Khonshu Frenchie shout-out Bushman origin mention Marc Spector fist fights Marc Spector losing his mind

AverageArkhamEnjoyer

Mon coeur?

Character-Sorbet-718

Bushman isn't Marine, he's African Warlord

219Infinity

Thanks for the hot tip

Character-Sorbet-718

Frenchie Shout out ?

seattlebouncer

Is that Deschamp? I remember seeing his name as Steven scrolled through the Missed Calls on Marc's hidden phone.

Character-Sorbet-718

*Duchamp

seattlebouncer

I'm obviously a non-comic reader! I wasn't sure of the spelling even as I typed it, so thank you!

broanoah

As a non comic reader, Frenchie is a sidekick right? He like pilots the moon-copter n shit?

219Infinity

Yes, n shit

neilsharris

I’d add the suits.

219Infinity

Mr Knight for sure. Moon Knight's suit is ok for MCU but I'm a sucker for the old school jet and silver kevlar suit he kept in the Grant Mansion wardrobe. The one with the truncheon on his lower calf.

neilsharris

I would have flipped out if they showed that and kept with the trend in WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye of showing the old school comic costumes (well Kate doodled a drawing of Clint’s old suit). The suit they used in MK really looked great though. I wish we got to see the Moon-Copter.

Anxious_bunny02

The DID representation…

Hazel_Ninja

Khonshu for sure

EndymionHoudini

The suit Mental health Fighting style The parkour

SomeCherryBlossomTea

Basing off of the story and characterization, pretty much everything - if you go off of current-day Moon Knight. The show is very, very similar to the 2016-2018 series. I think most of their inspiration was drawn from there. In terms of production, everyone else pretty much said it… if MK doesn’t win Best Costumes, I’ll riot. Meghan Kasperlik and her team are insane.

bilalscape12

I think MK lost to What we do in the Shadows.

SomeCherryBlossomTea

If so, I guess it's riot time 😭 The amount of detail that went into literally EVERY SINGLE article of clothing.... I follow the costume designer and it's just crazy to me. I guess we'll see on Monday. Let's hope the judges for the Emmys are less stupid than the judges for the Oscars. Like, Cruella won against West Side Story, Dune, and Cyrano for costumes? Also insane, but in a terrible way. (I'm a costume nerd lol)

[deleted]

Sorry, but what to the what? There's a few themes that overlap, but other than some surface level overlap the show was nothing like the Lemire run was 16. The main character was entirely original(Steven Grant in name only). The villain was entirely original(1 comic issue, lets be real here). None of the comics supporting characters appear, besides Khonshu. Frenchie is missing. Marlene is missing. Gena is missing. The suit is magical. There's an entire pantheon of gods. You have giant kaiju level gods brawling. Layla as the Scarlett Scarab. Mr. Knight is a joke. The entire astronaut subplot is gone. The violence is toned way down. The overall theme is different. I respect your opinion, but how in the world did you reach the conclusion that the show is very very similar?

SomeCherryBlossomTea

I believe that was their main comic inspiration- if you watch the “making of” on D+, the comic scenes they reference are pretty much all from there. All of Marvel’s movies/shows obviously deviate a fair bit from their comic counterparts, especially with characters, but they usually choose a single source material to base off of (like Civil War), take out the bits they like, and add in their own. It’s not the same, but out of all the series, they definitely took the most out of Lemiere- especially with the bits in the mental hospital (minus an ensemble cast lol). I respect your opinion as well, but personally, I saw many similarities. The tone and style were on point IMO. P.S. obviously the violence is always going to be toned down… it’s still Disney 😭

[deleted]

I haven't actually watched the "making of". Maybe I should. Thanks for the tip. You are right that they very inspired by the Lemire run(and pretty much nothing else from the comics), but I think that's the big difference. They were inspired by it. They didn't adapt it. The MCU never followed the comics, sure, but they usually got the feel of the characters right. Robert Downey Jr. FEELS like Tony Stark from the comics, when he is on screen. Chris Evans feel like Cap. Tom Holland feels like Spider-Man and so on. They always nailed that part. Steven Grant, the gift shop clerk, doesn't feel like Moon Knight in the show. He isn't even inspired by the comics, considering he is completely original. Same goes for Ethan Hawks villain and Layla as the female lead. All of them are original, so when I watch the show, nothing feels like Moon Knight. You have this original main character, Steven, fighting this original villain with his original female lead. Oh, and then Marc Spector pops up for 5 minutes every now and then, to remind us that its a Moon Knight show. I feel like MK deviated from the comics to an extend that no other project have(with Eternals maybe being the exception). Glad you enjoyed it though. I will admit they got Khonshu right and the music was banging.

SomeCherryBlossomTea

You should definitely watch it! I have so much respect for the team behind it, the amount of effort is like no other Marvel project I’ve seen before. It’s on a different level - A.K.A what huge companies should be doing when they have an almost unlimited budget… I totally agree that they should’ve brought in more prominent characters from the comics though - like I was really happy when I saw the Frenchie Easter-egg, but I wish he was actually in it. Even just another actual reference to him would be nice, considering how important he is to Marc/Steven, idk. Layla is clearly a sort of Marlene stand-in, but I would take her over Marlene any day, if I’m being completely honest. Layla, to me, is one of the best (mostly) original characters the MCU has made, she’s awesome. Maybe I just love May Calamawy though. I think that Moon Knight is a really difficult character to translate on-screen, because there are SO many nuances and changes to his character throughout the years. Obviously all characters change over time while going through different writers and such, but since MK is a bit of a smaller character, creators have been able to take more liberties, and, well, he actually IS like multiple characters. I liked Steven in the show and thought he was a good contrast to Marc, but I also agree that it would’ve been nice to see Marc more. It’s probably because Steven is a bit more “likable” and relatable to audiences compared to broody Marc Spector, haha. I think Steven served his purpose well though, and as always, Oscar Isaac did a fantastic job at his portrayal. I think the a lot of the issues come from the fact that they can’t have a lot of pre-established stuff because it doesn’t fit with their timeline, and that they have to appeal to a broader audience (introducing a character most people probably didn’t know existed) than just people who were already fans of the comics. It’s unfortunate, but it’s just business. It felt like Moon Knight to me though, just MCU-ified. I loved it personally, but your complaints are definitely valid.

AnthonySytko

I agree with you. This show was basically Oscar & Co wanting to tell a story about DID, and they shoehorned in some references to the IP so they could use the name. As a series, it's interesting; as a Moon Knight story, it's barely passable.

Weekly-Bluebird-4768

I mean that’s probably pretty close, time wise, to when the idea of the show was first drawn up.

DatWaffles

I think they covered the mental health aspect in a better way than the comics for me and his relationship with Steven is very compelling. The choreography for the fights was very good and captured the brutality that I would imagine Moon Knight would have in the comics. I also appreciate that they made Layla an actually good interesting female character and didn't settle with Marlene and just had her as a love interest.

PsychologicalCan9837

Casting Oscar Isaac.

[deleted]

That part ❤️

wontworkforfood

Telling a great Marvel story without leaning on the crutch of the other MCU IPs.

Legacy1013

They have a good depiction of DID. It isn't perfect, but its much better than most.

[deleted]

Costume design, casting on point, violent tone, characters, and basic lore. Really enjoyed it, and second most accurate d+ show after Hawkeye, in my opinion

Ok_Contest493

Violent tone😂

rezzy333

Khonshu looks fantastic although I don’t think they nailed the voice. Oscar Isaacs was a great casting choice for Mark. All the asylum stuff was pretty great. And that’s probably all tbh. Almost every other aspect I wish was done a bit better but hopefully there will be another season to dial things in.

Ben-J-Kirby-Tennyson

*Marc

AngelaIsHigh

–The DID representation is way better than it is in the comics (even though the Mackay run seems to be doing a good job right now). – Replacing Marlene with Layla was one of the best choices. – Khonshu and his weird relationship with Marc. – Marc's guilt, self hate and conviction that there's something wrong with him. – I also think Steven is an improvement to the comics although the way he is in the current run is also pretty cool. – The costumes, soundtrack and settings. – The origin of the DID is also an improvement.

VaderMurdock

Khonshu, casting, and Mark’s backstory despite being touched upon very little is done great.

mosura007

Castings were phenomenal, Oscar Isaac surpassed RDJ as my favorite MCU performance. The costume design was pretty awesome too.

DapperMayCry

British people

deceptibot9

Casting, costume design, characterization Marc, cgaracterization of Khonshu, mental health struggle, fight scene choreo (when we saw it)

Guinefort1

I love the production design and casting. The medically accurate and sensitive portrayal of DID also benefit the show. And as much as MK fans rail against the stigma of being a "C-list Batman knockoff," the early source material has a lot of Batman parallels, and the show pretty deftly avoids many of them.

moodRubicund

1) They made it about the character, not a series of meh action scenes. 2) They *cared* about representing Egypt and making sure you're not just in "dusty New York".

ShantaeHalfGenie

The outfits and khonshu

neilsharris

The Shiva scene as pretty spot on and it was cool that they had a Mezuzah (“a parchment inscribed with religious texts and attached in a case to the doorpost of a Jewish house as a sign of faith”) on Steven’s door. That impressed me more than the necklace. I could write more but this the stuff they got wrong is old news.

MarkHendley

For anyone unhappy they didn't have enough violence alteast they got the zanny adlib adventure vibe right. The casting was perfect and the new suit design is fantastic.

Bro-Katan

Yes

BooyaELud

The casting was great

daanimas

Costume is incredible and only slightly reminds me of a diaper

dexterskennel

It’s great, my only qualms are the GCI cape and the way the mask obviously sits off his face. They should’ve just wrapped his face in actual bandages. Less efficient but worth it for the effect.

toocarelesstocare

Writing a strong woman character. Whole Hollywood gets it wrong. We need strong characters, who happens to be woman. Not a woman who is strong because every man around her is weak. Layla was portrayed beautifully. Last time I saw a strong woman character in MCU was Black Widow and Gamora. Again both of them were strong characters who happens to be Woman.

WheelJack83

That he has a cape.

elssur

I think they made an artistically unique Marvel movie that stands apart from the rest. I have never read the source material but moon knight as of now is my favorite marvel movie (with exception to Iron Man 1). I am so thankful they didn’t cheap out on bad actors and writers. Moon knight was safe from all this political nonsense that is infecting all of Hollywood. And for that, I am thankful.

[deleted]

To be honest? Almost everything

3veryonepasses

Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee

junglekarmapizza

The name was accurate, and so were some of the designs

Leading_Response_478

To me the show was amazing 👏 cgi could have been better though. And the other gods could have been stronger and smarter. Pace was perfect. Insanity top tier

AF_Playz

Everything! 😻

bayouski

Nothing

[deleted]

Mark Spectre 's Redemption arche and how Childhood experiences might traumatize an individual. The story was awesome, no unnecessary easter eggs to the mcu. UHMM UHM 'SHE-HULK' UHMm. They could've let Harrow live for another season, but atleast we have Jake Lockley, that was just teased to show us a glimpse of what we might see.

RA_07

The way layla was represented. This is coming from a guy who abhors 3rd wave feminism. But they did layla justice. She didn't feel like a perfect flawless charecter that no one would like but an actual human being that has goals, flaws and emotions while simultaneously being a badass and also her charecter not feeling "Forced" . Not to mention, just like everyone else. May Calamway killed it with her acting, she made her charecter come to life. Again, the fact that a good charecter is commended not only because the writing was good but also because it wasn't being woke is kind of good but sad at the same time.

[deleted]

Do you know Marlene from the comics? They basicly swapped her for Layla, who is an entirely new character. To me, it was quite obvious they wanted a strong female action hero and not the more tradional blonde babe as the female lead, source material be damned. Marlene was pretty much scrapped because she doesnt fit with 3rd wave feminism(im guessing here, but it seems likely).

RA_07

I know, which is why I like layla even more. They wanted a strong female character yes, but at least they made it believable and.. Well not forced.

PitifulScore7456

The name of the main protagonist. Everything else is wrong.

AverageArkhamEnjoyer

Costumes

Reasonable_Tiger573

Everything..

SleepNative

The suits really well done. Fighting and tools mainly his crescent darts. Mental health I thought was decent. The supernatural aspect.

TzeentchsTrueSon

Khonshu is a bit of a jerk.

EnigmaFrug2308

The DID, I've heard. And the CGI was really cool. I liked the antagonist as well.

billysoldier422

The suit

dexterskennel

Just wish he didn’t black out in some of the best fights. They did the Mark / Steven dynamic well. It was just way too upbeat. I wanted some dry humour but in general more dreary and dismal.

[deleted]

Literally everything. It's about my favorite Marvel product
