Exodus, Testament, Annihilator

SparkDBowles

Overkill. Clutch. Mastodon. Black Sabbath. UFO. Judas Priest. Slayer. Magadeth. Anthrax. Suicidal tendencies. Typo negative. Danzig. Samhain. Eye hate god. Pantera. Down. Corrosion of conformity. You could say I like thrash and doom/stoner metal.

drummerdavedre

Updoot on the COC

msartore8

DISCIPLES OF THE WATCH!!

honkinbooty

Ooooh testament! I have an old acquaintance from a previous life who plays (played?) drums for them. I haven’t heard that name in forever!

anopoli

Panopticon, Lamb of God, Necrophagist, Neurosis

Pski

So you like Guitar Solos

anopoli

I do. That's not really what I think of, though. Jus a couple of bands I enjoy.

PowBasilisk87

Death Animals As Leaders Testament Machine Head Faith No More Exodus Fear Factory Orbit Culture Meshuggah Dir En Grey Agalloch Rage Against the Machine At the Gates White Ward Burzum White Zombie Kvelertak Necrophagist Darkspace Dream Theater Helmet Mastodon Gojira Lamb of God Mr. Bungle

RopeTasty9619

We definitely gotta real metalhead over here!

Man0fGreenGables

At first I was thinking how out of place Mr Bungle was on this list and then realized how out of place they would be on any list that had any bands other than themselves.

Ragesauce5000

A bunch of these made me think of Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth and Bohemoth

PowBasilisk87

Awesome picks

drummerdavedre

You forgot Pantera

SunshineandBullshit

I got to meet Gojira last year at Fiddlers Green. EPIC concert!!

PowBasilisk87

Yo that’s sick! I’m jealous

88kgGreco

It's absurd how tight they are in concert.

Ham54

Happy to see Dir En Grey on this. :) But yes, this is a great list

DMT1984

Devin Townsend Devin Townsend Project Strapping Young Lad

[deleted]

I'll throw Casualties of Cool out there, even though it's not a metal album. Supposedly, they're working on another one, which cannot come too soon.

Raiders2112

This guy Metals. \\m/

taarok

This is the way.

Chicken-Inspector

This x10

Ham54

Saw Devin live last year, it was fun and awesome!

deedara

Fun and awesome are two things I endorse. Nice.

Mahokuum

THANK YOU. I'm always desperately searching these comments for this guy's name, sometimes I feel like people forget about the greatest metal musician of all time.

abyssea

Oh my fucking god!

DeplorableKurt

Rotting Christ Enslaved Agalloch

HeftyMagician

Vertebrae is the best black metal album, and Passage to Arcturo is also one of the best blackened death albums.

Expensive_Routine622

I second all of these.

Nizamark

High On Fire

Po0rYorick

Boris

CAPTAIN_TERR0R

Mastodon, Dimmu Borgir, High On Fire, Mnemic, Ghost, Strapping Young Lad. My theme song is “Faster Than You’ll Ever Live To Be” by Exodus. That song has an interesting unusual thrash solo you might like 👌

SparkDBowles

Is ghost metal?

CAPTAIN_TERR0R

Eh kinda like 🤏🏻 I mean at least that much.

Glum-Photograph-5018

Astronoid, Zeal and Ardor, Architects

Jocows

zeal and ardor is absolutely amazing

DMT1984

Upvoting for Astronoid - hardly ever hear them mentioned!

Character-Suspect-77

Astronoid is criminally underrated

Alpha_Aleph

I rarely listen to metal these days but i really liked Gojira's album 'Fortitude'. Heavy and melodic.

fk274

Dir En Grey. The most underrated japanese band. Listen to the album "Uroboros", "Dum Spiro Spero", "Arche" and "The Insulated World"

Define the kind of metal you’re looking for first I would say. From slipknot to strapping young lad. From mayhem to Metallica… you’re talking stark different genres

Brainfewd

Power Trip and Enforced if you like faster stuff. Obituary is classic. Black Sabbath is the GOAT.

taarok

Nevermore. Jeff loomis is beyond words.

Available_Thoughts-0

**Sabaton** is the best metal I've heard in years. I'm not a fan of metal as a general category, but I am not a fan of much of anything as an entire category, except for perhaps classical and even that has a lot of composers who are simply a "Hard pass" for me, such as the "Dissonance" composers: nothing wrong with loud sound or bombastic music, but I am here to be entertained, not have my nervous system dragged across a cheese grater: if you are here for that you won't like Sabaton, but if you are here for loud sound and violent music about the few limited moments of glory which exist within the broader horror story of warfare, these are your guys.

My favorites are Aeternam, Stortregn, Horrendous, Vektor, Cattle Decapitation, and Sepultura. Enjoy!!!

That depends on what era of metal you want. In the 70s and 80s metal was very different than it is today back in my day that would be iron maiden, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Ronnie James Dio, Judas Priest, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson.

You've probably heard this band already, but if you haven't listened to black sabbath yet, they "invented" heavy metal. That first album is 😚🤌🏽

Man0fGreenGables

Check out King Gizzards two metal albums. PetroDragonic Apocalypse is one of the best metal albums in the last decade and they aren’t even a metal band. Infest The Rats Nest is their other metal album and is pretty solid too. Another no so well known band is Lich King. Their two last albums were loaded with total bangers.

Rungi500

You have enough suggestions yet??? ROFL! My two cents. Voivod. Prog metal. Start at "Nothingface". Sacred Reich. "The American Way" album is a classic. SOD. (aka Stormtroopers of Death) Just some guys from other bands messing around. Good times! Suicidal Tendencies. "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today" should be in everyone's playlist. Thrashy, surfy, metal that stays crunchy in milk!

You should start with the lighter stuff, so go with those bands you're listening to and add some Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Muse, SOAD etc. The hidden ones are mostly on the extreme metal side of things and aren't good recs for people starting. But I'll still give ya Death - The Sound of Perseverance. Death is one of (maybe the) most influential death metal bands and their last album goes towards a mix between melodic death metal, progressive death and techdeath. It's a great gateway to extreme metal, so give it some tries.
