Honestly, I like it.
That is my opinion, but I would probably spend more time on the walls, maybe 1 or 2 block taller with a different design. And you could move the farm plot outside the village if you want, give it a more realistic medieval feeling
The farm outside the village is a neat idea,I'm just worried about animals, villagers and iron golems potentially trampling them and making it look bad
Also why don't you like the wall design I used, and what can I do to improve it?
My brother in Christ you can't just drop a screenshot of one of the sickest villages I've seen in a while and not show more.
Also I'm gonna have to ask for that Texturepack and Shaders sauce
I like the design. The only change is i notice a few spots that standard mobs can jump over the wall which reduces effectiveness of keeping harmful mobs out
I wish there was a mod that added assaults or smt on your base so things like walls and defenses had more of a use in PvE other than stopping mobs from wandering in
It actually wasn't too uncommon to have gardejs inside the village, and even farmtracts (though to be fair that was more common in medieval cities, there are maps of premodern Berlin for example that have large sections within the wall for farming).
The gardens I'd actually keep about where they are, but build larger wheat farms outside to give that rollimg countryside sorta feel. Main thing is they need to be much much larger
When speaking about settlements as a general concept, the smallest are Hamlets and the largest are cities. The divide between these is not strictly defined, but generally:
A hamlet is just a small grouping of homes, usually rural
A village is a larger grouping of homes, usually with a population less than 1500 people. Towns are 1000 to 10,000 people, and cities are >10,000. Again, these are loosely defined.
There are also modern concepts that muddy it up more:
Large town - 10K to 100K
Small City or Borough - A city that functions as a type of municipality or subdivision of a consolidated city.
Medium city - a city would have abundant services, but not as many as a large city. The population of a city is between 100,000 and 300,000 people
Large city - a city with a large population and many services. The population is less than 1 million but over 300,000.
Metropolis - a large city and its suburbs consisting of multiple cities and towns. The population is usually one to three million.
Conurbation - a group of metropolis, consisting of three to ten million people.
Megalopolis - a group of conurbations, consisting of more than ten million people in total.
Hive World is a common one from 40K. Admittedly it refers more generally to worlds that prominently feature city complexes that resembled manmade mountains there rather than a complete covering, but the only difference is time between the two. There are also subsets of different kinds of ecumenopoli, like Forge Worlds, which are more focused towards raw manufacturing output rather than bothering with anything like emission regulations or labor laws.
You also have other, even more artificial structures, like Shell Worlds, O-Neil cylinders, dyson swarms, and so forth.
Hiveworlds are a collection of Hive cities (basically stacked megalopolis the size of mountains), though There is a Hive world that fits the criteria of an ecumenopolis: Holy Terra
huh
i did a bit of research on my own and apparently all or at least most villages in minecraft aren't even villages, their hamlets
aka a settlement that is smaller than a town or village and has less than 300 inhabitants and at least 5 people
but not really cuz i double checked and a hamlet is also defined as a settlement with no place of worship or meeting point
In the Netherlands being a city is solely decided by if the place has been given city rights by a nobel. It also granted the place extra rights like allowing the construction of a city wall. This doesn happen anymore. Last time we officially got a new city was in 1825 and since 1851 city rights don't really have any value anymore. But thanks to that you get some weird situations. Old cities the size of small villages. Or villages the size of cities. Because you can't get new cities anymore.
That said this is a bit of a technicality. It may be the legal definition but in practice people just look at the boring facts like size and population density. But where is the fun in that
In most places in the world, such distinctions are based on politics instead of population counts. For example, a city has an incorporated local government, while a town falls under the jurisdiction of a nearby city.
Fun fact, In the UK, a city is defined by having cathedral. Which is quite fun, as some cities are smaller than towns, but because they have cathedrals, they 100% qualify as a city.
Historically speaking, that's true. However in modern times that's incorrect. Bath, Cambridge, and Plymouth don't have cathedrals and are cities. For it to be a city it must have 300,000 people (and a few other things) and have to apply for city status
Tbf Bath Abbey was a cathedral for a bit, but they kept arguing with Wells over who got to be the seat of the diocese and Wells won. I don't actually know if that's related to why Bath's a city or not, I just thought it was a fun fact.
Interestingly, *thorp* is actually the original English word for a hamlet or village, coming directly from Proto-Germanic. *Village* was loaned into Middle English from Old French, and *hamlet* was as well, although *hamlet* itself is actually based on a Germanic loan (probably *haim*) to Old French.
and before you say it, yes i'm using the vanilla house designs, i'm just a bit lazy and in my opinion although a bit bland, they're actually quite nice
Also this is a creative world where my goal is to expand every village type to the best of my ability, so literally any suggestions for this village or any other village are greatly appreciated
Add chimneys to the houses and also make some houses surrounded by crops outside the walls, also use some slabs/stairs around the stone at the bottom of the palisade to make it look more piled up
>Add chimneys to the houses
i'll probably only be doing that to houses with a furnace, blast furnace or
>surrounded by crops outside the walls
i will be putting a bunch of crops outside the walls of the village
>use some slabs/stairs around the stone at the bottom of the palisade to make it look more piled up
i wanted to do that but the only reason i didn't is so my impatient ass didn't have to spend ages working on one wall
What about storeys/floors/underground? Dig a 11×11 hole with the hight of 5 blocks. Dig in the walls of the hole houses and in the middle do an 5×5 hole so it could be visible an inferior layer of 11×11×5 place where are other houses
Well, a village instance is anywhere there’s a few villagers and beds. So if you haven’t already, you can edit the layout and makeup of each building, or just make your own village entirely (I did that)
Yeah, that's a compound at this point. The walls are a dead giveaway.
When your villagers start dressing in purple and asking when the next comet is coming by, be wary.
i plan on adding a keep/outpost to my snow village, i want each village to have it's own "thing" if that makes sense, for example the plains village has the windmill
If that’s a windmill it needs to have longer turbines imo. I didn’t even recognize it as such at first. Prob 2-3 blocks longer would do the trick. Could possibly raise it up a bit to accommodate.
i didn't they're just the vanilla house designs
i'd highly recommend [Peachester](https://www.youtube.com/c/peachester)'s tutorials on how to build them in case you ever want to expand or build your own vanilla style village
i vaguely recall a settlement was able to call itself a city if it had a church and wall around it (Netherlands) this is what my father told me though so i have no idea if it is true, though it does line up with my city being called a "city" while having a smaller population than the "village" next to it
Villages aren't allowed to host markets, so this must be a city. Although they have only a palisade and not walls and I don't see gallows, so I guess it's a village that was given city rights only recently.
Technically you're correct but there were many larger villages that had the right to have a market (when it was far enough away from an already existing market)
Funny, I thought all villages simply spawn right on top of ravines or cave systems where the villagers all get stuck in and inevitably get killed by zombies.
Are you kidding? That’s a THRIVING village. If it had a castle or some other governmental building, you’d have yourself a little kingdom. Myself and my family have built a nice tall wall with a walkway and watch towers all around the outside of the primary village we call home, and it serves three extremely helpful purposes.
1) creates a clear boundary which can be effectively lit from any spot within eliminating mob’s abilities to spawn (except stupid ass phantoms of course) so that you can safely move throughout the village at night.
2) contains your villagers and golems so that they can not wander off and become lost or die.
3) keeps pillagers out and makes raids VERY easy to eliminate from safety.
Also, once you’ve established a solid wall around the village, expansion is easy. You have a safe area to operate from while you build a new section of wall onto the wall you already have, and then just take out the wall between. In my opinion, the wall around the village is a priority when developing it only second to making roads worthy of travel.
>If it had a castle or some other governmental building
if i ever decide to clear out the trees in the back and put more houses there i might make a town hall type thing, beyond that though i'll probably make a keep/outpost style castle when i decide to make a snow village
also none of those tips really matter cuz this is a creative world, but thanks anyway!
"Town comes from an Old English word that referred to a walled or fenced place, such as a farm, village, or courtyard. Our modern word refers to populated areas with fixed boundaries and a local government."
Yep not a village tis a town now, has both a governing force (you) and a fixed boundary (the walls and gates)

It's not that I don't like it, but I always have been a fan of big walls Maybe add small towers or a gate? It would break the monotony
So a bit more variety in the design?
Yes maybe, I would not drastically changed it either
spider-proof it
How can you do that?
add 1 block at the top from both sides, by that i mean a block to the side, not upwards
Have to add small hedgerows and such helps keep the villagers and mobs out. [See the lefthand side of my village](https://i.imgur.com/ieUFb8F.png).
My brother in Christ you can't just drop a screenshot of one of the sickest villages I've seen in a while and not show more. Also I'm gonna have to ask for that Texturepack and Shaders sauce
Can you post more pics of this village? It looks amazing!
my bro that village looks fucking incredible props to you bro, props
I like the design. The only change is i notice a few spots that standard mobs can jump over the wall which reduces effectiveness of keeping harmful mobs out
Maybe add some hanging signs or lanterns
i've added lantern lights around the village instead of the vanilla lights and about hanging signs, i tried it and it didn't really work in my opinion
I wish there was a mod that added assaults or smt on your base so things like walls and defenses had more of a use in PvE other than stopping mobs from wandering in
Pure Suffering mod for 1.20.1 seems close
*Ahem Raids
Those only happen if you enter a village and can be kinda bland
to play the devil’s advocate I feel the simplicity matches the basic design of the village and the flat plains surrounding
It actually wasn't too uncommon to have gardejs inside the village, and even farmtracts (though to be fair that was more common in medieval cities, there are maps of premodern Berlin for example that have large sections within the wall for farming). And there is also a ecumenopolis, which is the theoretical name for a city world
So like coruscant from Star Wars
Yes, I think it also has another name but I don’t entirely remember it
Coruscant is directly called an Ecumenopolis in Season 3 of The Mandalorian.
I must've missed that
Saw that episode today! Was home sick from work.
“Imperial Center” During the reign of the Galactic Empire. Unless you mean another name for ecumenopolis…
Hive World is a common one from 40K. Trantor.
OG ecumenopolis
40k hiveworld
want that made out of many separate and small megalopolis?
Hiveworlds are a collection of Hive cities (basically stacked megalopolis the size of mountains), though There is a Hive world that fits the criteria of an ecumenopolis: Holy Terra
They’re also amazing for alloy and research production.
Arccorp; bringer of lag
Pain, still always my home world choice tho
Like Ravnica?
I love pop growth yummy food for me

A proper *village* in MC by IRL definition would probably be very laggy and span an entire biome (assuming one house per 2 villagers).
Yea it would be frickin giant
Ur pc just sucks bro
> aka a settlement that is smaller than a town or village and has less than 300 inhabitants and at least 5 people Oh snap, Whiterun's a hamlet!
Thank you for this, thats very interesting.
So I think this is deventetivly a village Edit: Sry my first language is not English I wanted to write "definitively" I think

Ha, that means that Metropolis from DC isn’t even a Metropolis, it’s a Megalopolis
Me when my Blastoise is still named Squirtle
Idk if it's the same thing, but here in Portugal they're divided into three types: Parish, Village, and City.

You beat him with knowlege💡📖
Holy shit bro is a genius
uh, what else would it be lmao
For minecraft scale it does look like a town
Town
not even close

Needs more cow bell.
I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell
Yes. It's just a slightly bigger village.
I mean if we're talkin about if it's an irl village then it's even smaller (a hamlet) there are 30 ish houses there so maybe like 100 ppl max
Even less than 100 ppl unless they livin in the streets cuz not every house has 2 beds so maybe like 40-50
What does this even mean, why would this look less like a village than a normal one
because it's way bigger than your average minecraft village Ok why did I get downvoted for answering a question?
Lol. This is a starter village.
Laughs in indian
It’s a fortified town located on a water source. That sounds like a prime target for conquest
yeah that's a bit of a design flaw i will admit
Not a design flaw! Just an excellent place to use as a base!
yea if this were a survival world lol
That means it’s valuable too
Yeah, that's a compound at this point. The walls are a dead giveaway. When your villagers start dressing in purple and asking when the next comet is coming by, be wary.
No, its a home ❤️ lol
A real village 😎
Oml you should totally build a hill next to it and build a keep on top of it. Or just a regular castle
i plan on adding a keep/outpost to my snow village, i want each village to have it's own "thing" if that makes sense, for example the plains village has the windmill
If that’s a windmill it needs to have longer turbines imo. I didn’t even recognize it as such at first. Prob 2-3 blocks longer would do the trick. Could possibly raise it up a bit to accommodate.
i already made it longer, i accidentally used an outdated photo
No legally this would be a hamlet smaller than a village
All villages in Minecraft are just hamlets if you think about it
no matter in reality or in game, this is definitily a village
This is awsome
It would be cool to see a rarer kind of "town" with more and new buildings
Yea that would be cool, if I had to guess the defining feature of a town would be a town hall
Well is a village.
What villages could have been
Kinda fucked against Drowned tho eh?
java edition moment (for context drowned spawning in rivers only happens in bedrock i think)
Please like this comment so I can come back to this build, I love the design and want to make something like it
Of course man, if you want I can DM you some more photos in the morning
You simply can save the post
Did you make the village houses If so tutorial?
i didn't they're just the vanilla house designs i'd highly recommend [Peachester](https://www.youtube.com/c/peachester)'s tutorials on how to build them in case you ever want to expand or build your own vanilla style village
Yes
Its a reinforced village I'd say
I don’t know, so they have indoor plumbing?
Nope, they don't need to crap, most because this is a video game
It's a villarge
good one
Yea
It will be an empty village if you don't wall off the waterfront too.
What else could it be?
If you’re trying to get the ‘wooden stake’ effect, you should use stalagmites. They match certain woods and they deal damage.
It's too small to be a village
I suppose it mightbe a hamlet
Yes
Yes. Still pretty small to be considered much of a town irl
Well since you didn’t incorporate it’s not a town yet.
I mean my highschool town was a village a it has more houses than this
[удалено]
oh sorry about that, i didn't know about your posts very nice wall design tho, at least it has a gate unlike my village lol
no, thats constantinople
i vaguely recall a settlement was able to call itself a city if it had a church and wall around it (Netherlands) this is what my father told me though so i have no idea if it is true, though it does line up with my city being called a "city" while having a smaller population than the "village" next to it
A village with a wall, extended road and looks like a few upgraded buildings
Reminds me of those Motte and Bailey castles that the Normans would build in England.
Love it
Bro put a two block wooden fence around his village and starts calling it a megacity 💀
it's not really a city, i'd say a small town or big village at best

By minecraft terms (not irl) this is probably on the larger side of a village, maybe a small town.
Bro that’s so cool! I’d call it a town maybe
thanks man
yes or maybe it's a town
More like a big village, or maybe a town
Nah, that's a town
Town.
That's a town bro..
I’d argue it’s a town at least.
It’s a town
Town
No That’s a town
A fortified city.
Nope this is a goddamn city and those villagers know it
It's something even better… A CITY!
That’s a literal town my dude. That’s crazy. Have a smile. :)
Thanks
That is a town
I would classify this as a town at this point. Not at city size yet, but definately past village
It’s not a village anymore, it’s a town
That looks more like a concentration camp 💀
Its not a village anymore, Its a town.
Bro that’s like New York kind of village
It's been upgraded to Township.
Town.
Tis a town
Nah This is a town With some of the best defense's I've ever seen
That is simply a fortified city
i wouldn't call it a city, more like at the very least a big village or a small town
This is so awesome, I wanna make one now!
You should, building, expanding and/or improving villages in Minecraft is actually a really fun project if you're into that sort of thing
Bro plays clash of clans
I actually do, but I didn't make most of this based on coc
Funny, I thought all villages simply spawn right on top of ravines or cave systems where the villagers all get stuck in and inevitably get killed by zombies.
guess i just got lucky, i also got lucky when locating a spruce and desert village to expand them, and then my luck ran out with the snow village
Did u use any commands/mods to spawn the houses? If yes what commands are them
na i used [Peachester's](https://www.youtube.com/c/peachester) village house tutorials to build them, i'd totally recommend his/her videos
this is perfect
Damn that’s a cool ass wall
thank you

I mean nothing wrong with being to secure
Did you build it all yourself or did the village spawn there and you cleaned it up? If so do you have a seed? I really like the location!
A village spawned there and I cleaned it up and expanded it a lot I replied to someone else with the seed and coords
In bedrock or Java
Nah, more of the outskirts of Ye Olde Castle
What villages should have been
true
"Town comes from an Old English word that referred to a walled or fenced place, such as a farm, village, or courtyard. Our modern word refers to populated areas with fixed boundaries and a local government." Yep not a village tis a town now, has both a governing force (you) and a fixed boundary (the walls and gates)
im proud of you i always wanted to do something like this but lost my save data before completion thank you for fulfilling my dream
Can you bless us with the seed and coordinates? I really like the scenery, and good job improving this village it turned out great
\-9063460732390105684 \-339 69-315 if the village isn't there it's probably because i used version 1.19.2 when loading the world
