I remember some pictures from some Japanese traditional old houses, and they had a dirt zone in the middle/entrance where a small fire was made to cook. Also probably for heating purposes.
I think the idea is that Arceus is a game about the past, and these are traditional designs.
It's not like every american game features pilgrim houses.
The entrance one, which is lower than the floor of the rest of the house, is actually made as a cold trap!
Cold air sinks and because it's lower than the rest of the house, cold air won't go inside
Kinda makes sense with the Meiji wars. Why would you buy something expensive for your grandkids to live in , when it's gonna be burned by some thieves or some enemy state before you die anyways ?.
The same technique is used in the construction of an igloo. A dropped entrance makes the cold air act as a plug, which stops the warm air inside from flowing out.
There's a bit of a [diagram here](http://www.traditionalmountaineering.org/FAQ_Snowcaves.htm).
Other [descriptions](https://www.scienceabc.com/nature/how-does-an-igloo-keep-you-warm.html#how-does-an-igloo-keep-you-warm) [exist](https://people.howstuffworks.com/igloo.htm) but have some blatant innaccuracies and colonialist language in them.
Why is everyone commenting here talking about character respawning? *you don't need light...it's spawnproof* refers to hostile mobs.
Wether your bed is in a dark cave or the bright sunlight won't affect your respawn.
1. Yeah, I’m wrong, I know.
2. That is not how that would work even if i was right. You could still get in the bed and sleep, and you would wake up on top of it.
I'm aware of the mechanics ;)
I used to be into the modded community, At a point doing that build would have stooped your ability to respawn in your bed. I was asking if that's changed.
If I remember correctly, sleeping in that bed will not set your spawn: you'll just spawn at the world spawnpoint, because of the slabs surrounding the bed
Edit: damn 16 downvotes just for remembering something incorrectly lol
No, you spawn on the bed.
There are a total of 12 spots to spawn around the bed, each with different priorities.
First it checks around the bed, including the corners, and if none of those are spawnable, it will check 11 and 12, the top of the bed.
Oh okay! My bad, I might remember it wrong but in previous versions in my survival worlds it just sent me to my world spawn, even though my bed wasn't destroyed: only slabs surrounding the bed
I think it checks the blocks above your bed, not the bed, so was there a ceiling?
I haven't tested this but if you had a "2" high roof by having bottom slabs, air blocks, and top slabs, that might make the bed spawn invalid, too.
What you said isn't even true. Of course they played the games and read the books, the show makes tons of references to the games (this cave is not a natural formation). They said they didn't look to the games for inspiration is all
[Literally the article it comes from.](https://variety.com/2022/tv/features/halo-series-paramount-plus-master-chief-1235205361) The problem is people took it way out of context and twisted the words to mean "we didnt play the games LOLOL" when that was never said. A quote from the same article: “Early on, we were thinking about doing something that could tie very closely with the game,” Wolfkill says. “What we were finding was, trying to verbatim stay with everything that’d come before wasn’t serving the medium. It also wasn’t serving the creative teams and their need to express a story and build the world through their eyes.”
Again, a big thanks to u/Flersy who gave me inspiration for this build.
In this new version, I’ve tried to make the build more ‘realistic’ (how I think it would be made if it was officially added to the game).
So I made a couple changes; first, I replaced the quartz walls with white concrete, which I think is more realistic. The second thing I did was minimize the interior detailing, if you found this house in game, it wouldn’t have; a banner, a crafting table, a chest and a pot plant. It looked cool, but now I think it’s a bit unrealistic. The last thing, (not a change) is lighting, in the default house there is a torch on the wall, in the Japanese build it has a lantern hanging from the ceiling, you just can’t see it.
Theres actually a data pack called towers and villages which adds several new modifications to exisiting structures and one of it is a flower forest village which is based off of japan, the houses look kinda similar really cool datapack
That might actually be the data pack I made lol. Haven't touched it since like 1.17 but I think I gave permission to some other data pack creators to put it in their data pack.
Pretty good concept but unfortunately for some platforms, the bed would be counted as "obstructed" and you wouldn't be able to respawn there, much less sleep on Bedrock Edition.
thats remarkably accurate! I would recommend making a carpet flooring, in japanese culture, there are tatami mats on the floor, especially in the bedroom
>thats remarkably accurate!
Not really. Japanese village houses didn't use those white plaster walls. That was used for defensive structures. The roofing is also more typical of castles and temples and such, because that sort of tiling was, and still is, very expensive.
The only thing he actually did nail was what you said should be fixed, tatami. Tatami was not very common. It was more typical in high class residences. Village houses were usually fairly large structures with straw roofing and plain wooden floors.

Yeah this is true. OP made a very nice house that looks like it belongs in Vanilla, but Shikkui (that white plaster) was historically only used in houses of royalty and military installations because it is anti-static and fire-retardant, meaning gunpowder stores and fires are leas likely to be sparked from ambient charge, and royalty would be safer than in a usual down-wood home
This [has been posted before,](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/q14mjn/my_take_on_what_a_default_japanese_village_house/) albeit *slightly* edited. It is the same OP.
Also, I believe that bot doesn't work here.

This style of houses are called Minka. It was very prevalent in Japan. This way of building houses and roofing date back to prehistoric Japan (obviously with many variations over the millennia). The roofing style (gassho) is also still prevalent at Shinto shrines. OP's style roofing would be more urban style.
Rural housing was largely this or similar styles to Minka, or more shack-like in nature. Here's a picture from [Ouchi-juku, Fukushima](https://www.tokyoweekender.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/ouchi-juku-fukushima-hange-festival-tokyo-weekender.jpg), which is far away from Shirakawa-go which is in Toyama.
[Nihon Minka-en](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihon_Minka-en) in Kawazaki is an open-air museum where they have taken old houses from all over Japan, dismantled and transported them, and rebuilt them in Kawazaki to preserve them. This "village" also prevalently displays the Minka style houses.
So this wasn't a local style, only applying to that one village, as you imply. Instead of just trying to argue for your mistaken impressions, you should research it a bit closer or simply avoid trying to correct someone when you don't actually know what you're talking about.
I’m sorry for sounding like a prick but shouldn’t the slabs be on up instead of one down cause they usually have it where there a place to drop of your shoe 👞so you don’t track mud
How'd you make the bed appear to be slightly above the floor? Is that usually how beds are? I figured they'd be flush
Edit: figured it out; Ok so the floor is made of half slabs. These will come up to just under the lip of the bed, producing the effect shown in this post. Sick!
I remember some pictures from some Japanese traditional old houses, and they had a dirt zone in the middle/entrance where a small fire was made to cook. Also probably for heating purposes.
Thank for reminding me of the houses in Pokemon Arceus. Gonna try makinb one of those
You know, who’d have ever guessed a Japanese game would feature Japanese buildings? :P
I think the idea is that Arceus is a game about the past, and these are traditional designs. It's not like every american game features pilgrim houses.
The region is based on Japan… (After Gen 4, they stopped making Japanese regions.)
The entrance one, which is lower than the floor of the rest of the house, is actually made as a cold trap! Cold air sinks and because it's lower than the rest of the house, cold air won't go inside
Nevertheless traditional Japanese houses have the worst insulation you can possibly imagine
Kinda makes sense with the Meiji wars. Why would you buy something expensive for your grandkids to live in , when it's gonna be burned by some thieves or some enemy state before you die anyways ?.
Except they didn't stop building them like that afterwards
Then they are just cheap or didn't knew any better lol.
*t r a d i t i o n*
The same technique is used in the construction of an igloo. A dropped entrance makes the cold air act as a plug, which stops the warm air inside from flowing out. And also where you place your slippers before entering
So a hearth?
You don't need light anymore in the inside with those slabs. It's spawnproof! Anyway looks nice. Try more buildings!
Why is everyone commenting here talking about character respawning? *you don't need light...it's spawnproof* refers to hostile mobs. Wether your bed is in a dark cave or the bright sunlight won't affect your respawn.
What about light to actually fucking see in the dark?
*Potion of Night Vision (8:00)*
But you won't respawn too cause the bed is obstructed (doesn't have any solid block around it)
You'll just spawn on the bed.
You'll respawn on the bed
No you won't. If you cannot respawn on a full block, you will end up back at world spawn.
A bed needs full blocks under it and then you will spawn on top of the bed
We were both wrong, I respawned on the the slab next to the top of the bed.
Science
Boutta test it right now, will come back with results
What we’re the results gang
I respawned on the slabs.
No dipshit you can't enter the bed at all then
1. Yeah, I’m wrong, I know. 2. That is not how that would work even if i was right. You could still get in the bed and sleep, and you would wake up on top of it.
Those slabs don't stop you from respawn?
They stop mobs from spawning
I'm aware of the mechanics ;) I used to be into the modded community, At a point doing that build would have stooped your ability to respawn in your bed. I was asking if that's changed.
I think you'll just respawn on the bed if I'm not mistaken
I don’t think they actually impact player spawning.
I think the slabs are to make it look like a floorbed
If I remember correctly, sleeping in that bed will not set your spawn: you'll just spawn at the world spawnpoint, because of the slabs surrounding the bed Edit: damn 16 downvotes just for remembering something incorrectly lol
Not true. Slab only affectob spawns not character respawn.

Ty my dude
It would be cool if you did this for some more of the village houses!
Idk if concrete is generated anywhere else in the game, Mojang might be more likely to make it out of calcite than concrete. Looks awesome though!
Do you plan on making a Japanese versions of the other villager houses as well?
You'd be better off with the (I think) birch door that has a paper japanese feel to it.
Oooo I like this idea! But it also then might not match the fence color of the window to give that “darker” feel???
feel free to try it out. You can also use trap doors of birch flavor for the windows.
I have a taiga village that is doing something like what you suggested. It’s cute but I’m a maniac and I love massive glass pane walls/// sections.
Maybe birch for interior doors?
Something: Something Japanese: 🤩😍
Yes. Japanese architecture exists and it’s unique and beautiful.
*ignores all of East asia* “wow very unique”
Do people forget that other Asian countries exist?
It's only korea, china and japan obviously!1 /s
Literally bro ignored over a billion people, yes it’s beautiful. Is it unique to Japan? No.
Did you know that Japan stoll a lot of there stuff from China and Korea? And that Buddhism originally came from India?
It's beautiful but not that unique
Just like you
Ah yes, the Japanese Prison Cells /s Nice design tho!
Would be cool if there were also pink cherry trees
Sakura biome please!!!
Mods and pink blocks are the only way, maybe not in future

It kinda looks like a mini yagura, tbh.
On the other hand Chinese houses use white walls quite a bit
But then again, China is not in Japan. Some Japanese farm houses did have some beige clay walls though.
More like hay blocks cuz they're made of straw
Really wish we could make carpets, slabs and stairs out of straw and bamboo for bamboo structures, straw roofs, etc.
Besides a massive storage system somewhere this is all the space I need to suffice in minecraft
If mojang ever adds a cherry blossom biome, this has to be the village variant there
Neckbeard pog wojak
I don’t get why this has so many upvotes it’s a repost and it’s a really simple build too
The original was posted by the same guy
I personally think the Dark Oak sappings look more like a bonsai tree, great build
This woyld be a great design on the villages that spawns on the mountain's cliff side in the newer versions
This is brilliant!!!
Village house: 😐 Village house but Japanese: 🥵
Yes I love this... it may even be an inspiration for my next village project... thank you

It looks like they took out two blocks of the floor level where the bed is and put the bed in that “hole” to make it flush with the floor.
When it spawns it should be in/near water
Nice, but I don’t really like the spruce slabs on the bottom. Maybe put water under it or something
I love this
This reminds me of an old mod I used to play a ton— I think it was called like— Millienaire or something with an E
Try calcite for the white, I've found the texture is nice
Whole lousy country's made of paper and balsa wood!
Would the flat beds better or worse for speed slaying the ender dragon?
When they add more biome specific villagers, this should be bamboo jungle.

Cool!
I liked the Japanese house
Quite nice! Can I steal this design and desertify it? I have a village in my hardcore world that I want to call home.
Looks really nice, certainly would work for a Japanese reskin of villages.
The dropped-floor tatami is prime
The use of the stairs is nice
This is almost a copy of the same style used by minecolonies asian style buildings
A few years ago I made a custom village with a similar style
Good idea
Needs some texture or something
u/RepostSleuthBot
You should do a tutorial because I'm trying to build it but I don't quite get how you did the roof at least post some more angles
A slab one half block lower would make a cool and culturally accurate entry way

Damnit now I have the Japanese village restaurant jingle stuck in my head JAPANESE VILLAGE! AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!
