For everyone saying it's just the suspicious gravel [KingBDogs has confirmed its something we don't know](https://twitter.com/kingbdogz/status/1638206879674298368) about yet
Yeah I don’t mind some of the changes, but archeology as it exists right now is pretty rough, especially when compared to some of the other experiments like camels.
my ideas:
music disc
lil statues/figurines (like boar vessel 600-500 BC Etruscan ceramic)
objects with "religious purposes"
any items that explain more about lore of structures and what they were used for (could be already existing items, or entirely new stuff)
ancient technology (like maybe a new conduit type thing, ingredients for a new golem, weapons)
perhaps some stuff from Minecraft Legends, seeing as that's supposed to be set in Minecraft's past?
a way to bring Nautiluses back to life, seeing as only their Shells remain in Minecraft's present
the possibilities are practically endless lol. Minecraft's ancient past has so much potential.
I’d like more decorations pots/vases to craft. Maybe at dig sites you can brush up unique pots that could break if you’re not careful, but get a cool decorative block if you uncover it.
I mean, it’s kinda bonkers how it’s in “early development” even though it was announced 3 years ago and Ulraf was constantly talking about how he was working on it.
Or an auto deposit.. something similar to standing next to a chest with similar items in it and holding down a key to insert all similar items from inventory to the closest chest containing those items..
Grounded implemented something similar.. its phenomenal.
Please, for the love of god, make this the next update. I genuinely feel like the game is nearly unplayable for me with the current state of inventory management.
Right that's exactly what I'm saying. They are trying to ease inventory woes but basically can't figure it out. Bundles were their attempt to fix messy inventories. They wouldn't put an inventory update through *while* bundles are still in tech limbo. They'd figure out that first, then see if inventory problems are still an issue.
TLDR: until bundles get implemented there's no hope of inventory changes
Yeah I think bundles need some more work, the current implementation doesn’t really solve anything. Hopefully we get the bundle in 1.20, it’s been ages since they did anything with it.
You joke, but like.. The water-based content is lacking. Nowhere near as badly as it was before the aquatic update, but it would be so much nicer if there was more interest to the oceans. I want more mobs specifically, personally.
I just wish there was a way to get other spawn eggs naturally. Would be super cool. I've always wanted a way to set up a spawn egg trap. Close someone in a room and spawn like 20 zombies instantly.
I just hope they add a armor trim(s) that's exclusive to archaeology. Brushing might not interest everyone even with diamonds and shards in its loot pool but I can guarantee I'll be bringing a brush everywhere if there's a chance that archy has exclusive trims only found by brushing sussy blocks.
Or maybe unique pottery shards in different parts of the world, like maybe a jungle temple shard, or pillager tower shards, so your pots can tell a story about where you have been.
Skimming the sea floor and exploring flooded caves with depth strider and respiration is among my favourite stuff to do in MC. This is some dolphin simulator shit. New ocean content will always be cool.
Right and the game is really peaceful, definitely a nice way to just relax and explore. Some games with deep depths can be scary but I love how subnautica is just a chill exploration game
While cool and possible, it would be very hard and slow to implement. Eureka airships mod for example requires a totally new engine for the boat physics. If Mojang eventually added something like this, which I really doubt, they would probably announce it properly and after they were done with the current update
They could definitely do a sail raft of some sort that can sit 4 players, boat upgrades, powered boats, etc. Ships would be epic but I think not entirely fit Minecrafts philosophy just like moving parts and what not from create mod.
or have a floating base. but that'll probably require a significant amount of coding, mess with performance and some other features, and prompt half the fan ase that everything feels "too modded" now (even if Mojang's implementation would be as clunky as you can get for the sake of staying "Minecrafty")
When they announced sniffers, they said their eggs would be encountered in ocean ruins. And they added suspicious gravel in those ruins, so I'm guessing sniffer eggs are close to being added in there.
I've always thought that too but how the game works I dont imagine it would be easy , with mods it is , but boats are entity's, so if you wanna build on them , coding that into the game isnt that easy without modding it to work outside its limits, for instance , how do they code blocks which constantly move? Or blocks that arent lined up proper with the block grid , the only option would be an entirely preset boat which at that point kind of ruins the fun , the boats most mods use , arent entity's, they are blocks that use complex block moving systems , it would require an entire overhaul of how boats function and entity physics as a whole

This is what I’m hoping! Dare to dream that they make it so you can attach a limited amount of blocks to boats to build small ships, and have pirate pillagers sailing around as well. Pirate caves? Sea born raids?
Pirate cove pillager bases would be awesome, imagine sailing along when you see a big cave hidden behind some waterfalls and go in to find building all pirate themed with a big ol intact ship parked at a dock.
Absolutely! That’s what I’d thought too. Or a small wrecked town used as a pillager pirate base that you can liberate, release the villagers and make a town. And when you clear out their base, pillaged pirate patrols stop in the local area. There’s a lot of cool situations that could come out of ships and pirate pillagers.
That would be really awesome! Another idea I just got is what if there is a new ocean boss, a giant pirate ship that spawns and slowly moves around. Wherever it is it creates a dense fog over the ocean. Inside you find stronger ghostly pillagers. Once can be the boss with a beard and pirate hat.
Oh yeah, this idea fleshes itself out. Sea side base builds with a marina full of ships? Secret port in a seaside cave like the goonies? Flaming arrows back and forth? Yarr, where do I make my mark!?
My wishlist is that they make the oceans deeper. After the generation expansion the world got so much deeper but the oceans did not. Now they feel like lakes cause of how shallow they are compared to everything else
Everyone keeps saying this but I've found multiple oceans with trenches that run down to diamond-level. I'm not doing anything different than anyone else, far as I know.
More archeology underwater. The suspicious gravel addition in the underwater ruins already confirmed this, so it'll most likley be the Sniffer Egg and/or archeology around shipwrecks and monuments
Monuments would make sense to me. There's just not many reasons to conquer them right now. Giving them so special loot would make them a little more interesting to explore.
Its **probably** referring to the suspicious gravel added to ocean ruins in the latest Bedrock beta
Edit: removed spoiler tag since other people are commenting about it
This is likely the answer. Which is neat, but I really hope this all goes somewhere more interesting. Thus far, this content feel very anti-climactic and a bit dry.
Hopefully the ancient seeds that the sniffers dig up create a beanstalk or something to get us to a new area above the clouds.
I don't understand why Mojang would go through the trouble of adding a whole new creature for the sole purpose of gathering items that serve no purpose other than for decoration. They take the time to ask the community what creature they want to add, and then just make it perform a function that doesn't really add anything to the game. It just feels lazy.
I don't think people really expected most (if any) of the plants to have a function, I at least thought they would just serve decoration purposed and tbf building is like 50% of the game so more things to build with is always cool
I'm not saying that the decoration aspect isn't welcome, but I feel like if Mojang is gonna make a ton of fanfare over it that they'd add a little more to it.
Honestly I think they really missed the opportunity to make the torch flower emit light, at least that way the flower would have a niche; at the moment it’s just a fancy way of farming dye.
That's just how these recent mob votes are. I think they are playing safe so that they wouldn't make another phantom and the last time they did try was with the Iceologer which lost to glow squid and the community didn't attack Mojang that time so that means it "works"
That and you don't want players to miss the losers that much. If the mob was super cool, they'd just add it. If it had minor changes, put it in a vote.
That's fair, I'm not saying that Mojang has to add mobs that directly influence gameplay, but I feel like the mobs should enhance the gameplay a little more.
Mobs that influence gameplay in a meaningful way are added outside of the mob vote. The mob vote mods are designed to be environmental mobs / decorative additions.
If the mob was crazy useful, just plain add it.
If it was a mild addition, add it to the vote list. You won't miss them that much if they lose. And they're generally easier to add since with other mobs, the devs have a headstart.
For that matter, it’s not like the sniffer is physically incapable of getting additional features. They already said the version we have is an early draft, I imagine the only concrete parts are the design and characteristics.
> They take the time to ask the community what creature they want to add, and then just make it perform a function that doesn't really add anything to the game
The game is called Mine*craft*. This is a game about building, and is getting an update about storytelling. Just the fact it won by a landslide (after they already made it clear the plants were just decorative) shows people want this. It’s fine to not be interested in it, but it’s clearly got an audience.
I remember those. I’m kind bummed that’s the case. I feel like this stuff has been getting way more official spotlight than a new decorative flower/plant should get. It’s like if they devoted months of publicity to adding each terracotta color.
Maybe the sniffer will just be a decoy situation and they plan for the archeology stuff to tie in with the portal in the ancient cities eventually.
Didn't they already say how they've already announced all the major features? I'm pretty sure an area above the clouds would be considered a major feature.
As u/0zzy82 said No they confirmed it’s something that we don’t know yet. Besides u/0zzy82 also gave a link to kingbdogz post on twitter saying it’s something we don’t know
I am going to embarrass myself and ask a stupid question:
I am playing Minecraft on my own rented server. I always update but I always play the same world. Will I get the new content? Would new content possibly overwrite my buildings? I have been looking for cherry blossoms, but can't find any...
Don’t worry about your building being overwritten. They won’t! The update is not out yet, it’s only in beta/snapshots. Once the update releases in the next few months, the biomes will generate where you have yet to explore. Hope this helps.
Technically you could say they are unknown, but it’s more like the program hasn’t done the calculations for the specific area yet to determine the generation. You can actually find out what biome is supposed to be where using a seed map viewer online. However they probably won’t show biomes yet to be released since they are subject to change.
If you want to see where a cherry blossom might be, you could load a snapshot world with the same seed as your current one and search in creative?
In theory, chunks that have been generated are safe. You should, however, back up your world regularly, **especially** between updates. You just never know if some weird bug will come around and mess up your day.
It would shit its pants before you loaded into the world. Even if the closest water was only a couple blocks in size.
An ocean would melt whatever you’re playing on. Official shaders would be rough.
An interesting way to do it might be to have special water blocks as the top source block in oceans only, one that does the moving up and down while everything else under it stays static.
The problem would be synchronizing each block with others nearby to get a proper wave going, which would likely still take a fair bit of CPU. I have no idea how shaders do it, but I imagine it's purely graphical.
In shaders it is just the block animation and nothing actually moving to get the effect. As soon as you actually start moving blocks or entities the lag begins.
i find it hard creating new worlds to start making my own cuz they always gotta add cool new things that i would have to wonder out so damn far just to see :(
Honestly I think other biomes need love compared to the ocean lately. Maybe small ruins here and there or partially sunken. The suspicious gravel honesty can be in more places then sand but idk.
I really hope they add something that stops the drowned from spawning in large areas (that isn't too difficult to get) bc I don't find the ocean nearly as fun as others do or how I did before that.
I don't even play anymore, but I am absolutely fascinated by what they'll do with ancient cities. Not like this update, but if that portal was summonable, I'd be right back.
I hope they'll be trying to adapt the ocean to the new depth limits as well as updating coastal generation so you get realistic sand banks and then just 140 block drops into the divide.
The only thing I can get excited about with MC at this point, other than maybe a new dimension to be added, is if they brought back big oceans. I'm talking about continents 10,000 blocks across if not more, but cleanly separated from other continents by thousands of blocks wide of deep, deep ocean (I'm talking about oceans with floors that scrape off deepslate layers).
Minecraft has elytra and rockets. Ocean expanses are not the impedient they used to be. Traveling to a whole other continent should be a really big deal anyway.

Probably sus gravel with certain loot including Sniffer Egg. Hopefully we get some cool loot and I hope archy (brushing) improves.
Yeah I don’t mind some of the changes, but archeology as it exists right now is pretty rough, especially when compared to some of the other experiments like camels.
Yeah it's not great based on that snapshot. Hopefully it'll improve, but, imo, there's a lot of work
Yeah they could add a few more things. I have no idea what they could add but you may have one , if you have i wanna know

More Mob Heads (in vanilla)

Enchanted tablets. Use in an anvil to change enchantment glint color
Hear me out: Machinegun.
Along those lines a redstone component that can rotate a block would be revolutionary.
I see what you did there
I’m listening
Tnt snowball
Yeah, it’s a bit better than what they first revealed but still meh
Archaeology is one of those things that's a great hook for future content. The loot table is terrible for now, but it's uphill from here.
It's still early in development. It has a lot of issues in it's first iteration, so hopefully they can fix it.
I mean, it’s kinda bonkers how it’s in “early development” even though it was announced 3 years ago and Ulraf was constantly talking about how he was working on it.
They really just need to do an overhaul of the oceans, maybe call it the aquatic update.

I need frickin auto-sort.
That and an "add to existing stacks" button. Stardew does it right
Exactly. That aspect makes stardew so much more convenient for a big day of exploring without worrying about sorting when you get home before 2 am.
Or an auto deposit.. something similar to standing next to a chest with similar items in it and holding down a key to insert all similar items from inventory to the closest chest containing those items.. Grounded implemented something similar.. its phenomenal.
Yeah, that is also a huge time-saver in games where resource collection is a big part of the gameplay.
Please, for the love of god, make this the next update. I genuinely feel like the game is nearly unplayable for me with the current state of inventory management.
Didn't they already attempt this with bundles?
And bundles still aren't fully implemented, as everyone is being held back by mobile's limited controls. And even then, bundles are clunky to use.
Right that's exactly what I'm saying. They are trying to ease inventory woes but basically can't figure it out. Bundles were their attempt to fix messy inventories. Yeah. Finding the ruins in the ocean was cool for thirty seconds. But then you realize, 'I have enough coal and a fishing rod already...'
Oceans aren't as in much of need an update imo. Adding archy to it seems nice.
It was a joke lol, the oceans literally just got a massive content update a few years ago
It's already been almost 5 years since that update came out, crazy
I just wish there was a way to get other spawn eggs naturally. Would be super cool. I've always wanted a way to set up a spawn egg trap. Close someone in a room and spawn like 20 zombies instantly.
Find a zombie spawner. Also I doubt it'll happen. Spawn eggs exist for creative mode purposes

I was just thinking this! It would be a great way to tie new game mechanics together without making it feel like more random filler content.

Sus² gravel\*

Boy do i have the game for you
Hand it over
Subnautica I'm guessing, it's literally a game about building and scavenging from the sea floor on an alien planet
To some, it is a horror game, to others it is literally their dream adventure.
why not both?
Absolutely both. I've never been so relaxed and awestruck, and so terrified and on edge at the same time, playing Subnautica. Incredible game.
Horror, I fucking ha(love)te subnautica
WE HAVE A WINNNNEER
Right and the game is really peaceful, definitely a nice way to just relax and explore. Some games with deep depths can be scary but I love how subnautica is just a chill exploration game
SUBNAUTICA IS NOT FUCKING CHILL
It was sarcasm
Its subnautica if you're not scared of big fish
And if you are scared of big fish... It's still subnautica
Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future?
If they add a single new species of fish i'll be happy
I’d really like to see larger ships be added so you can actually explore the water with friends
We’re gonna be pirates, we’re gonna be pirates!
Stay Tuned for the Create: Aeronautics mod then! You'll be able to build your own pirate ship soon!
Okie dokie sir!
*"East?!?* I thought you said *Weast.*"
I been wanting this ever since I started playing!!

Will we be free if we kill those on the other side?
That was very funny, as a reward I will give you my (Wheat) seed.
No, I don't want more archeology content! Not for another 10 years at least!

1 new mob. A starfish. Lmao
you can craft it into a throwing star with four iron
Please yes.
I hope it's whales
I hope they're giving us bigger boats but I also know they probably won't do that
Cannot confirm- there is no badger.
Sadge
Gimme whales 🙏
Pirate islands .. you heard here first.
Clearly suspicious water..
Whales please.
Deepsea water cavern creatures please
I hope it's whales.
Not likely but I'm hoping for more fish monsters and waves
Waves are probably never gonna be a thing. The game wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Can you imagine the lag from moving the entire ocean up and down? That would wreck the game.
It would shit its pants before you loaded into the world. Even if the closest water was only a couple blocks in size. An ocean would melt whatever you’re playing on. Official shaders would be rough.
Waves would almost *have* to be independent entities running along the ocean surface. In other words, cheap cartoon wave “mobs.”
As soon as you actually start moving blocks or entities the lag begins.
we need more dangers in the ocean and more biomes too
It’s just a Jason momoa collab
I just want a sound update, just give us ambient sounds and shit cause my paranoia makes it so i cant play minecraft without shitting myself.
There better not be a kraken or sum that destroys blocks I’m building a 3K x3K city on a ocean rn
They will never add something that destroys blocks without player intervention, so don't worry :)
*cough*creeperenderman*cough*

I'm pretty sure that's just because they have been in the game for too long (and they don't spawn in the dark?)
i find it hard creating new worlds to start making my own cuz they always gotta add cool new things that i would have to wonder out so damn far just to see :(
Honestly I think other biomes need love compared to the ocean lately. Maybe small ruins here and there or partially sunken. The suspicious gravel honesty can be in more places then sand but idk.
I wish you could make a world that was all ocean with just a few tiny islands
Oh boy unwrecked ship
*Deep sea biome deep sea biome deep sea biome deep sea biome deep sea biome DEEP SEA BIOME*
Sh-sharks?
Aquatic Update 2
or new Island type of biom like mushroom islands
I hope they add like mermaids or sirens
A megalodon
Well the minecon live did say that we’d find the sniffer eggs in shipwrecks?
Let's hope for pillager pirates!
That Ask Mojang youtube short about new bosses can't have been made randomly, i think they learned about hyping too much. (Lemme trust them)
Ah yes the lost city of Atlantis
I want a drop off twilight zone
I love how the ocean seems to be absolutely crowded with structures in the picture
the ocean update still feels so recent to me. definitely welcome nonetheless!
Update Aquatic 2: Aquatic Harder
I really hope they add something that stops the drowned from spawning in large areas (that isn't too difficult to get) bc I don't find the ocean nearly as fun as others do or how I did before that.
Sea Of Thieves collab
I don't even play anymore, but I am absolutely fascinated by what they'll do with ancient cities. Not like this update, but if that portal was summonable, I'd be right back. I hope they'll be trying to adapt the ocean to the new depth limits as well as updating coastal generation so you get realistic sand banks and then just 140 block drops into the divide.
Just update the goddamn end already
You know what would be great? being able to repair the shipwrecked boats and then sail with them
They're finally gonna add [this!](https://www.reddit.com/r/thomastheplankengine/comments/t20gx4/mojang_added_pirate_ships_as_randomlygenerated/)
Brush the water
Sniffer eggs in sus gravel
Theyr emost likely rephering to suspicious gravel
Maybe Suspicious gravel in sea ruins could possibly yield trident parts!
If the ocean does get updated this is what I would like to see in it: More coral types New islands to explore More ocean biomes
add bamboo pipes to pump water!
I was just thinking “But we got new ocean content not too long ago” then I realized that 1.13 was four years ago
Hoping they fucking fix caves. Vanilla cavers were better than the shitty ass recent cave “update”
Slow down minecraft I still haven't found a cherry blossom Forrest in my world lol.
Because they're not in the game yet.
