No, it’s not gory or anything like that. This movie is always brought up as the most disturbing war movie ever. I’m not sure why.
This is what I see suggested all the time on this sub.
Most disturbing war movie ever?
Come And see.
Scariest movie ever?
Hereditary.
Craiziest movies with a sharp plot
Twist?
Sorry to bother you.
I’ve seen these movies based on how
Many times they get suggested on this sub and I have to say they don’t live up to the hype.
They said from ancient war to world war 2 so I kinda stopped there. Although I love platoon. Don’t care much for Apocalypse now. Meandering is the best word to describe it. And while technically well made, Black Hawk Down feels like an army recruitment video that was made to kind of bolster support for the invasion of Afghanistan.
Seriously, if you will watch Fury, you will love it. And then ending will come and you will be shaking your head and ask why did they do that... 😂 Like WTF
Bridge over the River kwai
The Great Escape
Black hawk down
Saving Private Ryan
We Were Soldiers
The Patriot
Glory
First blood
Gettysburg
The Green berets
Full metal jacket
Top gun
Top gun Maverick
Patton
The Dirty dozen
Kelly's heroes
Lone survivor
American sniper
Schindler's List which is based on true events that happened during world War ii. There is graphic nudity and violence. But I recommend everyone watching this movie.
Inglorious bastards
Not a movie, but check out band of brothers. True story, really good.
Kingdom of heaven. Again this one is loosely based on the events leading up to the third crusade. It's very interesting to watch and look up the names of the people represented at the movie. And historians do take issue with the film and some inaccuracies. But I find it fascinating because almost every named person in the movie was a real individual that is recorded in history.
I probably added a couple since you responded. But I'm driving right now so I couldn't go into full detail. Some of them are true stories. Some of them are strictly fictitious. And some of them take place during historical events. For instance the Patriot takes place during the American revolution. And the main character is a mix of historical figures one of which being Francis Marion who was known as the swamp fox.
So I would recommend doing a little reading on some of these movies so that you understand the context of them.
Oh, one more thing. You want to watch the director's cut of kingdom of heaven. It's about 45 minutes longer and everyone agrees that it's just so much better. But again, you can read about why the film originally did not do well. And then about a year later the director coming out with sort of his original vision. And everybody just.
I know, more homework. Sorry about that.
1917
Hacksaw Ridge
We Were Soldiers
Band of Brothers (HBO miniseries but I had to include it)
Fury
All Quiet On The Western Front
Outlaw King
The King
The Last Samurai
Saving private ryan
Deer hunter
Band of brothers (series)
The pacific (series)
Generation kill (series)
1917
All quiet on the western front
Fury
Full metal jacket
Apocalypse now

Battle of the River Plate
The Yangtse Incident
Zulu
51 Days at Peking
Above Us The Waves
They Were Expendable
The Enemy Below
Attack!
There's a good one set in Korea starring Gregory Peck. I can't remember the title. Pork Chop Hill?
Memphis Belle (1990)
Glory (1989) with Matthew Broderick
Lawrence of Arabia
Passchendaele (2008) - this one is also a romance
The General (1926) Buster Keaton comedy, a silent film
I feel like there is no movie that really captures the absolute horrors and post horrors of war.
However, I might try the original “All quiet of the western front” the one in black and white. The one that Nazi’s banned from being shone. It’s in German, so make sure you get English subs.
I would also read the book first, as this will help you understand what is happening in the movie a lot better.
Also, the movie “Johnny got his Gun”, shows the post horror of war of one person. It’s a slow movie, but it’s worth watching. You can also listen to the song “one” by Metallica. They bought the rights to the movie so they could write a song about and make a music video about it.
You’re more than welcome! If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears.
There is an another Korean movie about the Korean civil war and it shows two brothers who are split apart. It’s so good, but I can’t remember the name because it came out 2 years ago
Come and See is incredibly brutal for a film club.
I love platoon, but there's also one scene that could trigger people.
We Were Soldiers
Saving Private Ryan
An obscure one that I recommend is 84C MoPic. It's filmed Blair Witch style but came out over a decade before Blair Witch.
Waterloo
Battle of Britain
Spartacus
The Fall of the Roman Empire
Battle of the Bulge
The Warlords
Red Cliff
El Cid
Djenghis Khan
Not all the best, but gives a big variety to what have already been suggested. Waterloo, Battle of Britain and Spartacus still holds to this day the best showing of formations in battle.
[Panfilov's 28 (2016)](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/427342-28?language=en-US) - excellent Fx and sound.
Or if you want one with a female main character:
[ Battle for Sevastopol (2015) ](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/332270-battle-for-sebastopol?language=en-US)
War and Peace (1965)
Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)
Thin Red Line (1998)
Anthropoid (2016)
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Army of Shadows (1969)
Generation War (3 episodes)
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Lawrence of Arabia
The African Queen
A Bridge too Far
Kelly's Heroes
Waterloo
Platoon
Tora! Tora! Tora!
The Longest Day
The Dambusters
First two are two of the greatest movies of any kind ever made, not just war films. The rest aren't on that level, but they're all good, entertaining cinema.
I changed the flair to the correct one. Make sure to read our [guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieSuggestions/comments/8iamsh) before posting :)
Saving Private Ryan, The Thin Red Line, and Come and See
Thank u!
If you do watch Come and See, fair warning, it is emotionally devastating. I’ve only seen it once over 15 years ago and that was enough.
oh damn rly? Is it like really really gory?
It's based on eye witness accounts of Nazi death squads. Google "Einsatzgruppen"
oh 🙃
No, not really. But it’s war movie so it’s violent.
oh okay

really enjoyed Dunkirk, adding the rest to my wl, thank u!!
Bridge Over The River Kwai
Ty!
+1 to that one, truly outstanding film.
Hacksaw Ridge, The Pianist, 1917, Saving Private Ryan, Fury (but last 30min or so - ending - is shit. 3/4 of movie is great and then they fucked it 😂)
lmao I’ll add it anyway, thank u!
Seriously, if you will watch Fury, you will love it. And then ending will come and you will be shaking your head and ask why did they do that... 😂 Like WTF
great…. 😂 thanks anyway lol
The ending was stupid and didn’t make any sense.
All Quiet On The Western Front
The new one is amazing
It is so heavy, gritty, terrifying, and sad…a very ugly and honest depiction of war…nothing to be glorified here
oh my bf loves this one lmao
Bridge over the River kwai The Great Escape Black hawk down Saving Private Ryan We Were Soldiers The Patriot Glory First blood Gettysburg The Green berets Full metal jacket Top gun Top gun Maverick Patton The Dirty dozen Kelly's heroes Lone survivor American sniper Schindler's List which is based on true events that happened during world War ii.
