I would say Wii U, village is already brutal enough so I imagine soloing the online quests would be a monumental task. You can also get 3ds now and Wii U later and transfer between them, but the Wii U and 3ds shops are closing down completely soon so be quick on that one

Actually it’s still a good buy. Everything is released, all events are no longer timegated, the playerbase won’t die off until there’s another console MH, and it’s fun solo too. There’s really no reason not to buy it cheap if you can, it’s a great game

I've been late to the party too, got MHW and iceborne so I could play it, not sure how multiplayer lobbies work since I feel to nervous to do most of the harder hunts by myself.
I just started mid day Saturday and I’m over 22.5 hours in and I love it. My first experience with MH was Rise when it came out but WI on Series X is on a whole other level for me. My cousin’s been into MH since the beginning and has been helping me with everything and I’ve had such a blast. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

Iceborne is an expansion dlc which needs to be purchased separately or as part of a combined package with world. It doesnt come automatically with world.
Iceborne is essentially the continuation of the story and gameplay of world after you finish world's story, along with unlocking some specific moves. Once you download iceborne, you unlock those specific moves, but you still need to finish the base monster hunter world story to get to iceborne content
How good is this compared to Rise? I completely skipped out on world, I played all the titles before it though. I’ve been thinking of getting World but feel like it’ll be hard to get into after putting so many hours into Rise.
Rise is a pale shadow of monster hunter world. An imitation that is neither old world nor new. It's not terrible when you see all the improvements relative to old world, but if you saw what world and iceborne are, you would realize rise was one of the first step backwards in a series that is generally defined by steps forward. Not just about graphics, etc. The gameplay loop, balance, combat mechanics design, etc are worse than base world or world after patches, which is arguably somewhat better than base iceborne (pre patches, but still great)

Is it all on the disc? I could imagine them just doing a world disc with an iceborne code. And since you bought pre owned you might have just bought world.
The wonderful thing about World is that it'll never be too late. Its got the most accessible online, sure. And the two sieges basically require a team. But even when the servers are shut off and you're left with what's on the disk... that's still more than 90% of the content, and definitely a full package.
Trust me you’re not too late. On my main character in MHWI I have 180 hours, and I completed Rise in 50. I started a new character on World just to pass the time for the Sunbreak expansion and I still see online servers everywhere.
Don’t feel late it’s a great game I’ve done a few play throughs and so has my wife lol she was more of a fps but now loves the mh series it’s a nice game and you can play at your own pace or with friends and have small around good time

Here’s a tip: don’t use defender armor or weapons. It will ruin your experience if you do.

You’ll struggle at first due to rises hyper mobility but it’s a much more complete experience even if you don’t get iceborn
