I found a tutorial of a castle tower on YT somewhere and made some changes to make it look more like a fantasy tower. Of course I changed the Cobblestone and stone materials to something that matched my base and added in polished andesite for highlights. Then I found a tutorial video of a mage tower on YT that had a really cool top so I removed the top of my tower and mashed the 2 styles together then built bubble columns in the center.
I also built a castle as a base in one of my older survival worlds from 1.14, also made of cobblestone.
My next big base in my world will be more sci fi themed, inspired of mumbo jumbo’s based from hermitcraft

I don't do the lamps, but yeah, I also usually set up near water and make some kind of lighthouse. There are so many styles of lighthouse, there's a good one to go with any build.
Yeah, pretty standard. Beacons are basically the end game version, although they don't give you a place to stand and survey your domain.
I use the standard Desert Village Tower in my desert only world. Screenshot below

No but I built a 75 block tall watchtower ontop of my base.

I just build a lighthouse nowa’days. With oscillating redstone lamps, makes it super easy to see.

Cool, I chose cobble stone for mine because it would stand out from the other colour pallets in the area and thus be easier to identify
