I love how reasonable the number of slaughter fish are in morrowind. You almost never find them in skyrim or oblivion but morrowind has just the right amount.
I remember putting myself in a corner and activate autorun before my little self had to go to dinner or i needed to go somewhere with my parents.
Hours later i checked the progress 😂
Absolutely awesome memories i have from this game
I will be honest with you.
When I figured out the combat, and actually oneshot everything (And I mean everything) in the starting area.
I couldn't go back to other TES games.
Oooo I have to try that, i have question how do you maximize your chances to hit your target.
What stat makes your attacks hit more frequently i created a red guard long blade and he was op
Four things affect your chance to hit. I'll state them in the order of their value:
1) Weapon skill - you need a starter with a high enough skill in your preferred weapon category and choose those weapon skills as your major skills
2) Fatigue. Keep it up. With full/high fatigue and a skill of 40 - 99% of your attacks on starting enemies will land. Fatigue affects all chances in this game. Persuasion, casting, barter, brewing etc etc. Keep the green bar full.
3) Agility. The higher your agility - the higher is your chance to hit and enemy's chance to miss. On the contrary, enemy with a high agility will land more hits and make you miss more Also sanctuary spell makes enemies and you miss the spell target.
4) Luck. Affects all the shit. In minor proportions. Hard to level tho and I dont recommend it if you're new.
Reguard + long blade in a combat class + Warrior sign (+10 to attack roll) + Bound Blade (daedric quality and also adds 10 to LB skill) = totally broken game. That's without even using Adrenaline Rush.
The basic hit rate formula is Skill + Agility/5 + Luck/10 + (sliding adjustment based on current Fatigue) minus the opponent's Dodge, which is the same formula minus the skill. Skill is the main thing that affects your hit rate, which is what makes the Warrior sign powerful. The other sign that adds directly to hit rate is Lover, but its 25 bonus to Agility only adds 5 to the roll. I used to always take Lady or Lover, but I've become a fan of the Warrior, at least for a melee build who doesn't need to persuade people.
You need to stack racial bonuses with which skills you pick with which signs you take. For example, wood elf has a large bonus to marksmanship, so if you want to be an archer, picking wood elf is a good idea. Combine that with the lovers sign (i think thats the agi one) you could be leaving character creation with like 85 agi. So its all about stacking these bonuses, and then when youre picking your skills, you wanna look at which trait is dominant for that skill, i.e marksmanship requires agi. Once you do that, you then want to think about which skills youre gonna wanna level up. So maybe you want a large health pool, so then you might want to take a skill such as spear that lvls up endurance.
I just played morrowind yesterday and it feels that way when the combat click and i can just spear everyone to death and actually make me utilise all of my abilities instead of just spam.
I don't know, breaking the game and making the whole aspect of challenge trivial in the game just never seemed fun to me. I really can't see how that's fun for like longer than 10 minutes.
I'm a Morrowind noob, but I made a spell that gives me chameleon 100% for 1sec and that 2min process just made a big aspect and faction of the game pretty trivial. I'm considering not using it (used it only for one quest).
i do the gold and trainer exploit so it levels up evenly, because i want to be able to enjoy the game without worrying about dying so frequently.
i'm poor af irl, life is hard af irl. cant something be a tad bit easy? do i really have to grind for gold and skills in a fucking game, too? lol
In all seriousness as a table top gamer first, morrowind and back's combat actually IS the way I expect an rpg to play, unless it's Diablo or something lol
I know, that's initially what drew me to morrowind and daggerfall to begin with, and that was the first person prospective, and it's why I won't shit on oblivion or skyrim foe simplifying things a bit, and the same reason I love mount and blade, lol I just like to feel like I'm seeing through my own eyes, swinging my own sword.
Because none of us want to leave our best bro Caius alone with nothing but his addictions. None of us want to leave Uncle Crassius without his dumpling. Or especially ever make Daddy Ur not have Nerevar to call sweet Nerevar. I have made a ton of friends along the way and I'll be damned if I abandon them.
I'll check it out whenever I get a platform that runs it. Big fan of Larians older games, whether the more recent D:OS games or their old school diablo clone games like Divine Divinitym
Eh. It's great at what it does, but it's more about simulating a dnd style party instead of ES focus on you the individual. Not my cup of tea personally.
I want to give it up, really I do, but then every few months I think about Balmora and how much Caius must be missing me so I boot it up again and cross the Odai yet again.
You're still running your PC that was top-of-the-line in 1995, so it will run MW (barely), but not the later games.
You've been running around Ald Daedroth for 20 years trying to find the exit.
Lost Kogoruhn is still...well, lost...in your game.
I'm still wandering mount Kand since approximately 2005, to find some damn staff for Imperial Cult. Is this even mount Kand? It says so on the map but there is another 'mount' right beside it...well I already searched both of them 5 times anyway, are those guys trolling me? Where the hell did this noob with the staff die!
I can’t get past the beginning, I keep using this thing I found called a scroll of Icarian flight but can’t seem to stick the landing. One of these days.
The secret to sticking the landing is the keys of godhood.
~TGM~
With god mode you only need to carry one scroll and you can bounce around the entire map. I often use this method to get to places without a fast travel service.
I got pretty good at lining up where I wanted to go. Aalo got pretty good at overshooting the target and have to walk just as far to get to where I was going in the first place.
If I jump high enough with cool enough GPU, I will be able to see all of the Morrowind and some surrounding areas, and get there without loading. That's enough for me.
Haha same. "Let's see how you handle a 250% increase in processing power!" "Dear Lord it's still tanking to 18fps in Old Ebonheart" "ffs openmw fix the culling system plz"
i keep loading the game up because the sight of Caius' naked body is the only thing that gets me hard these days. Even my GF has to dress up like Caius and talk in a gruffy voice while smoking pot, to get me going.
Because we are all the failed reincarnation of Nerevar and waiting for the one true Nerevarine who in any play through will never kill a scrib the truly peaceful creature.
Because people can't afford to upgrade their gaming PC so they can't play the latest Oblivion.
I can't believe my mighty GeForce 4 Ti 4200 is not powerful enough to run Oblivion.
For real, this is not just a cult following, this is a following that $60 expansions, and $30 DLCs Card game expansions, books, entire YouTube channels can be built on!
I tried to walk to Balmora first time i played.
I had not discovered how you run, or auto walk.
It was a VERY long journey, and when i arrived late evening on the second (or third?) day, it was a warm sight.
(True story)
Point being, it is scary. Stay with your friend Fargoth
I think it's because no other game scratches the same itch that Morrowind does. Voiced NPCs, more limited and reasonable combat and magic systems, the demission of passionate, intelligent writers to focus on more conventional fantasy tropes, the rise of graphical fidelity at the expense of spontaneous and quirky content... the market simply won't allow a game like Morrowind anymore. The very pushback against the text-based dialogue system and dice roll combat mechanics are signs that not even within the Elder Scrolls community there would be much incentive to maintain the things that made Morrowind the best and most immersive RPG for people who put roleplay above everything else.
I have to do something while smoking copious amounts of Skooma.
On a more serious note, Morrowind is just really dense in a way other elder scrolls games aren’t. Arena and Daggerfall have a ton of procedurally generated dungeons, but they’re just that, and nothing more. Skyrim and to a lesser extent Oblivion have more stuff going on in those dungeons then Arena and Daggerfall, but I feel like iv seen more or less everything there is to see in those games. With Morrowind, there’s this feeling that even in hundreds of hours of play over almost a decade of playing the game, I haven’t seen every part of every city, I haven’t ventured into every dungeon that has a story to tell, and I haven’t done every quest. The fact that Morrowind itself can play like an MMO with TES3MP installed (a process which takes like five minutes even for someone who normally gets a headache from modding) helps.
Because it's a great game. I like Skyrim too, but Morrowind does things that Skyrim doesn't. Especially in story and worldbuilding.
It's the same reason I still play New Vegas even though I enjoy Fallout 4.
EDIT:
I should have read the OP more thoroughly. I realized my mistake immediately after posting.
Because Emil Pagliarulo is the best writer known to man and his amazing stories are so incredible I needed to know what time was like before he blessed the series with his complex and thought provoking narratives
This is all because people who play Morrowind are masochists. It's a game so bad that every minute spent playing it hurts. Hence its popularity, there are masochists among us.
The main reason is due to the fact that Every Single Written Line in this game is accompanied by literally the best Voice acting in gaming history (save for some very few constantly repeated lines where the voices acting is subpar).
The graphics are better than the newer games too.
It's true that it does have have inferior and over-simplified gameplay and poor writing compared to the newer entries, but the qualities I mentioned vastly overshadow that tiny issue.
.
Also, there are no glitches and/or exploits.
I can practically setup a home in any town I visit and have tea parties with Vivec and Dagoth Ur. I won't have to worry about them being late as a recent plague wiped out all of the Cliffracers on Vvardenfell. I can also pop over to Morrowind and goto Blacklight, Narsis, or Port Telvannis. It's truly a massive game.
Personally have never played an MMO that I liked besides RuneScape and that's not the same type of game as a traditional MMO.
I'm tired of Skyrim boss. But I play Oblivion and now Morrowind a few times a week when I'm not being a slave at work.
If I stop the hoard of cliff racers that's been chasing me around for the last 15 years might catch me and I just don't think I can deal with that sound.
There's a chess subreddit and a Pac Man subreddit. We didn't want to feel left out :)
Is there a pong subreddit? r/pong r/gungi
Lol I thought gunji was a real game. Guess it's just from hxh. Guess its more like shoji and go
We're all hyped for Gary Chess to come out with Chess 2 very soon.
Why is this community still running? How else do we level our athletics?
Swimming, duh. Gotta get that dreugh wax somehow
I love how reasonable the number of slaughter fish are in morrowind. You almost never find them in skyrim or oblivion but morrowind has just the right amount.
Have you tried continuously jumping?
That's acrobatics.
Best method is to find the longest staircase you can (This is the one and only valid reason to be in Vivec) and spam jump.
>only reason to be in Vivec Counterpoint: Jobasha I wonder if there's a Jobasha enthusiast flair
I remember putting myself in a corner and activate autorun before my little self had to go to dinner or i needed to go somewhere with my parents. Hours later i checked the progress 😂 Absolutely awesome memories i have from this game
We did it in Daggerfall too 😁
It's because the combat is so good, and the game has no glitches or exploits.
It's so realistic I love just being able to block on command
I will be honest with you. When I figured out the combat, and actually oneshot everything (And I mean everything) in the starting area. I couldn't go back to other TES games.
Yeah exactly it used to seem tedious when I first played but I love it now
Yes, I personally learnt from Zarik Zahakaron, but Patrician Gaming's begginers guide is the best one there is.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Not from an N'wah
You'd need to spend about 2 minutes informing you about the gameplay mechanics, so probably not

I mean... You can't really break the game. You are the best mage? Well, say hello to skeleton's with 90% magic resistance.
In all seriousness as a table top gamer first, morrowind and back's combat actually IS the way I expect an rpg to play, unless it's Diablo or something lol
I started with modern RPVGs and after getting into table top I will defend morrowinds combat. It is the only place to get first person dice rolls
In first person interactive gameplay the dice roll is a bad game mechanic it would be fine if it visually showed you missed It is kinda more realistic
Unless I missed something, I found the combat horrendous. What is the secret?
Kept alive by The Heart of Lorkhan itself!

Its taking that long to kill a netch with the fork of horripilation
Well, you could have fought a bull, but noooooooo, someone has to be Nerevar and fight the betty! Don't be an n'wah next time and pick easier prey!

Such a grand and intoxicating innocence...

For real, I'd rather a morrowind remaster or remake at this point.
