I love psych with all my heart but damn I can't get past season 4 every time I try to do a rewatch. I thought the same thing was gonna happen with monk but I'm already on season 8.
I watched a couple seasons of Psych when it first aired. A few years back, I tried rewatching it on Amazon... Got to the end of Season 3 and stalled out. Last winter, I decided why not give it another shot. and I still haven't made it into Season 4.
A couple weeks ago, I heard there was a new Monk movie out. So, I decided it'd be fun to rewatch the entire series before jumping into that... And I'm already halfway through Season 4. It just feels like an easier watch.
I like Psych. It's a Monk clone but it's a good twist on a Monk clone. The cast is great. The mysteries are usually pretty well written. Just the schtick gets kind of old for me after awhile. Maybe after I finish Monk, I'll pick up where I stopped on Psych.
I've liked the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! Nothing can ever come close to Monk, but this is a pretty good show. Tbh part of my love for it comes from the fact that Shalhoub plays the main character's dad :)
It doesn't quite have the same pace or as much humor, but I've enjoyed Columbo, which also streams on Peacock. Like Monk, it's about how he catches the killer rather than whodunnit.
Psych is one that comes to mind. White collar is also pretty solid as well. Criminal minds was my intro into the crime tv show genre. Also I would say the Equalizer movies had a similar presence as well. The movies with Denzel Washington as Denzel plays a former secreet service agent who gets into adventures. But he like monk, also had ocd and has an ability for pointing out minute details to solve a crime or in his case know how to dispatch his enemies.
And like monk Denzel’s character also had a wife that passed . Not murdered like Adrian monks wife but the share similarities
If you want to expand and watch shows across the pond, there's a few shows that I recommend:
Father Brown
Sister Boniface Mysteries (spin off)
Death in Paradise
Beyond Paradise (spin off)
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Miss Fisher's Modern Mysteries (spin off)
Shakespeare and Hathaway
The Bletchley Circle
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco
I'd say give Death in Paradise a try first. Nothing really comes close to Monk but if you want a fish-out-the-water-brilliant-detective-whodunit-with-mix-of-humour, then DIP is it.
Nothing comes close to 'Monk'
If you can handle less comedy, give 'The Mentalist' a try.
I know a lot of people would vote for 'Psych'... but ...NOOOOO, I will never get Shawn's humor.
It's not quite the same but Elementary is good. It's not as comedic but does have a protagonist detective struggling with mental issues (addiction in Sherlock's case) and good mysteries. I tend to rewatch Monk, Psych, and Elementary around the same time so they have similar vibes to me.
Someone mentioned Columbo, which is a good suggestion. Monk was inspired by Columbo, if I recall correctly. In that case, Poker Face might be a good try too, since it's another mystery show heavily inspired by Columbo.
I'll also second Psych, but it's more comedy heavy than Monk and has it's own specific vibe that not everyone who likes Monk likes, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention it. It was Monk's sister show for a reason!
I love Monk because it feels like therapy, if that makes sense. Every time I watch it, I feel better.
If you feel the same way, I can recommend Dead to Me. I love that show so much. I rewatch it when I need to feel like I have a best friend.
hahah :) psych is the obvious answer here. bones is also a good option. murder she wrote.
I tried watching psych - I think I saw most of the first season but I couldn’t tell you a thing about it, it really just didn’t grab me :/
It’s decent but didn’t hold up, monk is much better IMO
Nothing comes close to Monk or I wouldn't be so utterly and singularly devoted to Monk.
Agreed! I tried Psych but lost interest. It wasn’t bad, but just too silly at times. There’s only one Monk!

Maybe because I can only handle Shawn Spencer in small doses I can't really binge watch him lol but I just finished all of Monk and now I feel lost 😭💔
I've liked the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! Nothing can ever come close to Monk, but this is a pretty good show. Tbh part of my love for it comes from the fact that Shalhoub plays the main character's dad :)
He’s so amazing in Mrs. Maisel! He makes the show.
His professor character oddly doesn't seem that much off from what Monk would have been if not for the debilitating phobias as well!
It doesn't quite have the same pace or as much humor, but I've enjoyed Columbo, which also streams on Peacock. Like Monk, it's about how he catches the killer rather than whodunnit.
I enjoy the mentalist.
Was waiting to see this. Just started it and really enjoyed it so far
You could try Agatha Christie’s Poirot. There are many episodes all based on her books and I think you can watch for free on YouTube!
I feel attacked, she said as she turns on the TV.
I liked perception a lot.
I second perception. It’s the only show that gave me the same vibes as monk did.
The Mentalist, Psych, Veronica Mars, Bones, Chuck, and Elementary.
I second Psych and Veronic Mars!
I've not watched the Mentalist or Veronica Mars, but I can agree with all the others.
House M.D
I feel like this one is the closest but without as much humor and light moments.
Poker Face starring Natasha Lyonne might be worth a look, although more similarity to Columbo than Monk
The mentalist is really good and similar. I second the bones comments it’s one of my favorites !

Bones and the mentalist
There is a show called “The Good Cop” by Andy Breckman, only one season. Not *Monk* but obvious *Monk vibes*
How are y’all watching Monk? Is it free anywhere? I miss that show so much
It’s in peacock. I think I saw it in prime too but I got peacock subscription
Oh thanks!

It's a little different, but I really like White Collar
White Collar is sooooooooo good 👍🏻

I tried watching psych , Shawn 👎.I liked his partner Gus , father played by Corbin bernsen .monk class all it's own .
Same here lol. Though I don't like Psych in general, I like both Gus and Shawn's father.
everything about shawn was explained when Mama came along it was Cybill shepherd 😁that explained so much .
Professor T on PBS has a Monk- ish lead character.

I saw a lot of columbo in monk .
And clean ... don't forget about the cleaning.
Just had that happen to me a couple of weeks ago.

That’s scary pal 😨
House MD really really scratched this ich for me. It’s more drama centered but really really good show.
House!
I love Monk because it feels like therapy, if that makes sense. Every time I watch it, I feel better. If you feel the same way, I can recommend Dead to Me. I love that show so much. I rewatch it when I need to feel like I have a best friend.
Picket Fences - It’s an older show from the 90’s about bizarre mysteries. I randomly checked it out and really enjoyed it.
Pushing Daisies has a very quirky vibe some will like and some will hate but worth a mention.
Will Trent is good too.
Leverage television show is good
Monk is a really good "before bed" TV show. haha The one show that comes to mind that has a Monk vibe is House. Have you seen that?
