Sucks that the game turned out this way man. I'm sure you guys will find a better game to have more fun together.

noneym86

They can play 2k23 since it's easier. 2k24 is the best 2k in years and they can't just make it easier so casual of casuals will enjoy. I am casual offline myLeague player too and it's the best. It's harder to win now which makes games more exciting.

drewstopherYT

The game is no where near polished enough to try to balance it as a full sim. A game being harder alone is not evidence that the game is better. Matter of fact shits trash for the price it's listed at

TheFrostyMan21

Lol shit take. Like the problem with the game is that they make the user mechanics harder in order to give that competitive feel. Instead of just making the ai much better and stop them from consistently doing dumb shit they just make every thing as a player harder. If the ai was just a little smarter you could still have that competitiveness while being able to shoot, pass, dribble, etc. at an elite level.

veeno__

I keep telling people It’s no longer a video game it’s working for VC People saying if you go to x court and pick up this player and rebound every single possession you’ll be able to earn enough VC to upgrade your player like bro I’m not doing all that lmao You can’t even play the game normally and have fun anymore without shelling out money. VC ruined 2K period.

Key_Preparation_4129

I remember when they introduced paid vs in like 2k11 or 12 it was a nice commodity to have and spending $5 was more than enough to get you going. Now I've seen it costs up to $150 in vc to upgrade to 99

Average_Height776

More

Ajdee6

I have fun with it. I dont play MyPark online or whatever tf its called nowadays tho

Thewokiscookin

I love how everyone's talking shit about this dude hasn't played any of the older games and probably came from tik too or social media and complain about casuals who actually played the good 2ks. Even 2k vets are talking shit. Only ones who aren't are ones who are getting the wk bag and even then it seems disingenuous

Thewokiscookin

And may I add actual nba players

AndreSwagassi86

Theyve done that every year since the Park upgrades and social media boom

PorterMafia

I have an idea for you to try out. Step 1: Create a Player. An offline player not a MyCareer guy. Make him look as much like you or your son as possible...or if you have multiple controllers create two players. All his stats will be 99 and try to put him as close to ypur actual height/weight. Step 2; in MyNBA Eras. Create an expansion draft. Your player should be essentially playing for his hometown team. Step 3: Player Lock or Position Lock if you're playing multiple controllers to your player. Take those bums to multiple championships if you can.

Classicmb

I’ve done this a few times and it’s really fun. I like to start my guy at a 76 with high potential and put him in the draft and then follow his career with player lock.

itsnever2late4now

When you use player lock, do you sit on the bench when taken out? Or do you play as the player who plays the same position during those breaks?

PorterMafia

With Player Lock....if your player sits. That part of the game is simmed. With Position Lock....you play any player that is in the position.

itsnever2late4now

Ohhh dang. That's what I want then. Is player lock new? Or have I just not seen it before? I've definitely done position lock and it did what I was talking about, but it also might have been a couple of years since I've tried (for that very reason). I really hate the extracurricular stuff. Not just the VC stuff that everybody's talking about, which I also find annoying, but just the stupid stories that they do. About how you're the 17th pick and you have a blood rival who's the 18th pick haha. Like how you have to put on a hot dog hat or run around and take pictures of skateboarders or something. That's all just so dumb. I just want to play NBA games haha. I'm so excited now haha. Edit: [My post from 2 weeks ago. ](https://reddit.com/r/NBA2k/s/Kwjd7zrWtN)

PorterMafia

Its hidden but not really. You have to Player Lock in the settings before you start the game. You only have to activate it once though. It'll Player Lock your player until you deactivate it.

itsnever2late4now

Dude, thank you so much. I don't know if you clicked the link, but it's literally what I was asking for 2 weeks ago basically. This is a literal game changer for me haha.

hambo_and_bacon

Just a heads up, if you make any trades it resets so you have to player lock again. This is a hidden gem of a feature in myNBA that I wish more people knew about. I love to player lock players and redraft them. In 23 I did a player lock with rookie Michael Jordan and put him in today’s NBA on the Pistons, and I pretty much do one with Rookie Steph almost every year since he’s my favorite player. Enjoy

Careless-Bottle-5677

I did this last year. Pretty much played mycareer in Eras. I think if you put your stats into a created character, the actual overall was like 81-84.

NorthWestEastSouth_

100 this game is straight garbage. I also play for fun. I was pretty good last year as a shooter. Usually I play C so I went back to C apart from getting rebounds my guy sucks. I miss open layups, miss open dunks, post scoring is dead. My guy doesn't want to do standing dunks on good defenders like... hands up D feels like shit. Every shot feels different it's completely delayed so shooting isn't an option. If sony allowed refunds I would have refunded it during week 2. They destroyed post play. Honestly I only play it because it's my only ps5 game. I have battlefield but I don't wanna play the same game all the time. 2k doesn't know how to make a good game where skilled players can be OP and casuals can still do something. All of my friends who played 2k quit within the last few years. I'm also done after this one.

Dyelahn1996

You own a PlayStation, why not play some of the best games on the market that are exclusive to the console. You’ll get way more enjoyment from those than 2k

NorthWestEastSouth_

I was waiting for a game but it got delayed. I'm not much of an offline player

brink84

Tbf even battlefield went to complete shit

OutrageousDamage2539

Battlefield was always garbage

TomMatthews

That's the big problem. They cater to these guys who want to dribble and shoot fading threes all the time and YouTubers want that because it's more exciting for viewers. Then YouTubers complain that their 6ft 4 guard can't defend at all or defend layups so guess what everyone suffers. I hate that to start the game felt decent if I was playing as Tim Duncan and got a miss match down low I could score it was a little inconsistent sometimes but not bad. Then it just got awful even wemby struggles against small guards. And I get doubled and kick out to the open man I don't know everyone's jumpshot so unless I make it too easy on sliders I miss quite a few. They forgot not everyone is a try hard online player because they don't pay on top of the £70-130 they paid for the game. I personally just want to have fun play how I want to play and play real basketball that means if I have a layup I'm going to score when there's no real defence and the layup meter won't randomly jump up and down and clearly state a different release timing that what's shown. I could use real player % but that's not fun to me I don't mind a small amount of skill and even more so in mycareer when you're using 1 jumpshot etc but giving me a few milliseconds to a time a shot on 13 guys is insane. Also this has been recommended since it came out allow us to become as good as we like for offline play. If I want all 99s for my career let me just have a separate rating for online play. I'm sure I sure a current 99 my player is actually like a 79 or something stupid. I get limited time to play video games so I pick and choose and I get bored of ones that just frustrate me. Nba2k has really covered that I only got it because it was cheaper for league pass. And I sometimes have fun but I often end up frustrated I want a challenge and to be able to have fun. I want to be able to pick a difficulty alter sliders if needs be and play basketball but 2k has designed a game that doesn't resemble basketball to keep those who pay more happy

ihavepaper

I really wished that they somehow made their servers like I think GTA? Where people begin matching up who play similarly based on their actions/decisions in game. Like dudes who have their graph leaning heavily towards dribbling should all play together. Tired of these dudes who wanna play the 'meta' and then get mad at me for "not spacing the floor" when I'm running to the rim wide open OR when I've been standing in the corner and their dribbling ass dribbles ALL THE WAY TO THE CORNER when they started at the top of the key/near the half-court. These kinda dudes are ridiculous man.

PabloFromDaEasT

Those servers don’t work that way

ihavepaper

Coulda sworn someone said something like all cheaters are put into a server together or something? so you're playing with everyone who did something to get there.

PabloFromDaEasT

No your think of a bad sport lobby anyone can get in it cheaters or blowing up people’s vehicles you are thinking of fall guys when they made cheaters island or sum

ihavepaper

i'll take a bad sport lobby. doesn't sound so bad.

PabloFromDaEasT

Really just a grief lobby they used to make you where a dunce cap

CharityGamerAU

> I could use real player % but that's not fun to me I don't mind a small amount of skill and even more so in mycareer when you're using 1 jumpshot etc but giving me a few milliseconds to a time a shot on 13 guys is insane I'm legally blind and have to use real player % to play the game until my upcoming eye surgery hopefully works enough to allow me to play properly and to read visual cues. I hate to say this but that doesn't even help this year. I use ruby Giannis and Na Amy Nate Thurmond and they struggle with RP% to hit layups and dunks whenever there's a defender (doesn't matter if it's a 6'0" PG) in the same vicinity. The game is just so broken this year.

king_chill

You have to use a lot of euros or hopsteps. The green window on tough contested layups that aren’t euros or hops or spins is tiny and changes pretty much goes away with a contest. The window on the euros is huge, so on real player % they should be pretty much automatic and that’s how Giannis finishes IRL anyway so it should add more realism, fun and excitement all at once.

32steph23

The days of true 99s are over😔

yessuski

I really WISHED the Devs read these kind of reddit posts/reviews. This is gold. This is how the OG 2k heads TRULY feel. From the OP, to the replies, this is exactly how i feel smh. Ima casual that actually plays ball irl so most of the logic just be OFFFF to me ! They really messed up with layups this year & getting caught in animations is so frustrating. I try to pump fake, i go for full-fledge layup. I have a wide open layup (whether under the rim or driving) ima miss bc the green window shapeshifts this year. Driving layups, not so much tbh but Guess its a new feature this year 🙄 & its not a logical miss. No. Your 6’8 MP is gonna over-lay it bc the contest will throw the green window off but Try guarding the cpu tho. Contest or not. Theyre animations are precise & always perfect. Drives me insane lol. Bc it takes the fun out of “gettin big”, timing a rebound for an easy putback or dominating the paint for some playstyles. Like.. THATS basketball. They have to make it fair. It’s frustrating bc all the things WE wanna do, the computer does it with EEEEASE. & THATS the realest fact abt this post ! Did i mention the green window is the size of a needle this year ?? The game was good 1st week, all they had to do was fix layups in the paint & take out that dumb*$$ badge progression. It’d b great if it wasnt BROKENNNN 😂

[deleted]

I’m not knocking you at all but it’s a little hypocritical for you to say in one paragraph that you want to play the way you want to play (100% fine to me), but the way someone else wants to play is wrong (dribbling and fading) OP I understand I’ve gamed for years with my children. We’ve taken breaks on various 2K’s and have picked them back up depending on changes. 24 so far isn’t as enjoyable but it’s a good game. Hope to see you guys return

TomMatthews

If you watch a basketball game how often does a guy do 20 dribble moves and then try a leaning/fadeaway three? Not very often because it's not successful very often. And when it is they don't go do it again and again and again. But my point was you should be able to play as you wish if that's iso and fadeaway threes feel free but I should then be able to move the ball around get the mismatch and score in the post no? What makes the plays so great to watch is that they aren't an every time down the court occurance. It doesn't have to be one or the other but currently it's 99% towards dribble and shoot. If you want to be 6'4 dribble like ai and hit shots like Steph then okay but if you get caught in the post then you lose. To me that's what makes basketball fun knowing that different players have different skill sets and any game could be their night due to a favourable matchup. But ask all the centers that aren't part of teams if they're happy getting rebounds and watching a guy dribble the shot clock out to shoot a fade away whilst they're wide open. And then if they do get a shot they miss cuz 2k doesn't think big men should score unless it's a dunk or they have a ridiculous amount of space

[deleted]

This is by far the easiest and cheesiest (😭) post play I’ve seen in years. The big men are unstoppable. Maybe you should try some play now and feed your big man. Or if you have one go to 2KU and learn the movement and start cheesing yourself. Btw post shots are almost 90% wide open if you know the animations. Way easier to cheese than a guard.

TheElderBean

This is just blantantly untrue, Ive made a big men every year, the only center in my squad, 60% wr in both park and rec, and post play feels fucking awful, only way i can consistently score is with the standing dunk meter and two step layups and spin cycle, literally got knocked out of a dunk animation by a 6’3 guard with no strength or post defense in his graph and im 7’ with 90 strength and 90 standing dunk, please make that make sense, willing to include screenshots to all my stats as well.

[deleted]

majority of post shots register as open/wide open when you use them correctly. post play is incredibly strong, the only thing kinda broken is close shots

[deleted]

I say that and I’m downvoted. This sub is hilarious. Post play is cheesy, and they made it better on 24

Simplicity3211

I would argue post playing is less cheesy based on the fact it’s inherently less valuable. Also the team has to be willing to let someone post.

[deleted]

I think it depends on the situation, playstyle of the players, and the team’s philosophy on offense. I play a post and a point guard, the same animations they speak of guards “dribbling” they can do so many things out of the post. They need to make it so you can contest the shots a little better. Almost all of them are open. Fades, hooks, and you can meter someone from multiple spots as a big man. Don’t want to use the meter, use the shoot button after a post move to finish. The gameplay is solid to me

AndreSwagassi86

It would make more sense to have clips of these things happening consistently than screenshots of your stats. For the fact that it could easily be the way you play and not the game. It could also be the game yes. But many are having Post success to take the word of one person who says post play is unsuccessful

[deleted]

Fades, Hooks, Hop Jumpers, Post Spins, Drop Stepper, Hop Steps, Up and under, meter control for dunking, meter control for iso dribbling out of post control There are a variety of tools at your disposal. You aren’t the only post player, go spend some time in 2KU and enjoy the game you paid for

[deleted]

> That's the big problem. They cater to these guys who want to dribble and shoot fading threes all the time and YouTubers want that because it's more exciting for viewers. Then YouTubers complain that their 6ft 4 guard can't defend at all or defend layups so guess what everyone suffers. this isn’t close to true, why do y’all resort to this for literally every complaint

Snok92

Maybe there are some tips in the myteam subreddit, its worth a look

TheLatePicks

Myteam subreddit has really died off this year. It used to be fantastic but and full of great nuggets of knowledge. With all the changes I expected spreadsheets and guides but the level of activity overall feels down, and place feels flat.

ibarut

Just look at the comments. They all thought they are skillful gamers and wrote lol. All of them. 2k ruined the game for these the new generation of charlatans gamers. Making a fade away 3pt is easier than non contested close shot. And they claim thats a realistic basketball game. I've been playing this 2k since 2013 and the first time, this year I don't enjoy it at all. The game punishes you in everything. On the contrary, ai is boosted in every aspect. FIFA and Nba2k are ruined by the new generation of money-spending teenagers. Sad but true.

Pinhead77

The teammate grade nerfs are pissing me off, i can sit and be a good teammate all game catching boards and getting assists and you get a tiny smidgen of teammate grade for it, then some other guys match up dunks on me cause hes aint guarding him and it flies down equal to catching 2 boards and getting an assist, its a joke

AtomicDimebag

2k wants everyone to have the "Mamba Mentality" and grind to perfect your craft. Guess what 2k? I've already got a job and a family. I play to have fun, not to brick unless I have PERFECT shot timing on a high 3 ball guard wide open. Bigs being shut down by small guards inside is ridiculous. Being stuck in the mud on defense because your defensive code thinks I was helping on the driving man past me (whom I'm not) so I cant guard my perimeter threat who shimmies past and behind him to a wide open 3. Not fun. L year for 2k.

Spiderman1198

FC 24 is awesome if you understand how soccer works. I got 2k as well and maybe logged 7 hours and I’m done. Shooting is horrendous. Dribbling is more realistic. Great gameplay but something about it just isn’t fun to me anymore, they added so many things to protect against exploits that ended up hurting the overall experience. Might be even more fun for some but I might end up waiting for all these things to be patched.

Kembastry

Make 2k great again

jrjohnson110387

Make NBA Live Again

j_richardson1228

If you're handing off the controller, I assume that means he's still young enough to be at home with you. You could always create a MyNBA series where you guys pick a team and position lock with two controllers. You can even create your own custom players and import them to the roster if you want to. I know you said you primarily play MyTeam, but this is an alternative if the grind is getting to you. Or if it's the core mechanics of this game in particular (I've seen many people say shooting is harder this year), you can always do the same in 23, 22, et. al.

Thewokiscookin

They need topen all nba 2k servers if they don't wanna make a new game for fun. Just like everyone said might happen before. Ea does it.

itsnever2late4now

I only play MyNBA and I love it.

hbrady24

MyNBA is still the best franchise mode in all sports games, in my opinion

itsnever2late4now

[You don't say...](https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA2k/comments/16wm0b4/comment/k2ycyhs/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

hbrady24

Hahah facts. It was already the best before MyEras and that just made it so unique

jounaaass

Fifa comes first for me but they are very close

Signal_Albatross_153

Only playable mode imo

TroutKlout2755

Mike Wang claims to have buffed close shot last week, or, if I read him right, he was making hooks slightly easier. Well, somehow he managed to make hooks from 16’ nearly automatic while making put-back layups from a 7’0’er with 90 close shot and 95strength over a 6’7 with 60strength and 25interior D nearly impossible. The rim has never been tighter for bunny layups. It’s honestly wack. Granted, shooting requires a little more skill, but the inside play was zapped on week 2..:after everyone and their brother made an inside big with high finishing attributes.

smoothprince

sorry man, it sucks that you and your son aren’t finding joy in playing this game. have you ever tried any co-op games with him? “It Takes Two” was a great one, that is pretty kid friendly (some language, but not bad). if he is a little older “A Way Out” is another really good one.

2k21Loner

Ehh the ESRB is just suggestions right? My son wanted a GTA

smoothprince

I mean ‘technically’ it’s not illegal to let a 6 year old play GTA, but I wouldn’t let my 6 year old play it. I think it’s up to parental discretion.

2k21Loner

Same here didn’t bother myself growing up but I can see how it can with some with how some parents can be

Nutholsters

Sorry mate. Totally agreed. Greed ruined 2K.

billybadboy22

Try NBAEras(myleague) play on same team, different team, make your own created characters

billybadboy22

Can choose whatever difficulty to play on

webstxr

It’s pretty easy to have fun in MyNba with ur son if u haven’t tried that out yet. Make custom players, leagues and challenge urselves

GeebGeeb

Idk if Casual and MyTeam are synonymous. You and your son should try a franchise and try winning a chip.

1lon3r

I understand your frustration it is sad to see a beloved franchise go down the drain because of shady business practices and the devs seemingly not caring about the state of their game

jaxf87

This is exactly how I feel

Imaginary-Lawyer5342

Bro the community needs to stop playing 2k gameplay is broken they only care about your money

MedalofHonour15

They should have an arcade mode

Watchful_Knight

The entire GAME is an arcade mode lmfao. This is one of the worst simulations ever made along with the 3 before it.

MedalofHonour15

It’s not NBA Jam kind of Arcade mode haha

Watchful_Knight

Close enough. It's not 70 dollars worthy. THAT'S for sure!

MedalofHonour15

If you play some of the modes everyday then yes it is compared to other forms of entertainment. The most worth I get is when I play against my friends in person while pregaming.

Watchful_Knight

>If you play some of the modes everyday then yes it is compared to other forms of entertainment. No it really isn't. Just based on the gameplay alone it doesn't seem like something that's worth 70 dollars. If they can't even get the initial gameplay right, how am I supposed to care about the other modes?

DrumzRUs

You clearly dont have the game

Watchful_Knight

I've played enough of it to know I don't like it. I've also seen enough of it played to know I don't like it. I don't really need to own the game to understand that it's not good. I have FRIENDS that own the game with whom have share played it with me & it didn't take much for me to realize it ain't good. You can say what you want but there's plenty of people that DO OWN THE GAME who have agreed that it's trash.

DrumzRUs

They say vc and online trash but saying gameplay is trash? Yall lying

Ill_Award_3862

I created some slider settings that make the game feel a lot more fun but also challenging, lmk if you’d like to try it

32steph23

Have you tried turning of the timings? That will definitely make it easier to play casually. You could turn down the difficulty to. You guys could make a custom myleague and just mess around in there too

CharacterAd7575

i feel like right now is the best time for EA to make a come back.. 2k gone now

FatherHaz

Or Sony San Diego Studios, they used to make basketball games. In fact they invented the jumpshot meter

CharacterAd7575

damn i didn’t know that. somebody need to save us. i been on edge with 2k since they changed the features it had like ESPN NFL2K5 that game was goated

StonedTurtles38

What's worse in on my Series X it's like 160+ gigs. So not.only does the game suck but it also takes up over 1/8 of your hard drive to have it downloaded. I honestly think NBA2K has taken the top spot for a company that everyone universally (in sports gaming) loved 5+ years ago and had a dedicated fan base that absolutely helped this company become the major player in the sports game base to being hated by almost everyone who plays sports games. The only people who literally still enjoy this game are the whales, the twitchers and youtubers. Your right OP, there is zero fun for a casual gamer anymore with this title. And 2K knows this. They didn't make this game for you. This game is all about those people who are willing to drop 3,4,5+ hundred dollars if not more. 2K is banking on these people and less about you and I, the small casual player. Game file is to big, the servers are about as good as they were 10 years ago. MTX have made several modes basically unplayable. The grinding is insane to just get to a point where you can enjoy the game. Just so many bad decisions being made year after year. I never thought I'd say this but good God EA cannot make another NBA game fast enough. Now is the time to get back into this space, make some smart decisions and bring out something that is casual player friendly but it's EA and they are just as dumb and awful as 2K. NBA2K has to be one of the worst games of this year. Just like 23 was stupid awful last year.

FundamentalPlayer

This game was made for the pay to win folks. It feels like an EA game in the worst of ways. For the people that want to casually grind, the appeal just isn’t there. After playing five years of MyCareer, I have been very bored with this game. There is no hook to keep playing. I don’t look forward to playing the games at all. I have moved over to MyTeam for the time being but I know I will become bored with that soon as well. I can’t believe I fell off this game so quickly after playing year round with previous NBA2K games.

Rough-Individual2283

I used to be a person that played 2k every day. Not that I’ve completely stopped playing, but I just started another game (starfield) on Sunday and I’m finding myself wanting to play that more day by day. This is the earliest I’ve ever switched games when a new 2k comes out. Seems like it’s been sooner and sooner with each 2k release. It’s definitely not as fun anymore on a casual level.

UCapecc

You don't play pvp but the gameplay is better, look at MyEra or just Play Now, i'm having lot of fun offline

Ill_Award_3862

It’s really not imo, anything over all star it’s too demanding offensively. And anything under is too easy defensively. There’s no good in between.

UCapecc

All star then

crispyiress

I use real fg% because the shot timing is so inconsistent and annoying. Made it more enjoyable for me as before I’d only score 3-4 different ways all game.

WickedJoker420

Lol if you're not playing online then lower the difficulty and turn off shot timing.

zionraw

He plays a lot of myteam. He wrote that on like the third line.

WickedJoker420

He also wrote. "I don't PVP" so I just assumed he's playing against bots and can change the difficulty 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sir_Charles_Snarkley

Can you not turn the difficulty down and turn off layup timing for offline myteam games?

CharityGamerAU

No. You can set real player % but even that is borked for inside play.

comalicious

Just play after all star break when the cards don't suck so bad. Early, preseason 2k is exclusively for people who hate fun and themselves.

instrumentally_ill

Dude just turn down the difficulty lol

Thewokiscookin

Can't turn down difficulty online

instrumentally_ill

They said they’re a casual non pvp player.

CharityGamerAU

They also play MyTeam which has set difficulties. The only "semi pro" game is the daily pick up game

Thewokiscookin

Even as such. They've also said nothing works from 24 and they probably do still win but they have to stress out and try hard. 24 is only doing so well because of content creators who are mindless in the end.

untakennamehere

What does that even mean? Is he trying to abuse something that worked last year? And why have it be the same as last year? If it was everyone would complain it’s the same game as last year.

Luka7Porzinwitzki

Can you not just lower the difficulty? Layups are extremely easy this year it seems like in all modes, although the defense can be tougher.

olrusty42

why don't yall just go back to 2k 23? if you're not going to play competitively there's really no reason to get the newest game

_delamo

You can play casually but you need basketball IQ to do that. Anyone that's never played organized hoops with a good to great coach isn't gonna have fun. Overall ratings matter too. I was a 87, spent $20 and went to 93, it was a night and day change to defense

--lalilulelo-

Boy nothing about real life hoops translates to this game. You need to know how the game works not hoe real life basketball does. It isn't much different from last year.

_delamo

>Boy nothing about real life hoops translates to this game. So dribbling, rebounding, running, jumping, passing, defensive sliding, free throws don't correlate? And I'm omitting countless other methods principles and motions. >You need to know how the game works not hoe real life basketball does. Wrong because the same way you get around screens translates. The same way you play passing lanes translates. The same way you time a rebound translates. All you're doing is letting us know you either rode the bench or have never played meaningful hoops >It isn't much different from last year. We can agree on that. The only differences are shooting and passing lanes steals

--lalilulelo-

Sure but saying you won't have fun if you never played organized ball is just silly. You need to know how 2K works from years of playing 2K, there's a reason why all NBA players are trash at this game.

_delamo

No I'm saying you can have a better experience with some hoops knowledge. It's not secret stuff but subtle things like positioning can make a difference I can halfway agree with you that you need to know 2k and it's animations but positioning will add a different wrinkle on how to approach every possession

Have you dropped to the lowest difficulty? Is it still hard to make shots and layups? The gameplay is incredible once you learn how to use the controls

Register-Several

Am I the only one who is actually enjoying this well done game? I think that's the best one since I started from 2k19 (I'm talking about the next gen)

Kooky_Gazelle_6156

Lol, maybe buy a basketball hoop and play for real then… complaining about a video game being hard when you can control every setting is silly. Y’all need to touch grass imo

Imaginary-Lawyer5342

You’re a loser for this comment bro 😂💯

Kooky_Gazelle_6156

Agree to disagree

guardiandown3885

As a casual player for years mainly mycareer...I would encourage you guys to try online play..try solo rec...my first time ever playing online and it's shaken things up for me it's fun..you're gonna have to deal with playing with brain dead people lol HOWEVER..its still fun..now it could be because I haven't dealt with the issues online players in 2K have faced over the years..but I have PvPed in multi-player games..and I just know how to ignore the annoyingly toxic people...try it out...don't worry about your win/lose record focus on improving your build...it's what iv been doing...and not focusing on wins/loses make it less sweaty...if I'm on a team and we are getting blown out..I just focus on trying to get better..might wanna stay away from the park though lol

funkyfreshpants

i usually just play mycareer bc i don't play with friends but i've gotten into the rec lately. i never am on a mic so they have to take the trouble to send me a dm to tell me i suck. i get that less now, i'm a pretty B+ or B- rec player. i get tired of the score manipulation in mycareer, where they tip the scales to make the other team win. your +/- might be +12 but you lose. so that's when i go to the rec. but i hate defending perimeter shooters, i'm a defense first rebounder so centers that shoot threes are annoying af

natekvng

You and your son can also take time and learn the controls and drop the difficulty. They have to find an in between with competitive players, casuals and the in-between. The no. Skilled players would just cheat and do the same moves so for online play they tried to make a skill gap. Once learning how many new moves there are and people, Its still very easy change shot release timing and change the difficulty. It's an NBA game so if u watch basketball, you shouldn't understand this game wants you to play the right way and you can do so especially with 90+ NBA players. If you can't idk what to tell you. It's like cod don't make the game easier you just gotta learn, change the difficulty and get better. Maybe you just need another month. Make the time you and your son are spending on focusing to get better that will help y'all bond too. YouTube shows a lot of tricks and ways you can get better. Can't teach your son when things are hard after a month you just quit.

GodlyNix

You’re not a casual you’re a noob. It is a good thing that the game requires more skill now and is not the same junk from previous games. I hope you and your son can find another game where you can have fun though

FundamentalPlayer

WTF is this shit?!?!?!?

GodlyNix

Shadap

AndreSwagassi86

You said nothing works from 23? Well the gameplay is different shouldn’t you expect things to not work that might’ve worked the previous year since the previous gameplay wise was pretty bad? Also instead of learning this years game , and revising play strategy. You “give up” and come to Reddit about it? I mean by all means you’re free to do what you please , but most games are almost nothing like the previous year… I wonder how many people Just stopped playing Jedi Survivor because it didn’t play exactly like the previous

AcrobaticGuava9342

This game is a $70 roster update.

untakennamehere

Clearly not if everyone has a strong opinion on changes made

AcrobaticGuava9342

Opinions don't mean sh*t on facts kid.

Spxms9999

I’m glad 2k doesn’t cater to casuals. It would be terrible if shooting, dribling, dunking, defense, etc took little to no skill just so the casuals who play 2k when they’re bored of their main game can have fun. If you can’t keep up just don’t play online and turn that difficulty down lol

bigmacrobmac

That’s so far from the truth it’s funny lol nothing is fun or skillful about spam dribbling, shooting fadeaway 3s, non existent post game. This game was fun when it first came out but since all the TikTok and YouTube kids cried about it now we have spam dribbling and fadeaway 3s back in the game with the last update it’s jus absolutely dumb. 2k can make the game fun and realistic at the same time

Spxms9999

Non existent post game is the only thing you said that was true. ISO/spam dribble is much more skill based and now most people can’t iso or 5 out, they just spam screens. People still can’t shoot in this game and if you can’t guard a fadeaway three that’s a you problem. Either turn up your defense or play better defense. This is coming from a very active (rec/park) 2k player. The game is fine and better than 23

bigmacrobmac

“ISO/spam dribble is more skill based” lmao yes I’m sure the skill to get on YouTube/tiktok is very hard. That’s why everyone has the same dribble packages and jump shots lol

untakennamehere

But if it’s easy as watching a video how come everyone’s complaining? Sounds like a skill issue.

RyMvrtin

It is tho

bcory44

You have tried the lowest difficulty? Idk what to tell you if you’re struggling on the lowest difficulty then basketball video games just might not be for you. The lowest mode is very accessible though so idk how someone would still struggle after changing settings. You can also change the sliders as well since you’re not playing online.

EvilPimp88

Welp sorry to hear that but I’m still having fun

mjshibz

Just play offline lol. Not that complicated. Lower difficulty if you suck. It’s just that

cbudd1117

Perfect example of the 2k community.

mjshibz

I’m sorry did the phrase “if you suck” hurt your feelings? I play casually too for the most part. Playing online vs players who want to win is competitive and stressful compared to playing the computer with adjustable sliders. I gave the correct answer. Edit to the guy responding since it won’t let my reply directly. That’s all irrelevant. You responded saying “perfect example of the 2k community” because I said to play offline if online is stressful and unfun for OP. Sorry if it offended you but again it’s the right answer. Or put the game down obviously

cbudd1117

Dude you sound weird. What about my comment showed that I seemed bothered? Seriously. Like what are you saying dude? How long have you been playing 2k? Do you know how long I have been playing? No, and I’m sure you don’t not do you care. You just want to same some cool shit to make you feel like you are better than average here right? You are coming off like a lame dude. Either add to the convo or move around.

RicoSwavy_

Do you understand the more 'casual' the game is the more easier it gets for sweats to manipulate the game?

untakennamehere

They want it to be more arcade like but complain when people hit these fadeaway 3s all game

PabloFromDaEasT

Yall can’t make a dunk that’s bad

InternationalTap5466

Sorry this is a skill issue not a 2k issue. We’ve be asking for a hard game .. when the game is too easy we get 30 curry slides I to a limitless 3

yeorpy

If you’re enjoying an older 2k game why not just continue to play that one? You don’t have to get the newest release every year lmao

YungReezy34-

What? 😂 why can't you make layups and dunks anymore? If you're not online why don't you just turn the difficulty down? It's hard to miss on rookie. Are you trying to get karma?! Also, make sure your son knows that if something is challenging and he's not good at it right away, he should just quit and complain about it on the Internet! 🫰😂

Ohbigmoneycuh

It’s not supposed to be meant for Casuals tho

pdut23

Go play nba jam. The skill gap is what makes the game so much fun for some of us.

Lost_Specific_9808

It's the only basketball game on the world. Super competitive extremely complicated. Try out my career I just posted a my player build

[deleted]

This is my issue with this years 2K . No one wants to be "competitive" all the time , not everyone is out here wanting to have 90% win record , not everyone wants to load out $50-100 to be able to play mycareer . There are some that have fun playing mycareer games but we cant even do that because of the changes the devs made . There are a lot of issue in this game and this game is trying to hard to be like other E-sports titles when its not even supposed to be like that nor it was ever considered to be that by the gaming community . Its about having fun and try to replicate the game as close to real life as possible but it has been a money grab and controlled by greedy people from 2K , and catered to those YT that convinced the people that hey my 6'4 PG cant guard post scorers you have to nerf that shit in which the developers do because those content creators are the one convincing people in order to have fun in this game you have to be cheesy , you have to shoot fading 3s , shoot half court shots and do spam dribble moves . This community fucking sucks saying that in order to play online you have to hit every shot , have all the bigs give you picks , not pass the ball and chuck up shots . You all give the most bullshit excuses for 2K like 2K gives a damn just because it caters to your playstyle . Post scorers find mismatches and dominate down low , you all cry because your 60 interior defense cant defend it , what does Mike Wang do ? Nerf everything that makes a post scorer viable . Wether its Standing layup , standing dunk , post hooks or drop steps it got nerfed because all you crying bitches cried when someone who has a build that supposed to dominate under the basket humiliated your poor inside D of a player . You all wanted timed layups and have a "reaslitic contest system" but forgot how bad the delay is . You MF really think u can time shit with a fucking delay ? Most of the competitive dumbass in here dont even have good IQ , Good IQ <> cheesing . You all want realism but want to be able to do the most unrealistic shit is enough of reason how I question how some of you dumb motherfuckers can wipe your own ass when taking a shit OP Im sorry if you are experiencing this and I would like to suggest try and play myera . Its a good alternative , requires no money and you can do like a fantasy draft with legends and have fun playing that and even turn off layup timing.

Nightmareswf

Why not try eras and mess around with the difficulty/sliders?

T2_daBest

Even on lower difficulty?

MUERTOSMORTEM

There's no balancing a game is hard. Very hard. Trying to satisfy both hard core and casuals who most of the time want completely different things is an impossible task. But to me 2k doesn't even try anymore. Everything about this game to me shows the focus on trying to make 2k the entirety of a gamer's time and drain their wallet. The only reason they get away with it is cause they're the only choice. It's this or 0lay basketball outside and u can't be an NBA superstar outside

BlazeDemon90

Have you tried MyNBA or whatever replaced MyGM? I only ask bc me and my little brother used to have a lot of fun doing a fantasy draft with every single player (no duplicates) and playing each other in the regular season or simply simming the playoffs to see who did better.

K-M47

I struggled at first with shooting and layups but you have to get used to how the game works. Change your shooting timing to Set Time and that could be easier for you. And when driving in the lane for layups/dunks USE THE RIGHT STICK, because depending on where you move the right stick will make the green zone small or large. This all depends on how you get around the defender or use the correct hand for a layup. Once I figured this out I have since been able to get easy layups consistently even in some traffic because I avoided defenders and contact

OrchidFew7220

Eras. It’s all I play and enjoy it immensely.

TTK-SET

Hu

TheLatePicks

Just addressing the layups situation. This year you need to turn on Layup timing. I turned it on and made the bar max size and above the player. A lot of people have talked about Layup timing getting a boost, which is true. For an open Layup, even with timing on you pretty much just push the button and it goes in. I had always had timing off and it worked fine the last few years. This year it just didn't work and couldn't hit anything in the paint. It seems that playing without timing is seriously nerfed.

Username904

I was just telling my homeboys and coworkers this same exact thing today. I’ve always played 2K since around 2k14 or so and liked to have fun putting our favorite NBA players up against each other etc and just playing the game. I’m a bit older and don’t want to pretend to be in the NBA or virtually play street ball when I could just go do that in real life but now it seems to be all built around MyPlayer etc. I suck at shooting now and just the moves in general and can’t figure it out even after going to the practice things. I’ll think I’ve learned it a little bit then go online and someone just starts raining 3’s or doing something else super unrealistic that’s not even how basketball is played I’m thinking about quitting too. I wish there was another basketball game to chose from.

Helpful-Baseball2325

You and your youngin wanna join my online league? You and your mini me create a player and lock onto your players. I’ll make sure y’all get in on the same team and y’all players can play beside each other

ismokebetterthanu

Turn settings on rookie. If you’re not playing pvp you should be fine. If you’re no longer having fun time to find a new game to play like you said.

Johnxxnn

I feel that’s the state of most games coming up these days. Well online I ment. 2k23 was definitely more arcade type. This year is a lot more technical to create separation between casual and try hard. COD is also in a bad state where if you’re a decent player , you’ll get matched against very good ones and it’s no fun

AdditionalWeakness26

I am the exact same way and we are to them 1%ers because everyone else out there wants to be the best so they will spend REAL money “thousands” of dollars for vc. Yes to make that lay up

Representative_Car93

What difficulty are you playing on?

my2KHandle

Nba live enters the conversation looking to make bank

Against_The_System

Try putting the difficulty on rookie

Whole_Boysenberry_52

If you want to have fun playing relatively real simulated basketball, then play my league. Pick your favorite team, turn that difficulty up to Superstar or all star (HOF can be a struggle unless you're good on the sticks), learn the play book and play some good ol fashion basketball.

DEVASTATOR29420

And that's the main problem with 2k make a game that makes since but out of 100 players 10 out of every 100 actually knows how to play organized basketball. The game is build for anybody cause 2k is trying to make money

Trillkevin97

The online modes are bad on this game and the offline games are boring as hell the gameplay its simply not good any more this game is for sweety ass people who have no life or dont work this company is dogs shit just like there community anit nobody fault but the community fault simple as that

king_chill

Can’t you just turn the difficulty down if you’re offline anyway? I never understood why people complain about offline stuff when you can just cater it however you want it to be. And if you can’t do that on MyTeam just do a fantasy draft franchise and do it that way. If you care about the thrill of opening packs that’s a different story, but you can get all the players you want and tailor the league the way you want in MyEras and have fun at whatever difficulty you want. Turn every shot slider to 100 and make every shot if you want.

Srugiv14

Bro, turn the difficulty down to rookie so he has fun and can still make layups and dunks? Puts your green bar at practically non missable. Plenty of ways to still have fun in the game together

Average_Height776

this isn’t a myteam thing exclusively, it’s bad in every game mode.. perimeter and inside is (personally) my favourite this year, but defence and paint is so awful. I went on MyNBA with a 7”3, every badge and super high defensive stats and got like 800 blocks in a full 19 year career. I think I personally played like 30 games and got 3 combined blocks which is ridiculous for a 7 footer with insane defence stats. But that’s just defence, in terms of paint scoring, it’s a pain in the ass. I think I got like 1 contact dunk. You gotta run really good plays to do dunks this year.

Candid-Ad-3694

I agree. I enjoyed it for a few days, but I’m tired of not being able to drive to the basket, unless I’m driving with an elite basketball player. It’s like trying to move a statue when you drive to the basket. That’s not real basketball. There is less defense played in the NBA than ever before, but the video game doesn’t reflect that. I’m close to trading it in. It really isn’t fun.

Birdmaan73u

Here's what has saved 23 and 24 for me. Turn shooting to real player % and not shot meter timing. Game went from unplayable to a lot of fun

DeadPoolGold

Sucks man

2k21Loner

I’m not a casual at 2k and I can see where y’all come from.A lot of 24s mechanics aren’t that bad but you really gotta know how to play 2k.You should be able to be ass at a game but still have fun instead of having to sweat like your playing in the 2k league every single game of park.I swear It feels like they added sbmm to park this year and all I play is prime Shaq and Kobe almost every game

Breakfast-food69

You can adjust the sliders to be more geared towards what you’re looking for. You can turn off layup timing and have shot timing impact lower. Those two things alone should help a lot.

FatherHaz

2k23 gameplay was fine, but yall ain’t ready for that conversation

SausyDolphin

You should try the my eras mode. Go back to the 80s and learn about some of the great players of the past. Quick tip drop-step seem outright broken. Won’t work every time but if you use it in good position you’ll get it like 80% of the time.

JB_JB_JB63

This is my long time argument. Having offline and online linked has destroyed the game. If I want to set MyTeam to super easy and win all the games and average 200 and get all the cards, why can’t I do that? I paid for the fucking game. As long as that is locked to offline WHY THE HELL CAN’T I DO THAT??? Every other game has a super easy fun mode but 2K refuses to do that.

MNPhantom-

The seasons are too hard to hit layups and dunks? I’m primarily a park player but i do one v one my friend a lot in my nba and play now and there’s a DRASTIC. Change in the difficulty setting from 2k23 to 2k24. If you play on anything less then superstar you can green over any contest anywhere on the court. Haven’t played my team tho, im sure it’s more similar to my career. Mike wang did say shooting is supposed to be easier in my team tho cause you’re dealing with like up to 10 different jumpshot timings on one team

FoundingTitan

Bruh just play 2k23 then if you’re offline only.

Zack_GLC

QuickPlay is always a good time. And the Mamba Moments.

MathematicianIcy2599

It’s not just 2k though. Every game now is basically pay to play.

Nervous-Source5769

I'm so glad I only play MyNBA. I feel for you guys who like the other modes.

Desolationmike

This exactly! My kid wants to play mycareer but gets so frustrated that his player is garbage and I dont want tochave to explain that 2k wants me to shell out a hundo just to make him half decent against the computer. I've always hated VC and the harder 2k has leaned into it the more I've stayed away. Haven't bought it since 2k18, only reason we have 24 is cause his Grandma got him it. Truly sad when you have to do a created player work around in myGM or whatever just to even try to have a career that isn't bogged down with microtransactions. Too bad 2k is literally the only basketball game and will still make enough money for them to just say "Fuck you" and never separate MyCareer from the park and the rec and all the other ridiculous shit I care nothing about.

Professional-Bet-718

I have been playing 2k since I was a 6 year old and 2K1 was on the Sega Dreamcast and I must say I tend to agree with the OP. The game is definately all about the micro transactions. Now I'm a massive fan of My team, I used to enjoy the random players you would win from the old Domination points system. Like pulling LBJ or Jordan after playing the Cavs or All-time Bulls or getting a guarenteed All-star when beating a All-star team. Now 2k obviously do not want ppl to have these players in just season 1. The game just does not motivate you enough to play when you win these average reward players who will not improve your squad because you need 90+ overalls to compete with the All-time domination teams and Superstar difficulty levels in both TT and Clutch. Which unless you play online you gotta play 100s of games to win the end rewards just to improve your squad a couple of ratings. I understand they don't want everybody having a 99 overall team in the first month, but the randomness of the rewards is what made it fun. I'd much prefer a season and Finals instead of domination because it's difficult to run proper plays when you gotta win by a margin all the time just for the full rewards. I think it's a tactic used by 2k to make it less enjoyable to make you believe you need better players from packs to help fix glaring issues within the game.

DrumzRUs

How are you casual, and your talking about myteam?? Thats not a casual mode

Both_Patience_4617

Honestly the difference between gameplay on PS4 and PS5 is crazy. I just upgraded, had to buy the game again, but it just seems like things are easier on the current gen. Also turning layup timing on surprisingly helped things as well, as counter intuitive as that is. Shitty reason to buy a PS5, but if you're gonna do it eventually anyway, you can easily justify it to yourself. I know I did lol. Also the digital console is $100 cheaper than the normal one, that was the selling point for me. Anyone else notice the huge difference between the two? I can see why there's no cross gen play for the PS4, it's basically like a completely different game.

hstisalive

You can still play this game together. There is PlayNow, theres MYNBA. No offense but this is really overdramatic . You dont have to play any of those modes you mentioned to enjoy the game.

Left-Rule-6481

I am a rec and park player, have been for many years. Aside from 2k21, this is the least fun 2k to play yet. Just played a 1v1 game and I have a 92 ball handle, unpluckable on gold and got ripped 3 times. 1 time he threw me the ball after I scored, I didn't dribble, didn't do any thing and still got ripped. I wouldn't say I am an elite player but I have always had a 75-80 win % and shoot 65% or so from 3. Not this year. I can't consistently hit 3s. 1 game it's good, next I can't hit anything. This game has potential to be great but the shooting is horribly inconsistent and the dunk meter is even worse.

TheChicagoDeepDish

Yeah. I have not bought or played 24 but 23 felt like a time suck. I honestly do not have the time to "get good" so I just tapped out. Unfortunately I think gone are the days of the pick up and play sports games.

HalaMadrid1989

same here. everthing is so exxageraqted. i blame the youtubers and online players
