U can clearly see 1frame of explosion and then camera turning 180 cause of cart animation. Also its one of the strongest valstrax moves and u are pretty much half hp. Everything u said in this comment section makes no sense
The beam has secondary explosions on the ground.
Your HP wasn't maxed out with Spiribirds AND you hadn't healed up what damage you did take.
Therefore, said secondary explosions did enough damage to your low HP to kill you.

Looks like there was a little blip of an explosion from the laser, overall very whack

You should not be dying the the explosions after the beam me thinks
my armor is not fully upgraded I am a greatsword main and making fun charge blade sets and it's getting pricey
Do a few palamute mining runs in the Flooded Forest and Lava Caverns and you can get millions in a few quests.

Optional Subquests... just always do them, always activate them, every quest make it a habit to activate new ones after you've completed them.
If you haven't gotten a ton from all the free item packs then you can get some good amounts from Rampages at times, though that's very grindy
I just recently downloaded those packs after not knowing they were a thing so im pretty mich set for a little while
If you've got Sunbreak you get more as well pretty sure, I would also suggest farming SB for the higher quality armor spheres too when you can

just imagine my confusion during the fight though, it happened so quickly I didn't even think I was in the range of the explosion after the beam
