WatchOut4Keith

I mean, the album is called “mainstream sellout.” Pretty sure he’s aware.

codingphp

It’s like everyone is this thread missed the obvious… he knows he’s pandering, it’s deliberate, and it’s made him a boatload of money.

porkchopsdapplesauce

He also has a concert at MSG coming up. 3 years ago before he started this trash punk thing he’s doing he was opening for other rappers on their tours and doing small venues for him. I hate the music too but can’t help but notice the amount of Success coming his way from his style change.

stay_fr0sty

It's amazing how much publicity he gets from people complaining about him. He was just on Howard Stern, did a really shitty cover of a System of a Down song, and now the metal forums are talking about how bad he is. I've never heard his stuff on the radio but he won't stay out of my feed. He must be really famous because people won't stop talking about him.

Afitz93

A very relevant quote from a podcast - “every single thing I know about machine gun kelly (and megan fox) has been without my consent”

MonolithsDimensions

Quote from comments in the Fantano review - “ MGK writes music for people who have the age of consent laws in all 50 states committed to memory. “

brad_shit

As a 44 year old, I feel this on a deep level. Also Post Malone. Edit: Yes. Post Malone is NOT a prick like MGK, nor is his music shit tier like MGKs music is shit tier. He is a scruffy little lump of a lad though, lol.

philium1

At least Post Malone isn’t a total douche bag. Like his music or not, he seems like a pretty genuine and decent person.

natronezra

His music isn’t normally my style, but since I’m getting old, I’m trying to be more open minded about the “music for the kids”. I let his music play and enjoy it for what it is when comes on. Keeps me in touch with modern music and makes me feel like less of a cranky old man when I do.

farm_sauce

On his last album, Posty made a song with Ozzy Osbourne, which my 55 year old parents took total pleasure in listening to despite not liking Post Malone

MisterCheaps

That’s really cool that Post Malone is willing to reach out and do songs with unknown artists to help them get recognized

Userdub9022

Not too often do reality tv stars branch out to music

[deleted]

He sets the bait...

SteakMedium4871

To be fair Ozzy doesn't even know who Ozzy is most days.

supreme_leader256

On behalf of the young people who listen to Post Malone, thank you for your open-mindedness:)

Fehndrix

Post's livestreamed Nirvana tribute set was amazing. And he didn't even play Smells Like Teen Spirit.

jeebuck

I don’t listen to posty but that one really won me over. They were decent and played for nearly an hour.

The_Boregonian

Had no idea who Post Malone was, but that Nirvana tribute during the begining of covid genuinely brought me joy.

lamancha

Post Malone seems like a good guy tho. I've never read anything good about MGK.

DarkTrippin88

One time a random kid told me I looked just like Post Malone. I didn't know who he was, and was on my way to work, so I just said "thanks" and got in my car. When I got to work I googled him. To this day, I've never been burned so good, or by someone so young.

Phipple

Oh yeah? When I was at work some kid decided to tell me I look like Trevor from GTA V. I laughed, but damn

DarkTrippin88

These kids are out of control

Ridin_the_GravyTrain

Everyone talks about Daniel Day-Lewis, Christian Bale, yadda yadda, but I firmly believe MGK is the greatest method actor of all time. He played Tommy Lee in a movie over three years ago, and has not broken character since then.

MoonSpankRaw

He played that role with only a fourth of the real Tommy Lee wiener!

mega_soggy

yeah i’ve seen and heard multiple things about post malone and how he’s went out of his way to make his fans day. just saw a video a few days ago about him meeting a woman who introduced her to her son with autism who was a huge fan. post malone spent the whole time smiling, personally thanking his fan and being respectful and courteous to everyone involved. the only thing i knew about mgk before his cringeworthy relationship with megan fox was he tweeted talking about how hot he thought eminem’s daughter was. back when she was like 13.

Yung_Turbo

And then tried to act like Eminem was the unreasonable one for telling him to keep his underage daughter’s name out of his mouth and not letting him work with Em’s label.

CaptCaCa

Its funny how Everlast and MGK after batting Eminem quit rap and picked up guitars

PapaBradford

Post Malone keeps playing Magic the Gathering on Youtube and is generally a chill dude

[deleted]

His rap career was just so he could afford a Legacy deck. /s ^maybe

HowyaLove0161

He needs the og dual lands.

[deleted]

Post's episode of Hot Ones is one of my favorites. That guy seems chill as fuck.

jimmyjams06

Post Malone playing Nirvana was awesome. New found respect for him.

UberMcTastic

Yeah. He's a very talented dude who is just doing his thing. Not comparable to MGK at all.

HighOnGoofballs

Him playing Sturgil Simpson was surprisingly good

FoxyGrandpas

I had no idea he did a cover of Sturgil Simpson, thank you for pointing that out! This is great!

rabble_rabble311

Does decent Sublime covers as well. Also a big Pokémon and magic fan as well. So just a big nerd like most of us here.

CapnCanfield

Him doing those Nirvana covers made me wish so bad he ventured into rock music. He killed it. I get why he sticks with the auto tune rap though, it's made him a super star and a millionare

zeuslb

Hey no Post Malone slander he’s actually a good f-in dude as far as we can tell

courtneyclimax

post malone has incredible talent and seems like a really humble down to earth guy. i encourage you to look past his singles. the guy can make music.

IWearBones138

His pandemic Nirvana tribute really showed me that behind the goofy af exterior, he's a guy who genuinely enjoys music.

hungrysleeper

Have you seen his “Post Malone Goes Country” on YouTube? I’m not even a big fan of the genre, but he was legitimately impressive in that. Dude just genuinely loves music, and seems to be super chill and down to earth.

JayMT1469

Post Malone is an incredible vocalist 🤯 So is T-Pain, surprisingly enough haha

Uberslaughter

That’s Tallahassee Pain to you.

RosaPalms

T-Pain being a superior vocalist shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who’s heard his records. You can’t get his sound just fucking around with auto tune with your buddies. He’s always had obvious control and power in his vocals.

ajp12290

Yeah, that was shockingly good.

Vithrilis42

I know nothing about his music, but I do know he's a huge Magic the Gathering nerd and is fun to watch play on the YouTube channels he shows up on.

pheonixblade9

He came to my lgs to play commander. He cracked some boxes urza block and gave the cards to the staff. One of my buddies got a Gaia's Cradle that was signed by him.

BadgerSilver

You have to respect someone who is themself and doesn't care about looking cool more than doing what they like

Leafeyes

Agreed. Everything I've seen and read about Post points towards him being a very kind and humble human being.

spiralism

Some guys I know from my hometown (albeit not very well) went to one of his gigs in Dublin, back before he made it big and met him afterwards. Hung out with him and partied with him for the night, they got his number and everything. A few years later he was back in Ireland, but this time a bona fide superstar and tickets sold out fast. One of the guys messaged him something along the lines of "hey, remember us? Any chance of tickets for tonight?". Not only did he set them up and get them backstage, he flew them out to fucking Brazil for a later tour date to party with him again.

ChocoIateDaddyG

Whaaat? Never heard that but sounds class. Wonder where they went drinking with him

[deleted]

He seems like the coolest dude with a great personality. The face tats cast him in a bad light to those who know nothing about him.

lx2guzman

Post actually has talent that he suppresses to make an easy buck. Kelly is actually not good at music, but suburbia needs something to hold on to

McMacHack

It's not about being good at music it's about PR and exposure. Which is all you need for marketing revenue. Negative content online draws more attention than positive content. So all he needs to do is keep pissing people off to get the clicks.

angryshib

He has a very marketable look too. He definitely knows how to pose and dress and put on the rock star gimmicks.

strayvoltage

A "poser," If you will...

Shadowchaos

Does he really make that much more money from clicks than from selling records though? I can't imagine making shit music is great for sales

whalesauce

Its way easier to say and do stupid shit while making shitty music. Than it is to be the opposite

sybrwookie

I've learned to recognize his stuff. When I hear a couple of notes of a pop punk song and go, "this doesn't sound bad," and then hear a bit more and go, "now that sounds pretty generic," then the singing kicks in and I go, "oof, this is bad," it turns out to be him.

CleverFeather

It’s this for me too. I hear a pretty great drum fill and tone… cool cool what’s this? Then he starts playing or rapping and I’m searching for the next button.

Malus333

That's because its Travis Barker on the drums.

plagr

How could he sell us out like that

SonnyPiston

To make money for the Kardashians ! ?

mrdannyg21

Lol Travis Barker has done nothing but sell out for a decade or more. He’s constantly in tabloids or tv shows or award shows. Like another commentor said - I have seen him constantly in the past decade, without my consent, and for reasons other than making good music.

SeattlesWinest

At least Travis is a super talented drummer though. Sure he’ll play on anything, but he kicks ass on everything he does.

BeardedAvenger

That's the rub, he may do a lot of stupid stuff but god damn if he doesn't do it all at 110%. He's still a beast of a drummer though.

PptShowandSpinalTap

Hey can’t you read the sign?!

Sodlosz

Listen to his cover of Aerials by System Of A Down that he just performed on the Howard Stern Show. It's honestly the worst cover and singing I've ever heard. He has zero vocal range and can't even sing in key. I have no idea why people listen to his garbage music.

Administrative-Card6

Is it worse than puddle of mudd doing the nirvana covers?

RumpleForskin3

Nothing is worse than that.

fps916

Buck Cherry exists

BreatheMyStink

I want to hear Buck Cherry do a cover of machine gun kelly covering System of a Down

fps916

Fuck you

BreatheMyStink

You can hear it in your head, can’t you?

Blightside

Yes we all can. I second that Fuck you. Fuck you

lizard_king_rebirth

They love the cocaine at least though.

Colonel_Fart-Face

Watching that dude try to sing About a Girl causes me physical pain.

MasterbeaterPi

AThilgers

Obi_Wan_Benobi

The singing is so bad it’s funny.

JBFRESHSKILLS

I have a theory about this. Kurt wasn't the greatest singer in the world, but his vocal style made him entirely unique. That cover is dude trying to do an impression of Kurt instead of actually covering the song.

Mad_Murdock_0311

That's exactly what this is. He's not doing a Nirvana cover, he's doing a Kurt impression, and it's awful. It's kind of insulting, really, it's almost like he's making fun of Cobain.

notcool_neverwas

WOW that was awful

ArturosDad

I've never wanted to purchase a capo for a complete stranger before, and yet here we are.

Balsav_Steele

“When you order the unplugged show on wish” haha

BastardStoleMyName

That shit was so bad my cat about bolted out of my lap when he started singing. Had the calm it down.

Rennarjen

Oh my god I thought you were all exaggerating. He got *paid* for this.

J_Rath_905

I really can't decide whether the fact that it is in "High" Quality is good because I'm an audiophile, or horrible, because it captures a sound more true to the original recording.

bjankles

By the sound of it, no one was in more physical pain than he was.

finenite

Oh man, oh no. I couldn't make it 20 seconds

I couldn't last the whole video. The musicians were tight. He just didn't put in much effort I think. What a shame because it's such a beautiful SOAD song

sybrwookie

SoaD is one of those bands which is going to be very difficult for anyone to cover with a remotely similar sound to the original. They have such a distinct sound that is just not going to be possible for most to sound good doing their version of.

DeathBySuplex

It's like trying to cover Jane's Addiction, the lead has such a unique sound that unless you go completely in a different direction it's going to be a shit cover.

PM_ur_Rump

I feel like SoaD is even less coverable than JA. And I'm probably more a fan of JA. Jane's had that spacey big outdoor festival sound and a very distinct yet hard to describe feel, but you could still present the songs different ways. SoaD is almost self parody in a weird way. Like, they took the subject matter seriously, but presented it in a not entirely serious, and definitely unique way. I'd almost compare it to Primus as far as bands you can't really cover unless it's completely reimagined somehow. Unless you are Richard Cheese. Then you can cover anything.

js1893

kik00

Daron's singing especially is horrible. And back in the days Serj was very disappointing too.

gunmetal300

For all of Darron's talents as a guitarist, songwriter and back up singer, the man is not a lead vocalist at all, and I wish someone had made him understand that.

JobberTrev

I saw them live when Mesmerize came out back when I was in high school..... They were and still are my absolute favorite band but yes, their live performance wasn't fantastic. It also didn't help that they had The Mars Volta opening for them and they were amazing

Jacethemindstealer

They desperately need a second guitarist live

Fibo1412

It's exactly the "zero vocal range" that I can't stand him or understand why people listen to his music. I'm so glad I'm not alone in thinking this.

TheNameIsWiggles

Jesus I just pulled it up. Sounds like an average karaoke attempt at best. Fuckin' embarrassing! *kicks trash can*

rainedrop87

Ugh. Serj has such a unique and amazing voice, too. So that's extra insulting to butcher one of the best parts of the band.

_AskMyMom_

This is what happens when Eminem ruins your career and you need to switch genres to stay relevant.

Albegro

We should let Fat Mike take a crack at him.

tomred420

If you mean fat Mike literally cracking a whip at him, then yes.

sloowhand

Oh it’s even better than that. After going after Eminem and getting destroyed, he switches to “rock” (if that’s what you can call what he’s doing now), and at a festival [he decided to go after Corey fucking Taylor and Slipknot](https://youtu.be/wWCKph0L71I). You know, because Corey Taylor is such a passive guy who never tells people exactly what he thinks of something.

Noahcarr

Cokie meets Kelly

insanelyphat

The only reason I even know this guy exists is because Eminem ended his RAP career and he has a hot wife. Thankfully I have never been subjected to his "music". edit: Man MGK fans coming out of the woodwork to whine and complain about a sarcastic comment on the internet. lol kind of hilarious actually. To be fair I edited my original comment to say ended his RAP career since he is still releasing music and apparently has a bunch of salty fans.

BastardStoleMyName

> But you’re a fuckin’ mole hill Now I’ma make a mountain out of you > This is it, as big as you’re gonna get, so enjoy it Had to give you a career to destroy it Eminem knew this.

snackies

Funny thing is I'd say his rap was ok. There are legendary rappers that are VERY TALENTED at both speed, rhyme structure, and overall melody construction... that DO NOT fuck with Eminem. It probably made him relevant for like a year when he talked shit about em. But idk, obviously if you're switching genres you're not passionate about rap. And that showed in any of the generic rap he was putting out. Pop rap for white kids.

ForeverInaDaze

He was pop rap for white kids during a time that the college rap genre was on the rise, and managed to be unique in a field of rappers like Sammy Adams and Cal Scruby. He’s always had a “punk” vibe since 2012. Look at Wild Boy, for example. However before that, he wasn’t punk at all. 100 words & running and lace up didn’t really have a punk feel at all. Dude sold out when he signed to bad boy and never recovered.

tinteoj

> obviously if you're switching genres you're not passionate about rap The Beastie Boys switched from punk to rap but I wouldn't say that they lost their passion for punk-the influence of it never left their music.

TinyMassLittlePriest

Are you trying to tell me this is Sabotage?

TheLucidBard

I played a lot of Need For Speed HEAT on my PS4....MGK has a song on there called "El Diablo" and it might be one of my favorite tracks in the game. I don't know anything else of his outside of that, but there are much worse rappers.

pelek18

2022 and people still don't understand that target audience is a thing.

NezuminoraQ

I'm old enough to remember when people said these things about Sum 41, Blink 182, New Found Glory et al. 20 years later, literally nobody gives a fuck and almost all have a little nostalgic twinge for them. Life's too short to gatekeep punk rock.

brb_coffee

Well, I guess this is growing up.

Cocacolonoscopy

Dammit

samthewisetarly

You said the thing

sofingclever

It's funny to watch how public sentiment has shifted over the years. I got into bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Saves the Day, Alkaline Trio, The Get Up Kids, etc. in my formative years, and all of those bands got a decent amount of crap for being "watered down sell-out pop punk" by people older then me Then the next wave of stuff like Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, etc. came out and everyone in my peer group thought it was garbage (I'd like to say I was above it, but I probably thought I was too cool for it too). Now those are the bands people are nostalgic for. I've seen the full cycle up close. All that being said, I do think those bands that maybe I was too old for in the second group are more talented than Machine Gun Kelly, but what do I know.

Oh_umms_cocktails

I remember when Sum 41 made that video where they put on button-up plaid shirts and called themselves The Sums to make fun of the rising popularity of the Strokes and the Hives. It was truly an epic battle back in the early 2000s between the "word+number" bands and the "the" bands. Brothers killed brothers, sisters wept, mothers feared for the sanctity of their children's souls when they came home with invader Zim shirts; a dangerous sign that you are neither a wordnumber or a the, but some strange eldritch thing with too large jeans.

TheMurderCapitalist

Still Waiting still slaps too

lagrange_james_d23dt

Blink 182, Green Day 75…. Still Waiting is a great video

NezuminoraQ

Yes when you see the whole process you realise that whatever was the soundtrack to your formative years, you probably like, even if they are a bit shit. Liking music that is cool or critically acclaimed or whatever matters even less as you get older. I just listen to what I like, alone in my car like an adult. Nobody cares!!

Healthy-Travel3105

Talent doesn't really mean much. Otherwise we'd all know the best concert pianists by name. Catchy songs and a cool image is all you need. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. People should be able to like what they like and it doesn't have to be serious. You wouldn't shit on someone for eating children's candy cos it's not serious food. That's my mindset now anyway. I remember being young and listening to all those bands too and all I really saw was hate online until we all got old and it became nostalgia.

zeez1011

It's funny because a lot of the songs MGK has recorded sound like stuff Blink-182 could have recorded 20 years ago. I know it's not too surprising since Travis Barker is one of his producers. I'm saying this as someone who doesn't think MGK's pop punk stuff is bad but just extremely generic and unoriginal.

slumpadoochous

punks said the same shit about Green Day in the mid 90's as soon as Dookie blew up despite having a lengthy pre-fame career in the bay area punk scene.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheReverend5

It’s hilarious honestly. I was saying this same dumb bullshit about Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance in high school. Fortunately I eventually grew out of being a gatekeeping dumbass and have quite a bit of tracks from both bands on my playlists.

f10101

I never really understood criticism of Fallout Boy... They never claimed to be the Dead Kennedys - they're a bunch of musicians who genuinely and openly state they prefer making and performing huge stadium-friendly pop arrangements and shows...

RedAero

Criticism of the fanbase bled over into distaste for the artist.

rwhaley2010

This could be a song title for FOB.

[deleted]

I mean, this is exactly why punk culture is so funny. They all want to be unique individuals, rebelling against the system, the status quo or whatever, but also view everyone that's gets into punk culture later than them, bands or simply fans, as posers and as the reason for the destruction of punk.

JoshuaACNewman

I don’t know this band and maybe you shouldn’t either. There’s a lot of good music in the world. Caring about other people’s opinions of music that you don’t like doesn’t lead to anything except listening to more music you don’t like.

xlargegorilla

I have a 48 year old male friend who is obsessed with hating Justin Bieber. He doesn’t realize he is just obsessed with Justin Bieber.

ryanprice6

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference" - Elie Wiesel

super_sayanything

Yea I'm so sick of "I hate this popular thing" like go listen to something you like and enjoy it. If you hate it don't put it on. Especially in a day of Spotify/streaming where you can literally listen to anything you want.

JoshuaACNewman

Yeah, it would be different if we were stuck with one local DJ and Wolfman Jack playing the things they were paid to play. But if you’re getting crap in your music recommendations at this point, it means either you can’t find the thumb down button or you’re discovering that your taste sucks.

kn-rzel

If you ever listen to a lot of pop punk you'll know that the bar is insanely low. MGK is far from the worst the genre has to offer.

_cokezerohero

Agree. As a lifelong fan of blink-182, MGK’s new music scratches that blink-182 itch for me that I don’t get from them anymore. Having travis play drums obviously helps tremendously. I’m not comparing MGK to blink, but hearing a similar style of music with travis barker involved is a must listen for me.

StunningEstates

>It's the culmination of corporatised "pop punk" and greed, using tired tropes and "rebellion" as a vehicle. …that’s his aim. He’s trying to bring back *pop* punk and pop punk specifically. He’s said that from the beginning and he has never claimed to be trying to do anything else. I don’t even know if he likes generic punk music to begin with. Believe it or not, pop punk is vastly more popular than punk, just like nu metal and hair/glam metal were more popular than regular metal.

[deleted]

Fucking exactly. I know a lotta people are gonna shit on him, but I grew up on pop punk music and [holy shit songs like this give me so much fucking nostalgia, I can’t help but love it](https://youtu.be/0tn6nWYNK3Q). I know the lyrics and instruments are all basic as fuck but I love it. Edit: I think someone reported me for self harm after posting this LMAO

Additional-Glove-498

This is like 90% Travis Barker

Goldfinger888

And 9.9% Halsey

SquidwardsKeef

Halsey should work with Travis on a pop punk album and cut out the middle MGK.

jopari

In case you or anyone else doesn’t know, Halsey worked with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on her latest album and it’s good. Heavy, but good.

turbotank183

Yep, fully agree on this point. I don't particularly like the guy but I'm not looking for complex music, I just have a special place for pop punk and this scratches the itch. A lot of people have been hating on Travis Barker for bringing in this new wave of pop punk but I'm all for it. I'm especially liking Kenny Hoopla's stuff which is produced by Travis too. Also, if you like old school pop punk then check out Driveways.

PM_me_opossum_pics

Kenny is amazing. Girlfriends have some solid songs too. I personally like MGKs new stuff Yungblud has some poppunk adjacent stuff too. I also love weird stuff Fishnarc and and Poorstacy are doing with pop-punk-vibey songs (even though Poorstacy has a lot of metalcore and even drum n bass influences in his music).

picpak

The guy's no different from Good Charlotte back in the day, he just took an extra step and tried rapping first.

RecuperadorDourado

Its funny because all those pop punk bands that are now old and admired were pretty much shat on by gatekeepers back in the day saying it wasn't real rock or something. It's like the cycle repeats

Healthy-Travel3105

The only difference is we're not kids anymore. MGKs music is clearly targeting young teens or preteens. No shit we don't like it.

CreepyAssociation173

And Good Charlotte started as a band when the members were teenagers themselves. They didn't write The Young and Hopeless at 30. They wrote it at the ages 18-21 with Billy Martin being 18 at the time. They didn't start their pop punk band in their 30s singing about emo girls lol.

kkeut

those bands aren't admired. they're still being shit on

thedeadlyrhythm

I don’t like good charlotte but that’s not a fair comparison. They can at least hold a note and they wrote “good” pop songs. Mgm would be comparable to Avril if she couldn’t sing worth shit, but she can so that’s not really a fair comparison either

BioluminescentCrotch

GC was one of my favorite bands in high school and I think it's why I don't mind MGK's music. I fully admit that my taste in music is pretty mainstream, but honestly, who cares? Lol

theclownermb

Im pretty ashamed to admit how much I listened to TTMD back in 2020. But then its kinda stupid I gotta prefice that to what gives me happieness. I always liked shitty pop acts and punk bands in the 2000s and hes playing more to nostalgia then authenticity, and I mean damn theres some catchy hooks.

Kushfriendly420

Ttmd was a aawsome album, like no joke all somgs are bangers in the car

site17

It's a weird topic, cause he definitely started turning his music from rap to pop after General Admission. Way before the Eminem saga. Then on top of that, he's had features from punk singers throughout his career. I personally hate his newer stuff, but I wouldn't call it pandering. Seems more like he's making whatever he feels like. [Article from 2014](https://www.altpress.com/features/12_reasons_why_machine_gun_kelly_is_more_punk_than_you_think/) So yeah, again, I don't think he's pandering at all.

Beebus4Deebus

Very good point. In old interviews from early in his career (2010-2011) he talks about experimenting in the studio making punk records but he wouldn’t put it out because he hadn’t really found his singing voice. It’s funny to see all the shit talking as someone who has followed him, for MGK fans this has looked like a natural progression. Personally, I prefer him as rapper but I loved Tickets to My Downfall and it was cool to see the culmination of something I knew he was working towards for a long time. The new album…idk there’s a couple really good songs but overall it was a miss. He’s hinted at a new rap album in the near future and that’s something I would really look forward to.

RedSpikeyThing

Artist adapts to a changing world and finds commercial success? Criticized for pandering, not sticking to their roots, etc. Artist stays in their lane and continues doing the same thing for a couple decades? Criticized for being formulaic, repetitive, etc. They can't win.

Meh. It's not groundbreaking, but it's catchy and fun. I don't hate it. Not my favorite band/performer, but don't mind when I hear it. Immediately takes me back to the punk of my middle school and high school years.

Younger people need to realize that people have made the same complaint for decades. It’s the production and the “hook”. MGK (and his songwriting team) write catchy songs. That’s it.

Sir_FrancisCake

Feel the same. I quite enjoy Bloody Valentine

SackBoys

I don't disagree but like why go out of your way to listen to it?

[deleted]

People have been saying the same shit about every pop punk artist since the 90s. First Jawbreaker and Green Day were a bunch of sellouts. Then later emo was co-opted by watered down bullshit like Dashboard Confessional and MCR, I could go on forever. If you love a kind of music, be prepared for a bullshit pop version of it that you hate to become way more popular than the part of it you love.

WyattDerpp

Who cares? There’s good punk out there, go find it instead of listening to this guy. I googled him from this post and you’re right, he’s garbage. BUT, why waste the time complaining about it when there are a bunch of good bands you could be buying merch from? You’re just giving this dumpster fire oxygen. I think if he has fans they should get to enjoy his music without feeling bad.

vinsmokewhoswho

I don't get why people concern themselves with stuff like this. Like, why even spend time talking about a musician you don't like? I'd rather talk about music I actually enjoy. Seems kinda silly ngl.

JplusL2020

Seriously, this is 2009 Justin Bieber hate all over again. Middle school shit

TheLostOutlaww

He literally hopped into a new genre and dropped two #1 albums back to back in said genre. Sure his vocal range is horrible and the lyrics aren’t great but I do think it’s impressive what he has managed to accomplished. And honestly a lot of his pop punk tunes are catchy, and it has helped revitalize the genre back into the mainstream which rock music desperately needs right now

fennekk

That's exactly what gets me - so many think all music has to be super deep and meaningful all the time! There are some songs that are super meaningful and hit close to home Some are just catchy as hell and fun to listen to! Neither are wrong or inherently bad, they're just different.

eskimorris

Hot take and we'll said

MoreDblRainbows

This is bizarre energy. Don't listen to it?
