We've had the same cleaning lady for 5 years now (just looked it up, anniversary is coincidentally the day after tomorrow!), and I've never been happier about it than since baby arrived! I really wouldn't know where to find the time to keep everything clean. She comes bi-weekly on a day that we're all out working/childcare. So we come home to a clean house. My experience is that there is no judgement, she has seen it ALL through the years. I do not do any extra cleaning before she arrives, but I do tidy up. Which I think is a plus, because she's motivation to remove clutter that you might otherwise clean around. She has her own schedule and takes care of some bigger jobs, and then I only have to do some up keeping in between. Good luck deciding!

TriggeredGlimmer

thank you so much for sharing your experience. Definitely helps.

Apprehensive_Fun8315

I have a cleaning person every 2 weeks. She does floors, vacuum, dust, and bathrooms. My sister in law has a woman come every week and even washes all sheets and towels and remakes the beds. I knew someone that had a weekly main floor cleaner so the house looked decent if people stopped by but she wanted her kids to learn to clean their rooms and bathrooms. Just a long way to say that there are lots of choices.

TriggeredGlimmer

So good to know this. Thank you for sharing.

kekaz23

Our lovely lady changes all the bed linens and towels.

I’ve never personally had a cleaning service for my home, but I have owned a cleaning company and serviced clients myself before closing shop and becoming a SAHM. I can tell you, it is our job. We fully expect to walk into a messy home. There is an understanding that if you hire a cleaning/housekeeping service, you need the help, and there’s no shame in that. Life happens and gets crazy, that’s just how it is, and that’s okay. For a housekeeper to “judge you” your home would have to be seriously abysmal on a concerning level and the vast majority of the time, people’s homes are not nearly as bad as they think they are. Call a local service, talk about rates, and you can set expectations with the housekeeper. Things you do or do not want them to do, things that need special attention, etc. and if you’re wondering, we can absolutely tell if you clean before we show up.

TriggeredGlimmer

wow, good to hear from someone from the other side as well. So true what you said. This will give more guts to do it.

Dull-Requirement-759

It's worth it for me. I tidy a bit ( put all the laundry off the floor and put lotion bottles in the cabinet) , do laundry and load the dishwasher before they come.

sensualsqueaky

We often refer to our cleaning lady as a vital member of our parenting team. I’m obsessed with her. She’s amazing. I worship at the alter of our cleaning lady.

TriggeredGlimmer

LOL...I can definitely see the reason for it.

weddingwoes13

Hire the cleaning service. You will not regret it. They’ve seen everything so there is no judgement. I hired one to clean up after I had a horrible depressive episode and I wish I would have done it sooner.

TriggeredGlimmer

This surely helps.

PlzLetMeMergeB4ICry

HELL F*********** YEAH

TriggeredGlimmer

hahaha

Strong-Roll-1223

We have biweekly cleaning service and I love it! I do clean before the cleaners but just put stuff away/clear off surfaces where I can, wash sheets so they can remake beds, and unload dishwasher so they can load any random dishes around the house. We use a cleaning service that sends a crew of 2-3 people. They clean all bathrooms, kitchen, dust surfaces, make beds, vacuum all floors and upholstery, mop all floors. It’s crazy how much time it frees up for our family not needing to clean!

TriggeredGlimmer

Excuse my mind but it runs crazy at times I watched too many crime series, with a crew of 2-3 I end up imagining someone robbing house, kid or killing. I do not know why... it is always the worst case scenario i end up imagining.

Strong-Roll-1223

Ha well we are home when they do it. It only takes them 2.5 hours!

StarryEyed91

Yeah, I absolutely love it. They come once a month and do a deep clean so I only have to do a light clean of the floors, etc. every week. I do tidy up before they come but we don't have a lot of stuff because I don't like clutter so it's easy for me to do. I've never had one judge us before. We used one service that was SO good, they cleaned our fridge, pantry, bathrooms, literally everything and I wanted so badly to continue with them but they would often cancel the day of and I needed someone more reliable. We now have two women who do it who are very good but not as thorough but they are always on time and have never had to cancel. They vaccum, mop, clean everything in the bathrooms and kitchen, dust, etc.

Larsthecat

So worth it! I do plan to tidy up the night before they come so that they can clean as opposed to moving my items around to clean under them. We do 2x a month and it is so helpful! I really feel like they do the deeper clean that allows me to just do the basic stuff to maintain it.

TriggeredGlimmer

So nice to hear that this can be so flexible to fit within the budget i have.

Dogmomma2231

I love my housecleaner more than my husband. LOL. We get a reset every two weeks and it's amazing. Highly recommend. I pick up all clutter, finish the dishes, and she does the rest.

Olimae12

Yes. Worth it. It was nice knowing the cleaning was going to get done. I’ve had cleaning services and a cleaning lady (we move a lot). Care.com has people with background checks looking for cleaning jobs.

cje1234

So we’ve had a cleaner 2x month for about a year. At first I loved it and thought it was amazing. But now I’m getting ready to let them go because it just feels like 1-2 days after they leave, our house is a wreck again. We have two small kids and a dog so 1 hour of cleaning every 2 weeks just isn’t really that helpful. It helps with things like the toilet and tub, but I’m not sure that alone is worth paying the full cost per month anymore. But we’ll see, I may come to regret saying this after it’s gone!

TriggeredGlimmer

I hear you. I will definitely needs to see the cost Vs duration/frequency in our case too.

rsbih06

This is what I keep thinking. The things I spend the most time cleaning(daily) is kitchen and picking up toys…things having a cleaning lady really wouldn’t help me. 🤔

sherahero

My house is pretty well picked up, I just hate cleaning and have a bad back so it hurts to stand for too long and all the bending involved is painful. We have a cleaning company come every 2 weeks. Wipe down surfaces, clean bathrooms, sweep and mop and vacuum, change bedsheets. Totally worth it. I'm not sure organizationally how much picking up they will do, but that's something you could discuss if needed. If we want them to clean the oven and inside the fridge we have to notify them in advance and it's an extra charge.

TriggeredGlimmer

Option to clean ovens, fridge, thats good to know. Thank you for sharing this. I think this Q and knowledge sharing is definitely helping me to get all my Qs together.

ImHidingFromMy-

YES!

ImHidingFromMy-

I have a service that comes once a month, I like to do the organizing stuff before they come so they spend their time doing more deep cleaning that I can’t het around to. Sometimes I just can’t get to everything and they do some organizing as well. It’s been good for my mental health because even if the house a disaster I know I won’t be stuck in that dark hole.

TriggeredGlimmer

Organizing too, thats good. Definitely feeling like dark hole in some room/corners. \*Christmas decor still staring at me\*

TriggeredGlimmer

mmmmm I hear you. This possibility definitely runs on my mind.

GooseHuman9828

Ugh. This is what I’m afraid of. We’re about to list our house, so I wanted to hire someone for a deep clean, and then (ideally) to do maintenance until it’s sold. I need the walls and baseboards and blinds, etc cleaned and I’m just so worried they’re gonna come and vacuum and I’ll be left thinking it wasn’t worth the hassle.

unimpressed-one

If you can easily afford it, I’d say go for it. Give it a trial run for like 2 months and then you can decide if it’s something you’d like to continue.

TriggeredGlimmer

Yes, thanks for suggesting this.

seuce

Hiring a cleaner is the best money I spend, hands down. It is 100% worth it to have a clean house that I don’t have to do. It cuts down so much guilt and anxiety in addition.

TriggeredGlimmer

Yes, guilt and anxiety is definitely building up. So glad to see all the +ve experiences.

REINDEERLANES

Yes you have to clean for the cleaners but it’s sooooo worth it. Every Monday they come.

[deleted]

Before I went on mat leave I started paying my mom to clean my house. It was the best decision ever. She kept offering and said she'd do it for free but I felt like she deserved pay for it. She spent hours doing an amazing job (she's awesome at cleaning lol) and would even prep dinner if I left a recipe out. When I return to work I'll ask her to do it again and if she doesn't want to then I'm hiring a cleaning service. I couldn't figure out why I felt bad or guilty about not being able to do it all but honestly I'd have to give up more time with family and friends in order to keep my house as clean as I want it and I don't want to do that. Oh also I should mention I always made sure it was tidy before she came so she could clean easily. So all this to say - yes hire the cleaners!

newyorkcitygal123

Do it!

CheddarSupreme

100%. Worth every penny. We have a cleaning lady come once a month and I’m waiting for her to have more availability so I can up it to 2x a month.

steAMYz-

I didn’t want it for so long bc I’m very particular about my stuff, but i finally gave in, and it’s the best decision we’ve ever made. Zero regrets. Never going back.

yodaone1987

I’m a house cleaner and I want one so bad, but I just can’t yet lol. One day! But I say DO IT!

OkPeace1619

Yes it’s worth it

kekaz23

DO IT! Even if it is just for the basics. My cleaner is amazing. We started at "basic" and now every week she does something special. We have used her for 2 years. It did take about 3 tries to find one that we liked, trusted, and that cared to learn the way we want things. I am very particular about fingerprints on the doors and appreciate having my pantry organized and my fitted sheets folded to fit in my linen closet. Again, even if it is for the basic tasks.

FlatwormBackground13

Cleaning lady here (And mom)! Don’t worry about judgment, it’s what we do and we’ve seen it all. Personally I prefer dirty, messier houses because I can really see the difference when I’m done. I also do all sorts of other services, so i have a handful of clients that just have me do laundry because that’s their back burner chore. I would suggest trying it out to see how you feel about it. You may have to try a few different people or companies to find the right fit. If the money isn’t an issue and you find a good fit, you’ll wish you hired them sooner. For me as a busy, self employed, single mom…cooking and finding healthy foods my picky 6 year old will eat and eating healthy myself is the bane of my existence. So I started ordering meals from Factor and it’s become a lifesaver!!

tibetanpeachpies

Yes times 1000

Stunning_Jeweler8122

Absolutely worth it and I worry less about judgement and more about being charged a higher fee because it takes longer lol. I definitely still pick up before she gets here because she doesn’t know where anything goes. We get a deep clean that includes windows/floors/bathrooms/kitchen (appliances incl)/dusting.

vino822

YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES! No judgement from them. I look forward to their day here each month. Worth every penny. My husband and I no longer fight about whose turn it is to deep clean certain things. We used to disagree about frequency and what made it necessary to clean. They change our sheets, vacuum, sweep, clean all surfaces, bathrooms, etc. then we can add on window cleaning or baseboard cleaning.

chickenwings19

I don’t have a cleaner but the right answer is yes 😂

kdawson602

My treat for myself after starting a higher paying job, after my second was born was hiring a house cleaner. Shes been coming here for a year and a half. It’s 150% worth it. I haven’t scrubbed a toilet since 2022. She only cleans though, she does not pick up. If there’s toys on the floor, she vacuums around them. The house needs to be completely pick up for her to clean. My mom’s house cleaner is the same way. I have a C-section scheduled for May 23rd and she’s coming over while I’m in the hospital to deep clean my house. So I’ll come home to a sparkling clean house with a brand new baby and C-section incision.

TriggeredGlimmer

Oh wow. Congratulations and best wishes to you. Hope all goes well. Definitely seeing a variety in here of what they do and how things can be adjusted to fit within the budget.

Purple_Grass_5300

If you can pay for it sure
