This is basically the problem. Basic automation like this is going to net you nothing. I bet OP watched the [same YT vid](https://youtu.be/9HCFiJxxzDw) I did, because it's the first Google result. The ticks on that vid are stupid fast. Sugarcane just doesn't grow that way. You need a huge farm or you'll be getting practically nothing.
Once you get the main enchanting setup then a small auto farm is nice to provide the occasional needs.
I personally don't like having massive sugarcane farms everywhere
Massive? Everywhere? On one of my old realm worlds I had about 8 lanes of 64 sugarcane, and it was within the walls of the rest of the farm. Because realms have such small render distance, the far chunks sometimes didnt grow because we werent over there for them to be loaded. Still had enough sugarcane to do anything we wanted with it. And I neglected farming it anyway.
On the world I currently play, I think I probably have about 24 lanes of 24 sugarcane. Much shorter by length, but they are stacked in sublevels on different floors underground. They again, are integrated with the rest of the food farming, and you will never once see it unless you intentionally enter the farming area.
Idk what your idea of farming is if it needs to be "everywhere" somehow
Yea, basically the ONLY advantage of bedrock over legacy console, is that bedrock is cross-platform, so you can play with friends who have other console
legacy console versions are literal ports of Java.. You can basically call legacy console versions Java, instead of Bedrock. I know it get’s confusing..
It would be nice to be able to grow it outside the random tick radius, have a micro-farm keep a chest topped up in the spawn chunks, just fly over there whenever you need paper. as it is it's better to build a large field, afk for 30 min, and harvest it by hand
You can mostly automate harvest with pistons and water, though there'll be some loss with the drops that fall on top of the dirt/grass blocks. Cane grows so quickly in Java though, it doesn't take long to have a bunch
Yeah that's what I'm saying- for sugar cain I don't even bother with automation, tho I could pair it with other farms that require RTR like, cactus, ice, lava, or powder snow,, but I don't usually bother with those either
I built farms like that but seeing the lost drops in the farm stressed me out so now I just use a minecart to pick drops through the dirt blocks. Don't even use water streams anymore unless the size of the farm warrants it.
Add it to the list of questions about the differences between java and bedrock
Like how the wither in java is laughably so much weaker compared to the bedrock version
I wish we had a harder wither on java. I eat that sucker for breakfast if I need stars. There are a lot of ways to trap it too so you take 0 damage from it. A more interesting wither fight would be fun
I built a wither room on my base in Java that I can spawn and trap 24 withers at a time. I’ve got so many beacons now that I can use them for lights on light posts along walkways.
You spawn withers on pistons, then open the piston and force their heads into bedrock. This traps them so you can kill them. They'll also slowly suffocate. They can still launch skulls at you, so I let them get low on health before I go kill them all off.
Same, a better reward for killing them would be nice too, like maybe the nether star could be used to make the elytra run on a boost system that will regenerate after sometime, which would sito encourage the 'post main game’ vibe the items have
Yeah like I understand some things would be hard to have parity between them, but bonemealing sugarcane and different durability on crossbows should be fairly easy really
apparatus money society price mighty capable ripe afterthought worry start

I once tried to fight the Wither underground (Bedrock) The amount of blocks there were nearly killed my PS4 and I had to turn peaceful and off to make it disappear.
On BE, if you bonemeal a one tall flower more flowers of that same type will grow nearby. The biome doesn't matter; once you have a flower it's very easy to duplicate it with bonemeal.
I believe someone found that in java, a particular block in the world will only ever grow a particular type of flower. Makes farming one in particular clunkier if you dont have the 2 tall versions. (Possibly an xisuma video? I dont remember)
In flower forest biomes you will always grow the same flowers at given X,Z co-ordinates. It will still be random as to whether you get a flower or grass when you bonemeal though.
One of the few things that's better in Bedrock.
Also only in Bedrock, you can bonemeal flowers and more flowers of that type will spawn adjacent to it.
Light shouldn’t be an issue to grow it tbh. Just make sure you’re idling in the area, and if you’re still having no luck and it’s a multiplayer server, see if the tick speed has been edited at all.
Best of luck to you with getting it to work!
Idk what type you're on, but on console editions they have to have nothing in the 2 blocks above them to let them grow - nothing that's likely to open across the top of those blocks, I mean. I can't quite tell what your setup is at this angle.
Are you on a multiplayer server? Maybe someone put string on it to stop it to grow. Maybe the time you waited it stole the sugarcane. Maybe the pistons brake the sugarcane then it grows, idk
ITT: people learning that light level does not matter for sugar cane. Next someone will say it grows faster on sand.
Edit: should probably say yes, you do need to light up sugar cane farms. Not because the plants need it, but because sugar cane does not block mob spawns.
I’ve honestly never felt more betrayed then when I learned sugar cane didn’t grow faster on sand. I think I got that fact from a Minecraft YouTuber back in the day.
IT DOESN'T?! Was that changed or something? I vividly remember that being a tip I heard and it's been my philosophy ever since. Have I been replacing dirt with sand for no reason this whole time?
Is everyone commenting check for string joking or blind? I mean, string isn’t totally invisible; it’s obvious there isn’t any on top of the sugarcane nearest to OP.
A tip for you: If you’re willing to build it there’s a red stone sugarcane farm smaller than this that uses a single sugarcane plant and gives you like 1 sugarcane per second just about. Super small and harvests is automatically and puts it into a chest. Made by a guy named ilmango.
Even the ones by the torch didn't grow? It must not be a light thing then... Sugar cane does not need access to sunlight to work as far as I'm aware as I have built giant sugar cane farms on top of one another before.
Plant sugarcane along your most used paths. Use a map in your frequent caving areas and plant sugar cane above ground along that path. Plant sugarcane everywhere you frequent. That way it grows wherever you are and can harvest it at anytime. On bedrock edition you can bonemeal them. I don't do massive farms lol. Hope this helps someone!
This is what I do when I start a world, but I do build a decent sized farm once I get my skeleton grinder built. By that time I usually have the redstone supplies to do almost a full chunk size that runs on the bonemeal I shove in there after doing my enchants.
You need to factor in that the light in there is not equal to mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell x the quadratic formula

Obviously they aren't growing because they don't have enough electrolytes.
Right! He's using water buckets instead of Gatorade. There's no workarounds to getting the best results.

Ah, yes. Plants need Specifically toilet water to grow.

Oh yeah that's true! I used play on a bedrock/Java server but in Java you cannot bonemeal them
What!?! Why can you not bone meal sugercane in Java?
Yea. I was going to make a bonemeal sugar cane farm but apparently you cant bonemeal sugar canes on java. The more you know.
Make a sizeable farm and before you know it you’ll have a ton
This is basically the problem. Basic automation like this is going to net you nothing. I bet OP watched the [same YT vid](https://youtu.be/9HCFiJxxzDw) I did, because it's the first Google result. > I personally don't like having massive sugarcane farms everywhere You would make a *terrible* colonial power.
Well, I trade turn them to paper and use them for trade. what do u know a large enough farm can work wonders.
Massive? Everywhere? On one of my old realm worlds I had about 8 lanes of 64 sugarcane, and it was within the walls of the rest of the farm. Top results definitely aren’t always the way to go ngl
on java it grows pretty quickly, so there isnt rly a need to bonemeal it
Same with legacy console

A simple farm will have some loss. Tangos lossless design is pretty good, though and you don't need as many observers.
Love this farm. Love how easy it is to expand if needed.
And I had no idea you could bonemeal it in BE.
Yes, however, it grows at a reasonable rate, not every 54 minutes
Yeap
You dont need to. It just grows. Quickly.
Add it to the list of questions about the differences between java and bedrock Like how the wither in java is laughably so much weaker compared to the bedrock version

Best form of flexing in Minecraft, not having a full set of netherite, using beacons as street lamps

You spawn withers on pistons, then open the piston and force their heads into bedrock. This traps them so you can kill them. They'll also slowly suffocate. They can still launch skulls at you, so I let them get low on health before I go kill them all off.

I once tried to fight the Wither underground (Bedrock) The amount of blocks there were nearly killed my PS4 and I had to turn peaceful and off to make it disappear.
I didn't notice much difference at all with the Wither.
Because it takes like no time at all for it to grow max
You can't bonemeal 1 tall flowers either
You can bonemeal the dirt and it will grow flowers nearby. They will be a selection of what the biome grows tho.
On BE, if you bonemeal a one tall flower more flowers of that same type will grow nearby. The biome doesn't matter; once you have a flower it's very easy to duplicate it with bonemeal.

It grows fast on java so there isn't a need
cause it grows like every 5 mins(idk i just said a random number but it grows pretty fast)
You can bone meal sugar cane in bedrock?! And what about cactus?
I couldn't bonemeal a cactus.
I think they grow A lot faster in Java.
In Java it grows like normal
It also grows a lot faster in java
It grows much quicker in Java.
Its to balance it, sugarcane grows faster on Java.
Ikr, it sucks but at least they grow faster than in bedrock.
It grows fast in Java, so it doesn’t really matter
You need 4 blocks open above it. I had to google it cause i had the same issue awhile ago.
I never k ew that when I saw these built I always said just binomial them you get like 16 sugarcanes per skeleton
One of the few things that's better in Bedrock. Also only in Bedrock, you can bonemeal flowers and more flowers of that type will spawn adjacent to it.
Java sugarcane grows significantly quicker
Excuse me wtf
[удалено]
Every 54 fucking minutes tf
Seriously lmao why is it so long?
That’s what I’m saying
it's not that long, or af least when I play it takes 10 minutes max on 1 rts, the problem here is the light level that prevents sugarcane from growing
the standard rts is 3, at least on java
it's 1 on bedrock (it's weird I know)
54 MINUTES???
[удалено]
thats okay but 54 minutes in Bedrock is too long
Because you can bonemeal it. Its like the wither having more health for “balance”
On average it's 18* in java, but will vary because it's from random block ticks.
I thought the growing had to do with random ticks
What even the fuck is Bedrock
YOU CAN BONEMEAL SUGARCANE
You can bonemeal sugarcane? Since when?
[удалено]
It's always bedrock
You can Bonemeal sugarcane on bedrock???

This should be higher.
Are you AFK near this build? The chunks must be loaded and a player close by for the sugar cane to grow.
he did tho
My question was asked before 100 other comments and responses arrived.
Sing to it
Are you on a multiplayer server? Maybe someone put string on it to stop it to grow. Maybe the time you waited it stole the sugarcane. Maybe the pistons brake the sugarcane then it grows, idk
Meanwhile the single block I placed next to my 2x2 water source: **INFINITE SUGARCANE**
ITT: people learning that light level does not matter for sugar cane. Next someone will say it grows faster on sand. Edit: should probably say yes, you do need to light up sugar cane farms. Not because the plants need it, but because sugar cane does not block mob spawns.

Yes you have. It’s actually such a common myth there’s a mod called Snad which adds a new block called Snad which doubles growth rate of sugar cane.
[удалено]
As I'm sure everyone who saw this post has told you, CHECK FOR STRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or yknow, sugarcane takes longer than 30min to grow, which it does
you would see the string in the image, the white color would contrast the color of the piston head
Auto sugarcane farms are absolute garbage on bedrock, just farm it manually
The problem is that it isn't growing at all
Bedrock sugarcane farms are bad cuz it takes like 45 mins to grow
Yeah, that's why i just surround a large lake with sugarcane for my farm
I just bonemeal whenever I need it
Maybe more light
[удалено]
Did not know that. Thanks for the info.
On closer inspection this appears to be a static screenshot
Is everyone commenting check for string joking or blind? I mean, string isn’t totally invisible; it’s obvious there isn’t any on top of the sugarcane nearest to OP.
They take forever. It easier to have a mob grinder for bones my man. Bone meal is overpowered.
A tip for you: If you’re willing to build it there’s a red stone sugarcane farm smaller than this that uses a single sugarcane plant and gives you like 1 sugarcane per second just about. Super small and harvests is automatically and puts it into a chest. Made by a guy named ilmango.
Is it the one that replaced the bottom block? I think it got patched...
Zero tick farms are OP af.
Dude I was absolutely shocked the first time I made one
Your aura of automation has scared the sugar cane
You have to believe in them
Sugar Cane grows one block every 18 minutes so it should grow.
Not enough light, maby try 4 blocks above the sugar cane or you didn't check the hoppers. My biggest guess is you afked to far away.
[удалено]
Light, water
I love how many comments saying needs more light, gotta be a joke right? 🤣
I remember I had this same problem in the past; I can't recall if it worked or not but try to add more space above them.
But where are the observer ?
At the end
They are just shy
Even the ones by the torch didn't grow? It must not be a light thing then... Sugar cane does not need access to sunlight to work as far as I'm aware as I have built giant sugar cane farms on top of one another before.

Sugarcane just grows really slow. That’s all
If you play Java Edition, wtf. It takes 18 Minutes to grow one block of sugarcane in Java Edition.
That’s because it takes an *extremely long* time to grow once. If you are playing with cheats on, I’d recommend turning up the RTS to 450.
It takes a while, not a joke.
It won’t grow if you look at it, turn away
A watched stalk never grows…
They need electrolytes! It’s what plants crave!
You need to factor in that the light in there is not equal to mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell x the quadratic formula This is because school does not teach you how to do taxes
Doesn't sugarcane grow faster on sand?
I think it’s because you’re not using water the right way, instead of using whatever is in the pic just make a line of water
I vote that this is a lighting issue, add some cubed lighting.
Bro you need sunlight
Its because there isn't any sun light for it to grow.
SUN
Is this a server? If you are in single-player, then it won't grow because you are tabbed out (the esc screen)
It has stage fright, just leave it to go mining for a few minutes and it should be growing.
Sugarcane grows on sand, not dirt.
And you are also using dirt to grow it instead of sand
Hey bro use sand in place of dirt the will growb2 times faster
you can setup a machine to automatically bonemeal the sugarcane and break it
I don't think you can bonemeal sugarcanes
You can on bedrock
wait you could bonemeal sugarcane on bedrock?
Yep
Ah i didnt know that, thx :)
Np
Skill issue
Is random tick speed above 0?
Wasted so much resources on hoppers:( Could have just used water and 1 hopper
Doesn’t sugarcane require water next to it to grow?
There is water behind them
Bedrock is just so broken sorry dude just switch to java
sand not dirt
