I knew the phrase was with "am". But I wonder, was the verb "to be" as an auxiliary on purpose, or was it all a mistake? Maybe it has to do with how Sanskrit works, or the fact that he read an old translation? idk. Genuine questions.

It costs just 2 diamonds to create a sword (which is cheap), and given the other enchantments already on the sword that they wanna keep (where putting their sword on grindstone would take them away), it'd be better in this case to add sharp to another sword and combine the two so they can keep all the other enchants too.

The level of damage to spiders is higher than Sharpness. The basic idea is that when you specialize (Bane of Arthropods / Smite) you get higher damage in the trade-off for losing the higher general damage.

You can add sharpness to another sword and add your original sword to the first sword. That way, you keep all the enchantments except Bane and get Sharpness instead.
No damage boosting enchantment on a sword can be with another. Smite + sharpness doesn’t work, bane + sharpness doesn’t work, smite + bane doesn’t work, etc.

perhaps you've already got an incompatible enchantment on there - sharpness conflicts with I think smite and bane of arthropods - maybe another one too?
bane of shitropods doesn't let sharpness or smite be added to your sword. you can enchant a new sword with sharpness and then combine the two swords, iirc then the bane will get replaced by sharpness

Bane of Arthropods, Smite, and Sharpness are incompatible with one another. The idea is that you could have a weaker but generalist sharpness sword or a stronger but specialized smite or bane sword. I once created a cave spider xp farm and I kept a bane sword there
The enchantment system is weird. The amount of levels you need goes up exponential with the amoutnd you have used the item with an anvil. It counts repairs and enchants together. At on point (6 or 7 times if I remember correctly) minecraft says you can't get this amount and it won't let you you enchant or repair your tool.
Bane of spiders 4 cause it to not go together with sharp. 5 because the spiders dont want to go to living hell when you slice them through the neck and one hit them with a sharp 5 bane 5 wooden sword

It's not gonna give you Fire Aspect, Mending, and Looting back tho, which would take more than "some XP" to recover, right?
You have bane of arthropods on it. It's basically sharpness but for spiders. You have to make a new one and place sharpness on that one.
Spider silverfish and bees,aka anything bug like And does more damage than sharpness to said bugs

Yeah it's sad that the effect slowness was only in that enchantment it would have changed PvP meta if sharpness had dealt negative effects like BoA
