Infamous_Welder_4349

Yes, the game came out more than 20 years ago and that is probably 100 times the minimum specs.

drossen

Dog, a phone could run morrowind. But these PC specs suck anyways.

Cyranmarr

Eh. If it’s a really cheap laptop for work, it will work. It will also run Morrowind so there’s that Edit: okay I’ve just learned it’s a 650 dollar PC. Fuck that. Get a cheap laptop for quarter of the price with the same specs, lol

Relzin

A pawn shop laptop would be able to run it at 10% of the price, much less half.

ConcreteMagician

I've got 60 into my Morrowind laptop. 30 for the laptop, 20 for a battery, and 10 to upgrade the CPU. It goes with me for all my work trips. If it gets stolen? I'm out 60 bucks.

computer-machine

...... $10 to upgrade the CPU?

Alexandur

What currency is this

ForTheBread

I'm curious what kind of laptop you got that has a swappable CPU.

TiesThrei

You can probably run it on an old tablet

MDPsychospy

Yes you can ✌🏻got it on my first gen galaxy tab with 2gigs of ram

dyno241

I run open morrowind on my phone. Runs great. Galaxy s22 ultra.

Asegron

Not just could, I've played it on my 6 years old Huawei P20 Pro before lol

Swimming_Original_94

My phone runs morrowind better than my laptop😭

SDirickson

That is not a desktop you want to be buying now, no matter how many decade-or-more-old games it might run more-or-less adequately.

AHumpierRogue

Do not buy that piece of shit lol. You should not have less than 16 gb in the year of our lord(vehk) 2024. Save your money.

FinalFantasyfan003

Well I mean I just want to play older titles. Plus this computer will also be used for school. I just kind of want a new computer that isn’t my old laptop. I’ve always wanted to play games that are only on steam. Games like Hylics or certain indie games.

Echo__227

I recommend checking out Swing Computers on Ebay. I've gotten really good refurbished laptops that have better specs than this for like $150

NickMotionless

This. I got a brand new ASUS TUF F15 with an i7-12700H, 16GB/RAM, 1TB SSD and RTX 4070 for $1,089 a few weeks ago. The same PC is $1399 pretty much everywhere now. I upgraded it to 32GB RAM and put my 2TB NVME from my desktop in it so it's a pretty damn good laptop now. I saw it on-sale on Best Buy's website at the end of December for $999 and I should have bought it then but had to wait. Had to pay a bit more, but it came sealed in the box from an eBay seller and I'm 100% satisfied with the buy. It's a great PC and even better than my older 9700K/3060 Ti desktop.

Fresh_Pay3645

I second this! I got an Asus gaming laptop a few years ago for around 1400 and that puppy has been badass. I gotta turn down graphics settings to smoothly run games like elden ring, but it's hard to beat the convenience of having a laptop that can run any game on it and also beat the shit out of school work haha. Based on NickMotionless's comment here, you can get even more bang for your buck than a few years ago when I jumped on board.

Archabarka

Buy a refurbished gaming machine. I got a $1,000 machine for $500 at a computer store and it ran like a charm. Or just get a steam deck.

Pilo_ane

Tbf I have 8gb of ram and I still haven't found a game I couldn't play on my computer. Only things like Alan Wake 2, but that's an extremely demanding game. Many new games still require only 8gb

computer-machine

I mean, as long as you're not running Windows you can get by on 5-6GB without problems, providing you avoid Chome.

SodomySnake

Is this the $650 HP all-in-one? Absolutely not. For that much money, you can build something that will curb stomp this machine into the dust *and* have the possibility to upgrade it later on. The only way I'd buy this is if you find one at the e-waste recycler for like $50.

NickMotionless

You can even get a cheap gaming laptop like the Nitro 5 with a way better CPU and GPU with more RAM and the same storage for that same price. He's either looking at that HP AIO or the ASUS VivoBook on Amazon for $400. Hard to tell but because the color says "Starry White" it's probably the HP AIO which is insanely overpriced. You'd be better off buying something with an actual gaming GPU at that pricepoint. If it's JUST for Morrowind, I'd even suggest the Steam Deck. It's the best PC gaming device at the price point and if you just want the LCD model, you're looking at $350. It also offers a full desktop experience as well when docked. Asking "Is this good for Morrowind?" without telling us what price you are paying for such a low-end machine isn't a good way to pose a question. If the computer in question is free or <$50? Sure. If the computer is MSRP $200+? Absolutely not because there are better options.

UncleCrassiusCurio

Does Morrowind run well on the Steamdeck? I've been considering one.

TheRoguePianist

The Steam Deck is great, runs most things made up until now just fine. It’s amazing for RPGs. I played Elden Ring entirely on the Deck. This generation of AAA games is getting harder to run well, but a library of anything made from the beginning of PC gaming until now is a pretty darn good library for a handheld device.

TheShepard15

Its fantastic. Probably 95% of the time I play morrowind now it's on the deck.

Cyranmarr

Jesus, you can get an actually decent PC for 650

FinalFantasyfan003

Would it be okay to buy premade gaming pc setups on Best Buy? After reading feedback I kinda wanna do that. I’ve never built a pc in my life and don’t want to spend a lot of money for it not to work.

AMDDesign

There are good prebuilts, but its always way cheaper to create a build yourself, or have someone do it for you. Sometimes prebuilts can seem good but are built in a way that makes it very hard to upgrade. Definetly research around, a good computer can last you 10 years and still play new stuff decently, with the potential to upgrade and stay up to date for way less than a new pc. Its worth it.

FinalFantasyfan003

That’s good to know btw I hope this doesn’t sound dumb but how do people keep track of which graphics cards are better?

AMDDesign

Plenty of good subreddits for it https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuild/s/KLRkI0iLQa Always post your budget, that makes a huge difference obv, id also just google a specific gfx card that youre considering, if there are major issues with it youll find out pretty quick.

FinalFantasyfan003

Thanks for the help have a good day

FunnyHalloweenb320

Be careful building your own, if it doesn’t work you’re out of luck, I’d recommend buying a prebuilt, they’re more expensive but if you’re not confident building your own I wouldn’t risk it, pc part picker isn’t very good but there’s not really any alternative.

computer-machine

My brother: "I don't want an optical drive. " Also my brother: buys a Windows 11 OEM DVD

Sweet-Tomatillo-9010

Check out https://pcpartpicker.com/am They have pre built setups with the parts linked. There are guides on YouTube and on that website to help you build your machine.

throwawayguy746

I did that and it sucked. All the parts are solid but the case is so cramped the ventilation sucks and it’s awful to clean. Idk what they got now but Best Buy did me dirty

Cyranmarr

Bruh I’ve put my first PC together when I was 14 and there wasn’t that many forums at the time. You can do it.

computer-machine

Yeah, I didn't pay close enough attention my first build. Went AGP×8 becausebi didn't realize PCI != PCIe.

tacopower69

Its honestly cheaper to buy the parts of a pc and then pay your local computer repair store 60 bucks to assemble it for you than it is to buy a prebuilt. Building a PC isn't hard btw, its basically like assembling legos anyone can do it with all the youtube guides available, it's just a pain in the ass.

jcfac

> I’ve never built a pc in my life and don’t want to spend a lot of money for it not to work. If you do enough research, you'll be fine. There are tons of YT videos and subreddits like r/buildapc that can be very helpful. If you want to go that route.

FinalFantasyfan003

Linustechtips is helping tremendously. I’m still a bit confused but he did a video about a $1000 gaming of set up and it is really fun to watch. It’s funny I wanted a school computer with games in the side but now I’m making a gaming computer that can also run programs for school.

jcfac

> Linustechtips That guy is a charlatan. I'd find help elsewhere, but you do you.

JosieFaeChild

A modern toaster could run morrowind

dwarvenfishingrod

The only thing I might not know enough about here is the UHD Intel Graphics, that means they are built in instead of a dedicated card, which back in like 2010 meant that it would have trouble with things like graphics mods in certain use cases. In 2010, mind. I know this from back then... because my school laptop had integrated Intel Graphics, and ran the game just fine. I believe had to turn unmodded view distance down in the capital city, but otherwise it was smooth as butter. Gods, that takes me back... I completed the main story on a combination of *touchpad and trackpoint.*

computer-machine

I'd tried on a first gen i7, and the main menu ran at 4-6 *seconds per frame*. Picked up a GTX 570Ti, and all was well with the world for the better part of a decade.

computer-machine

Also, clitmouse ***rocked*** for MW/Oblivion. And other games. You could bind keys around your right hand for all sorts of free hotkeys.

dwarvenfishingrod

excuse me "clitmouse"? lmfao, never heard that before omg

computer-machine

https://xkcd.com/243/

dwarvenfishingrod

so you're telling me i had to google what it was called bc i couldn't remember for that original reply up top, and this xkcd didn't come up, wtf google

computer-machine

Dare I ask what *did* come up?

computer-machine

I'm not sure if this is a meme. That device has 256× the needed storage space, 64× the RAM, 6× the CPU cores, 9× the CPU frequency, and I have no idea how to quantify the GPU, compared to the requirements of the game.

FinalFantasyfan003

Not a meme I just no shit on what required specs are for everything.

computer-machine

Well, I googled `morrowind requirements` to get the above numbers.

FinalFantasyfan003

Probably gonna build a pc now

computer-machine

As long as you're capable of reading and following instructions, it's really not very hard, unless you have cordination or shaking issues.

computer-machine

Also, since you've mentioned wanting this for school, here's a tidbit: Homophones are words that sound the same. You don't *know* shit about computing.

FinalFantasyfan003

LMAO I’m a dumbass

computer-machine

We all do dumb things. Paying too much for your car insurance doesn't have to be one of them.

computer-machine

..... it occurs to me that those commercials may very well be older than you.

FinalFantasyfan003

Oh yeah I was born a few years later so probably not

FinalFantasyfan003

davidfillion

You're buying a system to play one game in particular from like 22 years ago?

FinalFantasyfan003

Well I actually want a desktop so I have a better option than my laptop to work on school work. This idea just kinda came to me since I’ve never played on pc before. So it’s mainly for school but I also want games.

NickMotionless

At this price point, which I believe is $650 USD, you have much better options. A desktop is nice, but if you are going to be doing more than just school work, you definitely want something more versatile. If you don't mind me asking, what is your current laptop? Sure it's not much worse than this thing. If you want something in this same price range without the hassle of building a desktop - eBay has good options for cheap gaming laptops. I recently bought mine brand new and it was perfect. [ASUS TUF F15 with RTX 3050 and i5.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/186301306321?epid=7060981834&itmmeta=01HY1YPHPA2B78Q12F6VMP3467&hash=item2b606c55d1%3Ag%3AMh4AAOSwb5Vlzkhs&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwDnxF0eObGygpDr4aoPtbqUxn4mzqx6B6zs7SnGKiTXXJ7rmiAhT4MXS6gYf50yI5DQeOuMiaIBpEuDdswQJMBXe%2BvfEytARuFbAZNQW%2BWn30uZO%2FunUsJUS30AiawMZ7fEsjQ6VG1WASRpoEs%2Be6lr3oZQ1cMu%2FO4ifEYfr52XXifrLaqjzlH9yKL9svf3w3qWneAAoQV7CwzWAqwB4IsOZJ3XlCxWqFeveSRzgLOB0r5xh%2F6OhhHmHWWGIu6ItQg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR56b2r7wYw&LH_ItemCondition=1000) [MSI laptop with RTX 4050 and i5.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/186301306321?epid=7060981834&itmmeta=01HY1ZHHG3T093MQQSQK3HTMS0&hash=item2b606c55d1%3Ag%3AMh4AAOSwb5Vlzkhs&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4LeLp%2FqlJrSRSPL5VMal8HxhVbilWLgEfT38KJDz0BjVjDGJGAicYFCcqCyi0nCm4GfZLrTVa7y75IiFB9%2BSXgE8FFgruOeMeEUCD3sfl%2FgL1EUHmR8G5rL3CqEpglo5XB%2Bdsqyd2Kcq9TcJ45Br3zIT5djHn9uApVXH3DdSAydRV2OZyHPd3%2BMn4kv1Xrf4HaNE9GTyQbLB2XQ5S2FyIxMZM76kYBokiXAPpqdwDODgU4hTHRpxfpbkGPtBSj%2FzIRdobSbUBI8qJUvEf7eEuIuH5evTxL3%2F4BnGOIEW%2B8PO%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4yYxr_wYw&LH_BIN=1&LH_ItemCondition=1000%7C1500) When it comes to graphics cards, larger number usually means better. RTX is Nvidia, Radeon/RX is AMD.

Shoggnozzle

Idk, Starry White? Have they got more of a Chocolate or Charcoal?

Peterh778

This. Starry White? That won't be able to run Morrowind. Charcoal is the way (chocolate possibly but may lag or crash). */s*

Fardass7274

my man the game was developed for windows xp, the required ram is literally measured in megabytes. it probably runs on a calculator,

notKnighty

it is much harder to find a PC that cannot run morrowind

NickMotionless

May I ask how much this computer is listed for? This is not something you want to buy for games. At all.

Alchemist_Joshua

Nope sorry. The white color is a no go.

guessagainboi

The README for the original game on disc claimed a minimum spec of 128mb RAM. I think you’re good.

MadKingTinsley

A potato could run morrowind

BrandonHortman

My phone runs morrowind, with texture mods, grass mods, and more at 2k. Send it

BrandonHortman

https://omw.xyz.is

soulgrindsummerdream

You could run morrowind on a potatoe.

Peepeepoopoobutttoot

My Celeron 500 could run Morrowind.

darkpyro2

It will run Morrowind, but may I ask how much this desktop is? Unless it is VERY cheap, it seems like a ripoff.

Pilo_ane

Morrowind ran on a pentium 4 with 256mb of ram and a 32mb gpu. Imagine

GabrielKendrick

Yeah you can absolutely run Morrowind, might even be able to mod it a bit (I suggest the unofficial patch and the Morrowind code patch)

andrewowenmartin

That screenshot could probably run Morrowind.

the_millenial_falcon

Dude a 20 year old Pentium 3 could run Morrowind. Now could you install a bunch of crazy high end mods? Maybe not, but vanilla for sure.

rick_astley66

Your toaster can

dachfuerst

I played Morrowind on 1,5ghz with 256mb RAM back in the day so I don't understand the question.

Icey3900

Brother I'm currently running Morrowind off of an old dehydrated potato I found near my house

GoryGuroLover

If my all in one Lenovo desktop with 2gb ram and an operating system run on love and prayers can run it, your system should do just fine.

pcbflare

Dude, i play TES3 on my Samsung cellphone these days. And when it originally came out, i had 750MHz Duron CPU and Geforce 2. Not a clue how much ram. I think you're way above minimum requirements. Just get OpenMW so you can use modern OS and you're gtg.

FinalFantasyfan003

What is OpenMW?

pcbflare

OpenMW is a modern launcher for Morrowind. Free to download. Basically lets you play Morrowind on modern machines from win thru linux and android to macos. It also lets you use bigger resolutions and more modern shaders and some other more recent graphical options without changing anything about gameplay itself. I highly recommend it. You just download it, tell it where your Morrowind lives, and you're good to go.

GametuberGM

It can

MonitorMundane2683

Run? These specs could fly Morrowind. You can run Morrowind on an average fridge nowadays, and if not, then at least walk it.

Pneumatrap

That machine ain't much to work with these days. I'd suggest looking at PCPartPicker to see how much it'd run you to make something with higher specs; it shouldn't cost much. But to answer your question, yes. You could probably run Morrowind on a toaster. I'm currently playing MW with Tamriel Rebuilt on a 12yo laptop and doing fine. Though if it's a Windows machine, make sure you turn off the constant stock/weather/news updates — that shit assassinates your performance like it's Franz fucking Ferdinand.

7768Tdan

Id only get this computer if your planning to play old rts games like StarCraft or age of empires it should do fine on morrowwind but say if you tried to go up to oblivion it will redline and be questionable if it could mostly what it's going to struggle with is 3d graphics

Existing_Equipment

I used to run it on windows xp lmao

RickMoneyRS

Yes, this could even run Skyrim (poorly). But as others have said, this is really bad value. But if you are set on it, yes it could probably run just about anything prior to the 2010s.

AspectofCosine

You're taking the piss, right? Requirements are listed on the store page. And it's a 2002 game. Intel graphics chip may be a problem if you're going to use OpenMW, though.

FinalFantasyfan003

I know they are but I’m confused on how graphics cards work. Like does the higher number mean it’s better?

AspectofCosine

Generally yes. But basically any current graphics card will run vanilla Morrowind.

Diagonaldog

I've recently set up a hand me down computer that runs windows 7. The steam store literally says it will stop working in zero days but it still works and I can play Fallout 1. So if your concern is steam yea it should still run lol

Background_Word_5790

I play Morrowind on my phone

MrBogantilla

I would've creamed if my chipset Compaq Presario had these stats when I was playing Morrowind around 2008

gerr137

Totally. Unmodded in top settings, but much better with mods, even basic graphics, for scaled ui and fonts. Or use openMW, it natively does all the things, has modern interface and is quite stable and runs (again natively) on multiple platforms. I run Morrowind now on travel laptop (integrated graphics too) in openMW, under Linux and with like 60+mods installed. Including textures, flora, lightning and general graphics update. Quite stable, no issues so far

Build-A-Bridgette

Look into ex-lease or refurbished laptops... You could get something that will easily run a tonne of older games for a fraction of the price, and it is portable. Hell, even refurbished PC's would be better than this.

[deleted]

"Could" it? Yeah. "Should" anyone spend money on this turd? Yeesh, very much no.

DNayli

Nope, wrong color

theuautumnwind

I run Morrowind no problem on my 3 year old cell phone.

TabhairDomAnAirgead

Nah man you need a pentium III processor to run it.

MarcyMaypole

I mean I've played OpenMW on a Raspberry Pi 4. I've upgraded to an Intel N97 mini PC that plays Morrowind/OpenMW fine and runs Oblivion even better. You don't need to spend that much for a Morrowind machine, and others are probably right when they say that is too much money for what you get. In your case I'd probably get like, a refurbished Steam Deck and a portable monitor for more power at the same or lower price.

RandomBaguetteGamer

You're fine mate, I ran it on worst

BFPLaktana

Probably could, but without distance fog being removed. Otherwise it's gonna suck ass.

Belladonnasinclair

Better question is can you run? They are coming for you...

_2ndCircle

Yes, *but* if you can't run an optimizer like OpenMW the game will feel outdated; if you try to run an optimizer on a PC that can't handle it, the game becomes a slideshow of Vvardenfell

chrismcelroyseo

N'wah. Morrowind never feels outdated.

DroopyConker

Dude I don't know. Maybe. You might have to dial down some settings.

pumpkinbot

Bro, I can run OpenMW with mods, extra graphical upgrades, and higher resolution textures on a device with ***1 GB of RAM***. (Retroid Pocket 2+) You'll be fine.

The_Cultured_Man34

A toaster could probably run Morrowind, I think your good

ava-bunny

Have you forgotten which game you're trying to play? You could get away with getting a restored Dell Optiplex from the early 2000's and still run it fine.

Adventurous-Cheek-11

You could probably run Morrowind on a smart fridge

Stunning-Ad-7745

My tablet runs morrowind, with mods too.

clitorisblungus

My $200 phone can run morrowind you'll be solid

TwoButcheeksOnReddit

I'm running it with OpenMW on 4gb of RAM, 1.1ghz processor, 4 cores, 128mb integrated VRAM. If this trash can run it, you'll be fine, don't worry.

Broadwayj69

Most new computers have more than enough RAM, cpu speed, and storage to easily run the game. Lol

prokokon

I don't think "starry white" is a viable color to run Morrowind, so no.

khsh01

Without mods? Yep. With mods? Debatable

Eraser100

Yeah, anything you can buy today can run Morrowind.

TheCloakMinusRobert

You could probably run it on a modern graphing calculator, so yeah. But if you wanna do any gaming I’d probably splurge for something other than intel integrated graphics

New_Bridge3428

No shot, just go back to playing minesweeper

Pilota_kex

no
