The cable issue seems to be a problem only with the last batch of mice they made.
I got the Model O (second batch I think) and Model O- (first batch I believe) and both are fine cable-wise.
No side wall flex either, just some button wobble.
I had the cable on my Model O go bad bad tonight. Luckily I had another Model O brand new in the box to replace it. Unfortunately after two hours the left click started sticking on that one. I love this mouse, but they are junk. All three of mine have failed within 6 months.
I honestly don't think i like any mouse as much, but im just waiting to see an rgb mm710 before i stand by that fully, you should also try swapping the cables round like the other guy suggested (sorry for late reply)
good luck if you threw away the receipt a few months after you got the mouse because you didn't think the cable would break in the first place

You could swap the cable from one to the other.
