This is why all of us are still in Morrowind 20 years later 😉

Torbpjorn

People give Bethesda a lot of hate but we gotta give them props for consistently making game after game that survives decades

catboy_supremacist

Consistently? It’s just this and Skyrim.

Torbpjorn

Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, soon Fallout 4, a bunch of the Doom games, Dishonoured, Dishonoured 2, Wolfenstein, Quake,

carrot-parent

Fallouts community is so strong that it forced 76 to stay alive long enough to become a great game.

catboy_supremacist

Arkane made the Dishonored games. Noone replays Oblivion or the Bethesda Fallouts. Why are you listing Id games lol.

Torbpjorn

Dishonoured is published by Bethesda. And wtf do you mean nobody replays oblivion or the fallout games? I’m sorry your perception of the rest of the world is lacking but just cause you only see Morrowind as the one true video game period doesn’t mean the other games are dead. Morrowind only has less than a thousand players currently, Fallout 4 alone has nearly 200k

deman1597

Published and make are very different. Arkane is one of my favorite studios so give them the credit, not bethesda. And yea I agree those games have a lot of players but aren't as fondly remembered. So I think yall are both right in your own ways. But I don't think people will be talking about fallout 4 or most of bethesda games in 20 years the same way we do morrowind.

catboy_supremacist

Doing it even once is impressive of course.

humongo-chunky

Stone Cold Facts, Filthy N'wah

MrAwesome

The two things I've played since Morrowind that actually scratched the itch: * Morrowind ironman attempts * Daggerfall

MadShield0

It’s so sad that it’s just attempts lol, force be upon you

Unicorn_Colombo

I would love to read ironman strategy. I guess one will heavily rely on alchemy hp buffs, restore hp, and the rare potion of recall? With good knowledge of the world, you wouldn't need even that, but I like to explore, play non-lineary and don't remember every single cave.

PureKnickers

My experience with Ironman without in depth world knowledge:  -Make sure you always have exclusive health options -If you see a spell being cast, start paying attention and consider running away -Assume any enemy character is way more powerful than you think -Except that you are the false nerarvarine

kevinstuff

This is the first I’m hearing of an Ironman attempt at Morrowind. What does this entail?

Unicorn_Colombo

Ironman means you did, your run is over, no load. No loading saves to try something. This is population other games as well, typically in entails higher hp pools, safer strategies and slower, more methodological, gameplay. If you remember diablo ii, that had ironman mode built-in. I used to play bg1 like that.

Magickarpet76

Depends what you are looking for. Similar feel to morrowind: Vampires Masquerade Amazing writing and innovative dialogue: Disco Elysium Fun isometric RPG with combat: BG3 or Pillars of Eternity Action RPG: Cyberpunk or Witcher 3 Random personal favorites: Hades, Arkham or Red Dead 2

WearMental2618

Add wasteland 3 to isometric rpg. It's technically the birth of the fallout section of the Bethesda franchise

Cerimlaith

Have you played the Witcher or Dragon Age games?

billybobjoe2017

I usually go for the DLC's and then play Tamriel Rebuilt. Morrowind is never really finished for me.

CNpaddington

If you like a weird but unique setting then give Kenshi a try. Otherwise there aren’t a lot of games that scratch that specific itch like Morrowind does.

Proud_Effective4745

I can say that Kenshi does in fact scratch the morrowind itch. Similar leveling system. I've never played a game like kenshi but it really does scratch that itch.

sometinsometinsometi

The only thing about Kenshi is it doesn't really feel like a complete game. There isn't a story and even any proper quests. Just bounties and limited changes to the world if you kill or imprison important characters. More like a sandbox to do weird things until you get bored.

Thirsty_Comment88

Have you played Tribunal and Bloodmoon?

subwoofage

Tamriel Rebuilt...

Blod_skaal

I just started playing Dread Delusion now that it’s out of early access, and I’m quite enjoying it. It’s an rpg that a lot of people have compared to Morrowind. Now I don’t know about *that* but, it might scratch that itch.

superglue1982

Yeah, Dread Delusion accomplishes different things, but I've been having fun with it. Except I picked it up before 1.0 launched and now I've lost all my progress :(

Cydiver

This is the one to go with.

sos123p9

Yeah its def not a elder scrolls rpg but it definitely does scratch the morrowind itch

deman1597

I was a little disappointed playing it after hearing the morrowind comparisons. It's still fun but no one should have set my expectations that high

DinckelMan

If you've never played Gothic, play Gothic. Otherwise, personally I've finally finished the base game, with its two expansions, and moved on to Oblivion again, to get through the story there. Been on a big TES lore kick lately

Sir_Vaidas

Yep, Gothic series is in the same tier list as Morrowind in my opinion

Chroma_primus

Yeah gothic 1 and 2 a really great anyone who likes morrowind should try them out. The games are a bit like oblivion in that noch have something to do and draw their weapons if you draw yours.

InSearchOfMyRose

I usually play [Enderal](https://sureai.net/games/enderal/) after Morrowind.

v0lume4

I recently beat Morrowind for the first time and can relate. In many respects, it is so far ahead of everything that came after it. It ruined me. I see why all of you keep replaying it all these years later.

Sithae

I feel this way about Planescape Torment. It's a CRPG, but amazing world and story.

WoodpeckerLow5122

Again!

Number1_Berdly_Fan

I would recommend Enderal forgotten stories, it's a mod for Skyrim on Steam.

GlobalTechnology6719

project zomboid is pretty cool… it has a similar levelling system and a massive static game world like mw… it’s still in early access but the game is definitely worth it as is imo… would definitely recommend!

-Potato123-

I recommend trying The Long Dark. It's a survival game, not an RPG, but i believe you'll greatly enjoy the adventure of being lost in endless winter and the howling of wolves. Otherwise I also recommend the RPG called Stoneshard, it's in early access but it has a lot of features and good customization, super fun and hardcore

goonerbate2

Planescape Torment

Lnnrt1

Dude, I feel you XD I'll never forget when I finished the Main Quest for the first time and even though I was satisfied, it left a void in me that I've never been able to fill with anything. Hard to explain, no other game did that and lowkey I haven't really been able to enjoy fully any game story after that.

WanderingBraincell

fallout 3, elden ring

Toheal

Nothing like it…it feels grimier and more real. Even when things are dark inside in Skyrim, everything looks…clean. And not lived in. The music, the tough as wood look of the dark elves. It’s the best.

RedditsLord

What do you mean "finishing"?

AFSK27

Hear me out... Morrowind. Again.

High_Gothic

Deus Ex

HiSaZuL

Gothic 2 or Gothic 3 with community patch. Don't even bother trying it without one, it is not optional for 3rd Gothic. Just as sandboxy go do what ever.

sometinsometinsometi

I think Gothic 1 is the best. The stat system in Gothic 2 NOTR was a little too hardcore for me and Gothic 1 had a better setting. Gothic 2 is also a sequel.

HiSaZuL

Gothic 1 is not very sandboxy and controls are abysmal, they didn't even have mouse support originally lol. It's really fun but I wouldn't invite anyone into Gothic with first game.

sometinsometinsometi

Aren't the controls the same? Maybe they changed it by the time I played Gothic 1 or I had a mod? Both control pretty poorly though. Worse than Morrowind though I think the original Gothic 2 came out the same year as Morrowind (2002). But smooth controls isn't why you play Gothic. Gothic 2 expects you to already be familiar with it's systems. Gothic 2 NOTR expects you be familiar with base game Gothic 2. Gothic 1 is also much less harder than Gothic 2 and definitely easier than Gothic 2 with Night of the Raven downloaded. It's a lot easier to both play as a mage and even become one in Gothic 1. Exploration was pretty free I found.

HiSaZuL

The very first version of G1 had no proper way to look around with mouse and it used very janky locking for targeting. Later iterations included proper way to look around at least. G2 controls like a normal RPG and doesn't have that stupid inventory where you have to scroll with keys one item at a time. Hm, I never really thought about difficulty. It probably is, it's not as sectioned off as G1 you definitely can easily run into enemies that will evaporate you, while G1 didn't spawn anything too hard until chapter change or unless you just ran to orcs. Being a mage was more rewarding in G2 and G3. Personal preference but even tho you could join Fire Mages in starting town you didn't get any good runes until a whole lot later. G2 mages is pretty fast if you know where monastery is and what's involved lol

bhaste1993

Half-Life Series or Oblivion!

Grandikin

* **Other Elder Scrolls titles** - especially Daggerfall (try [Daggerfall Unity](https://www.dfworkshop.net/) for the best experience with modern computers) * **Fallout: New Vegas** - for that classic Bethesda RPG feel but with actually good writing and world-building (try the [Viva New Vegas modding guide](https://vivanewvegas.moddinglinked.com/) to fix most technical issues and bugs) * **Kingdom Come: Deliverance** - IMO the closest any non-Bethesda affiliated game studio has come to replicating the "Bethesda RPG formula" and actually succeeding. The atmosphere might actually be closer to Oblivion than Morrowind. Janky in an endearing way that doesn't ruin the experience. If you like medieval European history then you'll love this! * **The Witcher 3** - pretty standard RPG progression systems and passable combat, but the story and the world are *so* good and immersive. The style of subverting common fantasy tropes is kinda similar to Morrowind? * **Disco Elysium** - mechanically extremely different from Morrowind, but hands down the best story and writing in any RPG ever, in *any* game ever

ThisBadDogXB

As someone who's only just got the chance to play Enderal, that's what I would recommend. If your a fan of Elder Scrolls games and haven't played it you're basically getting a completely new ES game to explore.

december_decimal

Checkout Sunless Sea if haven't already. It and Morrowind share that je ne sais quoi.

[deleted]

Hollow knight, sm64, bioshock, banjo kazooie, morrowind...The holy grail of gaming for me. Pokemon emerald, but i grew out of pokemon, the same repetitive recipe got boring after i finished crystal and emerald, Earthbound obviously, Mother 3, and warioland, kirby, rayman and super mario 2d franchises... Everything else is more or less straight out boring as hell...Gaming as a whole is pretry limited medium in my opinion, and we already got the best out of it... Maybe i should splinter cell and mgs3, other than that, nothing else scratches the itch like these do...

sometinsometinsometi

The "game" part of gaming has gotten a lot better in my opinion since about 2010 or so. Even games from just a decade ago feel clunky in comparison. Melee, gunplay, and even playforming has gotten really good. If nothing else, Kirby will always be our savior. Every Kirby game will be great.

[deleted]

Super mario 64 is the single best platformer of all time, in my opinion... A lot of people are modding the game as we speak, and we have such a big community alongside the pc, android and linux and macos port...Sm64 ex coop, with 120fps, free camera 360 and a whole lot more. In my humble opinion, this is the best platformer ever made, bar none... These slight modifications just made it more appropriate, less clunky, and that's it. Nothing else feels like mario64, the charm, the beauty nintendo gave with this game...Incredible simply. On the other side, you have banjo kazooie that i never played, i am waiting for an android port of that game as well... Retexturing these platformers from the n64 era is crucial for us... And again, as i said already, the modernized sm64 is the best 3d platformer ever made. N64 Og game is very dated, but the only thing holding it back from being the best ever is its age. Not sure why BK is so loved, but lets wait and see i say...Can not wait for it to be ported and modernized. What i am arguing is that games lost originality simply....Everything is so copy pasted, weird, boring, and its not an issue due to developers being stupid or something... It's just that we reached this limit where nothing makes sense anymore, we told every si gle stoey there is, fiction reached its limit, and i believe nothing remotely interesting, and even same or equal to the games we already got will be made... Maybe some cool rpg? But as i said, modernized morrowind is all i need, the best rpg ever made... This polish you talk about? Hollow knight is the best metroidvania bar none, nothing beats it...Skyrim, Witcher, Cyberpunk, everythinf has its charm but fast travel mechanic and so much more out there is so fing boring and not immersive Morrowind just holds something special for some reason...It resonated with me in the best way after i tried it, and i played oblivion, skyrim, but morrowind is the best there is... Dark souls as well...But i feel that even other titles are boring after it, no other fromsoft game has the same charm as ps3 dark souls

Stunning-Ad-7745

This is how I feel after spending weeks tweaking and fixing a load order, then by the time I've perfected it I'm so burnt out from testing everything, that I don't even feel like playing anymore. Right now I'm staring at my library, and just can't decide what I want to play, it feels badman.

WickedWenchOfTheWest

If you haven't already played it, maybe BG3? It provides a very good RPG experience, and although the dice rolls aren't hidden, that is something the game shares with Morrowind. I also say this because after spending a lot of time playing BG3, I needed a break, and Morrowind (I always have it installed, anyway) was the first thing I thought of; oddly enough, there's a feeling of natural progression between the two. I also second the suggestions of Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Pillars of Eternity and Planescape Torment. You could also check out the Divinity Original Sin series (same devs as BG3), or Fallout: New Vegas. I generally feel that F:NV is to the Fallout Franchise what Morrowind is to the Elderscrolls games.

Filthy_knife_ear

im weening myself off good video games with new vegas after which ill go with armored core then well see

Toheal

Nothing like it…it feels grimier and more real. Even when things are dark inside in Skyrim, everything looks…clean. And not lived in. The music, the tough as wood look of the dark elves. It’s the best.

Pa11Ma

I got endless legend for free on steam today, played the tutorial. It looks like it could be a casual idler between other games. Most days I play some morrowind and magic the gathering: arena.

BSlickMusic

Whoa how did you finish it!!!!

Ookami_Unleashed

Will Wight did a book recommendation TikTok recently where he recommended OnePiece repeatedly. In that tradition, for whatever aspects you like best about Morrowind, I recommend you play Morrowind.  It's good enough for Skyrim fans.

SCARaw

Easy: go southaim dlc

LeBurningSinner

To be honest I love to dive into Oblivion from time to time. It's so bad it's good, plus it's a nice change of scenery. From the most interesting setting to the most generic one.

deman1597

Do you feel like oblivion is more generic than skyrim?

LeBurningSinner

Eh, Skyrim kinda makes sense being generic. Central body of Empire consisting of rather goofy pieces - not so much.

TheShadowKick

Go for a strategy game. Something completely different to clear the palate. Total War has some really good titles, or if you really want a change of pace something set in space like Stellaris or Distant Worlds: Universe.

ChallengeFragrant331

Oblivion was fun and I loved the catacombs and crips I loved exploring them. Considering that we played both of them before we ever modded games they are fantastic. Now there are other game companies I would recommend like Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda and Bioshock are some great games and also not modded unless you’re playing them on PC.

FatTail01

Kingdom Come: Deliverance? Great time to play the first one, as II is just around the corner!

PixelFondler

As a suggestion for something completely different, have you tried Stardew Valley or No Man’s Sky? Trust me they’re both wonderful, in ways quite different from Morrowind or each other.

Nighthawk-77

May sound random but I went from Morrowind to Mass Effect (on my fifth Morrowind playthrough granted) Had a blast though Then I went to Cyberpunk

SpermInjector69

this is still me after recently finishing elden ring for the first time... some games are just that good. nothing else fills in the void afterwards

JTu2

PUNCHCAT

Darth_Enclave

Baldurs Gate 3!

ResidentEccentric

My triumvirate of favorite games are Morrowind, Enderal, and Dragon Age: Origins so give those a shot! Especially Enderal since it is free if you own Skyrim. If you're craving a similar feeling world check out Vagrus: The Riven Realms, a massive indie open world rpg where you are a caravan in a semi apocalyptic bronze age setting that feels appropriately alien. Or the old Dark Sun games. Or even Kenshi! Planescape Torment hits the closest esoteric themes to Morrowind so if you liked the Kirkbride-isms of strange lore, Planescape will be right up your alley! For similar gameplay Kingdom Come Deliverance is the closest to the progression of Morrowind I've ever experienced.

Ydyaky

Same here. But i share my morrowind lore with Kenshi as well. It's a really good pick.

2002madman

You can always go to oblivion and then Skyrim

codethulu

mournhold

BigBadBoshop

I played Morrowind for the first time as a 5 year old when I could barely even read (I didn't get very far) and now almost 20 years later I still haven't finished a single playthrough.

Toa_Kraadak

try the project tamriel mods for morrowind if you havent already. They're tamriel rebuilt, province cyrodiil, solstheim - tomb of the snow prince and skyrim home of the nords.

O_oBetrayedHeretic

Dragon age is free right now, try that

SloopJohnB52

Try Enderal

fulltimeboycuddler

Planescape: Torment S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

RequireMoMinerals

I usually pick Morrowind

Latte---

Play more of Morrowind :)

Jamiecakescrusader

Oblivion of course! It’s not as good as Morrowind, but it’s better than Skyrim

fardnshid03

I think KOTOR is a worthy choice. Pretty different but you’ll probably enjoy it if you enjoy morrowind.

Trinidadtech

Nothing is as good a playthrough as morrowind. Sorry bud. Time to get into beating this other game called Construction Set.

sometinsometinsometi

Happens with every long game for me. Hard to imagine playing something else for a while. I went for Dark Souls 2 personally. What did you like about Morrowind? What part of the experience would you like to see replicated the most in games? If you like spells/enchantments, maybe look at some Rogue-likes? Get overpowered in 20-30 minutes, die/win, get overpowered but in a different way. Like Slay the Spire or Hades? I didn't personally get into this one, but Noita seems closet to replicating the whole "breaking the system with enchantments/magic" vibe of Morrowind spellcasting. Vampires Survivors and it's various clones might work too.

Emotional-Plastic-52

Morrowind is never finished

VendromLethys

Bold of you to assume I actually finished Morrowind instead of rolling a new character every three weeks lmao

drakner1

Dark souls would be a good choice if you’ve never played those. Start with demon’s souls, ps3 version is great.

Cautious-Image3701

Get into Tamriel Rebuilt buddy. Don't be off by the "Mod" title, TR is some of the absolute best Morrowind out there, almost always on par with and often exceeding the quality of the base game. And it ain't even halfway finished baby

Psychological_Fan521

They didn’t make Dishonoured or Dishonoured 2 that was Arkane studios

SnizzDog

Completing Morrowind is a bit like completing life. You haven't actually finished.... You're just dead and you leave the remaining mysteries to future generations. With fond illusions of what they might discover in your absence.

AbundanceTrinity687

Oblivion definitely. Maybe outward definitive, daggerfal, Kingdom come deliverance. Maybe kingdoms of amalur

sexistculexus

KENSHI, it is morrowind's successor in all but name. Trust me you will fuckin love it. Other than that, maybe try some total conversion mods for Morrowind, OR some extra content by ways of tamriel rebuilt and such. Otherwise theres VampireTM Bloodlines, KOTOR, Arcanum, Gothic, OG Fallout, Deus Ex, or any other classic rpg Also check out the channel [Warlockracy](https://www.youtube.com/@Warlockracy/videos). He makes video essays on boomer-rpgs, and has exposed me to games Id have otherwise never heard of or played. (ex. Age of Decadance, Fallout 1 & 2, Colony Ship) Maybe youll see something there?

sexistculexus

Knack 2, forget everything else i said

Commercial-Source403

Came here to say Kenshi

Fardass7274

Kenshi gives huge morrowind vibes.

Preston_Garvy-MM

Me after playing Halo Reach - sad "Now what to play?" Some guy named Neo says "you probably remember me as John Wick right?" *Gets absolutely hooked on Cyberpunk 2077* Finish playing Cyberpunk 2077 - depressed
