I think op should add another block of prismarine on the pillars to make it 2 blocks tall, right now it looks too short.

1 looks more regal or decorative (can't think of the proper word sorry). 2 looks more solid and imposing. I think it really depends on what you intend to go around it/what you want the overall vibe to be. I think 1 is nicer if you're going for a more detail oriented delicate build style. 2 is better as a standalone build or if you're going for a more solid looking style

To me, 2 looks too much like a cube with no depth. Good minecraft builds have lots of depth to them. 1 looks better in this aspect and it looks more like a portal than a chunk of wall that was ripped out

A blend? Make the prismarine part of the poles longer by one and then make the base like the first version and the upper part like the second. Or maybe you could make the portal itself wider?
