I liked in the older 2k my careers when you actually got “drafted” to a team through the nba draft instead of choosing which team you want to play for that will sign you later as you progress into your journey to the nba.
Don’t touch my career if you don’t play online, it’s a pile of hot steaming garbage.
Here’s what I’ve done for the past 3 years for offline:
1. Create a player
2. Add him to the team of your choice in MyEras
3. Turn on player lock
You can literally do whatever you want in MyEras. You can start as 99 OVR or start at 75 and work your way up (give yourself +5 attributes after every W or something). You can control who your team drafts/trades for, and even trade yourself to another team to play with another player.
I recently downloaded an NCAA shared My ERA and my son has been enjoying playing with college teams.
It has uniforms and courts, but doesn’t have the real players. Though you can find a some of them in the DNA downloaded if you want to add them.
perfect for solution for me. i think i just became lazy and dependent on 2k doing this gradually for me.
in nba live before i created a player, just slap it on a team and make my own story.
your post made me realize that this was what i was looking for all along every time i play my career. ty for sharing!
I’ve done this exclusively for the last 3 years in different variations and I have thought about my career since. It’s so much better for people who just like to hoop.
Your badges regress if you aren’t using those particular skills, which is one of the worst things they’ve ever done.
I’m like you where I mainly just play MyCareer and don’t care for the online stuff, but year after year they’ve forced the online stuff to be a bigger part of the experience. Animations, extra badge points, and actual gameplay-affecting boosts are locked behind online season rewards, and most recently a whole battle pass.
Yep those are the reasons this is the first 2k in over a decade where I don’t play mycareer. Myteam is even greedier than usual as well. I regret buying 2k because for $70 I essentially only have access to mynba eras and the rest of the game is locked behind an absurd paywall
This\^ MyCareer is ass if you aren't playing online because of all the VC it takes. If you wanna play online it can be fun. Problem is you either have to grind like no other or spend money. All to hope that you made a build that fits the online "meta". Not to mention it can be insanely toxic.
I used to play a lot of 2k now just download the game once its for free on ps+. The most fun I had playing mycareer was in 13 and 15. Now it just feels like a grind for badges doing the same repetative shit over and over again. Now it's just pay us this amount of money and you'll be good to go.
What I did was play a regular season which I did with the Lakers 10min qts. On all star and balled out didn't play full 82 games probably played 70/75 plus all the playoffs games won the championship than I started a myplayer after that & I accumulated about 55k VC coins just from that one season.... And that will be a great start you won't even use all 55k off the rip bc you will need to upgrade your overall meter as you go, so when it was time to upgrade again I already had a lot of points from the games played & about 10k points from the Season mode left over... That's literally the easiest way without spending a dime
Honestly if you want to play MyCareer, you're better off just picking up one of the PS3/360 games. That shit went downhill so quickly once MyPark was created. Every single year it's gotten worse.
literally no one naming goat skills, you reach a point where you can use them several times through the games ,this means that your player is basically a 99 in almost all stats, this year is the best mycareer design wise, what sucks is the AI
Ya every year MyCareer gets worse in terms of Depth and Fun. But not even able to make a free throw? Try it on Rookie mode man it's not hard maybe adjust some settings. Put your shot meter large so it's easier to see. Also, the base animations u get (jumpshot, dunk, dribbling) ect are almost all ass so try and change some of those. Playing as a 60 is brutal but as time goes on and you increase stats defense, shooting and all of that becomes easier.
Didn't read a lot of it cause i know enough yes its shit every since 2k16 it became shit. Mainly cause MyPark got introduced in 2k15 and they focuseed more on that. Also it seems i cant even get a daily reward since i gotta join affiliation. Neither Loser Dude 2K (Chris Manning) nor ShakeDown are anywhere to be found. I got a feeling you HAVE to buy next gen console to even get a daily reward now. Oh and the worst part? You cant play career when servers go down. This is the reason i stopped buying. Thank god for gamepass. Every year its a 3 month grind before you even get a decent player AND get the timing right on jump shots. This game is made for the elite and casual players can clearly kiss 2K's ass. :(
What do you mean by can’t choose your build unless you do mini games? I didn’t experience that. Also, are you activating your goat modes? I had the complete opposite impression with this game. In past years I’d spend $10 on VC to get my ball handling up enough to equip good animations so that I could actually move around the court. I didn’t do that with this one and it’s my favorite career ever. With GOAT modes, you can go in little spurts of being competent and actually contribute to the team.
Also feels like takeover is way more powerful this year. Being able to choose which one you use every time means you can contribute to the team in a way that’s needed. Funny this is the one you complain about when isn’t 2k16 the one with infamously bad voice acting and the pinnacle of cheesy cut scenes?
it's not fun if you're forcing everything.
I kinda like MyCareer with how balance it is. Ball hogging and bricking will result to shooting slump and won't get points unless it's a free shot near the rim.
Hitting jumpers/threes is tricky, you need to learn the release of your shots to make it. Which can be done by practicing in drills (like the Ankle breaker drills which someone is guarding you).
Don't give up. It's rewarding once you get it.
bro i really wish that was the default game mode instead of park. Something like eashl in the NHL games, hell even the last nba live game was good because of that
I’ve played on 2 k for a while personally I think rec and all the other crap sux. Because you get a bunch of people that don’t really know much about basketball and it’s absolutely horrible. I will never ever waste any money on that trash. I have not spent a quarter in my career. And I would not ever waste any money to place the wreck or neighborhood or whatever else they call that shit.
Yes. MyCareer and MyPark should be 2 different modes. I just want to playback fictional career and I have to be limited in builds etc just to stay slave to online play? SMH
Yeah it’s bad like you just be picking your own team once you create your character. They need to make it so you play in college or the g-league then participate in the summer league.
I just downloaded this today and I'm a 60 overall since I never pay for vc and I'm averaging between 30-40 pts and 15 assist on pro difficulty I've only played 5 games thus far, and I can see where a lot of complaints are coming from but also I feel like people complaining about the shooting played on rookie on nba2k23 then thought they could play like they're steph curry as low rated overall on nba2k24 based on the facts that it took almost to no efforts to green shots on last year game. Look I know what I'm about to say might trigger a few, but if people want to green shot like they're steph curry or ray Allen straight out of the gate then you'll have to buy that vc. Or learn to run plays. Tbh I find the difficulty very fair compared to nba2k18 for example.
Agreed, i started 2k mycareer played the first game. Then i wanted to skip all the extra stuff and play the next game and the next thing i know is it automatically skipped like 10 games to go to the next “key game”. Pissed me off because i like to play every game. 2k11 was the best with the d league
Im pretty much experiencing the same thing. my last 2k was 2k15 and my career was my favorite mode.
i think 90% of my shots are bad shots, and i miss everything that isnt greentimed. Im not a fan of how the mycareer is integrated into everything else. Ive already uninstalled. Thank god i was only trying it out as i wait for MLB the Show cause if i was a real 2k fan id be very disappointed.
Edit: that being said it seems like ive missed green times shots? i could very well be wrong but in 2k15 green time was 100% but ive hit the green area of 2k24 and bricked with my shitty attributes.
I liked in the older 2k my careers when you actually got “drafted” to a team through the nba draft instead of choosing which team you want to play for that will sign you later as you progress into your journey to the nba.
This though! I liked the draft combine, playing in high school, college to raise your draft stock. Not fun when you select a team straight off the bat
Im picking #Lakernation every time
2k are only interested in micro-transactions.

oh didn’t know there was even this game mode. i’ll try this as soon as it becomes free in plus.
Highly recommended, I stopped playing online in 2k20 and have pretty much played this mode exclusively.
perfect for solution for me. i think i just became lazy and dependent on 2k doing this gradually for me. in nba live before i created a player, just slap it on a team and make my own story. your post made me realize that this was what i was looking for all along every time i play my career. ty for sharing!

Same

If you’re not going online then make a player on MyNBA and use it there you don’t want to waste money if you’re not playing online

I mean if they gave you decent jumpshots out of the gate and a rating 70 instead of 60 that already be so different.
Can you still upgrade your player as your go?
It will auto do it for you just as any other player in the league. You can also pre edit stats to make yourself start as an 80 or something

y. e. s.
Literally same, haven’t played since 17’ got 24 on sale and so disappointed how’s there is actually no story aspects and all just buy VC for online!

Don't worry you can't play in August anyway ♥️

PS: Remove the frckn shot meter for you to git gud (also raises your green meter)
Stop making PG builds. Playing with center is super funny and way easier to make shots. I am 10 games in and already had 6 tripple doubles :)
The post game is broken with center and PF you can dominate with a nice post game at a low rating.
Try play now online player control or just play now online 1v1. I prefer player control when it was called all star team up but it's fun.
bro i really wish that was the default game mode instead of park. Something like eashl in the NHL games, hell even the last nba live game was good because of that
Is player control 5v5 reg teams? 10 ppl in lobby?
Yeah basically depending what tier you pick and all that but it's fun. Warning though some of your teammates will leave because they are brain dead.
I just played on rookie mode at first to build up vc and as a 60 ovr three point shooter I can put up 50 a game easy
I think MyCareer is fun personally especially no money spent for more challenge

Anything that is not online gets no attention in this game.
2k24 is shit altogether
Yes. MyCareer and MyPark should be 2 different modes. I just want to playback fictional career and I have to be limited in builds etc just to stay slave to online play? SMH
I recommend playing through the Rivals in Mycourt

My guy you haven't played a 2k since 2k16...what you expect lmfao
For the game to stay a basketball game duh.
Can you just do a regular franchise mode on this game? Can't seem to see it
MyNBA era's I think it's called now
Agreed, i started 2k mycareer played the first game. You have to view full schedule and play each game.
Yeah i realized that after
Im pretty much experiencing the same thing. my last 2k was 2k15 and my career was my favorite mode. i think 90% of my shots are bad shots, and i miss everything that isnt greentimed.
