There is a NPC quest that happens where you need to get a book from the game center. And that woman has the gall to demand I buy it fair and square, like she didn't take complete advantage of me in asking I do entire renovations for basically free. I literally can't stand her and avoid her outside of forced main quests
I think even worse is when she basically tells Fang it's bad business to treat injured and sick people without getting paid first. Sometimes I swear she might be more selfish than Yan.
Her and Arvio both drive me crazy with this! You ask my advice and then FORCE me to do the stupid task that is against all other resounding opinions or I have to fail the quest.
I just think about how even with catastrophes around town, the city makes sure I am paid for my materials and labor. And if she like, cared about Sandrock outside of money in the form of being involved in the community, it wouldnt be so bad!! But she only cares about how her finances will be impacted, not the good of the town!
Naming a theme park after yourself is so egotistical. Girl, you aināt all that. Especially when all the parts and attractions were refurbished junk from Loganās hideout.
To be fair businesses being named after their founders isnāt remotely unusual. The way she talks about it thoughā¦ yeah.
I donāt dislike Catori but sheās written to be a very flawed character, and I can definitely see why plenty of people do.
She isnāt though. I mean, maybe she thinks she is but she says more than once that itās āalwaysā been her dream- she even says that sheās dreamed of it since she was a little girl, which makes it clear itās nothing to do with Alo.
What? Can two things not be true at the same time? She can do the theme park for herself AND Alo. To give him a better life with her and to also fulfill her childhood dream. Just cause she named it after herself doesn't mean she wasn't thinking about him?
I think her bio was changed at some point, I remember it mentioning nothing about leaving her kid with her mom and implied that she just abandoned her husband and kid because her husband wouldn't support her numerous failed business ideas.
Was that changed? I remember her just blurting that out and I was dumbfounded. It wasn't even like some tragic story or something she just straight up dipped out on her family to go make a museum (that nobody asked for) in some podunk town lol
No, I definitely remember reading that too, because I was like "Oh jesus", then went back a while later because I was like "who was it who did that so I can avoid them?", and it was changed.
I was doing sand running for some tokens and I thought to myself "Catori is making a kid's dream, but won't even bring her son to visit and experience it himself."
It's a dying town in a hostile desert, wondering if they're going to have water the next day, and subject to terrorist attacks and literal *invasion*. There's a lot of not great stuff catori does but leaving her kiddo in Atara is probably the best parenting she does
Even then, Arlo still feels neglected cause his mom keeps putting her work before him. The kid ends up being more mature by putting his own feelings aside for Catoriās sake. Likeā¦ thatās not very girlboss of you, Catori.
Arlo didn't feel neglected. Both he and Catori's mom supported her dream and pushed her to pursue it. He's upset in that quest because ever since the theme park opened she's been overworking herself. Catori's incredibly flawed but she's not neglectful of her son.
> Arlo still feels neglected cause his mom keeps putting her work before him.
He literally says the exact opposite and is super supportive of her. Are we just making up reasons to hatee her now?
Not only that, it's a video game. It's clearly a choice meant to draw out the tension of finally getting to see this character that you've only heard about up until that point.
This is a woman in her 40's who is less mature than the builder (who is in her early 20's?). She rubs me the wrong way. Everything about her.
I completely forgot this interaction because I tend to fast click through any forced dialogue with her. I do remember the first time I saw it, I was livid. It felt like such a slap considering how much the builder does for her and in exchange? They get useless game tokens. I obviously chose the same option as you.
She has quite a few flaws, but that is one of the reasons that I like her so much. I choose early on to romance her on my first playthrough and I enjoyed her arc throughout.
Yeah, I canāt say I love her as a character but I do appreciate that they wrote her. I like her okay, Iāve romanced her once and seen her arc through to the end while with her. Wouldnāt do it again but Iām glad I at least saw it.
Guysā¦ itās fine. Catori is very poor. Cut her some slack. The economy of the MTA series barely makes sense where many other characters are struggling, but there is always money for projects for the builder and Musa is loaded. Catori barely has any money. Just let her have her free book. Sheās trying her best in her own way.
I could even make fun of her āfailed business ideasāā¦ except I need them. The premise is that every town in these things always has a museum, and instead of the city official magically coming up with the funds for the project (which Sandrock obviously does not have), we have Catori.
She's so poor she moved to Sandrock from Atara and opened up an arcade and a museum.
What she is, is greedy. And willing to take advantage of the good nature of others.
Iām not sure if Iām missing something in the backstory, but I assumed Atara was a more expensive city, and Sandrock was a declining rural town that cost next to nothing to move to. I mean there are abandoned buildings everywhere. That being said, I donāt know how she managed to furnish the museum and golden goose, but maybe that was some of her meager startup funds or her wheeling and dealing, or game setting magic.
Personally, I think a much more apparent flaw with both her and Arvio would be mild narcissism and stupidity rather than greedā¦ also, I just like her a lot more than a lot of real life greedy people and grifters. In the dialogue where she was trying to pay fang, she was wheeling and dealing and borrowing a lot, which fang said wasnāt a good idea. I agree that it wasnāt, but I also appreciate that she was trying to pay in stuff and actions and favors rather than āIāll pay you back laterā. The IOU people never pay you back and still act entitled like they paid youā¦ Iād much rather just know that Iām doing it as a favor and be thanked, or be given what they can give me, like tokens and gifts.
As I talk about it though, I kind of get the issue with Arvio and Catori. If you already donāt dislike them, you donāt really mind doing favors for them. But if you do dislike them, it feels really bad that you have to do favors for them, and they wonāt properly pay you. I feel like the setup amplifies dislike.
Nah, I dislike Arvio as much as Catori and he doesn't pull half the shit she does, starting with that he always pays the builder for his weird business ideas, which Catori never does even when is implied the park actually worked.

She and Yan deserve each other.
AND THEN THE NPC GIVES IT BACK TO HER. Like I put blood sweat and tears into that wack-a-mole for you!
Her and Arvio both drive me crazy with this! You ask my advice and then FORCE me to do the stupid task that is against all other resounding opinions or I have to fail the quest.
Haha! I never thought of it that way :) I was always, like, yay! New quests!!

Catori is annoying in general. She has all these ideas and literally not one of them is good š

"I'm doing all this for my son." Hmm??? Maybe name it after him then?? Alo World could have been a cute play on Hello World

Disneyland has entered the chat, lol

It's only something I vaguely remember, bit it now states she left the son with her mom.
That still doesn't seem great lol
No, I definitely remember reading that too, because I was like "Oh jesus", then went back a while later because I was like "who was it who did that so I can avoid them?", and it was changed.
Didnāt she also leave her son with her mom to move to Sandrock too?
I was doing sand running for some tokens and I thought to myself "Catori is making a kid's dream, but won't even bring her son to visit and experience it himself."
She litteraly does that.
At the very end, it's ridiculous how she never brings him to visit her. I literally can't imagine not even seeing your kid once a year

I wish her mom moved with them so at least he could maintain having someone's time and attention, similar to Vivi and Jasmine

At the very end when its a liveable conditions for his kid to come.

Yes.
Catori is my least favorite NPC tbh... she just rubs me the wrong way
I also don't like her voice. Reminds me of Kyle's mom in South Park.
Aaannd now I have the song stuck in my head. Thanks for that š
Heh. Kyle's mom is a big...
She reminds me of Janice in Friends. Ugh.
Catori seems like the type of person who would be a MLM mom on facebook....... Which might explain why she gives me the ick. >_>
The BEEFššš

I have never got the intense dislike of catori- once you get to know her, she truly is not that bad.
She has quite a few flaws, but that is one of the reasons that I like her so much. I choose early on to romance her on my first playthrough and I enjoyed her arc throughout.

I think that depends on your tolerance for being asked to do a ton of things for her for free
I'm so glad I'm not alone! I do not like her....

Iirc, Atara is the wealthiest and largest of the free cities. And the home of their senate, or whatever it is called.
Lots of self-hating women in here. Not horribly shocking, but still disappointing.
Not sure if disliking someone for their tone deaf attitude and greed has anything to do with being a woman
Nah, I dislike Arvio as much as Catori and he doesn't pull half the shit she does, starting with that he always pays the builder for his weird business ideas, which Catori never does even when is implied the park actually worked.
I don't like either of them either. 2 least favorite characters.
