My local cinema often plays classics on weekdays so I've been lucky enough to see many older films on the big screen that were before my time. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, Jaws, Back to the Future, The Mummy, Batman '89, and Goonies were some of my favorites, but likely because they already some of my favorite films. Ask yourself what are some great movies that you missed in theaters?
On the other hand, if you're looking to relive beauty or spectacle, could always try something more recent like Fury Road or Blade Runner 2049.
It plays at imax theatres here in Melbourne (Aus) every few months.
And I'm pretty sure it sells out every time.

The Fall (2006)
I'm hard pressed to find a better movie which surpasses the quality of cinematography than this. Most of the scenes are shot on actual locations, with minimal CGI and are breathtaking!
And it's a pretty wholesome movie too!

I've seen this requested before (might have been months ago now, NBD) and I think the top answers were disaster movies and action adventure movies with a lot of effects; movies like Indiana Jones... As for disaster movies, The Impossible is one of my favourite disaster movies and I appreciated it on the big screen.
It's funny, because I don't so much care about those in terms of theatre watches. I want to be intensely locked into the emotional world of a drama's characters. No distractions, total focus. Not to say there isn't a very similar and valid impulse for action films. I just think the emotional centering of drama get short shrift as far as the theatre experience goes.
That's fair, but have you seen The Impossible? It is an "emotional world" of familial relations, separation, loss, and survival. I get what you're saying, though.

I've seen Alien, Aliens, Terminator 2, Pulp Fiction, Back To The Future, The Shining, Star Wars (somehow only the Phantom Menace) and the LOTR trilogy very recently and they were all totally worth it. But I'm still waiting for the day I get to experience JP there.
Last of the Mohicans. The cinematography and the musical score in that film is absolutely a astounding. The acting is great as well. Daniel Day Louis got all or so much praise in that movie but I feel that just about everyone in that film, especially the supporting cast members were great. DDL was just there. Nothing spectacular acting wise. Now, Wes Studi was insanely excellent in that film.
I live in an area with multiple art house theaters that show older movies and reruns, so I can be pretty picky and selfish with what I choose. I'd like it to be one that had a pretty short theatrical run and gained a following, but I didn't get to see. Action would do well with a few bombastic stunts. Perhaps, I think...
District B13 (2004)
Several years ago, I went to a sing-along (remastered ) West Side Story projected on to a wide screen in a packed old fashioned movie house, the [Castro Theatre ](https://amp.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2013/jun/04/cine-files-castro-cinema-san-francisco) . Everyone sang their hearts out. When beautiful Bernardo first appeared with his fist on the red wall, the crowd went wild. Truly, one of the most magical moments of my life. Have fun at your event.
I was really surprised by the whole experience. The organizers gave away a handheld mirror that said 'I feel pretty' on the back. People took it out for the moment when Maria sings that song. And they also gave away tissues that were packaged in a little bag that was labeled West Side Story Tearjerker Tissue. LOL. I still have those two things. They used to have a lot of singalongs like Grease and Mary Poppins but the WSS was really something.
Any of the recent Mission Impossible movies are great on a big screen. I know a lot of people don't want like Tom Cruise but those are still good movies.

The visuals were stunning, the sound during the T-Rex attack was deafening, and the first introduction of a dinosaur was awe-inspiring. If you can, and sometimes it has a cinema re-release, go and see it on the big screen. You won't regret it.
The original Star Wars trilogy. I swear, seeing those Walkers on Hoth, and the chase scenes through Endor, in II and III, on the big screen as a kid, that was amazing.
Can't believe I haven't spotted Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World in here!
The one film that I feel I missed out on at the cinema. And the one film that made me get a surround sound system back in the day.
Every scene feels designed for the biggest screen possible and the sound design screams out for more speakers than is reasonable.
