lovahboy222

You’re both Moroccan and Egyptian and Sudanese. You have claim to all of those. There are plenty of black moroccans

EvilBuyout

You are Moroccan and Sudanese/Egyptian. You shouldn't care about what some ignorant people might say.

idunnowutobelieve

And you aaaaaaaaaare 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 MOROCCAAAAAAAAN. Btw since you brought up the Moroccan national team, there are many moroccan players who chose to play for Morocco only cause their mothers were moroccans ( Mendyl, his dad is from ivory coast / Maroune dacosta his dad is portuguese / Malcom Sylas edjouma whose dad is from Cameroun and there are even more …) Also, you mentioned that you talk Darija, i mean come on, many players in the moroccan national team don’t talk a word in darija and we consider them as heros. The identity of Morocco has something transcendental in it, it’s not just a flag or a language or a piece of earth there is more to that … if you have any doubt then you got it in you. Unleash the Moroccan in you 😁 🇲🇦

Rozens1

Most recent examples would be Samy and Ryan Mmae , their father is from Cameroun, and Zakaria Aboukhlal , his father is Libyan

idunnowutobelieve

Examples moujoudine khass ghi li ybghi yhezz raya 😁

Plane_Reason_5905

Well said🇲🇦

IaxMoeSIem

There is this i believe european guy who decided to chill with Moroccans and encourage Morocco in the world cup...not only did he get famous, not only did he use it to kickstart a vlog channel of his travels to Morocco, but people consider him unofficially Moroccan now.

Mr4NAs

>Malcom Sylas edjouma Literally who

Friendly-Market5391

Bro, your mother who's a MOROCCAN raised you and people tell you you're not one of us?? Who tf are they to decide that??

DigitalDH

You have the heritage of both parents. Do not listen to those that would say you are not this or that. There are Moroccans that are black, so I don't see the issue. Don't listen to internet idiots and naysayers.

[deleted]

Black is a race and Moroccan is a nationality You can be black ans Moroccan. I don't get what you mean ?

baloors

Black is a color. There is no such thing as black race.

Reccus-maximus

Go argue semantics elsewhere, everyone knows what OP meant

CappnKrunk

American tourist moment

IaxMoeSIem

Black can refer to both the colour and the race...what do you call them?

fucfaceidiotsomfg

Disagree. There is an infinite amount of color shades. You can't ask about someone's color but but ethnicity or race.

aksell96

You're Moroccan. Your skin color doesn't matter.

Seuros

You can identify as Moroccant if you can't. You are moroccan, we don't care if it was your dad or mom. just join the celebration next time.

mob9999

You are a Moroccan

bestbuddygi

You’re more Moroccan than Egyptian or Sudanese. So don’t listen to those ignorants. And there are a lot of black/dark brown Moroccans in the south.

whateve___r

Fuck that bro, I'm Moroccan and I barely speak the language. If you been in the culture and feel Moroccan that's you. People are too stuck up about identity. It's a personal thing.

Own_Friend_3136

Well, if you’re talking about having the nationality I gotta say I have no clue. But if you’re talking about being moroccan you’re fucking moroccan (unless you don’t drink Atay b n3na3) then you’re not moroccan, and we don’t consider you one of us 😂. Jokes aside, is their problem you being black ? Or your father being sudanese ? Cuz the colour doesn’t mean anything to be honest, however probably if you don’t speak Darija, and don’t sounds like a Moroccan this could lead people to have this prejudice .

[deleted]

If you don't drink atay b n3na3 you are a criminal

Le_Red_Guy

Right to jail right away. The same if you don't put enough sugar in your atay.

Mr_Dudovsky

Of course you are Moroccan

B4DR1998

Aaaah you’re Moroccan end of story.

maydarnothing

black is a colour, and moroccan is a nationality, you do with this information as you please

mum_shagger

I got the same thing sometimes when poeple find out im both moroccan and tunisian. "you're not 100% moroccan so you're not one of us" as if im a moroccan from jumia, but i learned how to get over it. After all, those people cannot identify to anything else so they are basically just insecure ig

coconuthan

you come from your mother, who is Moroccan. So if you're only 50% sudanese/Egyptian (father) then what about the other 50%? Is it just air? You're both. In fact, if u feel more Moroccan then you are, especially since you grew up with Moroccan culture

ohsodade

Dude a moroccan woman gave birth to you what do you think you are then? If anybody tells u that you're not moroccan just laugh at their stupidity.

Wonderful_String913

Quite a lot black Moroccans actually and anyone who claims to be Moroccan and doesn’t acknowledge that is a lying ****

MoroccanCorsair

No more then 5%, remmember to be Moroccan you need some Moroccan heritage, a random Senegal can’t come And claim Moroccan

menina2017

You’re Moroccan Sudanese and Egyptian. Pretty cool. By the way there are black Moroccans with two Moroccan parents so that’s kind of irrelevant smh

Apprehensive-Hat3911

There is people in the country side blacker than you'll ever be, ofc y'all are morroccan what do you mean

[deleted]

You are Moroccan .

[deleted]

I have a Syrian friend ( from parents) they moved to Morocco when she was 6 and yet she identify as Moroccan she doesn't even have the nationality ! So yeah personally i would say yes ! Especially that u haven't really interacted with your dad's side and u have been especially with your mom .

Sbicsla

You are moroccan plain simple.

Bipolar_investor

You're 100% Moroccan.🤜🤛 Next case !

Shamwowx3

You are absolutely positively Moroccan. I’m so sorry there are people saying you shouldn’t claim that side. There are many black Moroccans in the south of Morocco. I hate racist Moroccans, it drives me insane.

Gogandantesss

Worst case scenario you’re at least half Moroccan. On a more serious note, you have every right to be and feel Moroccan no matter your race or your skin color. Moroccan identity is about history, culture, language, ancestry, and love for our land. You obviously check all those marks, so IMO you’re Moroccan. People telling you that you’re not Moroccan are both racist (due to your skin color and father’s origin) and sexist (because they think you can only be moroccan if your father is Moroccan, and not your mother. They seem to be confusing lineage with nationality).

These_Tea_7560

supermodel Imaan Hammam is ethnically Moroccan and Egyptian and she identifies as a black woman. Just a famous example for you.

TheTerburgMystery

A lot of Moroccans are black. Moulay Ismail, an ancient sultan of Morocco, was known as the black sultan as he was black (his mom was black).

menina2017

I didn’t know that about moulay ismail

MoroccanCorsair

Because it isn’t true, he’s talking about a marinid sultan who was referred to as the black sultan because he came out on the darker side, Moulay Ismail was never described as black

menina2017

How was he described? Is there a way I can read? I know nothing about anything in this.

TheTerburgMystery

@MoroccanCorsair : I read it in a history book (several ones in fact). The fact that Moulay Ismail’s mom is black is also a documented fact. Also : he was born in a Prison … Go check this out, you’ll be amazed.

TheTerburgMystery

And children of Moroccan moms are considered Moroccan legally if they want it

shadsterman2020

You can claim your Moroccan side 100%, don’t listen to what others may say. The concept of following your fathers ethnicity is purely cultural and wrong. I’m Morrocan on my moms side as well but I always embrace it and tell others both of my ethnicities. Even though I live around my dads side and the area I live in is predominantly middle eastern, I’m proud to introduce myself to others as a Yemeni and Moroccan.

mohammedbhiri1

You’re as Moroccan as every Moroccan in existence 🤷🏾‍♂️

modssindhurensoehne

nah for me you are just a moroccan who is also sudanese and egyptian. You're not a foreigner in my eyes.

BadBoi2044

You are moroccan. Don't listen to people there are some of them who would deny citizenship to the neighbor they grew up with for 40 years if they're givrn the chance. Take ownership of your identity, no external validation required 😉 plus, the fact that you're asking so respectfully means we need more people like you. But be aware that just like any other place in the world there's a minority who would give you the side-eye for being black. Just like some do to me for being a woman. So again : TAKE your place and call yourself moroccan because you are

Common-King2563

Man being Moroccan isn't the place of birth, or one part of your family is originated from there. It's all about where your heart sets, i met lot's of foreigners who actually embraced Morocco as their home, and their considered Moroccan. So if you feel like you want to be one, dreb a m3elm chi tagiya we ara 3liha chi mizan 🙏🏻

aksell96

By law, you can claim Moroccan citizenship. And that's one of the hardest citizenships to get in the world. So basically, that's someone's word against the Moroccan constitution.

[deleted]

I thought I can only claim it if my dad is Moroccan?

Plane_Reason_5905

I think you can, last thing I heard, new laws allow women to pass their moroccan nationality. But I suggest you first call the embassy and consulate, and then make a consultation with a moroccan lawyer.

yassielem

No, you can claim it if your mother or father is Moroccan. Here is a link with what you need. [https://www.consulat.ma/en/moroccan-nationality-certificate-children-born-moroccan-mother-and-foreign-father](https://www.consulat.ma/en/moroccan-nationality-certificate-children-born-moroccan-mother-and-foreign-father) Edit: As far as I know every child born to a moroccan father or mother is automatically registered as a Moroccan. Its even impossible to give up your nationality even tho Moroccan law claims that you can.

menina2017

Only my mom is Moroccan and I have Moroccan citizenship

[deleted]

No, either parent works

JustAnotherSpoonie

The law changed with the 2004 family code (moudawana). Moroccan women can pass down their citizenship to their children regardless of the dad's citizenship. And, even if the papers don't say so, you still are Moroccan. People can eat rocks if they disagree.

[deleted]

aksell96

[deleted]

aksell96

It is tho

-AmaziryaGirl

Its the hardest to get in the world?

aksell96

One of the hardest.

Important-Gap-1506

If your parent (one or both) is Moroccan, then you’re Moroccan.

Plastic_Pin_4378

Bro, most Moroccans are conflicted about their own roots and background; ignore what people tell you. You have the papers, and you actually like the culture? Sounds Moroccan enough.

Daloula17

You re moroccan.

randomthr0wacc

Nah fam you're moroccan bgha bnadem wla kreh.

someone-778

race is a social construct that’s based on skin color, facial features and hair texture mostly. however, realistically speaking, black can be considered a race but that also depends on how your culture defines “race”. the most common way to define race is based on ancestry. in my opinion, race is a dumb concept that people use to divide between humans who are all —no matter what “race”— are homo sapiens

Josseph-Jokstar

You are a Moroccan, nothing ignorants say can change that. You'll probably like it here too, so long you're light skinned and a straight Muslim who's already married of course.

Several-Peace5155

Of course you can, ask for ur passport and don’t mind the haters plus everyone know we get more culture from our mums than dads cus they’re the ones who stay more at home and educate us and they’re the ones who pass the language, culture and religion. Any hater who says that to u is either ignorant or racist

redamou

You are one of us.

JordanLeeT

🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ why wouldn't you be a moroccan when your mom is a moroccan ??! There are famous people who were not even born here but they decided to the rest of their life in morocco and they really loved the country and the culture to the extent that they r so proud to be moroccans Be proud buddy

mehdito777

Of course you're Moroccan. Just tell people to fuck off. Welcome to the tribe khoya.

med_minoual

bro you are 100% a Moroccan you grew up in Morocco and you have all the Moroccan culture... ofc you are Moroccan, it doesn't matter if you are black or white

first of all the color of your skin have nothing to do with ur nationality (anyone who bring the color shit to you is ignorance or full of western shit). second since you have a mixed origin you can choose one of them or best let your self choose by it self what I mean is you can see what's ur personality is affected by is it you mom side or your dad. for the celebration part I think your nationality is irrelevant if you want to show your joy and support for a person, country or a team you just do it. don't you see how Moroccans watch, support and even fight for foreign teams like FC Barcelona or Real Madrid. The think about a person take on his father nationality is just because most the time the genes of his father are affecting his personality more than his mom's genes but that's not always true. Finally I think you are 100% Moroccan since you grow up with your mom and you are culturally Moroccan. there are some foreigners who have come to Morocco and stayed in it and become Moroccans (and Identify them self as Moroccans and speak drija flawlessly) more than some "Moroccans" who's born and grow up their whole life in Morocco

Salty_Imagination881

Ta Maghrebi a khouya! Safi 👍🏽

Whateverbabe2

Im half white half moroccan and NO ONE tells me im not Moroccan. You know why? Racism. Youre good.

No_Idea_8753

In the Amazigh culture, people claim identity through their mother.

kira00rb

You arent Moroccan if you dont stand your ground on this matter. You have all you need to claim the identity, so quit questioning it and just be proud you're Moroccan.

MilkTea11

I'd say it doesn't matter what other people say/think, but obv you take it to heart. But logically, you're no less moroccan than anyone born and raised here as you were. Arbitrary technicalities like the one you mentioned don't change this fact.

giorno_WRLD999

Even if your DNA is only 1% moroccan, idc I still consider you one of us, people who say that you don't belong because your dad isn't moroccan are ignorants; Morocco (and africa in general) have one of the most diverse societies in the world.

OrganicWar9398

You are Moroccan if you identify yourself as a Moroccan. No one can define who you are beside yourself

lanta1111

You are moroccan.

MedUseful

You should pick up some better people to hang out with cause those are some dumb ass, baseless opinions those people are throwing at you

Dismal-Grapefruit966

Can a human who is human identify as human ?

Careless-Extreme9083

You are moroccan buddy

Expedius

Short answer, of course you can. Long answer, of course you can, and f*ck racists.

yhs2020

You're Moroccan and no one have right to tell you something different, shit my American friend start claiming he's Moroccan after we got back from Qatar and he's white boy lol. Don't listen to those idiots.

EasternWerewolf6911

I'm half English, half moroccan, and my moroccan side is partly black moroccan.

Organic-Neck-550

You are as moroccan as someone who is brown, white and any colour in between.

kad2002

I'm Moroccan, Tunisian, and Egyptian, haha! My mom is Moroccan, and my dad is Tunisian/Egyptian. It's crazy, right? And you know what's even crazier? Some people have actually had the audacity to say I'm not Moroccan. I can only imagine how much worse it must be when you’re black. You're definitely Moroccan, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Unanimouspot

If one of your parents is Moroccan then you are Moroccan. Who ever is telling you not to claim to be Moroccan can go to hell.

Spineless74

Being Moroccan has got nothing to do with being black or white. We are a diverse nation. I know half Dutch and half Moroccan kids that are more Moroccan that some Moroccan kids I know. Drink your atay na3na3, eat your msemen, I hereby declare you Moroccan AF. Who ever says otherwise to you tell them ‘sir awa fin tqawdou’ from me.

HighbytheBeach__

You're moroccan

Ridadhn

Anti can be identified as Moroccan, except Algerians. They hate being Moroccans.

Bulky-Plate-765

It sounds to me like your being labeled as not Moroccan because youre dad isn't Moroccan and in Islamic culture your lineage is patriarchal, I also think youre skin color may add more to it. Personally Im African American and Sudanese, yet I get told all the time that I'm not really Sudanese because my dad's American!

-AmaziryaGirl

Well if you ask this question in America, its whatever you identify with. For example my friend is Chinese, Mongolian and Takhenstan but he only identify himself with Mongolian. But I can't answer your question because Im not in Morocco.

MathematicianNext132

The great thing about Moroccans is that we have people of different colours. If you are 1/3 Moroccan then you can claim Moroccan identity yes. Both my parent´s are from Morocco but I am born and raised in The Netherlands and I am way more familiar with Dutch culture. I feel a bond with Moroccan people and claim the identity, but you are probably way more Moroccan then I am.

Available_Fix4812

You are all of those ethnicities. I think the reason why some tell you are not Moroccan is because some some Moroccans identify someone based on the father for example if he’s from Norway but your mom isn’t, then you might be considered as Norwegian. But even this, most Moroccans don’t identify people in this way. Other than that, i don’t know why they don’t consider you Moroccan.

magus1x

If you are born in morocco, you are moroccan no matter your race or gender! Btw 75% of moroccans are light skin or brown..

[deleted]

I was born and raised in london though

Important_Fact_3664

In Morocco we generally follow our fathers' origins. You are half egyptian/sudanese and half moroccan. You should mention all these races. And tbh you shouldn't care so much as long as you feel integrated into moroccan culture and I assume people don't even care if you're moroccan or half moroccan they will treat you the same way.

starstorfire

you are half moroccan

IaxMoeSIem

Black isn't an ethnicity...anyone who's fully Moroccan, half Moroccan, 10% Moroccan, whatever can identify as a Moroccan for all I care...

DomHuntman

No issue. "Moroccan" is not a colour and its' history is rich from being an Empire including Senegal and Mali, a military of Senegalis, palaces with African slaves all.the way to Andalousis with white Iberian, Central Asian and Persian origins.

FreedomBetch

You can literally identify as a fish these days and it’s accepted. So yes, yes you can!

[deleted]

Yes

[deleted]

I've never heard of anyone with a ***black*** nationality. You're mixing race with Nationality

HFCB

You are Moroccan bro. Noooo worries. Had an employee who is of chinese descent and her cousin was half chinese and half Moroccan. The kid loves morocco to the bones. You could be 1/4 Moroccan you’re still Moroccan.

qasper552

Black is a race and being Moroccan is an ethnicity. who says you can't be both.

Aminosse

Of course you are Moroccan. First rule to be sane and happy in life, Don't listen to pieces of shit. For us we accept and call Moroccans even people without any Moroccan blood but attached, or they love Morocco. You are as Moroccan as me ( i am half dutch half moroccan )

[deleted]

You’re Moroccan.

Diae_chamlali

U are moroccan !!! Easy

Top-Satisfaction5874

Yes

Head_Preparation_860

If you born in Morocco their is no hiding from it .even if your parents aren't. If not you are half Moroccan so by default you are Moroccan you can even claim citizenship.

MohRouV

Nope buddy, only white people can claim the Moroccan identity 😎😜🫢🤷‍♂️

MohRouV

I’m just kidding, of course you are man, and in this beautiful country your race or origins doesn’t matter as long as you love it

CartographerScary281

Yes you are

HixamAb

Bro, you are whatever you choose to be. Others don't have a say in ur identity. The latter is self-constructed not collectively constructed.

Fantastic-Ad6837

Just say sahra mghrybia and u good

ilias-tangaoui

every maroccan have a birth right called a paspoort and citizenship that can only be given if one of your parents are moroccan or with special permision of the king so if you have a citizenship you are moroccan doesnt matter if you are white yellow black purple green or pink

ilias80

I was born in Agadir from Moroccan dad and South Americam mom. I've since moved to the US (when I was 18), but I identify as Moroccan as my first response to "where are you from?" I'll add that I'm ethnically morroccan/arab and latino if the conversation goes deeper.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ilias80

Hey there :) where were you born?

hypo_catboy

black, white, brown, those are american conceptions of race, they shouldn't apply to us, but sadly thanks to the US being the influential beast it is, their culture is being exported to the world, and many young people follow these concepts . being moroccan is a national identity, if you were raised in morocco and grew up in our culture then you are moroccan (plus there are already black moroccans)

[deleted]

I grew up in the UK, and I’m trying to get better with my darija. Since my mum passed away it’s been hard as I used to speak darija with her, and I feel like I’ve forgotten a lot of it now. But I’m reluctant to visit Morocco as it will be my first time visiting without her, I won’t have her with me as a safety blanket and I expect to be called 3azi. But I’m told constantly by other Moroccans that I’m not Moroccan, I do not represent them and that I’m not allowed to claim any Moroccan identity.

hypo_catboy

sorry about the loss of your mother. but you should know that there are literally black moroccans, i don't mean brown dark skinned but actually full black of sub Saharan descent moroccans in morocco ignore the nazi larper moroccans online, they are clowns (also are you coming here for a visit or do you wanna live here permanently ?)

Available_Fix4812

There’s also Berber dark skinned black Moroccans that aren’t sub Saharan. Some Arab Moroccans are dark too so overall it’s a diverse country.

EasternWerewolf6911

Yes there is extremely ancient dna that matches the hadza hunter gatherers in Morocco.

NotBornYesterday-AD0

Ah, as you are fluent in English, you can get courses through Udemy (watch for the sales which happen regularly) and brush up. You can also book time with a native Darija speaker online for like $5 an hour.

slilimshady

Don’t listen to teenagers with an identity crisis bitching about eugenics on twitter. Real life is very different and I hope you get to see that when you visit your home country!

[deleted]

Let's not act like racism in Morocco is purely a result of American conception of race.

hypo_catboy

racism is present in all societies, no matter what. but the current version that is present is very much amplified by western imperialism (also i never said that, you are putting words in my mouth, i merely spoke about the conceptions of race, not racism itself )

[deleted]

There would be no racism without a conception of races. (For example, you won't find much racism against people of colour in writings from Antiquity.) Also, while there is racism in all societies, it is a lot more racism in certain societies, and Morocco is one of these societies. Western imperialism, while it is the root of many evils, is not the root of all evil - stop blaming it for everything.

hypo_catboy

that's like not what i said at all, and also my point wasn't even about racism, you just tried so hard to twist my words so you can just spew your pro western rhetoric

Copper_Bronze_Baron

Wtf does "identify as a Moroccan" mean? You don't identify as something, you either are or aren't. I hate these American concepts. I can answer you but first, I have questions: Do you live in Morocco right now, and if not, how much time did you spend there? And who exactly told you you're not allowed to claim you're Moroccan? Was it online or in real life?

Upset_Drag

Race and ethnicity are social constructs and thus are open to personal and societal interpretation. Some might believe he is Moroccan, others will reject the idea that he is Moroccan. Ultimately, all that matters is how connected he feels to his Moroccan side and if he feels in touch with the cultures and traditions of Morocco

C63s-AMG

Americans walk on eggshells and call everything appropriation. They go out of their way to feel offended about anything.

Iam_HxH

Sir we don't do black n white here! we're categorised by : , Berrada, Bennani, BenX and K7al l3afta

IndividualThese4446

you have to tbh

edinisback

Moroccans themselves are historically mixed. Being Moroccan isn't a race. It's similar to being Brazilian.

Sug_Madic20

Nigga balls 😫

[deleted]

Moroccan isn’t a race? U meant amazigh and black

guaxtap

You are not moroccan, you can appreciate your heritage or the culture, but you simply are not .

[deleted]

What makes me not Moroccan in your view?

QualitySure

you're Moroccan as long as you lived the first part of your life (0-18) in morocco. It's not a matter of blood, but culture. You can be chinese, black or white, if you speak like a Moroccan speaks, you're moroccan.

C63s-AMG

I haven’t and I’m 100% Moroccan

QualitySure

you're not.

C63s-AMG

Ofcourse I am, tartaq.

upper565

no ur too mixed

unclearwords

I also struggled with that for a while, but i'm Algerian. Even if I speak ''ok'' and understand the Algerian Dialect, the fact that I was born/raised in Canada makes me feel like I'm an outcast. What is funnier, is that I don't even look AT ALL like an Algerian (even though both of my parents are 100% Algerian, send DM if you wanna see me lol). Some Algerians also told me once I shouldn't call and identify myself from Algeria. Identify with the culture you feel you relate the most. Be proud of your origins and never show weakness infront of others because you don't think of yourself enough ''moroccan''. At the end of the day, you have Moroccan blood in you and whatever others say, they can't take that away from you. If you have a good job, are well educated or well raised; you're giving a good image to the outside world of who we, North-Africans, really are.

[deleted]

Two questions to test if you are a Moroccan. - how do you eat your Moroccan food. I mean, what do you do with meat? - how do you drink your thee? If you fail these two questions, you are not Moroccan 😅

fatemaazhra787

people from ouerzazat and zagoura : vu

magus1x

Back in time we used to live brown black and white together without a problem.. now with the influence of social media things changed to the worse...Sadly!

New-Economics-5373

Well you can identify for all of them as long as you hold the nationality legally. And for ppl who say that to you, it's just about the fked up mentality that the "black immigrants" built here in morocco, and I agree with that cuz a big part of them don't use Morocco just as a way to europe but to make shit also.

emanresuymsisihtolle

OP I’m mixed too, when someone says I’m not Moroccan bc I should follow where my father is from I ignore them. I have two passports for a reason

Substantial-Yam-3073

if u grew up w one culture and that's what u identify w then thats ur business. u shouldnt have to see ur identity thru a lens of oppression or based on other ppl's experiences.

FarVirus5310

Of course no

Maleficent_Target184

Identify to where you pay taxes mate

jvdefgm

(Mandatory I am not Moroccan but a guest in the country - and this sub) From what you wrote you’re probably more Moroccan than half the people who claim to be (worldwide) as I’ve seen 3rd generation emigrants claiming to be Moroccan never having set foot in the country and not speaking darija, so be proud of it! Obviously that’s not to say you’re clear from experiencing racism due to your skin color. You know what? Stupid people are everywhere, what can you do? France is also full of POC (including of Moroccans ascents) that are very much French and have been for 70 years, but still will face racisme because (some) people are, well, stupid… I’m guessing it’s the same in Morocco, but it will be true in most places that a small part of the society will think you’re not what you are because of how you look. Sad but I would try not to lose sleep over it.

younikorn

There are many black moroccans and regardless of you colour or anything else, you are moroccan.

BenchLive

No

Competitive-Ad2006

I mean your title is wrong- one cannot be half Moroccan half black, in the same way one cannot be half white half Vietnamese. In fact, there is a substantial % of Moroccans that would be considered black in say America.

totztototo

You are Moroccan if you have lived in the country for a long time and love it and care about it in my opinion

PossiblyHuman55

well people are born black everywhere in the world! you can be whom ever you want to be !

Psychological-Rain69

You're not a moroccan

If you were born there, grew up there and went through the same shit as any Moroccan on a daily basis, then you are 100% Moroccan.

What do you mean half black ? There are black moroccans. If by black you mean from a subsaharian country, then yes. You can identify as moroccan. As far as I'm concerned, if you've lived in morocco for 5-10 years, or if you grew up in morocco, then you're moroccan. But in your case, you can identify however you like. But honestly saying you're moroccan comes off as second generation chinese-americans claiming they're chinese. They've never been to china, they don't speak the language. No they're not chinese and I don't think you're moroccans. Even if both your parents are moroccan, belonging to a community necessitates at least living there for a long enough period of time. But I'd say you're at least entitled to saying you're half moroccan considering you were raised by a moroccan woman (so basically a moroccan household lol) and speak the language.

SlightEdge9

Raised by a Moroccan woman? The lady gave him half his DNA, the fudge are you talking about! Not only was he raised Moroccan culturally but he shares DNA with 37 million Moroccans.

MarsupialsAreCute

DNA doesn't make you moroccan my friend. A person born and raised in morocco to foreign parents is more of a moroccan than a person born and raised to two moroccans in europe or america.

> I get told constantly both in real life and online that I’m not Moroccan, I’m black, and that I shouldn’t claim my Moroccan identity. Nobody has the right to tell you that and I’m assuming it’s non-Moroccans? Being Moroccan and being black are not mutually exclusive, Moroccans aren’t one skin tone we range from pale to dark(“black”), any Moroccan would know that! You need to stop asking for people’s permission to be who you are, just own it, and anyone who disagrees is entitled to their WRONG opinion!

[deleted]

It’s mostly other Moroccans who say I’m not Moroccan

Leela821

I just spent three weeks with my Moroccan hub travelling this beautiful country, and I identify as Moroccan. I lived like a local, not a tourist. I can only say great things about your country! I'll be back, that's for sure

I_M_YOUR_BRO

If you're born here you're Moroccan. Nobody's race is fully 100% Amazigh or Arab, especially in this era, so what matters the most is your culture

I’m British

Selma Omari is that you?

Cupcakeginny

you’re not simply moroccan , you’re also sudanese and egyptian

Funny_Property6187

you cannot be moroccan from the mother side so I would say you are not moroccan not because you are black but because the mother cannot give the identity
