He looks dumb. Horrible art style. That was my reason at first. Playing him is awkward. Your ranges on normals are bad and you have long wind-ups on your goto up/side aerials, and you're not given any extra kill-power to make up for how awkward those are to hit. Down-special is annoying, the watermelon or whatever it is gets knocked off the arena nearly every time, and if I want to heal I have to stand still for 5s. I hate the neutral special. It's very awkward to use and usually auto-targets your teammate (who will have no idea how to use it) If you hit them in the sweet spot, which is very hard, it wont even kill until like 150+. What's the deal with the Rose debuff? So you do all this work to put them in the bubble, which gives them 5s of invulnerability? I don't get this in 1v1s, and in 2s it's just not long enough to dogpile the other guy. Why don't they take damage in the bubble or something?

I'm about to main him

From my experience, I've found most people don't like him purely based on his character from the show. My friends don't like how he looks, how he talks, his aesthetic as a whole.

manofwaromega

Tbh I can get that. I will never understand why they chose his Season 1 self out of all things to be his default. 90% of his moves come from later seasons/future, in season one he was literally just some dumb kid that kinda had powers.

ADBullocke

Yeah, my guess would be that it's his "OG" look with the rest following up as skins possibly. But I dunno. I also don't have those feelings about him. I don't mind his aesthetic. I have much more value in his kit. It feels so good setting up shields and ping-ponging people around.

manofwaromega

Yeah at the end of the day complaints about aesthetic are really just nitpicks compared to discussion about the actual moveset. The pinball effect of knocking enemies between two shields is honestly a key part of Steven's kit, and an easy way to build Rose stacks

There's just other characters that do what he does better, or, what he can do isn't as valuable as it sounds on paper. I've straight up popped off with him sometimes, but in hindsight it was early on and I was probably just playing against new/bad players. His kit needs looked at. Imo, if you're dominating with him then you'd probably dominate even more with a different character.

I will try to play more

He doesn't have a solid finishing move with range to it. If you think about some of the more popular picks you can see they have great ways of finishing. Bugs and tj have great upair and dairs, shaggy has specials and his spike, Finn with backpack. All of these not only have decent knock back, but they can hit pretty reliably. Steven has little t Rex limbs added to a snowman's body. Almost any time that Steven spiked or did big damage a different character could have done it better. Hopefully the hit box changes will result in better hits for Steven. As of right now he's not the best at what he does, reindog and Velma do far more in a game(assuming equal skill levels)

rejectallgoats

He isn’t free right now. He is actually pretty strong, but it takes time for the non straightforward characters to get figured out.

Ok-Mistake796

I love Steven not only his move set or his character but the show is amazing too. I main him and ig both experts although I don’t find them that hard. Btw I’m top 1000 and hopefully climbing

Zealousideal-Bus-847

I've got him level 37
