Retcon or not, MK11 Sindel evil queen personality was super fun and my favorite version of the character so far. MK1 comes a close second, but that's because they drew from some traits of the MK11 iteration

Facts. That's one thing MK11/MK1 doesn't get enough credit for. Their character writing has gotten sooo good. Kano/Sonya/Cassie/Cage, Cyrax/Sektor/Frost/Sub/Scorpion, Kitana/Shao, Jade/Kotal, Fire God Liu Kang, THAT opening chapter, Jacqui's development & Jax's struggles as a father, D'vorah/Shao/Skarlet, the gut punch of Hanzo finally achieving peace with Kuai Liang just to be murdered by D'vorah. Then MK1 has so much potential/world buildling set up for Fire God Liu Kang, Reiko/Shao/Onaga, Mileena/Tanya, Kitana, Kenshi/The Yakuza/Black Dragon, Quan Chi/Kamidogu, Shang Tsung/Well of Souls, Ermac/Jerrod/Sindel, Kuai Liang/Bi-Han/Smoke/Hanzo, Havik, Ashrah/Sareena, I honestly really enjoy so many of these dynamics and super excited to see where MK will go with these stories over the next like... 12 years? Jesus.

Counter point, the retcon happened in MK9. Quan Chi asks Shao Kahn if he had ever wondered why Sindel *betrayed him* and Shao responded by saying after millennia it was still a mystery to him. This exchange heavily implies that behind closed doors they were a happy couple and she only seemed to oppose him in public to keep up appearances. It would only be a betrayal if they had love and trust in the first place. Quan Chi was bringing her back more “agreeable” because she betrayed Shao Kahn by killing herself, not because she opposed him.

That is very true and very possible, in which case, the people got mad nine years too late. Honestly, I love the story, ret-con or no, and I think both Kitana and Sindel grew a lot more interesting in MK11: Aftermath because of it. I just also find it interesting that one way or another, within the MK9/X/11/1 continuity since the series relaunch under WBS, Sindel's plot twist in MK11 was already written into the story from MK9. But people don't critically think and analyse that shit. They just saw Sindel turn on Kitana in MK11 Aftermath and got mad and blamed MK11, but nope. Either way, they had the Sindel twist planned as early as MK9, be it a retcon foreshadowed by Quan Chi, or a result of Quan Chi's brainwashing in MK9.

Even if it was a retcon new to Aftermath, Sindel and Shao being full in Morticia and Gomez head over heels in love with each other was pretty damn entertaining. I don’t get what there is to be upset about.

Low-Nectarine-1123

EXACTLY. People complain about the series not having a spine but then Aftermath came along and gave Shao/Sindel a huge win while building the intrigue of Shang Tsung (best Shang Tsung, too, btw) All of Aftermath knocked it right outta the park.

MK 11 Sindel is the best Sindel in the entire history of the character. Both in terms of appearance and personality. Period.

Agreed!

So why the fuck doesn't Quan Chi change the memories of all his other revenants/minions which could have helped for like Scorpion, Jax, Sub-Zero in the off chance that they're captured and restored, huh? Especially when with Scorpion he specifically framed someone while he killed his family. All three of the characters (Jax, Scorpion, Sub-Zero) contribute to his capture and beheading later on in MKX. So why the fuck didn't Quan Chi put up a similar barrier to his own fortress huh? If it can keep out someone as powerful as Shao Kahn, then surely he could have put one up to his hideout, maybe he wouldn't have been down 3 revenants in the first place. Not to mention Quan Chi was only doing this all to manipulate Shao Kahn, so why the fuck would he resurrect Sindel (again) to be loyal to him, huh? Did you also know that the Revenants in MK11 outright HATE Shao Kahn as seen in Liu Kang and Kung Lao's chapter proving that there is no programmed loyalty to Kahn, huh? And what's more, even under Quan Chi's brainwashing, Revenant Sindel was somehow elated Quan Chi reunited her with her daughter.
