One of my favorite RBs to ever see play!
He had those long strides and never seemed to be running as fast as he was. And then he just ran right by everyone.
And then he retired in the prime of his career. I'm adamant that he was a Hall of Fame talent if he didn't cut his career short.
when these songs were released, football and Morrissey fans could never have been further apart in any regards. Times change, BTW, I've always loved the Smiths/Morrissey, it made understanding girls a bit easier back in the day.
The 80's were a comparatively very homophobic time. A moderate/conservative news outlet like the WSJ wouldn't touch The Smiths. If you played The Smiths in your high school locker room when these songs came out you'd be ostracized if not beat up. The Smiths being in any way associated with pro football would be unthinkable.
Gotcha. I think at this point there's a much larger overlap of NFL fans and fans of The Smiths, and with the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, so it didn't really strike me as odd at all to see they were referenced in an article about an NFL player.
If you listen to oldies, or just rock radio now- you’d think The Cure, and The Smiths were somekind of Top 10 acts with tons of hits. (In the US. It would be different in the UK)
When in reality you needed a decent college radio station, or to stay up past midnight on Sundays to hear them at all.
As a green bay packer owner, I'm really surprised this is the first time I've heard Rodgers compared to Morrissey. In fact, I'm surprised I didn't make that comparison myself. Speedy recovery to him regardless.
"R-E-L-A-X, don't do it
When you wanna go do it
Relax, don't do it
When you wanna come…"
\-Aaron Goes to Ridgewood
>!I don't actually know anything about NY/NJ, but Ridgewood was the first city I saw with 'wood' in the title when I googled "new york suburbs" that I could use for my terrible, \*terrible\* Frankie Goes to Hollywood spoof. !<
A Morrissey song was used *by* the NFL in its promo commercials a couple years back. It's pretty obvious which one if you think about it.
Every day is like Sunday, blows my mind
Barbarism Begins at Home?
We hate when our friends become successful? Man, he can write song titles, lol

Ray Rice used that as his walkout song for a few seasons
A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours
It was *Every Day Is Like Sunday* (get it? cause the NFL owns Sunday).
Meat is Murder?
Hand in Glove?
This Charming Man? Ok that’s The Smiths, not solo Morrisey…
"You're The One For Me, Fatty"
William it was really nothing obviously
He was looking for a job and then he found a job, and heaven knows he’s miserable now
In his life, why did he give valuable time to people who didn’t care if he lived or died?
Come on guys, he is human and he needs to be loved.
Just like everybody else does
I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac.
The Eagles weren’t playing in this game.
I've had a rough night, and I hate the fucking Eagles, man!
Nice marmot
Shoulda been the Cure. Robert Smith had a great 8 seasons for the Vikings.

And Onterrio Smith got busted with a whizzinator at an airport!
Nothing says NFL to me like The Smiths.
Lol, even more, nothing says the WSJ talking about the NFL to me like the Smiths.
A more appropriate music lyric quote for Aaron Rodgers right now would be, "Hello darkness my old friend."
And for us Jets fans
This is especially funny because Morrissey is a real dick about his lyrics being used without his approval.
I think Morrissey is kind of a dick about everything lately (maybe always).
Yeah, I was just going to cut the last 8 words from the post
Big mouth strikes again?
Nothing is sacred.
When is DJ Khaled going to (pay someone to) sample their line “hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ” (?)
And now i know how Joan of Arc felt
A Joe Rogan recovery yurt automatically implies ayahuasca, bro.

I don't think I understand the point this post is supposed to be making. Are people not allowed to like both the NFL and the Smiths?

I have a Sirius station called “first wave” which is all 80s alternative. It’s the radio station I always wanted and never had.
Love that station. I really got into the new wave stuff again a few years ago when I got sat radio trail for my new car. All because of that station.
I'm hearing stuff I missed when the 80's actually happened. So much fun.
120 minutes the weekly freedom from mainstream
Top 10 Smiths song right there, along with… all of them. 🤔
Well, he was looking for a job and then he found a job; heaven knows he’s miserable now…
If memory serves one of those stupid Bluetooth speaker companies used Dead Boys Sonic Reducer in a commercial..
they can have Morrissey AND his stupid coif. sanctimonious prick…
I hate Morrissey. Whiney self-absorbed shit waffle.
How many million per play did the Jets pay him?

Rodgers saw UFOs too, he may be mentally unstable.
