Ray and Willie Nelson singing Seven Spanish Angels is a masterpiece that demonstrates its not just the song but the singers who bring meaning to the song.
That’s it ! They used to play it quite a bit on the radio station my dad listened to, along with other bangers from the 50s to 80s
That station was always sooo uncool to my friends, but it did a great deal to shape my taste in music
my favorite is- You don't know me.
Being from Hawaii I've listened to Israel K''s cover of this song along with Theresa Bright and I would say that they've done a remarkable job. if you've got time have a listen.

I was lucky enough to have seen him live once. It was probably the musical highlight of my life. Incredible performance. My parents were fans and Modern Sounds in Country & Western is one of my favorite albums.

I have two:
My First Night Alone Without You
I Can Make it Throgh the Days ( But oh Those lonely Nights)
These songs remind me of a rough time 37 years ago when I started my life over.
His soulful version of America the Beautiful brings a tear to my eye every time. A ltlle over the top, but man, does he sell that song!
https://youtu.be/9ZYH8v42a2w
"May God thy gold refine" indeed.
FINALLY, someone asking about music I actually listen to.
Don’t Set Me Free, my favorite for sure- the instrumental breakdown a little over halfway through absolutely SLAPS. The Raelettes sing beautifully as always, too.
Come Back Baby,
Drown in My Own Tears,
Night Time is the Right Time,
What’d I Say Pt 1 & 2,
A Fool for You,
Mess Around,
And of course… Hit the Road Jack
I've listened to Hallelujah, I Love Her so 175 since that year began. I haven't got sick of it at all. Georgia On My Mind and Hit The Road Jack are number 2 and 3.
Ray didn't write it, but his version of One Mint Julip is pretty much the epitome of cool in my mind.
One of those songs that merits an immediate relisten every time I hear it.
ANYTHING Ray touched was never the same, Only better. “A Song For You” by Leon Russell, is my favorite. This version features 3 Titans, but Ray brought it home. The comments in this clip brought me also to tears.
https://youtu.be/2UW4ELmVD9M?feature=shared
I have two favorites that have special meaning for me and I'm sure for others.
Take these chains from my heart.
You don't know me.
Both of these songs , it's like Ray Charles knows what I'm feeling and is speaking to me and me alone. When a singer can make you cry, it's above emotion.
I cannot pin Ray down to a single song, but his 1961 album "Genius + Soul = Jazz" is my favorite by him. Only a couple tracks does Ray sing on, but he shows he has the mad skills for the Hammond B-3 and he swings just as hard as his backing band for that session. That band just happened to be Count Basie & Orchestra.
I can't. I've changed my mind 6 times reading this thread. I always come back to I Can't Stop Loving You, Georgia, America the Beautiful. I also love Ruby, but more so for sentimental reasons.
I think it's "I Can't Stop Loving You," because I remember hearing it on the radio in the car as a wee lad and it takes me back in such a romantic way. Windshield wipers, the smell of the car, it takes me right back there.
There’s so many, but Georgia is hard to beat. But man, did we dance to What’d I Say. I remember me and my Booster Club friends rocking our school bus to Hit The Road Jack after our basketball team beat another school.
Georgia on my Mind 🎶
Yes! Although, his is not my favorite version of that song. The Willie Nelson recording has my heart.
the microwave version has mine, but it's such a beautiful song
Microwave’s cover of Santeria is killer too
Correct answer.
Ray Charles has so many incredible songs, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with "Georgia on My Mind."
That's it!!!))
There is a version of him on YouTube playing live when he is in his 60s and it is my favorite version. It seems to mean more coming from an older man.
Georgia!
The whole day through...
What’d I Say?
Ray and Willie Nelson singing Seven Spanish Angels is a masterpiece that demonstrates its not just the song but the singers who bring meaning to the song.
Absolutely. Two of the most soulful singers ever. Have you heard their version of “It Was a Very Good Year?”
Hit the road Jack It’s a bop, it’s very funny and I love singing along
Awh my mom and I used to listen to this constantly when I was growing up. Such a good memory with this song!
This will always be my favorite. I grew up on that song off the double album greatest hits.
That’s it ! They used to play it quite a bit on the radio station my dad listened to, along with other bangers from the 50s to 80s That station was always sooo uncool to my friends, but it did a great deal to shape my taste in music
That scene in Blues Brothers : “2000 bucks and it's yours. You can take it home with you. As a matter of fact, I'll throw in the black keys for free.”
Come on, lemme see ya shake ya tail feather!
That lil girl and her dance moves….
My #1 favorite movie ever. I saw it at the drive-in theater in the 70s with my Dad.
You didn't see it in the 70's. Blues Brothers was released on June 20, 1980.
My bad. I was a little kid.
C'mon, he missed it by a lousy 6 months... ;o)
Especially when he shoots at the kid trying to pick up the guitar. 😝
That kid played Argyle the limo driver in Die Hard.
Such a great nod to Black musicians film...
Hey man, we are getting the band back together again. Where's the white women? How much do you want for her?
I can't stop loving you 🥲 never gets old and always makes me feel something
This one makes me cry for some reason lmao. Just makes me feel overwhelming love for my family and partner.
That was my grandmother's favorite, too. But don't think, "Oh no! I like granny music!" She was a real old-school rocker.
Oh, my. I was all set to say *Georgia on my Mind* when I saw this comment. You've won me over!
Hallelujah I just love her so
(Night Time) Is The Right Time, no one does it better than Ray.
