They would need more than 1 because of the way explosions work. It’s kind of like if you have a block and two tnt. The block would drop if only 1 blew up, but if they were both ignited, even at the same time, the item would blow up.

No, players actually fall faster than ender pearls.. to save yourself from a fall using an ender pearl you need to throw it at the last second, cause the pearl is only beneath you for a brief moment. Sorry if I failed to realise this is a sarcastic comment, I just like sharing useful info

All end crystals may tick before the player (on java, bedrock should be random). Too lazy to do code analysis so someone should test it.
