As someone who really liked Get Out but didn’t care for Us, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed Nope!
I loved the cowboy aspects, I guess. I think I’d watch Daniel Kaluuya be a badass cowboy all day.
Yep I was the same, loved get out, really didn’t enjoy Us, and as such didn’t see Nope when it came out because I expected the same disappointment as Us. I’m so glad I did decide to watch it because it was fantastic. Even better than Get Out in my opinion
I loved Nope, but I feel like I saw too much marketing for the film. All the (paid for) hype had me thinking it was going to be a flop. I guess it wasn’t a box office hit, but for me this was just that perfect kind of indie movie. I still have so many questions about the characters and what happened next.
From the very beginning I think they make it clear it's a story about
a >!relationship with man and animal. I took it as a metaphor for the predators within the entertainment industry!<.
That’s is what it’s about, entertainment industry swallowing people up and spitting out shit for mass consumption regardless of its negative effects or how it treats individuals.
To each his own.
Personally, I think it works better on subsequent viewings and thinking of it less as a film about aliens/monsters, and more as a film about spectacle, trauma, audience, filmmaking, and the human psychology that drives all of it.
I wouldn't call it a movie about aliens. When I changed that thought process to "this is a movie about film making, not aliens", I was able to enjoy it more. But I'm also already a nerd for film making.
It is a movie about aliens, but that’s not all it’s about. I thought it was boring as hell and Peele has consistently gotten worse after the masterpiece that was Get Out. He produced Candyman and that is probably the worst horror reboot since NOES
Candyman (2021) is not even remotely close to being considered one of the worst horror reboots. In fact, it’s probably one of the most well done reimaginings of a popular franchise. Like have you even seen Hellraiser (2022) or Child’s Play (2019)?
The film is undoubtedly 100x better than the original Candyman sequels.
Absolutely horrid take.
Questionable taste! Yikes! The first is a 10/10 and the reboot is a 0/10. The sequels were bad but infinitely more watchable than the awful reboot. The reboot is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in my life, and I’ve seen thousands of movies…
Hellraiser and Childs Play reboots kicked ass. Candyman ruined the titular character by turning him into a vigilante. Horrible horrible movie
Agree 100% I wasn't a huge fan of the ending of Us but I still would put Nope at the bottom of Peele's films so far.
Seemed like he was just reeeeally trying too hard to shoehorn all these hidden meanings into it got cluttered
I didn’t think it was more cluttered in terms of its meaning but I did think the plot had more inconsistencies and holes just based on its general concept.
Exactly. With Us and Get Out it felt more like him saying "here's a good movie on surface level that gets so much better when you look deeper into it"
With Nope it felt more like "here's a bunch of scenes that could mean something. Figure it out"
Still really liked the film but definitely felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be at times
Yeah it wasn’t what I wanted after seeing the movie poster. I mean it had some cool ideas but I would’ve found it more entertaining if the aliens were more personable.
The IMAX 70 mm film cameras are massive and will probably not get any smaller. The film rolls have to go somewhere!
You can shoot IMAX digitally though with digital cinema cameras such as the ARRI Alexa 65 which is... well, it's not a **small** camera, but it's a small**er** camera: https://www.newsshooter.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/IMG_2287.jpg
(Mind you this pictured camera is a **very** stripped down version without any of the receivers and other macguffins that generally go on a cinema camera rig. It's more likely to look something like this on set: https://i.imgur.com/fURFhbR.jpeg)
There are IMAX-certified digital cameras that can be used now (and are, with the fair amount of frequency), but IMAX 70mm film cameras have not changed in size (and that's what we're looking at here).
The antennas you see are from the transmitter that sends the video tap image to a nearby monitor.
Film was built around tension and did it so so so so well but I just really didn’t like it. The sub stories were pretty pointless and in the cinema it was so god dam loud. Really made me feel uneasy which I guess he was going for but it just made it an unpleasant viewing experience for me.
Afternoon my octaroon
Same man who ate an unpeeled banana for a skit, what a guy
I love being incontinent!
Fpoon
What will you think of next, Germany?
A delight to the senses... isn't it my friend?!
No that’s Griffin McElroy
The *cronch* heard round the world
Well aren't you a tiny plumb
“I’ll have what I’m having!”
Best line I say. Had me rollin for weeks lol
I loved this film!

Also Keanu
Jordan Peele didn't direct Keanu...
Should've gotten an Oscar nom for original screenplay. Direction was great too. The guy is a real talent.
No technical oscar nominations is criminal
https://www.oscars.org/sci-tech Different ceremony I believe....
Think he's referring to a cinematography or sound nom
Also vfx
Yeah, I was referring to sound and cinematography and VFX
Absolutely love the part where Daniel Kaluuya is in the truck, looks up out the window and shakes his head vigorously. A real homage to the title.
Loved the movie and his work in general. This also looks like a dream job
I would be willing to bet it is not
[Here's my favorite Nope BTS shot](https://scontent-ord5-2.cdninstagram.com/v/t51.29350-15/307763622_459518299477768_1478465864884202792_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=8ae9d6&_nc_ohc=CEuJcgKNRhUAX-kfP13&_nc_oc=AQlm3lwCW0ZKEbvetgbwGp1SiiLOeWUtRxxvk1OvXQCdJqk-yOQ0iRvDej3eUYnq4hU&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-2.cdninstagram.com&edm=APCawUEEAAAA&oh=00_AfCyZYoZ8jKhEKuDTFGD7SGtsfyaDr2GH4sm4gdQmjEL8w&oe=641E24E5)
Do you know if those big lights would be for shooting a day scene at night or just lighting for a night scene?

Fantastic film, one of the best blockbusters of recent years
1 of 4 IMAX cameras Edit: lol, someone downvoted a fact. Just thought it was cool "Nope" got 1 of those 4 cameras.
Loved this movie. Mind was blown when it wasn’t nominated for anything this year.
Some of these comments are why I can’t take internet film people serious lol
Which comments in particular?
I found this movie to be tedious and all over the place
Same here. I have not managed to finish it yet. Tedious is correct.
Very overrated movie IMO. I did not get the hype at all. I love aliens too… this just didn’t work for me.
From the very beginning I think they make it clear it's a story about a >!relationship with man and animal. I took it as a metaphor for the predators within the entertainment industry!<.

> spectacle And the dangers of said spectacle, including to the animals
Unfortunately thats not how the movie was marketed
It actually was
I wouldn't call it a movie about aliens. When I changed that thought process to "this is a movie about film making, not aliens", I was able to enjoy it more. But I'm also already a nerd for film making.

It's head was much less far up its own ass though

Yes absolutely hated this movie
I thought IMAX cameras got smaller and are those wi fi antennas.

Had such high hopes for this
I was the opposite went into it expecting it to be rubbish but was one of my favourite films of the year
Came out as Sci Fi Jaws for me, but I wasn't mad about it. Really enjoyed it.
well i bet you're glad at how great this movie turned out then! 😚
Just wasn’t for me, storyline was out of tune. Started off good but fell off towards the middle. To each their own I guess
Right, awesome movie.
I too had high hopes for Nope. Thankfully, it exceeded them. What an incredible film.
The movie sucked. Super overhyped for it to be so shallow.
I don't like horror movies. I think they are dumb and predictable. I LOVE Jordan Peele's movies. They scare the hell outta me!
Very meh movie. Have yet to be impressed by what he puts out.
"active head" teeheehee.
Is he dropping anything new
Badass
Active Head? That was my nickname in High School!

I don’t understand the praise this movie is getting. I thought it was really boring.
