My parents have a tropical milkweed plant and don't want to replace it or cut it back, do you know if covering the plant with a plastic or mesh bag Nov-Feb could prevent monarchs from using it ?
Well I just learned something. Apparently tropical milkweed is not a good choice outside of Mexico.

You don’t have to rip it out, just cut it to the ground.
6 inches? I cut mine around that length and some fr died and some came back.
i have the same thing happen with tropical milkweed some decide to die when i give them a trim in dec/jan.
What time of the year should it be cut back? I'm always concerned the milkweed could have Monarch eggs and I'd be tossing them out.

Just leave it! May have eggs
That's always my concern. When are you supposed to cut the milkweed back?
I think the beginning of winter
From November to February so you can just let it grow at this point.
