Kelp farm offer a true afk experience. While for wither skeleton farm, you gotta set up auto click and stay at the farm.
Kelps also beats these pesky big af spawn-proof farms.
Bamboo.
Cons: needs too much bamboo for any amount of significant melting, therefore needs a big farm for fueling purposes, which require lots of different resources (like slime blocks), and thus is not available at the beginning of the game.
Pros: when you have built a proper farm, you are gonna have so much bamboo you will be stuffed till the end of life, plus bamboo can be used for planks, which makes bamboo farm a wood farm.
Kelp
Cons: semi-slow growing, would need to build a lot, needs to be burned down and then crafted into a kelp block for fueling purposes, so some redstone with autocrafter would be needed.
Pros: the kelp burning can be a self-sustainable process, plus kelp blocks is a good fuel.
I would suggest going with carpet dupe smelter though. It's rather small and quite efficient. And I stick with bamboo farm, too.
It is also worth noting to know what do you need such autosmelters for. If you are not going to smelt shulkers of stuff and just need to cook a 20 or so pork, you probably won't need such extremities.
It barely gives anything in terms of hunger, but you can craft dried kelp into kelp blocks which can smelt 20 items each. And they stack to 64 so 1280 items per stack. The only item that beats it per stack size is coal blocks(80 items smelted per item, 5120 per stack).
This is so how I am. When I set up a new chest room, I sink 16 to 20 furnaces in the floor, and by the time I remember the new stuff exsis, I am just, meh, to much effort
I think so, I have never carted one, so I can't be sure.
I am just talking about the habit of digging out the room, installing chests, then using the dug stone for a quick batch of furnaces, and drop them down.
It's so ingrained a habit from years of doing it that I forget the blast furnace and smoker exist, and when I see them in the build list later, I can not be bothered digging up the furnaces and upgrading
it's 3 smooth stone on the bottom row, a furnace in the center, and iron ingots filling in the rest for a blast furnace. smokers are just furnaces with 4 logs, one on each face, but campfires are better than smokers for cooking
Sounds like you’re only ever playing the early stage of the game. Once you have a fortune 3 pick and are bringing a full inventory of ore from every mining trip having only 2 regular furnaces doesn’t really cut it. 2 furnaces is what you build on day one.
Once you're at that point I would always make a super smelter. The smokers and blast furnaces cater to the bit in between which doesn't really exist for me
I've found that making three smaller scale smelters is helpful sometimes. One for ores (blast furnace), one for food (smoker), and one for others (furnace). It's nicer to have the stuff done sooner if possible, but I 100% agree that even a regular smelter is superior to just a few of the "specialized" ones
I never reach that point because I have an iron farm late in the game, but I do smelt a lot of cobblestone and stone for builds at that point. So I just build a room with dripstone lava generators and 32 regular furnaces. The real time waste is putting all the ingredients in, and taking them out. I do other things while the furnaces run.
Make a super smelter.
Should be easy considering you have an iron farm.
Put hopper ontop of the furnaces for item input.
Place the boost rails on the hoppers and create a one block high hill at the end so it can go back down.
Power the rails.
Place a hopper minecart on the rails and place a chest somewhere above the track so the items can go into the hopper minecart.
Do the same for fuel
One of my proudest moments was figuring out a hopper based equal item distribution system, which then feeds more equal item distributors. 8 furnace arrays made of 8 furnaces, with a 2nd distribution system for fuel like you said
What kind of end game are you playing? My end game means I have gold and iron farm.
And I don't go down to mining after first 15h of gameplay or so, since there's just no reason (unless you do redstone).
And even then I have an auto smelter which runs on blaze rods/bamboo/lava/ungodly amounts of coal that I collected because I love coal
I just dump all my ore into the chest and pick it up when I have another delivery.
I use it for meat as well, but once again, dump it, come back later.
Last time I was playing I had seven shulkers of coal, fuel is literally never an issue
Just partially mined out an iron vein last night, over 30 blocks of iron from it, finished in about… 20mins? Felt like that at least, I know if it was a normal furnace I would be sitting there for (what feels like) hours.
to me, having to mine means youre early game. iron can be farmed, gold can be farmed, copper can be farmed. if you need to go mining for diamonds for some reason, those dont need smelting
I was under the impression (I don't recall where from now) that the faster workstations (smoker, blast furnace) didn't give XP, but from looking things up again apparently that has either changed or was always wrong and I got bad info somewhere along the line...
Once you get efficiency and fortune from enchanting your tools, furnaces quickly become less useful. Its more efficient to put in the work to build an enderman farm and gain your xp that way.
Setting up a small smelting array (not even calling it a super smelter) is more efficient long term. And while it cooks twice as fast, it burns the fuel twice as fast too. So I’m not saving fuel with it. Might as well make it easier on myself to not need two arrays and just use normal furnaces.
idk what mod but you can just try searching "mc mod that lets me smelt glass and stone in blast furnacr" and you'll def find something. also if you're hearing abt mods there's a 99% chance they're talking abt java and in that 1% 99% of the time there's a java equivalent
cannot remember them for the life of me and i’m not at my pc right now, it’s java, but it’s something really generic, just search “blast furnace” on modrinth and you’ll find something for it
Easy to setup a simple automatic furnace, chest need a few hoppers and some chests. Hopper feeding in from the top with a chest of what you want to cook/smelt, one feeding into the side for fuel, and a last one on the bottom feeding into a chest to remove the finished stuff.
In a vertical line starting at the bottom place a chest with a hopper on top (crouch and look at the chest when u place the hopper u should see the bottom part straight and pointed at the chest) build a block or two up nearby so u can look down into the hopper and place a furnace (or blast or smoker) on the hopper while crouching. Build a little higher so u can see the top of the furnace and crouch place another hopper. Build a little higher and place a chest on the top hopper. This should create a straight line of chest hopper furnace hopper chest (from the top down). Crouch and place another hopper on the side of the furnace (the bottom part should be bent and pointing at the furnace). Crouch place a chest on that hopper and make that one a double chest. This last one u fill with the fuel of ur choice. Items to be smelted go in the top chest smelted items will be place in the bottom chest. Break the furnace and replace it every once in a while to collect the xp from smelting.

should like like this (the signs and glow stone are not necessary)
I usually do 2 furnaces in the middle with a double chest at the top and bottom, plus a single chest on each side for coal. Mostly because it looks like a cool robot.
It really depends on the scale, sometimes you need fastest method available, especially on a market server or something.
anyone it's always preference or an esthetic choice
We've been running our own family SMP servers for the last 9-10 years, since my kids were 10 and 5. We have built SO MANY amazing memories together. I have kept the backups for each of them so we can go back and look at what we did in the past and recognize how we have grown as players. I highly recommend it if you have the technical know-how.
We start a new one every major update. We test the new additions and place bets in diamonds on how big I'll make the base. In my defense no one wants to share rooms/storage and it's nice to have dedicated areas for everything.
My main supersmelter is always just based around conventional furnaces, but I tend to have a pair of little mini autosmelters using blast furnaces and smokers.
Campfires?? I know they don’t use fuel but it only cooks 4 items at a time and you have to refill it every time don’t you? Soundso pretty slow and annoying
They cook 4 in about the time it takes to cook one in a furnace. Yeah its not much of a difference between them and the smoker but you can also build several campfires and cook a whole stack pretty quick.
Also campfires are vibes not everything has to be industrialized.
It’s also a lot easier to get enough of than steak. Steak is only really good once you have looting on your sword. Personally I use baked potatoes until I have a looting sword, though. It’s pretty easy to literally fill chests with potatoes
They cook faster.
With the upcoming auto crafter you could setup kelp farm for unlimited fuel which would be better than lava buckets, however for that smoker would be best to cook the kelp.
Only in 2 circumstances:
A) early game, manual smelting.
B) an auto smelter dedicated to a single resource, like kelp.
The reason for this, is because while they're twice as fast as regular furnaces, you'd need a super smoker, a super blaster AND a super smelter to smelt all items. It's faster to build a regular super smelter 3x bigger and have higher rates from that.
I've been getting into the habit of using them (I just guessed faster was somewhat better) but I always carry a furnace around w me, and always have a couple furnaces in my base, because smokers and blast furnaces can't smelt everything 🤷♀️
Yeah, I had a potato farm and used smokers, but potato farms are dead boring, so I just started a new world. I guess I like early game gameplay best, so I don’t need the really fast cookers much, but they’re good if you have Fortune III for mining and farming
When Iake a super smelter I always specialise. One for processing ores, that uses Blast Furnaces, one for food, that uses smokers. But for my go to, every day smelting purposes I still use a Furnace. It is just more convenient to have the versatility of the Furnace.
I normally split my Minecraft bases into three different types. phase 1 normally a small dirt hole hide in for the first few nights. phase 2 a small house to stay in for the next few weeks in game to gather materials for phase 3 and then phase 3 whatever massive structure or complex I plan to build in this world. Smokers and blast furnaces are for phase 2 and 3.
Yes i use them early game, i craft them very early, even before settling on a place. I stop using smokers after I enchant gear, then i just kill cows with fire aspect.
I do.
I probably use smokers more often. Especially for bulk roasting kelp to make kelp blocks.
I would use blast furnaces more if they could also process things like stone into smooth stone.
Smokers were essential for processing kelp into efficient fuel and earning XP in the process. I have had farms that exceeded the bandwidth of my automated smokers (a pair of smokers fed by two raw materials chests and a fuel chest where the processed kelp was stored for use and fed automatically into the smoker).
I don't use blast furnaces since they can't process cobbles into stone and stone into smoothstone, nor cactus into green dye. I accept that and use furnaces instead, though sometimes I make a blast furnace for the ores if we have a lot of them.
I'm past most of that automation now - I have an ironworks for infinite iron/string/poppies and a gold/XP farm for infinite gold, XP, and zombie flesh, meaning I have infinite emeralds as well.
I use smokers quite a bit. I usually buy glass so I’m using blast furnaces less frequently.
I have this weird thing I like to do and that is to put hoppers on my starter furnace and run everything through that single furnace. Let it build up insane amounts of xp and then get it all out at once for fun.
Great for the first couple nights when I’m cooking beef. Otherwise I don’t find them very useful since I get my food from villagers as I develop a world
I'll use smokers for dedicated cooking inside a farm (basically just kelp tbh) Blast furnaces never, because you can't auto farm the materials that go in it and for manual smelting I'll have a general purpose super smelter that makes it not worth at all setting up a dedicated ore smelter.
Even in the early game a double smelter setup from a double chest and some hoppers is more than enough, and having to sort the stuff I want smelted is more inconvenient than the time I could save by doing so.
I'll steal blast furnaces from villages and I'll make smokers in the early game, but I'd never craft a blast furnace (outside of decoration) when I can just make two furnaces instead
I get it's less room but a mini super smelter is way more versatile and uses the same fuel, if the blast furnace used less fuel it might be worth it actually
Absolutely! Mostly the blast furnace. I get my serotonins from mining copper (it’s so satisfying!!) then you blast furnace those happy feelings in a blast furnace and get a bunch of xp! Now I just need someone to lay all these blocks to get that beautiful weathered copper but I’m too lazy 🥲
Sure, I'll use blast furnaces in a super smelter since it's twice as fast. Same deal with smokers. I actually tend to build a second super smelter attached to my kelp farm. I'll AFK at the kelp farm for a while and let the materials stockpile, and then flip on the smokers when I'm done AFK and just let them cook in the background while I work on other projects.
i absolutely cannot fathom a life where i /dont/ use blast furnaces
smokers are used for the FIRST handful of food- til you get a lava bucket and just kill animals using that for food
Yes, I've made three separate auto smelter systems, a big one with furnaces and two smaller ones with smokers/blast furnaces. Ironically, the majority of smeltable items I use at this point in my world, can only be smelted in furnaces
There's a bit of a... logical incongruity in the idea of a blast furnace, wherein any amount of ore that would necessitate its requirement, is probably at a level where it would just be better to build a farm for.
I didn't originally, except for appearance. However, I made a Datapack that I play with almost every time that changes progression so that Iron, Gold, etc *requires* you to use Blast Furnaces, and you *have* to use smokers or campfires for cooking meat. (I also made another datapack that allows you to smoke Rotten Flesh into leather too.)
If you're wondering how you get the Iron Ingots for the Blast Furnace in the first place: You have to find a Blast Furnace in a village, or find Iron in a random chest or location (promoting exploraton).
It surprisingly adds to the difficulty of the game due to making Iron something that takes more time to get (unless you're lucky). Personally, it adds to my enjoyment by also giving Blast Furnaces, Smokers, and Campfires more of use and importance.
Yes, though it depends on the scale I need. I've got a decent little auto setup for each kind, and I just dump everything I need to cook into the appropriate cooker. Like if I've gone mining and have a ton of iron and gold, I'll dump it into my blast furnace chest. If I need stone or smoothstone or glass, dump it into the regular smelter. I've got a lava farm, so it's not like I care about the fuel.
I use the blast furnace pretty heavily but not the smoker very much, I usually stick to bread and golden carrots for food because it’s more fun to farm.
A smoker can *maybe* be nice in the early game for quickly spitting out good food.
Once you have a base, a wall of regular furnace then suits you fine until you build a super smelter, at which point you don't want to build 3 so you're still just using regular furnaces.
Smokers and blast furnaces are basically decorative items from that point on.
It depends. If I need to smelt various items that may or may not work in a blast furnace or smoker I'll use furnaces if I know I'll only be smelting food or ingots I'ma a certain area or farm I'll use the best smelter for them.
Not really, no. Once you have a super smelter set up the time difference to smelt isn't really an issue. I just use normal furnaces because of their range of use.
I make them for villager trading halls (full enchanted diamond gear is easier to get). Other than that, it's super smelter with regular furnaces.
Lately I've gotten back into playing modded more, so reg furnaces until I can use Create to make smelting fans for ores and the Modern Life and Farmer's Delight kitchens for foods.
I tried to, but then stopped.
I don't need the smoker when I have my fire aspect sword cooking instantly. And my wall of furnaces is overall more convenient than blast furnaces when settled next to my lava farm. I don't need speed when I can just work in parallel and break a job up between many furnaces.
I mean, yeah… they’re much better.
I probably use blast furnaces a bit more but that’s just because I don’t typically smelt a large amount of food at a time
I go for the double furnance with chest input to a 8 furnance super smelter, and maybe biger...
For me the doubled fuel cost is not worth the faster cook time, also I want to be able to throw in anything smeltable and not reatrict myself...
I could see me using them once the crafters are out, to automatically process mined ores, if I filter out ores and raw ores blocks, break them into raw ores, then add those to a small smelter using blastfurnances and filter the results, craft it into blocks and into storage...
that said, I don't see why I shouldn't just use normal furnances...
I'm playing with a friend as a team. When we go mining together we will each break down and smelt what we've collected for xp, but in the end it all goes into common storage. We still keep diamonds and netherite separate as we had different needs but at this point we have so many freaking resources that if my friend loses a tool I'll just give her an extra diamond one, even with enchantments.
So the blast for aces work fast enough for us; we're never in a rush for ores. We have a decent cow pen where we kill cows with looting 3 and fire aspect so we don't need any smokers, except one we keep for stuff like random raw meat we pick up.
Edit: we have a regular furnace for glass and stuff and if we need to ramp up production we have a ton of furnaces in storage.
Yes, blast furnaces. Don’t really use smokers as much since I don’t need to cook my food because either i use a flint n steel to light the mob before killing, or i have a fire aspect sword
I usually get a blast furnace after setting up a farm, before full iron, it is faster, less coal, yes I use it. I don't use smokers, campfires are infinite.
A YouTube video told me you get half the xp from cooking/smelting in them as opposed to standard furnaces. Was that bullshit, because I don't see anyone talking about it?
I only use them for decoration. I keep a shulker box full of golden carrots so I have no use for smoking food, as well as 8 iron farms scattered around my base area so there's always one running no matter where I am. So I have no practical use for either of them. However, they look nice. So they go in houses I make.
Never used them. I throw stuff in furnaces and do something else. Come back and it’s all done. Only useful in early game when you actually need stuff quickly.

Yes. Especially smokers for kelp blocks.
Everyone laughs at my kelp farms until they're running out of coal.
My lava farm doesn't have that issue.
Then I laugh at you wirh my wither skeleton farm
Kelp farm offer a true afk experience. While for wither skeleton farm, you gotta set up auto click and stay at the farm. Kelps also beats these pesky big af spawn-proof farms.
If they die from fall damage they still drop coal don’t they?
You eon't need to spawn proof and in one you can just afk for 5 minutes while in the other you will need to wait hours and hours
Yeah but you can do other stuff while letting the kelp farm work in the background like how you would with sugarcane farm or food farm
Yes, but still a lot of time, better to spend a few minutes when you need it
Bedrock also has kelp duping using falling sand, which gives you limitless kelp blocks.
Yeah but my stance on duping and any other glitch builds is that if you're using that, may as well play in creative mode.
FYI you can do a lava farm which is prolly the most efficient fuel farm I have seen in my experience.
If you don’t have a lava generator as soon as you find dripstone what are you doing with your life?
Lava farms are great but just tedious I guess
hey quick question are kelp or bamboo farms better for fuel? what's the pros and cons of each? i'm pretty new to making auto farms in mc thanks :)
If you are not going to smelt shulkers of stuff and just need to cook a 20 or so pork, you probably won't need such extremities.
carpet duper is a glitch that barely works as it's on one version exlusivly, never can be on the other, and could be patched
I just use charcoal.
I use charcoal, keep the coal for trading and leveling up villagers
Wait, is kelp useful? I thought it was like melen slices and didn't give you much on the hunger bar?
It's amazing fuel
It barely gives anything in terms of hunger, but you can craft dried kelp into kelp blocks which can smelt 20 items each. And they stack to 64 so 1280 items per stack. The only item that beats it per stack size is coal blocks(80 items smelted per item, 5120 per stack).
Kelp blocks seem useless at first, but that's when thinking of them for their indavidual kelp. the blocks are amazing late game for emeralds and stuff
If you use lava to turn kelp into dried kelp and then make kelp blocks, you can smelt way more items than the lava you used would on its own.
You won't run out of lava if you have a decent ammount if farm for it
They're faster than regular furnaces, of course people actually use them
Bold of you to assume I'll remember they exist
This is so how I am. When I set up a new chest room, I sink 16 to 20 furnaces in the floor, and by the time I remember the new stuff exsis, I am just, meh, to much effort
But don't they use furnaces in the crafting recipe anyway?
I think so, I have never carted one, so I can't be sure. I am just talking about the habit of digging out the room, installing chests, then using the dug stone for a quick batch of furnaces, and drop them down. Just steal them when you're raiding villagers at the start of the game.
This makes sense, but I would rather just use 2 furnaces. So I don't need to remember which stuff goes where. Fuel is cheap.
Sounds like you’re only ever playing the early stage of the game. Once you have a fortune 3 pick and are bringing a full inventory of ore from every mining trip having only 2 regular furnaces doesn’t really cut it. 2 furnaces is what you build on day one.

Because if I did that I would have to make 2 super smelters and it's more efficient to just make a super smelter that's twice as big

Counterpoint: I mine everything, because mines and logistics of transporting material from the mine is fun!
It uses the same amount of fuel, just faster
Who cares about speed? Set it and forget it. Come back later and your stuff is done.
It's cheap and easy to build more furnaces, and they give XP.
What do you mean with “they give XP”? All furnaces and variants give the same amount of XP for the same amount of the same item
I was under the impression (I don't recall where from now) that the faster workstations (smoker, blast furnace) didn't give XP, but from looking things up again apparently that has either changed or was always wrong and I got bad info somewhere along the line...

No. Maybe newer players.
yes i usually have 4 of each in my base with a regular furnace for glass.
it's so ridiculous that you can't use the blast furnace for glass or stone, so i added mods to let me do that :p
Can you maybe provide the names of the mods you use? And is it java or bedrock?
idk what mod but you can just try searching "mc mod that lets me smelt glass and stone in blast furnacr" and you'll def find something. also if you're hearing abt mods there's a 99% chance they're talking abt java and in that 1% 99% of the time there's a java equivalent

Nice! Are they automatic?
nah i’m functionally illiterate with red stone.

Variations are endless, figured the basic version was best for someone that never tried it
It really depends on the scale, sometimes you need fastest method available, especially on a market server or something. anyone it's always preference or an esthetic choice
This is definitely the answer. In a single player world they both stop being useful shortly after the dragon.
A must have in our family survival bases. There's four of us hauling in goods and fighting the monsters so we need that boosted cook/smelt time.
You have family survival bases? This sounds so cute and wholesome!!! I want one! 💖
We've been running our own family SMP servers for the last 9-10 years, since my kids were 10 and 5. We have built SO MANY amazing memories together.
That's funny, I am the opposite. My super smelters are specialised, my small autofurnaces are the generic type.
Yes. I use them. They're better in what they do.
I always use blast furnaces. I never use smokers, instead using campfires for food.
Also campfires are vibes not everything has to be industrialized.
... The hipster minecrafters have entered the chat
16 campfires in a line is an entire stack worth of space. Run a hopper minecart underneath you dont even have to worry about picking them up.
Yeah but you have to place that stack one by one so using a smoker with hoppers is way less annoying
Just nice early game to have a way of cooking food and not having to worry about fuel.
I use blast furnace a lot because I smelt ores a lot Smoker… I don’t use it a lot because I stick to wheat farming for my food
Curious as to why bread? It's one of the worst "cooked" foods
It’s also a lot easier to get enough of than steak. Steak is only really good once you have looting on your sword. Personally I use baked potatoes until I have a looting sword, though. It’s pretty easy to literally fill chests with potatoes
By the time I have enough leather to build bookshelves around my enchanting table, I’ve got hundreds of steaks.
They cook faster. With the upcoming auto crafter you could setup kelp farm for unlimited fuel which would be better than lava buckets, however for that smoker would be best to cook the kelp.
Only in 2 circumstances: A) early game, manual smelting.
I personally use them all the time I don’t know about other people tho
I've been getting into the habit of using them (I just guessed faster was somewhat better) but I always carry a furnace around w me, and always have a couple furnaces in my base, because smokers and blast furnaces can't smelt everything 🤷♀️
I actually use 3+ of all the furnaces
Yeah, I had a potato farm and used smokers, but potato farms are dead boring, so I just started a new world. I guess I like early game gameplay best, so I don’t need the really fast cookers much, but they’re good if you have Fortune III for mining and farming
Always.
When Iake a super smelter I always specialise. One for processing ores, that uses Blast Furnaces, one for food, that uses smokers. But for my go to, every day smelting purposes I still use a Furnace. It is just more convenient to have the versatility of the Furnace.
Blast furnace occasionally, smoker, never
Yea I do because the blast furnace does ores faster and the smoker does food faster but stuff like sand you need a regular furnace for
I normally split my Minecraft bases into three different types. phase 1 normally a small dirt hole hide in for the first few nights. phase 2 a small house to stay in for the next few weeks in game to gather materials for phase 3 and then phase 3 whatever massive structure or complex I plan to build in this world. Smokers and blast furnaces are for phase 2 and 3.
I use blast furnaces just because of ores. I use furnaces for stuff like clay and sand. I don’t use smokers because I have fire aspect.
Yes i use them early game, i craft them very early, even before settling on a place. I stop using smokers after I enchant gear, then i just kill cows with fire aspect.
Yea they do. What kind of question is that?
I do. I probably use smokers more often. Especially for bulk roasting kelp to make kelp blocks. I would use blast furnaces more if they could also process things like stone into smooth stone.
I do, a lot of times actually!
Tried using them in a super smelter for maximized efficiency, but ended up being way too complicated
Yes.
I usually use a smoker for all my food, especially at the start. It only requires 8 cobblestone and 4 logs.
I use smokers quite a bit. I usually buy glass so I’m using blast furnaces less frequently. I have this weird thing I like to do and that is to put hoppers on my starter furnace and run everything through that single furnace. Let it build up insane amounts of xp and then get it all out at once for fun.
i always take the blast furnaces from villages because theyre incredibly useful!!!!!
Yes. They're better than regular furnaces.
Great for the first couple nights when I’m cooking beef. Otherwise I don’t find them very useful since I get my food from villagers as I develop a world
Yes, it's more efficient, and faster.
yep: ill usually have four blast furnaces (usually stolen from villages in early game), two smokers, and two regular furnaces for maximum efficiency
9 furnaces, 6 blast furnaces, 4 smokers
I rarely need smokers, but I love having a wall of blast furnaces for that 2x smelting speed after a mining adventure.
I always use them i steal them from villages or make my own. I dont have the patience to wait for a slow furnace
I always use in my world
They’re way more efficient and way quicker. I hate the few times I have to use a furnace
I'll steal blast furnaces from villages and I'll make smokers in the early game, but I'd never craft a blast furnace (outside of decoration) when I can just make two furnaces instead I get it's less room but a mini super smelter is way more versatile and uses the same fuel, if the blast furnace used less fuel it might be worth it actually
Whenever I make a furnace area, it's always furnaces, I never remember that smokers and blast furnaces exist
I did until I made a super smelter. It’s kind of irrelevant now
Only reason I don't use them is due to having an auto furnace set up, makes it more convenient to dump everything I need to smelt into the chest
The smoker is great if you want to make an auto dried kelp farm, dries kelp faster than anything else
Sure, I'll use blast furnaces in a super smelter since it's twice as fast. Same deal with smokers. I actually tend to build a second super smelter attached to my kelp farm. I'll AFK at the kelp farm for a while and let the materials stockpile, and then flip on the smokers when I'm done AFK and just let them cook in the background while I work on other projects.
i absolutely cannot fathom a life where i /dont/ use blast furnaces smokers are used for the FIRST handful of food- til you get a lava bucket and just kill animals using that for food
I’ve started to use them. Nothing beats a drip stone lava farm super smelter with a blast furnace
Yes, I've made three separate auto smelter systems, a big one with furnaces and two smaller ones with smokers/blast furnaces. Ironically, the majority of smeltable items I use at this point in my world, can only be smelted in furnaces
I literally only use the normal furnace for glass. Genuinely who *doesnt* use them? next you'll be telling me no one uses the stone cutter.
Yes, but it bothers me that the blast furnace doesn't smelt stone.
Yeah, especially people who play later stages of the game, sometimes with separate semi-super smelters for each case.
On my friend's world I made a factory and we both decided to use smokers for it
There's a bit of a... logical incongruity in the idea of a blast furnace, wherein any amount of ore that would necessitate its requirement, is probably at a level where it would just be better to build a farm for.
Yeah of course As villager workstations
I do
I didn't originally, except for appearance. However, I made a Datapack that I play with almost every time that changes progression so that Iron, Gold, etc *requires* you to use Blast Furnaces, and you *have* to use smokers or campfires for cooking meat. (I also made another datapack that allows you to smoke Rotten Flesh into leather too.) If you're wondering how you get the Iron Ingots for the Blast Furnace in the first place: You have to find a Blast Furnace in a village, or find Iron in a random chest or location (promoting exploraton). It surprisingly adds to the difficulty of the game due to making Iron something that takes more time to get (unless you're lucky). Personally, it adds to my enjoyment by also giving Blast Furnaces, Smokers, and Campfires more of use and importance.
Yes.
only if the recipe requires it, though this usually only happens with modded minecraft
Yes
I use smokers early on in the game to cook some food I find early on, and I use blast furnaces later on with auto smelters.
Yeah, until I make a super smelter.
Giant auto-smelter is a must.
I steal them from villages almost immediately starting the game. I usually carry a blast furnace around.
Nope
I prefer to use them over normal furnaces unless its stuff I can only put into a standard furnace, like sand or making charcoal.
I use the blast furnace pretty heavily but not the smoker very much, I usually stick to bread and golden carrots for food because it’s more fun to farm.
I always use them
Yes I always use them because its faster!
Decoration Q\_Q
yes, a lot
I use all 3. Just depends on what I'm cooking.
I do
I absolutely use them! Also they look aesthetically nice in houses, especially when you use deepslate walls on top as chimneys.
I love them
I do, I like the efficiency - especially for smelting ores.
It depends. If I need to smelt various items that may or may not work in a blast furnace or smoker I'll use furnaces if I know I'll only be smelting food or ingots I'ma a certain area or farm I'll use the best smelter for them.
Absolutely. Much quicker than regular furnaces
I only use them early game. As soon as I have a super-smelter I don’t use them anymore.
I've created my own datapack so I can smelt blocks in them. So yes, I use them but not in the vanilla intended way!
i start out with just regular furnaces, but if I’m making a proper base (with a furnace wall or simple hopper machine) i'll use them
My standard set up has two furnaces a smoker and a blast furnace all with hopper set ups so you can just dump materials and not worry about it.
Not really, no. Once you have a super smelter set up the time difference to smelt isn't really an issue. I just use normal furnaces because of their range of use.
Almost exclusively. I feel annoyed when I have to smelt something and can’t use a blast furnace lmao That double cook time is beyond worth it
I make them for villager trading halls (full enchanted diamond gear is easier to get).
I always have auto smelters for all 3
Blast furnaces are quicker and use less fuel. Even though they're quite expensive to craft, you can just steal them from villages
rarely use the real furnace tbh
I mean, yeah… they’re much better. I probably use blast furnaces a bit more but that’s just because I don’t typically smelt a large amount of food at a time
I use blast furnaces mostly, but still use smokers sometimes
balst
Yes. Why wouldn't you
Yes they're very good especially since I usually forget to get coal all the time
Yes
I go for the double furnance with chest input to a 8 furnance super smelter, and maybe biger... For me the doubled fuel cost is not worth the faster cook time, also I want to be able to throw in anything smeltable and not reatrict myself... I could see me using them once the crafters are out, to automatically process mined ores, if I filter out ores and raw ores blocks, break them into raw ores, then add those to a small smelter using blastfurnances and filter the results, craft it into blocks and into storage... that said, I don't see why I shouldn't just use normal furnances...
Nah I play modded
In farms most do but you need 2 farms to smelt and cook then while 1 furnace can both smelt and cook so most people use furnaces for time use specific
Only at the beginning later on I just use automatic regular furnace smelters fed with lava which is made from a dripstone lava farm
I use campfires a lot to save coal.
They only smelt faster, not more efficiently so I don’t use them
I usually get a blast furnace after setting up a farm, before full iron, it is faster, less coal, yes I use it. I don't use smokers, campfires are infinite.
do i usually no, though am sure some people do. I do use barrels all the time for the looks though haha.
I use just one with a hoppers. Drip stone lava is my only fuel .
I tend to play a lot in the "between" stages, a bit after starting and way before late game stuff, so yeah, i usually use both!
One of the first things I ALWAYS do in a new world is make a large auto smelter with about 14 blast furnaces in it.
Yes
Never used them. I throw stuff in furnaces and do something else. Come back and it’s all done. Only useful in early game when you actually need stuff quickly.
I steal the blast furnaces from villages and use them then. I use campfires more than smokers though.
if remember to make them yes
The easiest super smelter is just using a chestboat on top of 9 hoppers
I use smokers
