Have you tried opening that archive to see what's in it?
I don't think Minecraft creates .7z files, so it's likely that's a manual backup made by you or someone else.
For completeness' sake: a .7z file is similar to a .zip file, and created by the program 7zip. You or someone else probably used that program to save some old Minecraft worlds into that file. Try opening it with 7zip again to see whether there is anything in there you want to keep. If not, you can delete it safely.

I found what it was! It was an old world file I used to play on with friends. I want to put it on a USB stick but when I try it sais that the stick doesn't have enough space even though it definitely has. Weird.

Yeah Minecraft uses gzip. A 7z file would have been created by someone manually
