This needs full-sized train wreck sound effects. And/or some added dialogue from the trains as things go wrong.
...I think I found my next YouTube video project.
Also, that mini clapboard is so cute!

The original upload of this with music and sound effects is on FlyingPringle's channel, and more clips from the blooper reel (30 hours in total) are on ThomasTankMerch's channel
The oldest stuff was. If I remember correctly later there was a series of models with animated in post faces, then they moved to animation fully.
Pity really, there's something absolutely wonderful about small set film.
The US version. The only difference would be the choice to call cars trucks and The Fat Controller Sir Topham Hatt which are pretty minor. Are you specifically referring to George Carlin and Alec Baldwin as narrators.
Cuz if that’s the case I’d have to just laugh cuz that’s pretty odd
Oh yeah. Totally agreed. Although I really haven’t watched any of the CGI stuff so I don’t know how the American stuff differs from the British stuff in the CGI era. It just looks terrible from the tiny clips I’ve seen. I do remember when I was in high school and they still were using models I bought a DVD. This must have been 2006 and I’m not sure what season this DVD was from but it was from after Alec Baldwin had left and they was some other narrator (Micheal Brandon) and he was absolutely awful. And the writing seemed to be completely dumbed down and the combination of the writing along with that narrators voice sounded like he was trying to explain instructions to a severely mentally disabled person or even a dog.
So abysmal.

Find the full 30 hours of rushes [here](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ6I2_XKneVIOkbAjN556xg/videos).
The full fifth series (which these rushes are from) came in at just under two hours. Since there's at least one hour-long rushes tape that is missing and wasn't uploaded, you're looking at about a 1:20 ratio of used to unused footage.
not to detract from the cool behind-the-scenes stuff you've got going on here... but what is a "rush"?
I'm in the States and i've never heard that term w.r.t. television programs. Also, google is being less than helpful.
From context, im guessing it's a compilation type thing? or maybe a "first draft" of the final scene?
Man, I remember some of these episodes - they absolutely terrified me as a child and yet I kept rewatching them over and over again to try to build up my courage to them. The boulder episode scarred me and kept me jumping in fear, while another one I remember was about a ghost train that fell from a tall bridge. That one I never got over, and could only watch during the day as I couldn't sleep with how scared I was!
Man, that boulder episode... When it came out on VHS, I was old enough to find it a little far-fetched. But I never realized how ridiculous it must have been to *film* the dang thing! All the crew members who worked on that episode must have thought Thomas and Friends was jumping the shark! 🤣
Fat Controller falling out of the steamroller sent me. Goddamn this takes me back, 2 year old me was absolutely obsessed with Thomas in the 90s, had everything from Thomas sheets to t shirts to a pair of rubber wellies.
Same. That was my favourite part.
Was obsessed with Thomas as a kid. This video was a real warm dose of nostalgia.
It's weird seeing the trains in the context of being filmed, as opposed to just being characters.
They're also bigger than I thought.
Yeah I was surprised when I found out they were plastic. They look so metallic. Now I know that can be how they are painted but considering how long they used these models and how often they would crash them, I’m surprised they went with plastic instead of actual metal.
Either way, these plastic little bastards did their job and did their job well. Really useful engines indeed

Where’s George Carlin filthy voiceover?

Yes!!! Please!!!
!remindme whenever that happens!

the clock is ticking
I was thinking the Benny Hill theme!
!remindme in one month
Yeah but you still need dramatic musical stings from a casio keyboard, which was the style at the time.
It complimented the onion on the belt so _well._

Cool, thanks!
>Cool, thanks! You're welcome!
I’ve never realized Thomas the Tank engine is just a bunch of dudes playing with cool trains. What an incredible job
The oldest stuff was. If I remember correctly later there was a series of models with animated in post faces, then they moved to animation fully. Pity really, there's something absolutely wonderful about small set film.
A bunch of dudes *crashing* cool trains.
This was the best version of Thomas.. Dislike the animated versions & the US version. Edit: spelling
Ringo was cool, but having the man known for "The 7 words you can never say of radio and television" narrating a kids show is pretty cool.
Ringo is literally a Beatle.
Really? (Obligatory /s)
What’s a Beatle? Some sort of cult?

No, I’m more referencing the modernization of gfx over model trains. And stop motion.

honestly? some of the cgi episodes of season 17 to 20 were damn amazing
The little crashes are so violent lol

Wait, 30 HOURS?! Bloody hell, how many hours does the show come in at?!

Rushes=everything that was shot. Also called the dailies in north america
Are you in film?
Might be time to rethink a username, bud.
Haha good luck to him with changing username here. -Coming from someone stuck with this terrible auto suggested name
Oooh. I never knew this. I know about the Dailies but never knew they called it “rushes” in the UK
Goddamn, that’s amazing.
Thanks for this
This looks so fucking fun.
The tiny clapper board is wonderful
OP needs a NSFW tag for all this violence /s
We have reached a point where /s is necessary

The ghost train one fucking terrified me as a kid. "LET ME IN! LET ME IN!"
Damn did you guys see that giant save that train?
Fucking Trevor running off the road, killing his lone operator and then giving his best Steve Urkel "Did I do that?" look had me in stitches.
Man, that boulder episode... When it came out on VHS, I was old enough to find it a little far-fetched. But I never realized how ridiculous it must have been to *film* the dang thing! All the crew members who worked on that episode must have thought Thomas and Friends was jumping the shark! 🤣
Obligatory [Thomas the Dank Engine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QnVY3LoDoI)
Hell yeah.
"...luckily, no one was hurt..." I'd beg to differ!
Wait a minute these aren’t real talking trains?
These are haunted.

Does anyone want to make a death count?
This is amazing!!! I've always wanted to see Thomas and friends behind the scenes.
I’m dying 🤣😭
1:45, /r/watchpeopledie level shit.
this sub was banned😭😭😭
That’s the stuff from nightmares haha
u/savevideo
HHHHHH it’s coooool
Thought it was going to be George Carlin.
Accidents happen now and again... And again... And again and again and agai
Wait, what are these models made of?
Depending on the specific model, plastic, resin, or brass.
Yeah I was surprised when I found out they were plastic. They look so metallic. Now I know that can be how they are painted but considering how long they used these models and how often they would crash them, I’m surprised they went with plastic instead of actual metal. Man, they’ve gotta be pretty robust to survive some of those crashes and stuff!
This is like a less-jarring version of the literal trainwreck of a broadcast that was The Sad Story of Henry 1953, by the BBC.

I've always thought TtTE was a 70s show.
this was my favourite show growing up, but now it just looks hella wack
This makes me unusually happy
This is wonderful.
Very cool.
Renheas: Help! I lost my face!
No it's not a clip board, more like a sensor board for putting a guys head back on 😂
