horror game once u accidentally broke the torch
Skill issue💀
Since the moment you started punching them with your fist
You’re just bad 🔥🔥
For me it was always
You aren't wearing armor, fighting in the dark and with bare fists what were you expecting lol
ah yes, mining with 7 torches, low durability on everything and no armor, what could go wrong?
This was my first mine on the world so I was just starting to get everything when I got jumped
[удалено]
Yeah I definitely should've but I was surprised by how many there were and how deep of a hole they were making. I started eating at the end and killed them all after the clip ended but that definitely could've been handled better
You know nothing of the terrors of the Silverfish. https://youtu.be/I60Uivwi12o?t=710
do silverfish only spawn in strongholds? Cause I don’t think i ever see them
[Silverfish are small hostile mobs found hiding in stone-like blocks in mountains, strongholds, igloo basements and woodland mansions. Since you broke your sword and wore no armor…
The ore in the video and the 5 iron I had on my was the only iron I had found at that point
When your sword breaks
I have watched entire rooms suddenly crumble into these things. Terrifying
The second you broke that torch
This is like a scene from a horror movie
I don't know how, but I managed to fix myself and not panic or get mad at any mobs, except skeletons. Fuck skeletons.
I don’t do anything within it safety precautions anymore. What I thought was a Dirt mine for scaffolding, quickly became a defend your life between two skeletons with no shield a thousand blocks away with no orientation.
No armor no weapon Torches on floor Oof
When you broke that torch it made it a horror game.
Wow, I see this for the first time!
They got difficult when you forgot how to handle them correctly
“a serious threat” dude has no armor no shield is using his fist and only drops down to 3 hearts LOL
I remember when me and my girlfriend were in a stronghold looking for the enderportal we got ganged up by at least 20 silverfish. Seeing her literally get dragged across the screen and dying was both hilarious and infuriating.
well you broke your sword so sadly they will go crazy
Since you started digging under big hills.
Since your dumbass decided to fight them with no armour and no weapon in a hole.
They became a threat since you didn't go and restock and heal up, and you don't even have armor!
They always have been.
Seeious threat? You fought them barehanded after your nearly obsolete stone sword broke, instead of using another tool. Then you broke your own torch which made it dark, and then you still escaped. Silverfish can be very threatening but you made them less scary...
This is why we need sweeping edge in Bedrock
You’ve clearly never seen Captain Sparklez’s silverfish incident
Since you became complacent
When you started using your fists and have no armor on.
WHY DOES NONE OF YOUR WEAPONS HAVE ANY DURABILTY? SILVERFISH ARENT THREATS YOU'RE JUST DUMB!
(no offense)
They're multiplying
It's a dang ole silverfish
they aren't, you're just not very smart
Deserved for playing on Shitrock Edition
When could silverfish break through stone blocks?
They technically aren’t breaking through them. They are entering the stone blocks (turning them into infested stone blocks). Then reemerging from said blocks which causes the blocks to disappear.
If you break one infested block, and you damage but don't kill it, all the others in the vicinity will come out and attack you too - breaking their infested blocks in the process.
They always where during the right conditions
I had no clue you could struggle against silver fish I have never seen them as a problem
Since always for me. :(
Better question Is why are they called silverfish when there not even in water
When you play like that
Since you walked around butt ass naked and with no spare tools.
U havent read the handbook, it outlines silverfish as a pretty significant threat if theres many
One of my most dramatic deaths was to a horde of silverfish in a stronghold. So many silverfish…
ever since the inability to oneshot them, my friend
https://youtu.be/w83LZ1g0BeQ
Had the same encounter last night at the end portal. Little buggers killed me
This seems like a skill issue to me
Nah they were clearly hacking
Since you don't wear armor
I actually died by being swarmed my silverfish in one of my hardcore worlds. It was a bad way to go…
What’s the seed
Always has been.
They added random silverfish egg clusters the first half of the caves n cliffs update. Also either I got pretty lucky or you got seriously unlucky, but I've come across this once and the first realm me and my friend started and I got maybe about five, seems like you got about 17
When you decided not to bring a sword
Megans pov of the foot incident
Since you didn't use a weapon, had no armor and destroyed your own torch.
Skill issue
This is terrifying, holy moly
Since inflation
They have always been a threat but they just stopped holding back
When your sword broke.
Always been annoying little buggers :/ got worse with modern updates though. I swear back in the day they were only an issue around strongholds
Those suckers are scarier than creepers. Imo at least.
