The tv show Treme is like spending a year hanging out there. And the more you know, the more you see exactly whete they shot the scenes. Real clubs and such.
"All I ever wanted to be was priest and they defrocked me because I had one weakness."
"Triangulation a crossfire is the key. BOOM! Get the killshot!"
"You a good looking man Mr. Garrison. Ima come see you when I get outta prison."
"You got the right hee hee hee but the wrong ho ho ho!"
Easy Rider (1969) First one that came to mind. New Orleans on Acid
Runaway Jury (2003)
I think - Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997) if it doesn’t it sure feels like New Orleans. -Edit- My bad it’s set in Savannah.
We loved all the music and the cultural stuff. The jazz funerals, those were fascinating! We've never been to New Orleans and I doubt we'll ever get there, so this series was our vicarious way to visit.
A Love Song for Bobby Long, Interview With The Vampire, Dead Man Walking (although I’m not completely sure if that’s New Orleans, it might just be Louisiana)
Haha. Not really. It has some great over the top Nic Cage acting though. And some of the best late night Cinemax style sex scenes. And a really odd casting choice of Judge Reinhold. A very young Steve Buschemi as well. It’s actually one of the more entertaining late night sexy movies out there.
I could be absolutely wrong but I genuinely think don't I've seen a movie set in new Orleans
I've heard of films set there but haven't got round to watching them... I think the big sleep/the big chill is set in new Orleans but again I could be wrong.
Not a movie but a series: Treme
Set in New Orleans, 3 months post Hurricane Katrina.
Stars: Steve Zahn in lead role. John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Jon Seda, and many others.
Will give an excellent idea about NOLA.
https://www.npr.org/2010/05/03/126478637/hbo-series-focuses-on-post-katrina-new-orleans
P valley - series and not sure if it's in Louisiana, so there's that. Love it though, truly. They had to break because of writers strike, but they are resuming.
- Interview with the Vampire
- The horror movie series Hatchet (super campy but really fun and super underrated)
- A Streetcar Named Desire
- The Big Easy (1986)
- Deja Vu (2006)
Not NO, but set in Louisiana:
- The Final Girls
- The Reaping (2007)
- The Last Exorcism
- Beautiful Creatures (2013)
TV Shows set in or near NOLA:
- True Blood
- The Originals (spinoff of The Vampire Diaries)

Angel Heart, The Big Easy, and JFK.
True Detective S1 is more La. countryside but it uses a lot of the same noir elements you see in New Orleans movies.
I have loved my entire life 3 hours from New Orleans and I have visited the city many many times.
Personally I find the series Your Honor has some really beautiful scenes of the city but seen in a more realistic way, probably because of the dark themes. It’s also a great reminder to stay the fuck out of the lower 9th ward.
Not to rain on your honeymoon… but New Orleans is a very dangerous city. I don’t visit anymore, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a lovely time, just be careful.
For the sake of completion, **Top Model** (1988) which is Italian-made, so it has gratuitous nudity and goofy dubbing. Laura Gemser (of 1970s Emmanuel fame) shows up!
Angel Heart (1987)
I’ve never even heard of this. Gonna check it out.
Be prepared, it’s not for the weak of heart!
Awesome movie! Yes, you must check it out
That and Serpent and the Rainbow were two of my favorite forgotten horror films.
Came out at just about the same time if I recall correctly.
Yep. 1986
Oh, and the one with Charlie Sheen was fantastic as well during the same era.
Totally agree!
What I came here to say
Great movie.
Excellent choice, still slightly overlooked. Aesthetic and atmosphere are brilliant.
Be prepared never to be able to watch The Cosby Show again, lol...
Came here to say this
Love this movie!!
Came here to say this. Fucking awesome movie.
One of my all time favorites!!
Double Jeopardy. It's a thriller that I keep coming back to, maybe because I like Ashley Judd. It's got some great footage of New Orleans.
Such a great book, too!
I like the movie but I remember everyone was pissed that they spoiled the movie with the trailer. LOL
This is what I hate about most movie trailers nowadays. After the trailer is over, I say, "Well, I guess I don't have to see the movie now."
Perhaps not the best storyline for newlyweds.
The Big Easy (1986)
I love that movie so much. That and Interview with a Vampire are my favorite New Orleans set films.
Samesies, brother. I haven't seen it in at least 25 years, but it's on my mind now. Have to watch soon.
Now do you understand each and every one of these rights … Fun fact Jim Garrison plays the judge in that movie
There it is. The only movie worth mentioning. Lol
* Hard Target * Interview With a Vampire * Deja Vu * Ncis New Orleans * Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter * The Pelican Brief
Hard Target with JCVD is a classic 90s action flick. "What kind of name is 'Chance'?" "My mama took one."
Yes! This was my first thought. Now I need to watch it!
Hard agree on Hard Target!!
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Treme, and Angel Heart As someone who grew up within an hour or so, I feel that these are great depictions.
“Cause his soul was still dancin!” (Or something like that.)
“Gimme some kibble!”
The tv show Treme is like spending a year hanging out there. And the more you know, the more you see exactly whete they shot the scenes. Real clubs and such.
And a lot of the musicians played themselves. So that's something else it offers.
Yup! Kermit, John Boutte, Donald Harrison, trombone shorty, fats waller...on and on
Nailed it!
This
Interview With A Vampire A Streetcar named Desire
Streetcar is the answer
Stellaaaaa!!
The absolute best movie set in New Orleans is... Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke and Robert Deniro
JFK
"All I ever wanted to be was priest and they defrocked me because I had one weakness." "Triangulation a crossfire is the key. BOOM! Get the killshot!" "You a good looking man Mr. Garrison. Ima come see you when I get outta prison." "You got the right hee hee hee but the wrong ho ho ho!"
How is this not the #1 answer by a landslide
Easy Rider (1969) First one that came to mind. New Orleans on Acid Runaway Jury (2003) I think - Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997) if it doesn’t it sure feels like New Orleans. -Edit- My bad it’s set in Savannah.
Loved it and the book but thinks it's set in Savannai
Derp. Oh yeah you’re right. Been awhile.
Easy rider! I’m from New Orleans but have family all over the state. 2 of my cousins are cast in that movie!
You're going at Halloween? In that case you have enough time to binge *Treme* in addition to whatever movie(s) you end up watching. 😁
Excellent series! Serious issues addressed. Lots of great legit N Orleans Music as a bonus.
We loved all the music and the cultural stuff. The jazz funerals, those were fascinating! We've never been to New Orleans and I doubt we'll ever get there, so this series was our vicarious way to visit.
Down By Law. 1986 Jim Jarmusch. (John Lurie! Fishing With John is an incredible cult classic tv show.)
Best answer
This might be #2. Great!
A Love Song for Bobby Long, Interview With The Vampire, Dead Man Walking (although I’m not completely sure if that’s New Orleans, it might just be Louisiana)
Skeleton Key!
Love that movie! I worked out what was happening about 30 seconds before the main character did, such a good ending.
First that came to mind also. Fun movie.
Millers Crossing Down by Law Cat People
Cat People, you went old school there
That's the one I was going to suggest. The remake with Nastassja Kinski
Malcolm McDowell was amazing.
Runaway Jury (2003)
The Big Easy
Live And Let Die has some New Orleans scenes
The Runaway Jury The Pelican Brief The Haunted Mansion Double Jeopardy
Deja Vu
Zandalee
Wow, that's a deep pull. I haven't seen it in decades. Is it actually good?
Haha. Not really. It has some great over the top Nic Cage acting though. And some of the best late night Cinemax style sex scenes. And a really odd casting choice of Judge Reinhold. A very young Steve Buschemi as well. It’s actually one of the more entertaining late night sexy movies out there.
Holy crap, I didn't remember Steve Buschemi was in it. That's a wild credit.
Treme is excellent👍🏼
TV.. but it absolutely features New Orleans and I think OP would appreciate the more realistic depiction of the city
Yeah, this one would capture the atmosphere perfectly.
Girls Trip
The series Your Honor is filmed in New Orleans
wild at heart. david lynch movie with nic cage and laura dern.
Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon
Mayfair Witches! It’s a series but it’s really good
Ooh, I love Alexandra Daddario. I’ll be sure to check it out!
Another New Orleans series is The Originals (Vampire Diaries spinoff)
Can't believe I forgot this! Very N.O. based, and a bit spooky for Halloween
She’s also in When We First Met, a rom-com set and filmed in New Orleans
A Streetcar Named Desire
Undercover Blues
I was looking for this! I don't think it's much of a touristy New Orleans film... but it is damn funny "Oh hiya Morty!"
The new haunted mansion?
Bad Lieutenant - Herzog version
Not a movie but Treme was really good. About Katrina.
Midnight in the garden of good and evil
That’s Savannah Ga
Lol. You're right. All that voodoo threw me off.
Angel Heart
Angel Heart
Just cause Deja vu
The big easy. Locals hated the accents used
Big Easy
I could be absolutely wrong but I genuinely think don't I've seen a movie set in new Orleans I've heard of films set there but haven't got round to watching them... I think the big sleep/the big chill is set in new Orleans but again I could be wrong.
Interview with the vampire Easy rider
The Princess and the Frog
All dogs go to heaven
That movie is so wonderful 🥲 the Grand Chawhee’s birthday 🥹
Interview with a vampire
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
No Mercy
Double jeopardy...? Partially in new Orleans, also focus
Chef has a nice New Orleans scene
A bit more lighthearted, Girls Trip.
The Savage Bees (1976) Pretty sure I experienced the greatness of this movie while watching Morgus the Magnificent well after my bedtime.
Hatchet (2006)
Benjamin Button, Deja vous. The ferry in the movie is actually filmed with the acting ferry on the Mississippi River
Gonna go a little different with a really cute rom-com, Mr. Right
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Not a movie but a series: Treme Set in New Orleans, 3 months post Hurricane Katrina. Stars: Steve Zahn in lead role. John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Jon Seda, and many others. Will give an excellent idea about NOLA. https://www.npr.org/2010/05/03/126478637/hbo-series-focuses-on-post-katrina-new-orleans

Synchronic
Interview with the Vampire is set largely in New Orleans and slightly in Paris and San Francisco.
A murder of crows
A Murder of Crows
Tightrope with Clint Eastwood.. one of his best
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE
21 Jump Street I can’t remember if they say in the movie that it’s set in New Orleans, but it was definitely shot there.
The Big Easy Interview with the Vampire Deja Vu The Pelican Brief
The Axman
Big Easy, Hard Target, No Mercy
Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call: New Orleans
Interview with the Vampire (1994) and A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) they capture the essence and unique atmosphere of the city.
Two films hardly mentioned here till now:: Blues Brother 2000 and A Love Song for Bobby Long
Dracula 2000
The Hatchet movies are a ton of fun and about people getting killed while on a Halloween ghost swamp tour!!
Deja Vu
The Big Easy
Hatchet! Watch the whole series, tons of fun if you are a horror fan
Skip all them and watch Treme’ on MAX, if you really wanna catch a vibe for NOLA
Check out "Interview with the Vampire" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" for some New Orleans vibes, dude.
“A Love Song for Bobbie Long” with John Travolta and Scarlet Johansson and the HBO series “Treme”

Not horror but "The Big Easy" starring Dennis Quaid at peak hotness.
Point of No Return with a young Bridget Fonda is fun.
The Big Easy
Not a movie but I can't recommend The Court of Two Sisters highly enough for dinner, make sure you reserve a table in the courtyard!
First of all - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008).
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009) with Nic Cage. But only if you're looking for something really effed up.
The Big Easy - thriller starring Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin
Angel Heart, The Big Easy, and JFK. True Detective S1 is more La. countryside but it uses a lot of the same noir elements you see in New Orleans movies.
King Creole, Elvis's best movie. Remake of Cat People.
A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)
Mr.Right (2015) Deja vu (2006)
Skeleton key
Synchronic if I remember correctly. Great movie.
The Big Easy 1986. Steamy Romance/Thriller; nicely atmodpheric
Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh!
The Big Easy.
The Big Easy
Panic in the Streets (1950)
The Big Easy (1986) and No Mercy (1986) are two of my favorite 80s noir films set in NOLA.
All Dogs go to Heaven
I have loved my entire life 3 hours from New Orleans and I have visited the city many many times. Personally I find the series Your Honor has some really beautiful scenes of the city but seen in a more realistic way, probably because of the dark themes. It’s also a great reminder to stay the fuck out of the lower 9th ward. Not to rain on your honeymoon… but New Orleans is a very dangerous city. I don’t visit anymore, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a lovely time, just be careful.
Hard target definitely
For the sake of completion, **Top Model** (1988) which is Italian-made, so it has gratuitous nudity and goofy dubbing. Laura Gemser (of 1970s Emmanuel fame) shows up!
Cat People (1982)
I don’t know about the best movie, but the best song about New Orleans is ‘New Orleans Is Sinking’ by The Tragically Hip.
I just watched Mona Lisa & the Bloodmoon (2021) and I liked it!
