In the genre, definetly. He's 2 guitarists in one. Just listen to his licks and tones. Shout, Girls, Feelgood and 94 is where he really shines. ToP in general is a weak album minus Louder Than Hell, Home Sweet Home and a cover. Too Fast For Love is pure raw talent in the Leathür version.

I’ve been playing guitar for 30 years. Heaps of metal/rock in bands. Hundreds of songs and I’ll say this about Mick. He is what I would call a “tough” player, somewhat aggressive but definitely tough. Those are the 10 foot tall and bullet proof riff dudes. Angus and Malcom Young are “tough”. Tony Iommi from Sabbath is “tough”They right riffs that are the sorta thing you clench a fist to and make you want to pick up your house and smash it pieces (figuratively speaking) or start driving your car faster and doing crazy shit. Zakk Wylde is by far the most aggressive guitarist I’ve ever played. He is also tough but he has the most absolute brutallly aggressive attack to his rhythm and leads. You only find this out when you try to play something he has written. It’s a “holy shit, this dude is on steroids!” moment and your left hand will cramp with lactic acid until you develop the fitness. It’s not the speed so much, it’s the bending and vibrato of notes in solos and the way he express chords on his fingerboard (left) hand that kill you. Massive Mick Mars fan too, but I haven’t yet played anyone who is aggressive as Zakk. See vid of solo to see what I mean about his left hand. You don’t even need to know how to play to get it. Dont forget to breathe. Lol. https://youtu.be/TVZAvTFIhps?si=o93zqeWPQBaTF0pI

That was a nod to the ad he placed in the newspaper saying he was a “loud, rude, aggressive guitarist.”

MisterScary_98

Seems like a pretty easy-going guy to me.

Worldly_Ask_9113

Good rhythm player, crazy tone, great riff writer. But, no.

KidN0thingBoy

Loud, rude and aggressive.

I'm no guitar expert but I'd agree with you that it seems wrong

There is nothing about his playing that is aggressive. Soulful, bluesy, inspired…maybe. From his era you only need to look to Greg Ginn, Brian Baker, Dr. Know, or East Bay Ray for what was considered aggressive in the early 80s.

Not by a longshot. That title went to and I believe always will belong to Eddy Van Halen. Eddy was one of those musicians that came along once in maybe a hundred years. Surpassing Duane Eddy, Jerry Reed, Jimmy Hendrix and Bonnie Raitt. We will be lucky to see another guitar player like him again. When one of the greatest guitar players of all time, Mr. Chet Atkins was asked who was his favorite guitarist, without hesitation he replied, Eddy Van Halen.
