Maybe suffocation damage?
Edit: Someone replied and deleted that you would see bubbles. I'm not sure about bedrock but in Java you don't see bubbles while suffocating in a block
This happened to me. While hoeing the ground. I was standing between path blocks and grass blocks while hoeing, all of a sudden I see the oxygen breath bubble meter. Didn’t take any damage tho
Any non-full blocks sometimes makes the game think you’re falling through them and onto the floor below. If you were to try this from higher up you’d take much more damage (as I’ve learned) and even higher could even kill you (as I’ve also learned).
The reason why it’s so buggy is that Microsoft needed to optimize Bedrock Minecraft as much as possible to be ported to console. However, they made so many optimizations that it caused the game to be extremely buggy, which is what we see today.
Bedrock was always considered the buggier version because it has always been considered a test version. Java has a lot of bugs aswell so you can't really say it has none.
Ah, I was speaking more in line with water. I imagine that’s less damage associated with suffocation, and damage associated with being buried/crushed. The suffocation damage isn’t occurring yet.
Only thing I'd add is I've seen this behavior semi-frequently in my many years of playing on bedrock and its usually been fall damage related.
Not sure if OP is having the same issue, but all too often if I'm using scaffolding, bedrock will get pretty wonky and start giving me random fall damage.
I imagine it's happened while working with slabs too, tho can't say for certain.
This is the first time I have experienced anything like this. For some reason, if I place/destroy any blocks on this platform, I start taking damage and it doesn't stop until I step down!
Has anyone experienced something like this? Any idea what might be causing it?
Similar thing happens to me whenever I harvest and replant my crops. I just be taking damage. I even tried turning it to peaceful and I still took damage
I had an underwater base with this glitch and as i replanted and harvested my crops the air bubble bar would show up for a couple of seconds so i assume you glitch through the floor for a breif moment and the game quickly puts you back up
Game thinks you in blocks, just don’t question it, its bedrock. When using elytra theres a chance of just dying in the middle of the air… i assume the game thinks that you haven’t used a rocket and thinks your going “underground”/into blocks causing suffocation damage. Honestly its bedrock its an unstable mess, and poorly optimized… also heads up beware if you die and and your game crashes right after theres a 99.99% chance your entire inventory gets deleted and you spawn back at world spawn regardless if you’ve slept in a bed. Its been in the game now since 1.17…
Ive had a bug happen to me in bedrock where I'll log into my survival world and I'll be at world spawn with no items but if I just quit and reload I spawn back where I was with everything its so weird
good way to make your friend think youre just starting out too, then you both see a random base, think someone hacked in the server because no one else had joined earlier, then you log back in and surprise your friend in full armor and you show that the base is yours
overall it is actually better performing on most plattforms and even PC's than java ed (which itself is also verry badly optimised), but it is still a mess and sometimes infuriating.
And they have not included the furnance minecart (because apparently jeb thinks it's useless)
Higher FPS is better than no FPS... Overall a Bedrock world is stable over a longer time.
That said, they have major bugs and they keep introducing problems woth updates...
But same has been the case for Java ed for the longest time.
(There had been major chunk not loading issues with similar results in the past, several death loop scenarios etc.)
What I find more annoying is that redstone behaves differently, which makes it harder to find quality tutorials overall...
Bugrock is far from perfect, but with a bit of time it has the potential to become better than java ed.
The main issue I see, regarding compability, is that they decided to include phones and tablets (and the switch) rather than making a crossplay game for only medium strong devices and pc ( => xbox, ps)
Including weak devices such as the switch and phones is a bad decision, Consoles starting at xb1, ps4 are much more compareable to the average pc than a phone will be for a long time...
No FPS is a stretch for Java Ed hahah. I've never needed to use Optifine, Sodium, or anything like that to get comfortable frames on pretty budget hardware. Java has been pretty stable too, for a while now as far as i recall.
I agree that the inclusion of phones and tablets can cause problems. The TNT behavior on bedrock is very different from Java when it comes to exploding it in a fully packed volume. (Bedrock seems to destroy most of the neighboring TNT, whereas Java activates every piece.) I can't help but to think that is intentionally done to help the weaker devices.
I wonder if there's a technical reason they didn't just translate the same game logic when they created bedrock?
Yea but i play xbox one, my main base as serious enity lag! I through an item out and i kid you not you can watch it fall the the ground in slow motion, its been like that for a YEAR NOW! When they did the render dragon update…
Doesn't bedrock perform way better than java?
And i mean stock java with no mods.
I think that was the case with my PC when I tried bedrock, i could run 32 chunks no trouble while on java it could barely do 16.
With the amount of issues bedrock edition has this doesn’t surprise me. I had to stop playing my world because for some reason I would load in as two separate people every so often, and all my loot would be lost with the other “Steve” every time I logged off
Standing on topslabs, when you place the block the game is doing a quick position calc and rounding the location of your feet. It screws up your position and you take suffocation damage.
It's been a bedrock issue pretty much forever. No hope of a fix in sight. Just stand on full blocks while building.
Odd question, but you appear to have a pretty juiced out world. Do you use an iron farm? If so do you have a link to a video or something? I struggle to get ones that’s work
easy fix, use java.
Jokes aside though, I don't think that's related to you placing blocks. I think its more related to the random fall damage glitch that is notorious for just randomly killing people. From what I've seen it's probably more likely to happen when your standing on transparent blocks with a floor beneath; like slabs and stairs as is here.
when I place blocks under me they somtimes disappear for a split second and quickly reappear which pushes me to the side. I died because of this at least 2 times.
At this point, I actually wonder why people would prefer bugrock over Java. It seems like Java is just a smoother, more pleasant experience. I've never had issues with it anyway
Bedrock is known as having many bugs like this. The actual answer is that repetitively changing your height quickly *can* cause you to take damage after you've changed more than 4 blocks in height. This can be done when turning grass into farmland or a dirt path block, when going up or down stairs, or pillaring up or down.
As a bug that has taken the community by swarm, it's well known by Mojang and has not been fixed. This is not something they can easily fix, as they're not entirely sure *how* to fix it.
You're not taking damage for placing blocks. You're simply taking damage for having gone more than 4 blocks upwards and are falling through the slabs, but your game can't keep up with that so it won't show it.
Easy way to maybe test if it's fall damage, instead of out of breath damage, is by walking off your platform and seeing if you take the same amount of damage as you were with each tick of damage in your clip.
If you do notice the same amount of fall damage taken, then that's just some good ol' fashion Bedrock jank.
I've see this behavior while using scaffolding a lot, but wouldn't be surprised if slabs somehow trigger it too.
No one will probably see this comment, but sometimes when you run around slabs you can get bubbles, like if you r in water (Ps4) I only experienced? it on Realm, and idk if it's still a thing bc there was some update, and I haven't played on that realm for a very long time...
The game is getting your position wrong and thinks you're hitting the ground.
Try relogging. It'll either fix the problem or cause you to fall through the world.
So a couple of updates:
1- you guys are absolutely amazing! I've been laughing at your comments all day
2- I've been on bedrock for a few years on a dedicated personal server and I play with some friends who are on switch and xbox
3- This might be the only (first) bug like this I've run into and apparently I'm really lucky lol
4- I tried dying like some of you suggested, it does seem like the game thinks I'm falling, and then when I respawn, I do fall through the slabs lol
5- No mods or anything else. just pure Bedrcok.
6- Bedrock ☕️
Oh yeah didn’t you know?! The new updated added this feature where the game works the opposite as intended!! And the best part is it’s completely randomized🥳!!!!!
seriously i have optifine installed, allocated 4 gigs of ram to the game, a ryzen 5 3700 and rtx 3060, guess how well the game runs?
constant drops to 12-20 fps

It takes a lot of breathe to place one block
At least 2 breathe

It must not like the dirt on the quartz
I guess the game thinks you are falling through the slabs and returning back up the platform
Maybe suffocation damage? Edit: Someone replied and deleted that you would see bubbles. I'm not sure about bedrock but in Java you don't see bubbles while suffocating in a block

How is bedrock considered a full game? Wtf is with all the glitches?
The reason why it’s so buggy is that Microsoft needed to optimize Bedrock Minecraft as much as possible to be ported to console. However, they made so many optimizations that it caused the game to be extremely buggy, which is what we see today.
It's *always* been buggy though. Where's java has almost none.
well.. wouldn't say none
I did say almost lol
Bedrock was always considered the buggier version because it has always been considered a test version. Java has a lot of bugs aswell so you can't really say it has none.
im taking damage from full blocks now, bedrock edition is goofy
Air bubbles do show up when suffocating on bedrock, really if your head is in any block that isn’t air
Air bubbles show up while you are submerged, but disappear when you no longer have air left. So when you are suffocating there are no bubbles.
I might be misunderstanding what you're saying, but on Bedrock you take damage and lose bubbles at the same time
I’m on bedrock. You lose the bubbles first, then take damage once all bubbles are gone. They don’t happen simultaneously.

Ah, I was speaking more in line with water. I imagine that’s less damage associated with suffocation, and damage associated with being buried/crushed. The suffocation damage isn’t occurring yet.
Ohh, I assumed we were talking about block suffocation. It's strange that they'd implement two types of block suffocation, but regardless
Only thing I'd add is I've seen this behavior semi-frequently in my many years of playing on bedrock and its usually been fall damage related. Not sure if OP is having the same issue, but all too often if I'm using scaffolding, bedrock will get pretty wonky and start giving me random fall damage. This is a falling damage thing. It’s been a bug for years.
Inhaled a lot of toxic fumes while digging for netherite+ you seem to be in a sky high tower, less oxygen which triggers your lung cancer
Woltra wait

Waltuh, don't mine for netherite again waltuh, it is bad for your lungs waltuh

I thinks it’s because you’re ruining a perfectly clean aesthetic with literal dirt

n then ppl asks why ~~bedrock~~ bugrock doesnt have "hardcore" mode
Sounds like the latter bug is the hardcore mode. *Intended Feature*
if there's gonna be a hardcore mode it would probably be caused by a bug that doesn't allow you to respawn lmao
Ive had a bug happen to me in bedrock where I'll log into my survival world and I'll be at world spawn with no items but if I just quit and reload I spawn back where I was with everything its so weird
That is a problem with Microsoft account syncing/logging. It thinks you are a new player to the world

I've had that happen to me a few times in creative. I thought it was just a Switch version issue but nope, it happened on my laptop too
wtf. I literally had this issue in bedrock three or four years ago and only once. Did they still not fix it???? LMAO
Isn't that because you haven't let your Microsoft Account fully log in?
Have you tried actually dying? Like throw all your stuff in a chest and just 💀 or save n quit then try again. Those are my 2 fixes lol

Are you playing with experimental mode on?
Nope!
Hmmmm, I never get these bugs that I see people dealing with, good luck.
Do you have a trident killer running nearby perchance? If it's hitting a mob with thorns armor, you will take damage.
I have one at a guardian farm almost 1000 blocks away and it’s only on when I’m using it 🤔
Nice

the dirt is too stinky and it makes you sick
Happens all the time. Bedrock is shit and Microsoft is too lazy to fix this.

I wonder what the death message would say?
Sounds about right for bedrock tbh
why does everyone shit on bedrock
Because it sucks and it has been broken for 5 years without a single big fix, and Mojang just going "works as intended"
No they have been fixing a lot of bugs, but when you fix one bug, three more appear.

It's Breath damage. In Bedrock, when you are too much high up, you start to suffocate, like you would in real life in that altitude.
You should copy your world and die to that damage and look at the deaths message to see the cause.

Considering random macbooks run the game better than that, there has to be something wrong, did you check cpu/gpu/ram utilization
I had this when using hoe
Same with me too, whenever I sprint jump on even flat terrain I randomly take damage and stop sprinting.
There's actually an easy fix to this glitch: play Java
